Agreed. The arrival of gods and other more destructive beings has rapidly escalated the situation beyond our control. That guy with the ugly mug is Discord, spirit of chaos and disharmony. Though, with the world in this condition, he could probably only make it better.

Well, let's tally up what we have, in order of danger: We have the god of chaos on the loose, we have the madman and his even madder companion, and we have the undead who can't be killed. (Or who can be, but not without excessive force.) Then we have my daughter running around who knows where.

Re: [PitP] Ponythread: The Roleplaying
Okay, Blunt, clear the workshop. We have a new project; bombs are out, fusion's in.
But we mastered cold fusion years ago, DB.
I didn't say, cold, now did I?
Fire, that's what we need!
You've lost me.
*svash*
Nightcore has demonstrated twice today that fire, heat, blazes, they hurt him! Oh, brilliant!
So, fusion? I thought you didn't want want bombs?
Oh, we're more than that.
We're making a fusion cannon. Or, Fusion minigun, depending on how you look at it.
See, if you can accelerate an object close to c, it will hit the air in the way so hard that the molecules will fuse, generating an incredibly intense amount of heat.
So, if we can generate a sustained stream of objects traveling at near c, then we can get a sustained beam of fusion reactions! Brilliant!
Yay for technobabble. Are you done yet?
You're still grounded, Athena, but you can help. Let's get to work!

Re: [PitP] Ponythread: The Roleplaying
As much as I savor any prospect for inflicting harm upon Silent Night, I feel I should let you know that fire-based weaponry is even less reliable against him than my OFCs are. I mean really, I'm married to a fire elemental princess for pony's sake, do you honestly believe that if fire was consistantly effective I wouldn't employ it regularly myself?
There's also the issue that your fusion cannon would be even less precise than my OFC array, what with convection and all. I wouldn't consider a major problem myself, but you seem to have a lower tolerance for that sort of thing.
...
Also, in the interest of extending the olive branch, so to speak, I've taken the liberty of disposing of your explosive stockpile for you. No thanks are needed.

Re: [PitP] Ponythread: The Roleplaying
All accounted for, Boffie! All you need to do is use the corect technology matrices to refine the width of the beam! You can have a wide, relatively low-power beam that will merely melt anything it hits within half a mile, or you can refine that beam to an inch wide and start cutting off slices of planets!
I mean, if you were wantonly reckless. Which I'm not.
I think I'm having a sciencegasm; I'm having to invent new metals just to contain the force of the projectiles.
Wait, what did you say about the bombs? I'm kind of curious about how you're going to dispose of four million...

Interesting place you've got here, I must say. Is that a pony skull in the wall? Fascinating how the place moves about like that.
By the way, you really may want to fix that anti-teleport spell; it's got a rather glaring blind-spot to technological teleportation. Typical spellcasting; forgets about science.

Re: [PitP] Ponythread: The Roleplaying
....
What was that about?
Bah, probably one of Boffensparks lackys.
He has lackys?
I dont think so, but that's the only way I could explain the stupid that just came from his mouth.
Why?
The Return To Sender System is multi-layered, in that anything coming at us in the general area at stupidly high speeds is also treated as being "sent".
But did he not say that is was technowhatever in nature?
...Oh my.
Oh, what is it now? Tell me, it's good for us at least.
Those projectiles will continualy move at stupidly high speeds, forever, until the shields go down or whatever sent the objects is distroyed.
So that rumble in the distance-
is the sound of a the world shaking because of the moving objects being moved back and forth at the speed of light.
But, what if there missiles or somesuch? Should they have gone off by now?
They would only go off if they leave whatever protective teliportation "bubble" there in.
.....Oh shoot.
Yeah, good thing this house is mobile.
Huh?
What, do you think I would have enchanted our new hide-away to not be Boffenproof? With a single flick of a horn,
"flash of light"
the house can switch spots with a exact replica in some minor backwater near Canterlot.
...Nice. So, are we safe?
Pretty much, those projectiles should hit the other house right about now. It's been tested to fool most targeting systems, and the emergancy anti-scrying measures have been activated. I probably could not find this place if I had to find it.
But how will a bunch of ponies react to small meat-covered house?
Ehh, this town is known for weird crap. It's near the Everfree, you know,
"Meanwhile"
What in tarnation?
Oh, Applejack, it's probably one of Twilights experiments!
"back to the basement"
so we should be fine.
Huh, great.

So, about that improvised "water"bed.....

Re: [PitP] Ponythread: The Roleplaying
That's very nice and all, but even if you compress the thermal energy of the beam itself, it's still going to heat up anything it touches, including the air between the cannon and its target, at which point convection comes into play once again. Even if you manage to reduce lost heat to 1%, and that's being optimistic, at those temperatures you'll still be igniting anything between you and your target.
And you still have the issue of what happens when Silent Night activates his fire protection spells.
*sigh* Really, you honestly think I hadn't taken all of this into consideration? I'm starting to get the feeling that you ponies think I'm just some sort of explosion happy madstallion.
I wonder how they could have gotten that impression? Idiot.
It certainly is a mystery. In any event, it appears Nightcore has taken the precautions I expected of her.
Did you hear that, you little hussy? I KNEW you'd send those explosions ricocheting through the planet! I WANTED you to send those explosions ricocheting through the planet! My brilliant plan is unstoppable! AHAHAHAHAHAHA-HURK!
*begins telekinetically throttling Boffinspark* YOU MEAN YOU PLANNED ALL OF THIS?!
*gasp* There's a...perfectly...reasonable *gack*...explanation for...
*drops Boffinspark to the ground* Explain. Quickly.
Even as we speak, I have my portal system siphoning off the kinetic, thermal and radiant forces of the explosions while they're trapped in transit. Meanwhile, I've been feeding that energy into my OFC array, which have been set to their lowest instensity, widest dispersal setting. In a few moments, the entire world will be bathed in both short and long-wave friendship radiation. Living creatures won't feel anything but a fairly intense euphoria. Undead, and a certain spirit of chaos, on the other hoof...
*Meanwhile, in Nightcore's castle*
Ladies, did I hear somepony mention a water-what the...? *looks up at the sky*
Spoiler
*considers his impending petrification* Aw crud.
...See, I told you I could re-contain him. Now pay up.
Fair enough. *produces a scroll with the Royal Equestrian Seal and incinerates it*
You see, Dive Bomb, I knew that the only sufficient energy to pull this off would be your explosive stockpile, so I made the prince here a wager; if I could successfully re-contain Discord, he would sign a pardon fully clearing you of any legal culpability for the incident in Canterlot, which you should receive any moment now. Consider it my payment for use of your armaments.Last edited by Alabenson; 2012-09-29 at 10:27 PM.

Re: [PitP] Ponythread: The Roleplaying
I grant that convection may be a bit of a problem, as is the fact that once you shoot one projectile, all the air in the way will be consumed in one glorious fusion reaction. However, if you continue to move the beam, you'll continue to hit fresh molecules to continue the reaction.
Also, let's face the fact that we're fighting Silent Night. He doesn't have the best habit of leaving the people around him alive, now does he? Back in Manehattan, all he had was cultists after everyone else fled or was "converted."
The only problem is that whoever fires the gun is likely to be fried, even if it involves a shield. So, it'll have to be Blunt Trauma; he's indestructible.
An intriguing use of teleporters. And tell me, what will happen when one of the spells wears off? Either you and your base get wiped from existence and Equestria is bathed in heavily irradiated magical materials, or some isolated spot on Equestrian soil becomes the epicenter of a planet-destroying earthquake. You know how supposedly an asteroid collided with Equestria somewhere near Marexico, and it wiped out the humans? This would be worse by about 16 orders of magnitude.
Your thoughtfulness surprises me. I still intend to make things right, though.
I must know: how did you get enough Orbital Bubble cannons back into operation in order to irradiate the planet like that?

So, Boffie, assuming the spell holds up to the stress of innumerable transfers of millions of object, you should be able to keep this up indefinitely. If I didn't already have unlimited, clean energy, I would be slightly impressed.
Here's a thought. I provide you with a couple hundred reactors to help run your OFCs, keep this suppression ray running as long as needed. When those are set up, we reprogram your teleportal thing to send the bombs into deep space. Everyone wins.I run a Let's Play channel! Check it out!

Re: [PitP] Ponythread: The Roleplaying
Unfortunately, the process is far too energy-hungry to maintain for any extended period of time; to put things into perspective, thus far the process has drained the potential energy out of 75% of your explosives stockpile, and most of the remaining energy will be consumed over the next day or two. Once the available energy dip below a certain threshold, the remaining force will be applied to the corrupted OFCs superstructure, destroying them as a result. (Don’t worry about me, I’ll still have my Friendship Cannon Array available in the meantime).
To answer an earlier question of yours, I didn’t repair the…alterations made to the OFCs by Discord, rather, I used this process to work with them. You see, at normal intensities, the OBCs would simple create a bubble of friendship energy that would be harmlessly deflected off of the ionosphere. By setting the OBCs to their lowest possible setting, however, I was able to create a fine “mist” of friendship radiation able to pass into the atmosphere. After that it was merely a matter of finding a way to boost the energy output to a sufficient level that said “mist” would achieve total atmospheric penetration.
By the by, have you started feeling the euphoria yet? I’ve already had to temporarily suspend work up here, as things have become…less than professional.
*points to Igor playing a sitar while a number of ninjas have discarded their catsuits and begun dancing with Pyria*
…
Have you ever thought about the OFCs? Like, really thought about them? They’re like, giant space cannons that shoot love and friendship and rainbows.
If brute force isn't working, that just means you're not using enough of it.

Re: [PitP] Ponythread: The Roleplaying
Just a thought: it would be unwise to destroy the array when you've only just learned how to use them. After all, I can find a way to power at least one for a daily irradiation like this.
Now that you mention it, I have been acting rather more insane than usual. I mean, I'm here on a cordial basis with you!
