Greetings to everyone who said hello to me, who I can't be bothered to quote.

You'll find that's one of my most fun features. Well, that and pedantry.

Welcome! (It's a little late, but I wasn't on)

I have come to the conclusion that I should not be allowed to own hats. My first top hat, I took on a pub crawl and didn't bring it back. My trilby, the signature one that my avatar wears, I lost many months ago, I know not where. And now my pride and joy, my genuine Australian Snowy River Akubra bush hat is missing, and I can't for the life of me remember where I last had it. I expect the only reason I still have my second top hat is because it's been sat on my shelf unworn for ages.



The trilby is replaceable, if I can be bothered. The Snowy River hat I got on the other side of the world, and cost $120 AUD. It is not replaceable, and its loss makes me very sad.

That sucks, man. I don't wear hats (too much hair ), but I know how easy it is to misplace something; I lose stuff all the time (although lately, it's been things that I'm supposed to do that I forget, and not actual objects).

Ahahahahaha...hahaha...haha. Oh yes. You can grow orchids outside there! How fabulous. I was at first imagining a potted heirloom plant on a windowsill, which was rather hibernocentric of me.

I love shade gardens. I transplanted some hostas and bleeding hearts to a shady patch in my garden at the end of September, and I look forward to their beauty in the spring. I also have some foxglove seeds I'm going to plant in another shady area.

Well, that is often the case with orchids in so many lands.
And indeed, even in this climate some orchids would still require special care.

Shady gardens are the best. They always seem to promote cooling breezes. But unfortunately, there's only about three metres of space between the back stairs and the fence line. Though I am jealous of the neighbours' palms, which incidentally provide the aforementioned shade.
As for bleeding heart, I think we have that under the back stairs... My Mum pulled it out because she wanted to get rid of it because it was untidy, and I take cruel satisfaction in knowing that it survived her attempts.

Oh... And I've heard things about foxglove. Do be careful with them.

I love when cats do that. Especially when they roll on their back, inviting a bellyrub, and then once your hand is deep in the fluff they trap it there in a jagged ticklish-painful vice.

So long as you kept your hand still, Mabel would not be discouraged by your laughter. She would preen your eyebrows, and peck your tear ducts, eyelashes, and nose while she was at it. <3 I love when she gets nibbly.

I know that feeling. The funny thing is, cats only roll onto their backs as a sign of submission, or if they're fat because it's comfortable for them.
Unfortunately, only one of our cats is regularly found on her back. The other is not so friendly.

Umm... I'm going to have to say no to Mabel going any closer to my eyes than my eye brows. You know, for psychological reasons.

See I thought Fur Elise opened with semiquaver triplets for some reason, and checking the sheet music I'm dead wrong -- so you're not the only one who would make a mistake at first.

I look forward to finishing it. Hopefully Inkscape won't kill my computer in the process of it.

Heard of it, but after picking up it was in Alpha Centauri and roughly earth-sized, finding out it's completely uninhabitable seems kind of a letdown. I'm not sure what's uniquely exciting or informative about it. Just the latest thing in astronomy?

Actually the fact that they found it means it's rather likely that there's others (who might be in the habitable zone) since low-mass planets don't tend to occur isolated, so there's still hope.

I know that. But the presence of a planet of Earth mass so close does make me less optimistic.

Also, that planet is too close to its sun to image properly, but the probable earth-like planets further out could become the first rocky extrasolar planets to be imaged.
