*shrug* Might be the case, yeah. Aaaannnyway. I'm now free of Virtue's Last Reward, and free to move on with my life...At least until the new Harvest Moon gets here. (My opinion of the game: Neat, but I found it less emotionally-gripping and therefore less satisfying than 999. Tenmyouji really helped out there, but that doesn't surprise me...)

Which means I can get back to doing this!
Chapter 40, Week 32, Mood: Angry
    or
    Elodie for Queen 2012!

    Spoiler
    Show

    Well, let us offer them...

Jobs! Elodie will create many new jobs this year!
    "It's a recruitment drive!"

You leave him to his work.

While he works, we're going to enjoy some tennis! That's fair, right?

    Getting ready for war!

You know...None of these things explain why getting to 25 in any of these helps us with the others.

    Yaaaay! Tournament!
"The people will be pleased if you participate in the games. However, it would expose you to danger."

What event do you wish to participate in?

The only event we could do well in is the parade, but none is also an option.

Oh, while I'm at it...We're basically approaching the end-game at a rapid pace. Anyone who knows what's coming is welcome to try and push the vote towards the ending they like best, as long as you keep it spoiler-free.

Really? I mean we did train with Falcons for a bit. That seems decidedly non-lethal as well. So let's compete in Falcontry!

It isn't. Our horse skill is well above 50 (the line for basic competence)...But Falconry's the lowest of our animal-handling skills.

Actually I think we should choose the skill we are worst at so everyone realizes that they have a lot of work to do

    So let's sing!

More seriously for some reason I thought Mounted Parade would require presence or one of the other royalty skills.

    Chapter 40, Part 2
    or
Wow, that's a lot of Death...

    Spoiler

Even if we never see the horse again, we should name it.

Yeah, it's the easy option. If we didn't have the horses skill up, it'd also let us catch ourselves with an Elegance check.
I'm pretty sure it boosts our popularity, which we've yet to boost, so happy.

    And that's the tourney!
Wait, were you expecting something else? Maybe something like...

Well, like I was saying... Kevan takes vengence on us if we get Arisse or Briony killed, which probably happens more often than not. However...
We didn't. We prevented Briony from getting herself killed, and didn't cause a civil war.

But this is a short update, so let me use some codes and some old saves to show you what happens when this happens.
He challenges Elodie to a duel. You can try and kill him with magic, or run away, but if you don't have the skills (wield magic or running+reflexes/Falconry, respectively)...

    This happens.

If you accept, you can choose weapons, either swords or staves. We've seen what happens if you fail swords...So let's show what happens if you fail staves.

    Poor Elodie...

Oh, and while I'm looking for Elodie deaths in my old saves, let me show you what happens if you eat the chocolate we didn't get sent...

    That's pretty cute, actually.

Anyway, it's the weekend, because none of that happened!

Here's our mood, what should we do?

The decision as to what conflict we're facing for our end-game is at the end of this next week, though we still have some time to prepare...I'm excited to see what will happen.
When the choice comes, should I elaborate on them so you know "Well, if you choose this, the final major conflict is going to be, in essence, this. But if you choose this, it will be this"?
I do, I should add, have a favorite of the two choices, and have sort of been breaking ties in favor of that favorite for a little bit now.

I think that you should let us stumble blindly onward, as is the intention behind a Let's Play. Let us make the first choice, show us the outcome and let us bask in our glory.

Then, once we've died and laughed about it, we can move on the guided tour of the rest of the choices.

There are way too many branching paths in this game to reasonably show them all within the scope of one LP. I think she's just picking the more interesting alternate realities to fill up the short updates, which doesn't really tell you much.

Right. These are all deaths that never happened...But I think Mobius Twist meant that I shouldn't mention what sort of final confrontation comes out of the next major choice. Not what you need to beat that conflict, but big generalities, like...

Ok, rather than use a hypothetical. Elodie is given the choice to use Brains or Brawn to solve a problem.

Brawn will solve a problem by a big fight scene.
Brain will solve the problem with complex riddles.

That's what I would tell you, leaving out the specific of who we're fighting/what the riddles are, how we're fighting/riddle-solving and what skills we need, and what happens when we win/lose. Just "This if you like big fights, This if you like riddles."

Brains and Elodie in the same sentence ? This I want to see.

I'd reccomend against swords this week, unless you're also training polearms, since you can't get very far with swords until polearms are at 25. Favorite combos for weapon training: Double Polearms this week, Swords next, or Polearms and Swords this week, Polearms and Swords next week.
I will say that this is a final conflict, and if something's going to be useful to surviving it in any of its forms, it's going to have to hit at least the level of "competant," which is at least 50. So focus in a field is your friend if you're hoping it'll be useful.

Also, that sitatuation was completely hypothetical; it doesn't have anything to do with real situations, since it involves brains.

This. Stupid character limit. Why should I have to pad a statement when I'm going for pithy? It totally messes up how I prefer to do things. Now I have to add more text, and I'll be damned if I will just leave it at the minimum. I refuse. I decline to acquiesce to the demands! NEVER! And I suppose now I've gone far past that, but I've built up a head of steam and a train of thought. There's no stopping me now! On the plus side, there's a chance that no one will notice this text at all and that this is just for my own amusement. I think I'm fine with that. Okay, now I'm finished.

Yup, those are all sticks, sometimes with stuff at the end. Good girl, Elodie!

    Woot! We're actually swordfighting...A little.

Oh, man. Stuff just got real.

    "Fine, I'm coming."

You find your father standing over a map of the coastline, his face grave.

Are you guys ready for some endgame conflict? No? It's ready for you.

"Within a week they will be in Novan waters. Within two weeks they could reach the capital."
In other words, depending on how we handle this, we'll either have one or two weeks left to prepare.

ooh, Elodie! Getting your queen face on!
