IC II Toes In The Water

[Zman]

Miriam, enraged by the sight in front of her wastes no time and summons the most powerful magics left to her, "HOLD!" Miriam commands as she holds up her hand.

As she does the Orc that just ended Henry simply freezes, trapped in his own unmoving tomb of a body.

The shortsword misses, but Natalia rams Alabaster's black dagger into the orc's back. It nicks the edge of a rib but this does nothing to slow or chip the finely-crafted adamantine as it rips through the orc's lung. The escaping air makes a horrible half-whistling half-bubbling sound as the orc falls over.

Natalia steps forward and manages to fell the Orc... plunger her dagger deep into its back.

As Kurt's roar and Shinys threat managed to turn many of the Orcs, a handful still had the nerve to charge... Charging the massive Dwarf... Kurt manages to twist his body bringing his Greataxe through the first Orc, nearly cutting him in two, but Kurt's mighty swing leaves him open for the two others, whose swings hit home wounded the already roughened Dwarf...

Still quaking with rage, Natalia screams, "Took head of your eye too! So...Come and get it!"

Minor injuries suddenly seem less important, so does fighting in her fluid yet cautious style. Is that what Valen and Kurt feel like all the time?

Henry's Executioners

The remaining Orcs shake the stunning power of Miriam's magics, picking up their weapons and grouping themselves defensively... their fourth is held in place by the furious Cleric.

Shiny winds up and tosses a ball of arcane energy straight through the giant dwarf's legs, bursting behind the combatants.

Kurt sees the enemies fall to Shiny's magic, then takes a small step back, forcing the Gnome to move as well. This gives him enough room to take a calculated and vicious swing at the collapsed veteran.

With an earth shaking roar, Kurt cleaves the orc's body in two on the ground, the huge axe driving the sides apart.

Natalia hears Kurt's roar and the sound of his axe slashing through flesh and bone before hitting earth all the way in the chamber. She leans forward and grins at the remaining orcs, though there's no happiness or joy behind it at all.

The small gnome emspells the three fighting Orcs and Kurt follows the adult down to the ground with his axe, removing his head....it just rolls a few feet away...

With all the orcs around them asleep or dead Mithril tore down the corridor to check on Natalia. Reaching the scene she saw the remains of Henry lying bloody on the floor. The eyes seemed to stare at her accusing her of his murder. Maybe if I had insisted on his heading back to Linwood... he always listened to me

The moment Shiny sees his spell drop the three orc combatants, he turns and starts running down the tunnel, curious about the screams he heard from the others.

Hearing Mithril tear down the corridor, Natalia breaks her gaze to whip her head around and shout, "Mithril, don't--!"

But it was too late. The empty shock in her eyes makes Natalia even angrier, and even more desirous to make the one who did all this pay.

Though one would expect such an action from Valen or Kurt instead, Natalia takes her dagger and charges at the orc closes to the frozen one, hoping to impale him on her blade, knowing she won't kill him but not really caring.

As Natalia charges in the Orcs are ready for her, both take swings at her as she approaches trying to cut the young human down before she can bring her wicked weapons to bare... both attacks narrowly missing the careless human... but the two attacks were enough to slow the Rogue's attack down, limiting her impact...

Valen follows suit and charge the third Orc after Natalia... and trades blows with the Orc, plunging his blade Deep, to the hilt, through the Orc's chest... Killing the Orc instantly.

Midway through his jog down the tunnel, Shiny stops and casts a spell, whose motions involve kicking his knees up to his hands in quick succession. Then he starts running again, but this time faster than any normal gnome, or even human, could run, his legs a fiendish blur. He arrives at the room next to Mithril, and his eyes widen as he surveys the scene.

Coldly Mithril walked forward, raising her hand and casting a light into the middle of the fighting orcs and humans. The light expanded hitting everyone and making them glow with a soft light. "Let the truth shine."

The Orcs Barely able to remain fighting attempt one last ditch attack... One manages to deal a vicious wound to the young human, the other misses and collapses from his wounds.

Natalia hears Mithril's footsteps, followed by her too-cold voice. The warm glow that follows is pleasant to her, but anathema to the orcs. Henry's blood, more of it than she could have thought, is pooling by her feet and seeping into her boots and inhaled with every one of her breaths. She and Miriam had shouted for him and he'd looked at them and his terror started to be replaced with hope before that orc fixed both expressions on his severed head, ghastly pale and too still by her feet. She should have been more forceful in telling him to go with them, she should have persuaded him to not draw off their attention, she promised...

With a wordless howl, Natalia leaps onto the frozen orc, Henry's murderer, her coattails streaming behind her, a raptor diving in for the kill...

Her blades cut in deep; her dagger rips the orc's throat open while the other slices deep into his stomach and spills his intestines out onto the ground. As the red rage fades from her mind, Natalia finds her front splattered with blood, and even more of the stink hangs in the air. The sound of the orc's last breath escaping through his shredded trachea lodges into Natalia's mind. She's never going to make this battle leave.

Shiny's eyes widen even further as Valen and Miriam fell the remaining orcs, and then the rogue slice another one apart in a raging fury. He opens his mouth to speak, pauses a fraction of a second, and then closes it and spins on his heels, disappearing back down the tunnel like a bolt of lightning.

Shiny does a double move back to Kurt so that he can start healing him with the wand, while the others are back in the room. He would be uncomfortable dealing with Henry's murder.

As the last Orc falls, Miriam, Mithril, Natalia, and Valen stand over the lifeless body of Henry, the young man they few a few short weeks ago that felt like a lifetime. The ground is covered in blood, their resources expended, and their friend dead.

Shiny makes his way back to the Giant dwarf as his massive axe takes the head from the final sleeping Orc. As the Gnome approaches, Kurt begins shrinking back to his normal surly size.

And now the uncanny adventures have to continue on as they prepare to leave the Orc caves....
