Getting rid of comics

I have determined that this year, I really need to sit down and make an effort to clear out my backlog of comics. I've been getting somewhere between two and five or six titles since, well, the mid-late 90's since I got into X-Men, and I'm running out of space. Moreover, I have come to the realisation that I've not really re-read many of them - especially the more recent ones - so they really are just taking up space. Heck, I only re-read my Gen 1 Transformers comics again the other year after a decade or more (no way I'm getting rid of those though!)

So I intend to have a rationalise and go back through my stacks, and take out anything that I'm pretty sure I won't read again. A few stories I will likely keep. (For example Anything With Jubilee In It automatically is getting kept - as is the Power Pack and [character] series...) But I can probably get shot the bits of Gen 13 and probably the entire run of Tomb Raider, as well as large chunks of the numerous X-titles I've got.

I don't want to just chuck them out, though, since I think that's a bit wasteful.

My initial plan is to pass them along to my sister to flog on ebay and split the profits (because she sells a few odds on ebay and I can't be arsed to do it myself). The question is how exactly to go about that - i.e. what sort of bundles I should set them up in (as neither of us has the time an effort to do it issue by issue). I'm not really that bothered about making any pennies off it, really - more interested in getting them off to a good home.

Need a better idea of inventory we are working with. That said, I recommend bundles of 5 . Scan covers or photograph if possible, and just go in numerical sequence. If it is easy to locate a specific issue within your collection, they'll go for it.

Since it's eBay, heed the advice of your sister of me on this one, but I would start the bidding at double the total of the cover prices. So 4.99 per cover times 5 times 2, no reserve price. This works out to 50 per 5, which isn't terrible.

Might prove to be a useful tool for any issues you feel are in some way special. IE-My Thunderbolts #1 (from about the era you mentioned) is probably worth 20 bucks now.

Well, you could always have a very specialist stall at a boot sale, I suppose.

Advertising in Exchange and Mart or the local paper may also be helpful - that's more for selling the entire lot in one go.

I've spent a few hours sorting it out and working through...

A partial list so far follows (I figured I might as well write one up, as one of the other options I'm looking at is one of these places that says they'll buy whole collections); but on top of that I've got about 150 issues of Uncanny X-Men and about the same of X-Men/X-Men Legacy to work through and select anything (if anything) I want.

Rather a lot to be selling off in groups of five, especially since the cost in time is going to be very high, and I don't think I've got much that's worth all that much.

Go to ebay, and see what kinds of bundles are selling best, and at what price. The best way to see what your customers want to buy is to see what your customers are buying.

First off, you probably going to have to take a hit in the pocket book on this. But it doesn’t look like you’re trying to turn a profit as much as get rid of unwanted comics.

I think you should totally get a price guide and look up each one (a spreadsheet is good for this) you want to sell.
From there you’ll know how much your comics are worth and can price accordingly.
You basically have two options for selling sell them:
As a bulk lot (probably at a loss)
Or sell them individually.

I would honestly sell the the Gen 13 stuff as one lot, the Tomb Raider stuff as another lot. From there, selling the Xmen stuff in batches of 5 or 10 seems like it will not get you the best return overall, but it should average out if you net double the cover price on each book. Maybe start the bidding at 1.5x cover price, that isn't a terrible markup. At 150 books, cover price x1.5 = 1125, minus shipping costs.

Without a more complete list I can't really suggest much more.
