MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
A black-haired mage, dressed in robes of grey, sat in the air above an intricate design of glowing lines, some a bright, clear, white, others a malevolent-seeming purple, with a few of verdant emerald.
For now, he remains silent, simply watching the soon-to-be-battlefield.

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
(Actually, rolls just don't work in the opening post of a thread for some reason. That's caught me up a thousand times.)
A sweeping wave of mist rolls in, far faster than it naturally should. Tiny silhouettes flit through it, almost as if they're using it as a distraction...
Nothing happens yet, though, almost as if it is waiting for the first move.

((I'm assuming that you were first, at least. If not, let me know and I'll fix things.))
(1d53)[31]
The mage grinned, the veins of white light in the pattern beneath him flaring as he tapped into one of his power sources, though save for cutting through a tendril of mist that had strayed into it, there was little effect save that.

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
(Sorry, I made a derp there. I'd meant to say "waiting for the other Planeswalker to make the first move." That's my fault; Just pretend I took the first turn and put down a Sunken Ruins.)
The shifting watery ruins seem to fade entirely as a larger, more complex system builds over it, channeling the mist freely. It almost seems as if the silhouettes are hiding, waiting to attack in force...
(Play Dimir Aqueduct, bouncing Sunken Ruins back to hand. End turn.)

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
((Sounds good. And in that case, for future reference, I take it that the low roll normally goes first?))
(1d52)[34]
The white lines intensified once more, mirroring themselves in the air in front of the grey-robed Planeswalker, before resolving into a portal onto a field of razorgrass, through which stepped an angular golden Myr, gleaming in a sudden ray of sunlight.

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
(I'm used to "High roll chooses turn order", actually, but I suppose we should have worked that out prior to starting. Oh well, live and learn.)
(1d52)[14]
More ruins appear off to one side, but they don't appear to be doing anything. More notable is a large body of flowering plants, seemingly fed by blood from an unseen source...

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
((Ah, I see. I'll bear that in mind in the future, then.))
(1d51)[17]
The golden Myr suddenly blazed with light, rays reaching out from the pattern to meld into its corona as it did, though the light quickly focused into an orb, its surface roiling with strange colors, from which sprang another Myr, this one a dull grey, with prismatic bands shifting over it as it moved, as though there was an oil slick covering it.

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
(1d51)[17]
The field of flowers expands, and a small grunt of pain can be heard from somewhere within the cloud. However, a small, fluttering, vicious-looking Fey Creature erupts from the depths of the field, wielding a blade and looking ready to kill something.

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
((Well, that was an interesting coincidence...
Also, I've got to go now. I'll be back in a couple of hours.))
(1d50)[39]
The prismatic Myr reached out a clawed hand, forefinger extended, and slashed downwards, tearing a rent in the air before it, from which stepped a pale woman with a strange harness on her back, and a cup of blood in one hand, with which she traced a rune onto each of the machines.
As soon as she was done, the golden Myr dashed across the battlefield, swinging a razored arm at the Fey as it went.
Meanwhile, one of the bands of green below the Planeswalker flared to life...
((Play Forest. Tap both Plains and the Alloy Myr to summon Servant of Nefarox. Attack with Gold Myr. Servant of Nefarox has "Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, that creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.", so Gold Myr becomes a 2/2 creature until the end of my turn.))

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
(No attempt to block.)
(1d50)[32]
As the Gold Myr strikes, SOMETHING groans from within the cloud, though nothing is revealed as of yet. The flowers continue to gorge themselves on blood as the Faeries rise in greater numbers, even as the first swarm strikes at the planeswalker himself.
(During upkeep, Bitterblossoms drain 2 life and give 2 tokens. Play Faerie Conclave tapped, and swing with a faerie for 1 damage. End turn.)

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
(No attempt to block.)
(1d49)[21]
The mage grimaces as the blade sinks into him, though the chaotic maelstrom of energy seething beneath him absorbs enough of the force to prevent it from being a lethal blow.
The Alloy Myr reaches out again, opening another rent, through which a man who could be the woman's twin walks, marking each of his fellow combatants, and receiving her mark in turn.
The ceremony done, the woman laughs, and sets down her cup, summoning a pair of translucent blades from the air, and dances nimbly towards the fog bank.
((Tap both Plains and the Alloy Myr to play another Servant of Nefarox. Attack with the Servant of Nefarox already on the field, which is a 5/3 creature because of their special ability and the fact that there are two of them on the field.))

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
(This didn't really belong with my turn, and happens during your upkeep.)
As the planeswalker begins his renewed efforts to destroy the unknown opponent, something strange happened: His mana reserves simply disappeared, along with the faerie that had just struck, as a new champion Faerie took to the field.
(During your upkeep, just after you untap but before you actually can do anything, Flash cast Mistbind Clique, exiling the tapped Faerie Token. Mistbind Clique's effect taps your lands prior to your main phase.
Presumably, this changes some things.)

(Indeed it does. In that case, the Servant of Neferox still attacks, but as a 4/2 creature, and, of course, the other one doesn't get summoned.)

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
(Block with my 2 tokens; All parties die. Presumably you don't have any tricks what with the lack of mana.)
(1d49)[38]
More blood is fed into the continually-expanding field of flowers, and the sounds emanating from the mist are beginning to resemble screams. More faeries rise to replace those who were just lost, but now some chanting seems to create an even greater field of blood-drinking flowers. The Faerie Champion smugly flies over the forces arrayed by the Planeswalker before striking him with a hard blow, attempting to dig more deeply into his life.
(During upkeep, Bitterblossoms trigger again to dump off 2 more faeries and I lose 2 more life. Play Creeping Tar Pit, play Beseech the Queen to call up a third Bitterblossom before playing that. Swing with Mistbind Clique for 4 damage. End turn.)

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
((That would be correct. In the future, perhaps I should reread the rules more closely before trying to pick things back up after two years...
That said, those were 1/1 tokens, and it was a 4/2 creature, so shouldn't two damage have gotten through to you, despite the mutual destruction? Or are glass cannons simply more brittle than one might expect?
Oh, yes, and no attempt is made to block.))
(1d48)[15]
The Planeswalker hissed in pain as the Champion's blow struck him, though once it had escaped and he could work without having to ward it off, the white lines flared harshly, once more opening a portal to a field of razorgrass, with a Gold Myr waiting on the other side to step through.
Meanwhile, the Alloy Myr swiftly began to grow, sprouting a barbed tail, thick armor plates, and forming an extra pair of arms from its chest as it did, shortly followed by it chittering sharp commands in some odd language to the others.
((Tap both Plains to play a Gold Myr. Tap the Gold Myr already on the field, the Alloy Myr, and the Forest to cast Alpha Status on the Alloy Myr, which gives it +2/+2 for each creature on the battlefield it shares a type with, making it a 6/6 creature.))

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
(Not unless it has trample. If Servant of Nefarox were a trampler, the mechanics would change a bit and I'd take the 2 damage.)
(1d47)[39]
More blood flows into the floral bouquets of death as a gurgling cry of agony erupts from the mists. They seem to have faded enough where the silhouette near the center, a withered figure, seems to be properly visible.
In any case, more clouds of vicious Faeries than ever are taking to the field, and a leader seems to have emerged to properly organize them. They have become much deadlier for this as well, even as the champion strikes once more flanked by a pair of allies.
(Three Bitterblossoms activate, taking 3 life and giving 3 tokens. Play Secluded Glen tapped. Tap 3 to play another Beseech the Queen, tutoring Scion of Oona. Tap 3 more to play Scion of Oona. Swing with Mistbind Clique and 2 Faerie Tokens for 9 damage. End turn.)

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
(1d47)[26]
One of the purple lines twisted and writhed to life, springing out to meld with the Alloy Myr, even as both Gold Myr began to glow, and emerald light flared into the webwork that was forming high above the field of war.
Through nexus of energy that formed above the planeswalker, which opened on a beautiful, but bleak, hall of jet and howlite, hung with faded tapestries, an angel flew, pointing her blade at the strange structure that had formed from the ruins, and speaking a single word, which seemed to cast a pall over the battleground, shortly followed by a column of divine flame lancing down to destroy it...
((Play Swamp. Tap everything to summon an Angel of Despair, use her ability to destroy the Dimir Aqueduct.))

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
(Ouch, landkilling? Yikes. A bit too late to really help, though.)
(1d45)[41]
The blood pours into the flowers once more, and the faeries show no signs of stopping. A faint whimpering can be heard from the withered figure in the background, followed by whispering to an unseen figure.
~My Queen! I can uphold the bargain in the allotted time! I will not fail you! Please, one last chance!~
With that, the Faeries strike in a last-ditch assault, trying to defeat their opponent and uphold their bargain before their leader is drained completely dry of its vitality.
(Lose 3 life, Bitterblossom spawns 3 more Faeries. Swing with 5 2/2 Faerie Tokens and Mistbound Clique, a 5/5, for 15 damage. That's probably game, but I end my turn if you have a way out of that.)

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
((Well, I had to do something to keep you from being able to get anything else on the field. But yes, for the most part it is probably a touch late. I couldn't get the Black mana together to cast it (or most of the other nice stuff in my hand) until just now, since it all took once more than I had available.
Also, speaking of things in my hand, I made a clerical error a ways back, which resulted in me not realizing I had a Servant of Nefarox available, so that's been added into my hand now.))
(1d46)[1]
The Gold Myr leapt into the fray, sacrificing themselves to wound the fairies, and keep their master safe. Though their Alpha, it seemed, had a more important task; that of stopping the Champion, which it did with alacrity, quickly crippling, though not killing, her and hanging the fae from one of the many barbs adorning it.
The Angel also swooped down to fight, easily lopping the head off of one of the faeries, though the battle delayed her enough that the rest got through unhindered.
((Block two of the Tokens with both Gold Myr, and one with the Angel of Despair. Block the Mistbound Clique with the Alloy Myr, leaving it at 2/1 until my next turn, when it goes back up to 2/2.))

((Ah. I had forgotten exactly what Flying did, yes. In that case, unless something I've just brought in can block, which I believe it can't, since it would already be tapped, that would indeed end the game. And possibly even if it can, since I don't think two points of healing would save me.

((No need to apologize. It was hardly unexpected, after all, considering I'm new to both playing and deckbuilding. I actually did better than I thought I would.
And that sounds quite useful. I'll be sure to look it over.

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
Alright, first thoughts after ten minutes of looking:
You seem to be running Green entirely for Alpha Status! It's not a bad card, but I don't see why you should be jumping into a third color for it alone.
You're running B/W without Vindicate. This should be rectified.
Myr Prototype is... ...horrible. You could run virtually any other Myr and honestly have an improvement. If you just want a beater though, Myr Superion is going to be a vast improvement in the majority of cases.
Servant of Nefarox isn't a bad card, but I'd play Knight of Infamy over it any day.
Hivestone would be a good card in certain Sliver decks. With Alpha Status it might even be halfway relevant. But you certainly don't need to be running four copies in any deck.

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
Mostly because it goes very well indeed with Hivestone, if I can get a fair number of creatures on the field and put them both out. But they're too dependent on each other, and removing it would certainly free up some space that would be nice to have, as well as help me fix my mana issues, depending on what I take to replace the Forests I get rid of (I'm considering Dimir Aqueducts) so I think I'll get rid of them both.
Myr Prototype seemed okay with the Myr Reservoirs to feed them... Until one of those Reservoirs sat in my hand the whole game being useless. If I had other Myr with abilities that could be boosted like that - or something like the Superion - I might keep the latter but as it is those are both definitely out, yes.
Vindicate is definitely going in. That's half the reason I took the Angels of Despair, after all, and it's less than half the cost, as well as easier to get the colored mana for...
Knight of Infamy might end up replacing those, or I might keep the Servants and replace the Myr Prototypes with Knights.
What would you think of adding Alliance of Arms and/or Captain's Call? I'm also thinking about taking Cloudshift, seeing as that would pair fairly well with Angel of Despair, and maybe Bloodline Keeper/Lord of Lineage.

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
Dimir Aqueduct is a good card, but you don't need the Blue mana. In your case, I'm thinking Orzhov Basilica is more useful.
Myr Reservoir is a good card in certain dedicated Myr decks, usually ones that rely on a lot of token generation. Lix had a pretty crazy one that game my Fungus deck a pretty good match, if I recall correctly. In your case, though, I think it's best cut down to one or two copies.
You have 12 mana Myr, which is probably enough to run up to 3 Superion without clogging up your hand except in cases of terrible luck, which happens no matter how you build your deck.
Alliance of Arms is really meant for Multiplayer Decks that like tokens and soldiers. Notice that it gives your opponent just as many tokens, and probably does nothing for you in most cases.
Captain's Call is... ...not the best card. If you want some quick board presence, I'd personally recommend Raise the Alarm or Timely Reinforcements instead.
EDIT: Cloudshift is a really good card in certain decks, but I wouldn't use it when the only thing you really have to pair it with is your huge bomb creature that's not showing up until the late game anyway.
EDIT EDIT: Derp, forgot about Bloodline Keeper. I can tell you from experience that it's very strong, but it really belongs in a dedicated Vampire deck that can really take advantage of that. You can certainly make use of a copy or two, though.
Also, you might consider replaying Alloy Myr with Palladium Myr: It produces more mana, though colorless, at the same cost.Last edited by BladeofObliviom; 2012-11-19 at 03:52 AM.

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
Orzhov Basilica it is, then.
I think I'll cut it down to one and use the slots to get three Superions.
That was something worrying me about that one, yes. I might go with either of the two you recommend, or maybe use those spaces for Kemba's Skyguard.
The difficulty with replacing the Alloy Myr with Palladium Myr is that Alloy Myr was the only thing letting me summon Black creatures most of the game, and could easily end up in the opposite position next time around, though admittedly, the Basilicas will help to some extent.
Child of Night seems like it could be useful for giving me something to heal with early on, especially if I don't take the Skyguards; would the Nighthawks already fill that niche?

Re: MtGitp: C'nor vs. BladeofOblivion
Actually, I can think of a card that solves the lack of flyers problem and the lifegain problem rather neatly, at the same time. Vault Skirge is an unassuming 1/1, but it's a lifelinked flyer that can be a 1-drop if you're willing to pay a bit of life as a cost, or a 2-drop otherwise.
As for your mana problems, have you considered a stronger manabase? http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Ca...verseid=241979 and Godless Shrine come to mind.
