Thanks for the latest update. Rich I hope you get well soon, but take all the time that you need.

Re: Get well Rich!
Sheesh. That looks like a rather nasty cut. I have to admit that I'm kinda curious about the events that caused the accident.
Naturally, it goes without saying that I'm on the "Get well soon" camp and that I hope for a speedy and complete recovery. I'd hate to see you go the way of Don Rosa.

Re: Get well Rich!
My thoughts and prayers are with both you and your wife. I know from personal experience how trying a serious injury can be for all members of a household.
I'm sure you'll be back in time, and I'm happy to wait until then.

Ack, that picture! Take all the time you need and more!
I feel like I've posted a get well message at some point before, but even if I have, it bears repeating. The GITP forum community - even the most ridiculous and demanding of us - are 100% with you, and wish for a speedy recovery! Elan better not be the only one getting his good ending.!

Re: Get well Rich!
I am certain that we can wait for your return. Tricky in healing the thumb is that you can only keep it immobile for so long. Left too long and you lose the ability to use it. Take them up on any and ALL therapy you can get. Yes its annoying and can become expensive but this is not something you want to play about with.
In the meantime we will keep ourselves busy.
Thank you Mrs Giant for keeping him on the best healing path and not letting him get carried away. Just remember Pain is a very bad indication that something is wrong. Its the last to arrive and the first to go away.
You just get better we will still be here when you get back. lol Checking for a new comic is a daily thing for me. Even while I know you are not putting anything up I still check. My deaf Dog is Smarter than your Honor Student.

Re: Get well Rich!
Best of luck Rich, that looks kindof annoying (painful, debilitating etc), take all the time you need/want or perhaps all the time your wife and doctor feel you need/want (which ever is longer between the six variables I would advise).
Been a while since I used HTML so hoping this works.
Edit: Tried a HTML table but it seems I am grossly out of practice.Last edited by dancrilis; 2012-10-07 at 06:11 PM.

Re: Get well Rich!
I don't recall anything in the source books about temporarily disabling your primary hand in the process of getting a two weapon fighting feat. I can see how only using your off hand might speed things up and being a dual wielding cartoonist certainly sounds cool, but it seems like there are less painful methods.
In all seriousness though; wishing you a rapid and complete recovery.

Re: Get well Rich!
I think rich could apply to be honorary member of the platelet high school band.
But ssince he will eventually regain partial motor control of his hand, it's a happy ending!
At worst, he could always teach his wife to draw in his place.
More seriously, let that "eventually" be "soon enough" and that "partial motor control" be "practically like before"In memory of Evisceratus: he dreamed of a better world, but he lacked the class levels to make the dream come true.

Re: Get well Rich!
listen to your body, tell your doctor what it says.
when it is time to return to the stick your wife will tell you, so forget all about it while you deal with the issue at hand.
when cutting your hand on glass, remember, the skin is the toughest part of your flesh, and most of your nerve endings are in the skin, so next time you want to slice your hand open for fun, remember slicing more than your skin is pointless, it also increases the risk of permanent damage and takes longer to heal.
so:
- heal
- forget about comic
- be smarter about slicing open hands.
in that priority too.Last edited by jamoecw; 2012-10-16 at 01:35 PM.

Re: Get well Rich!
Okay, it's been a month since you've hurt yourself and hopefully you've seen a lot of improvement. More than likely you're also bored, restless, and eager to return to the craft at which you excel as soon as possible.
Be very careful at this point not to rush things. There's a great temptation, when you've been hurt and are STARTING to feel better, to jump back into activity.
Don't do it. Take your time, do your therapy, behave yourself, and heal properly. We'll wait for you.
Thanks, Rich. We appreciate you.

Re: Get well Rich!
Rich,
Hope the recovery is proceeding apace! I know how frustrating and scary it can be to damage one's working hands. My wife is a dental hygienst, and she also sews a great deal. One day a year or so past, I was sitting in my office when the friend with whom she was quilting called out to me and said "can you come in here a moment?" I told her I'd be there as soon as I finished the page I was on, and she said "you should probably come now." I walked in to see about a quarter of my wife's left index finger laterally sliced off (in other words, no bone involved, just an awful lot of flesh) and lying by her rotary cutter. Never a scream or cry from either of them; I suppose childbirth toughens 'em up.
Recovery took quite a while, but it was complete, and I hope the latter is true of you as well.

Re: Get well Rich!
I was terribly sorry to hear of your injury - that looks painful! I hope you'll get well soon.
What caught my eye (besides that awful image - ouch!) was your frustration over "one-finger hunt-and-peck typing". Have you tried using an intelligent keyboard app such as Swiftkey?
It's specifically designed for one-finger typing and it allows you to reach an impressive speed with relative ease, and a low rate of corrections.
Hope this helps out, but the bottom line is - take your time, we'll be here whenever you'll be back!

Re: Get well Rich!
I think the typing problem is not related to smartphones, but to normal keyboards [besides that, I think using the wrong hand would be slow enough even with Swiftkey/Swipe/etc...]
@Rich: hope your recovery is doing good! (And be sure to give yourself/your Hand enough rest)Last edited by ChristianSt; 2013-05-17 at 08:18 AM. Reason: Edited to add singature

Re: Get well Rich!
Newest update is up. Looks like it's gonna be a slow recovery. Don't worry, the fans will wait.
Rules that supersede Rule 0:
Rule -1: You're all there to have fun. The GM and the players should never do anything that would limit people's fun, for any in-game or real-life reason.
Rule -0.5 (corollary): That means that if someone's fun is getting in the way of other people's fun, that person needs to change how they're playing.
