With the Free Kingdom finally united under one banner, they boast the single largest army on the continent. Only the Imperial Legions boast a similiar strength, but spread out as they are, it would be no contest as to who would eventually win.

The Reborn Rhunic Shogunates tremendous industrial base makes them by far the richest faction on the continent.

Deep-trolls have the best equipped and trained researchers in the empire.

Ironically enough, the Deep Trolls--the most secretive and far removed power in the Empire--commands the most respect and loyalty From the general populace.

With the fall of the 1st Legion, the Ghosts are the most mysterious and feared group in the empire. No suprise there; their spies and assassins are everywhere.

With the absorbtion of the Thalitean Cults, the Reborn Rhunic Shogunate posseses the most magical strength on he continent.

    Major NPCs
    Spoiler
    Show
clearly this is not all, just the most importat ones. some of you might be familiar with a couple of these since i of course shamlessly steal factions from others

The Ghosts: the Ghosts are a highly secretive group that served as the emperors intelligence service. having served the empire in many ways raging from spies to assasins for many years, and as such still command a healthy amount of fear and respect from the empires citizens.

The Mercantile's guild: not much to say here really. the Guild is just a wealthy group of traders who used to dominate the imperial trade-routes before all the chaos started. now, they are still very wealthy, maintaining a base in the Lake of Blood region, but are only a fraction of their former selves.

Maester melkar: Maester Melkar is the religious leader of one of the empires dominant religions which holds great sway in the rebelling south. his goals and long term plans are unknown even to his closest advisors and there is no real rhyme or reason to his actions.

Civil-Watch: this group, based in the central regions is comprised of inn-keepers, shopkeepers and former militia members. their goal is only to protect the lives and property of the middle-class peoples, believing they are the very heart of the empire.

Auron:[/b] Auron is a famed foreign swordsman from the unknown northern continent. it is widely believed he is the greatest warrior in the empire and has attracted dozens of warriors all wishing to learn from him. he currently wanders the empire serving as random freelance mercenaries but always seems to return to the Lake of Blood which is where he supposedly lived for many years.

This report, available to all at the Imperial University in Malarae, is a compilation of all current studies regarding the current state and growth of the empire during these troubled times. Guarded and maintained by teams of scholars, the first studies were done at the dawn of the "year of new beginnings" and is to be constantly up to date.

    1st Report
    January
    Year of new beginnings

Imperial observers report that the morale of the empire as a whole is still relatively low. Granted, imperial loyalists have been attempting to step in and destroy anti-imperial factions plus there is now a steady supply of lumber across the empire, but at the same time, the anti-imperialist factions are rising in the west and starvation is not far off...thanks to the disruption of the empires main trade-routes along the Lake of Blood, food and grain shipments are not getting everywhere they need to go in a timely fashion. The fact that it is winter doesnt help matters either.

    2nd Report
    February
    Year of New Beginnings

This month, things are much the same as last. Many thousands are in danger of starving with the legion and the Pegasus Archery Company fighting over the Lake of Blood, disrupting the flow of goods. However, elsewhere in the empire, the economy is drasticly improving thanks to the increased flow of goods coming from the north-western province.

Grim tidings from Nirva Island. Rumours speak of civil-war between High-Admiral and a clone. If this continues, the empire could lose its closest ally.

    FLUFF

    Setting Overview
[spoiler]it all happened in a single week...in a single week the emperor was assasinated by unknown assailants, his daughter and only concievable heir has vanished with several of her fathers top supporters and neighboring free kingdoms, sensing the weakness began to carve out chunks of the border before the legions could respond.

now dozens of factions, previously content under the emperors rule are now seeking to either carve out their own spheres of influence or preserve the traditions of the dying empire...in other words it is a time of great chaos and bloodshed. before the end of this massive power struggle the empire will run red with blood.

    Imperial Provinces
    Spoiler
    Show
similiar to the districts in Broken city, the various imperial provinces are each divided into a specific number of different regions. controlling an entire province grants you a certain amount of influence and other stats based on how important it is to the empire as a whole.

    important Locations/Regions
    Spoiler
    Show
thses locations and regions are considered independent of any specific province and also grant you a bonus as well as influence based on the region. each region also has the potential to grant special "Regional-Traits" dependent upon the location.

The Lake of Blood: this large, centrally located lake is very important to the empire as a whole since many trade-routes pass through this region. hence, the name, this lake, despite being quite important has a particularly vicious reputation as a home of river-trolls, bandits and other beasts that occasionally revolt and cause temporary shortages on goods throughout the empire. with all the chaos, the local legion is trying to keep order but it is fighting a losing battle and trade across the empire is suffering for it.

Malarae: Malarae is the imperial capital which is home to over a million residents with nearly 100,000 more at any given time thanks to soldiers, tourists and traveling merchants. thanks to its massive population as well as being the central hub for the entire empire means it will net a tremendous amount of influence to any who succeeds in controlling it. it is currently being fought over by various gangs, wizards and sell-swords with the legions and Civil-Militia only barely preventing open war in the streets.

Lhusu Mines: the Lhusu mines, located in the northern mountains produce some of the finest ore in the known world which provides the empire with not only superior crafts but also a very lucrative ore trade. the mine is currently held by a horde of monsters out of the mountains.

thhe Great Woods: this massive forest on the empires northwestern border stretches for hundreds of miles and sports trees, old and thick. this massive source of lumber proved to be very lucrative for the empire but recently all attempts to continue chopping down the trees has failed. rmours speak of the brutish furbolgs returning to claim their rightful land.

the Towers: not much is known about these 3 ruined towers other than they used to hold great magical potential. they are ruins after all so they dont grant much influece but who knows what sort of artifacts lay beneath the wreckage.

The Great-Fair: no matter who owns the surrounding lands, this huge tent city attracts thousands of merchants and other businessmen every year which means obviously there is alot of gold and influence to be had if one could hold the fair. all manner of goods, including poisons and slaves, can be bought here and the local authorities have tried to regulate those illicit trades but without much success since they cant push to hard without destroying business.

    The 1st Imperial Legion

    Faction History
    Spoiler
    Show

The 1st legion is the oldest legion in the empire, with its history stretching back to the founding of the empire, and has a history of brutality. Recently they have also become one of the more successful legions in the empire. They were dispatched prior to the emperors death to pacify a rebellious province in the eastern province of the empire. The news of the emperors fall caused the rebellion to gain in strength prior to the legions arrival however. When general Anthony Octavius heard the news he knew that things had just become more complicated, and that the rebellion needed to be put down quickly and permanently.

As such Anthony engaged in a brutal campaign against the rebels, that ended when he forced the rebels into a seige in the city of Antioch. They attempted to sue for terms, but Anthony refused. He knew that if the rebels were allowed to live the province would simply rebel again as soon as his soldiers left. So Anthony waited until the defenders were too starved to fight properly and burned the city to the ground, entirely killing its inhabitants. After this they proceeded to impale the rebels that they captured on sipkes and put them on display in front of the city, before having the heads of the rebel leaders to the notable lords in the area as a warning about failing to contain the rebellion.

With that the province was too fearful of the retaliation of the 1st legion to even think of rebellion. Anthony left administrators in charge of the province and marched his soldiers back to the Imperial city, hoping to ensure that the Empire would not fall to the barbarians, and continue bringing civilization to the world.

    Stats
    Spoiler
    Show

Military: (Extremely high) The first legion is an army. Every member of the legion is a veteren of at least the rebellion, and for the older members several wars.

Espionage: (Low): The legion relies on terror tactics and brutality to deal with its enemies, and does not rely overmuch on spies. Until recently they simply recieved reports along with their orders from their superiors.

Wealth: (Very Low) Although the legion does technically have a lot of gold almost none of this is actually available to do anything with. Paying the salaries of the legion's personnel, and keeping the supplied takes nearly all of the money that the legion possesses.

Technology: (non-existant) As a primarily military organization the legion has almost no researchers in their midst. They relied on the researchers in the imperial city to provide technology to the armies as a whole, and never needed to employ researchers for the legion itself.

morale: (low) Although they have had a recent victory over the rebels the legion has been hard hit by the loss of the emperor. Anthony has however managed to keep morale in check for the moment.

Reputation: (negative reputation: Very high magnitude) The legion has been around since the founding of the empire, so a lot of people know of them. Their very presence has been known to inspire fear in enemies, and their approach has more than once caused enemies to simply surrender rather than risk the wrath of the legion.

magic:(high) Magic has been used to great effect in the legion, both to inspire terror in the enemy as well as to shift the course of battles. The greatly appreciate the value of a well placed spell.

    Terror Tactics

The legion is renowned for its terror tactics and brutality. Through the use of these tactics they can increase their effective military strength by (X%, where x is whatever the DM thinks in balanced) against the defenders and their allies.

These tactic however leave the land devestated. If these tactics are used then the conquored territory becomes less valuable as it is kinda burned to the ground. (conquored ECON or MAG or TECH [or all 3 if I am particularly brutal] is reduced in the territory due to the burning)

    The Deep Trolls
    Spoiler
    Show

The Deep Trolls submited to imperial rule when the arimes came, not due to cowardice, not due to fear, but because the empire was scintificly more advanced then they (Thats a laugh), but because they could see no gain in fighting. In their minds, sooner or later, the empire would fade, and they would be free.

The Deep Trolls have a long history, but do not worship the gods. They acknowlage them, but instead worship Reason and Logic. Before the rise of man, elves, orcs or what have you, the Trolls walked the world. Alongside Elementals and Dragons, they are one of the Elder races.

Dwelling Deep below ground, the Trolls forged many of the wonders of the dawn age with the help of the elementals. Forging the physical shells, the elementals then imbued them with magic. From the Crown of the Inferno, to the Stormlords Winged Plate, the Awe inspiring Sahppire Spear of the Wavequeens, and the mighty Hammer of The Pultionin Depths, they made 'em all.

But, time changes all things. The Elementals left for the outer planes, and the dragons grew distant. The mortal races were born. At times the Deep Trolls taught them, but for the most part they kept to themselves.

But then the first Imperial hero chanced apon them. She was invited in, and offered tea and honey cakes. After listening to her describe her homeland, they opted to join the empire. They gave no reasons, and many suspected that they had no need to join the empire. In fact, they could have held out for a long time. They could have remained indepant for a long time. But then, they would have fallen, and their history would have been lost, their culture obliterated.

For joining the empire of their own violtion, they were aloowed to keep their local legal customs and traddtions. And they have served loyaly. Throught the empires history, they have been neutral. And the cause of their neutrality is the very thing that keeps them loyal to the empire. They serve the throne, not who sits on it. Your average Deep Troll has seen mortal rulers come and go, but the empire will survive. For now.

MIL; Low/Very high. The Deep Trolls have few assets in the manner of attack, they provide those to the legions, but their defences are legendary. With special weapons, well guarded chokepoints and with engineering that had a few thousand year head start on the others, they're a tough nut to crack.

ESP; None. How do you hide a 12 foot troll that has glowing eyes and smells like hot metal?

Wealth; Medium. The Deep Trolls have factories, and churn out some of the best products you can find. However, because they're hiding the full exent of their technological achivements, they cannot use their factories at full capacity.

Technology; Very, Very high. They have had thousands of years to practice their arts, and have racily applied themselves to science. In fact, the bulk of the empires inventions were carefuly leaked from the Deep Troll archives.

Morale; Medium. The eep Trolls are Stotic. Life goes on, just another day. It takes a LOT for something to budge them.

Reputation; Low. Thing is, most people have kinda forgotten the Deep Trolls are there. They send their taxes in, comply with imperial orders, but for the most part? Nobody remebers them execpt for those brief lessons on who is in the empire. Most the average person will even hear about them.

Magic; The Deep Trolls magic is in the negatives. They have LESS then no magic. They examplify the physical part of the world, and so they have no abillity to touch the metaphysical.

Infulence; None. The Deep Trolls do not ateempt to infulence the rest of the empire. They ignore it, it ignores them. They supply it with good war meterials, it crushes those who attack it.

Supply; Almost nobody who is NOT a Deep Troll even knows what/who they are. The emperor and his family knows, and they know their strict impartiality.

Notes: Since its establishment, Factory 01 has provided a large amount of our military equipment. Its proximity to the Lhusu mines has made it well able to arm our armies.

"These notes are publicly available within the empire. They give general locations of two of our facilities and provide just enough information that they would make tempting targets for any that would seek an advantage in the present upheaval.

Being that the neutrality of the Factories is something which is not to be contested, and given that, were the Factories to be left in their current state, someone would inevitably seek to subjugate them, I propose the following motions.

1.) That a central command, designation O5, be formed.
2.) That 05 command be tasked with the following goals:
a.) Defense of all facilities of the Foundation.
b.) Re-acquisition of any facilities which come to be occupied by external forces.
3.) In support of these goals, the Foundation is to take the following actions.
a.) All facilities are to turn their production to the support of the Foundation for duration of the crisis. In particular, O5 command is to be supported.
b.) All local militia units are report to O5 command.
c.) O5 command is to be invested with the power to hire mercenaries and other personnel at its discretion.

    The Celdrine Conspiracy
    Description
    Spoiler
    Show

The mob of the Capital has always been rebellious and prone to demagoguery, especially when there's chaos in the air or the grain shipments have been disrupted. At the same time, the City is full of powerful magnates and politicians always eager to gain advantage or harm their rivals. Combined, these make the capital a very dangerous place to be when things start to go wrong, and full of plots and conspiracies at the best of times.

Antyllus Celdrus was a prominent member of one such conspiracy. An Urban Tribune, he has for some time been building up a powerbase among the masses and intelligentsia of the city. A radical and powerful orator, he's been tolerated largely because it was thought removing him would be more trouble then it's worth. This was probably a mistake.

A skilled political operator, excellent orator and wealthy man, he's bought off a significant portion of the praetorians which keep order in the city. More importantly, his chief co-conspirator and personal friend Cauis Aelius is considered a rising star in the Legions and is commanding one of the major garrisons for the central province, with several allies scattered around other high ranking posts in the central Legions and the garrisons and administrations of several major towns in the Central Provinces.

With the fall of the Emperor and the resulting chaos streams of anxious letters, several technically illegal military maneuvers and a few mutiny's have sent all of the Conspiracy's military strength gathered around the Capital and the other bases of support where they can probably secure local control. Of course, the Capital isn't per se under control yet, but Celdras is waiting for the legions to arrive to make his move.

    People of Note
    Spoiler
    Show

Antyllus Celdras: The radical politician, lawyer and orator behind the Conspiracy, Celdras is very much the heart and soul of the movement. Tall, but at this point somewhat haggard from weeks of stress and sleeplessness. Nevertheless, he's filled with a frenetic energy, especially when it comes to speaking before an audience or defending his ideals.

Cauis Aelius: Celdras' childhood friend and long-time political ally, he has ha a short but extremely successful career in the Legions, and it shows, both in physique and the number of scars he has. He still cuts quite a dashing figure and is an inspiring, capable general. Even if he isn't the best at the cloak-and-dagger politics he's been submerged in for the last few years.

    Stats
    Spoiler
    Show

Military: Extremely High: The Legions in the central province are usually filled with those well connected enough to avoid active combat duty, but they are still an extremely formidable force, and usually quite well equipped.

Wealth: Medium-High: The networks of patronage and influence funding the conspiracy are truly something to behold, but beyond that Celdras has solid control of the Capitals grain supply, and the cities being seized all have somewhat substantial tax bases.

Technology: Low: The garrisons maintain several armories and manufactures that could theoretically do things besides mass-producing weaponry, but they aren't at the moment and there's no guarantee they'd be good at it.

Morale: Medium-High: The actual officers and conspirators are all pretty solid ideologues and behind the cause. The soldiers following them are of less certain loyalty, but can generally be expected to follow orders.

Reputation: Low, Celdras is leading an underground political faction, not a state, he's only really known in the political circles of the Capital and the area's being brought under control.

Magic: low: The Legions have excellent battlemages, but aside from those the Conspiracy has very little to call on, and there's not that many of them anyway.

Espionage: Medium: They've got the cloak and dagger know-how necessary for their line of work, but they're more happy amateurs at this sort of stuff then expert.

    Show
Empires generally expand by conquest; where there is war, there are those who seek to profit from it. The Imperial Legions handled the bulk of battle, of course, but there were always those who needed a few more men, or perhaps required special talents not available among the rank and file. Although the practice of hiring mercenary companies was not common, it was far from unheard of. But not all are content to feed on scraps from another man's table.

Marinus Laenus was one such man. A dispossessed noble from the Empire exiled after a nasty incident with a tax collector, he founded the Winter Crows mercenaries from a loose collection of brigands and desperate peasants before leaving, seeking his fortune in the wilder free kingdoms. Though the Crows were highly successful and managed to carve a reputation for themselves, thoughts of his lost lands were never far from Marinus's mind.

When the news of the Emperor's death reached him, he knew his time had come. He swiftly sent messages to other sellsword captains he felt he could trust, promising them wealth and power if they would join with him. Marinus's words convinced more than enough for his purposes, and at the mountain town of Silverlode, they struck a bargain. The companies would march under his orders, with the express directive of seizing control over as much of the weakened Empire as possible. Together, they would forge a new future, a new order. A new home.

    Faction Stats

    Spoiler
    Show
Military: High. When you fight other people's battles for a living, you tend to either develop a certain skill at your job or die off very quickly. The Contract can boast of hardened veterans from a dozen different nations and races.

Espionage: High. Leaving aside the number of contacts such a disparate force has developed over their respective careers, Marinus has emphasized training in stealth and covert operations.

Wealth: Low. While many members of the Contract have developed close relationships with traveling merchants and the like, much of their money goes directly to the various captains and officers. In addition, securing the loyalty of so many mercenaries took a great deal of gold. It will take time for the Contract's coffers to fill once more.

Technology: Medium. Many companies travel with siege engineers or artisans, and a surprising number of enlisted mercenaries have picked up a knack for mechanisms over their careers.

Morale:Low. As the saying goes, there are old sellswords and there are bold sellswords, but there are no old bold sellswords. When battle goes against them, the average member of the Contract begins to look for a swift way out.

Reputation: Low. Most see Marinus as just another power-hungry warlord, if they've heard of him at all.

Magic: Medium. The Contract can call upon a great deal of hedge wizards, low-level warlocks, wandering magicians and the like along with several powerful battlemages. They do not lack for mystical support.

    Faction Trait

    Spoiler
    Show
Field Requisitions. Some of the more brutal or practical captains can be turned loose on the populace, generating wealth and supplies. Overuse of this trait can turn public opinion against the Contract.

Sounds like a fun game, here is my faction:

    The Shinning Coin Emporium

    Background:
    Spoiler
    Show
The Shinning Coin Emporium was relativly small before the Empire fell. War is a great way to earn money as armies need weapons, armor, food and what not. Citizens are desperate and will turn in all their wealth just to get their family save. Roonwicket Nuggetpicker , a Gnome Merchant and inventor understood this concept and made his business grow from a small family business (The Shinning Coin) to a huge emporium. If you need it, the Emporium has it. If they don`t have, they can get it.

    Stats:
    Spoiler
    Show

Military: Low, The Shinning Coin Emporium has some muscle as protection. If need be they just buy more.

Espionage: High, Supply and Demand is the base of trading. Therefore knowing the demand before someone asks gives you a headstart in negotiations.

Wealth: High, war has filled the Emporiums coffers. There is little money can not buy

Technology: Medium, The Nuggetpickers are cunning and understand technology and engeneering. Trade is now their main focus though, tinkering a hobby.

morale: Medium, The Nuggetpickers are very loyal to eachother. The other merchants working for the emporium usually work on a "Highest Bidder" base.

Reputation: Medium, If you need something the Emporium usually has it. This also means shady business is done.

magic: Low, The Shinning Coin Emporium has some artifacts but no real magic on its own. They usually combine little magic they have with technology.

There is little money can not buy - Im not exactly sure but im thinking of something that makes The Shinning Coin Emporium able to use wealth in a more efficient way to increase other stats temporary...or bribing the military force of other factions.

    The Reborn Rhunic Shogunate (RRS)

    Description:
    Spoiler
    Show
Ages ago, before the Empire's creation, this land was home to a mighty nation of dwarves, sprawled across the continent. The Rhunic Shogunate. Its forgeholds dotted the surface, with mines digging deep within the earth for precious metals and gems, belching forth black smoke as they crafted weapons, armor, and tools with skill we can barely rival today. With a realm spread across the surface and depths, the dwarves paused in wonder. The spirits had gifted them with such bounty and prosperity... But they turned back to their work, as they had no time to dawdle.

Not content with simply mastering this land and stagnating, a succession of Shoguns pushed for a naval expedition to explore what lay beyond the horizon, to map the world and bring its wealth back to the forgeholds. But whatever they discovered and found was lost to us in this day and age as this great civilization was brought to a premature end. The birth of our own glorious empire placed the two cultures into conflict, and for reasons I personally am unsure of, we came out the victor. Whether due to cowardice or disaster, the dwarven army vanished. The civilians of the forgeholds quickly sued for peace, agreeing to subject themselves to the Empire's rule and arm the Legions for a century under the Treaty of Khaz Mordun. With the Shogunate's dissolution and newly acquired dwarven weaponry, our ancestors easily drove out the remaining powers of the land and took total control.

In the time since, the Rhunic clans have become economic powerhouses, providing superior goods throughout the Empire as well as trading other's products across many markets. They still retain their skill as smiths, shipwrights, and sailors though due to the Treaty they signed all those centuries ago, they are barred from martial service of any kind. If only we could have seen what would have happened had their armies not deserted them in their time of need...

-Excerpt from Pre-Imperial Times, written by Lord Harris, the Imperial Historian to the Emperor

Unbeknownst to the Empire, the dwarf clans have toiled in secret, spending years preparing their plot to reclaim their lands from the Legions' blades. Their military had vanished all those years ago not out of fear, but out of logic. The Empire was too strong to combat, so Clan Madhammer (the soldiers and marines of the Kingdom) took to the seas on their fleet of ironclads, heading far away from their place of birth to await a time when the Empire could be beaten. The other clans stayed behind, to go about their own preparations. Money, power, connections. With time, you could acquire anything. So they built themselves into economic superpowers, leveraging their naval and crafting traditions to muscle out smaller competition, and acquiring contacts and agents across the realm.

Then the Emperor had to go and get himself killed. The call to the fleet was sounded, a century before the appointed time. With the return of Madhammer, the Clans have rallied their combined might behind their Shogun, prepared to use all their resources in a fight to rebuild their shattered nation.

    Daggers in night drawn
    Battle standards raised on high
    The Clans march on home

    Stats
    Spoiler
    Show
Military: Extremely High. Every dwarf of Clan Madhammer is trained from the moment he or she can stand upright in how to fight and how to sail. They have lived for this moment, for the time to come when they march to reclaim their homeland.

Espionage: Extremely High. The merchant clans have spent centuries obtaining contacts and training operatives in their pursuit of economic domination. Now, they are activating their cells to begin paving the way for the liberation.

Wealth: Extremely High. The clans have spent centuries taking control of the economic world. They have a veritable army of craftsmen, merchants, lawyers, and couriers.

Technology: None. Along with the enforced disarmament of the merchant clans, the Empire required them to halt all scientific developments in order to prevent secret developments of weaponry. The clans have since utilized their wealth to acquire any inventions necessary for their business, preferring not to anger their former occupier.

Morale: Average. While the dwarves are united in their goal of rebuilding their civlization, they also have a number of issues in reintegrating the disparate clans. Their racial pride has helped alleviate the most severe issues,

Reputation: None. While the merchant clans are relatively well known, the Shogunate is not. The fleets have only just arrived and have yet to fully disembark the battalions. The world has yet to learn to fear the dwarves fury...

Magic: None. The Runecasters were the first targets of the Empire's invasion long ago, and the art was lost. Some of the clan hope to delve into the lost forgehomes to attempt to revive the tradition, but there are more immediate concerns in Shogun Osric's eyes.

    Special:

    Show
    Traits:
The Deep Roads: The Dwarves know their way around the tunnels their ancestors carved all those ages ago. When assaulting a fortified position or infiltrating spies into one, the RRS receive a bonus to the appropriate stat.

I'll try to figure out my trait in the next few days. XCOM and school are being rather time consuming...

    The Enlightened Revolutionary Army

    Discription
    Spoiler
    Show
The E.R.A is group mostly composed of socialists, anarchists, grumpy peasants and oppertunists. It's core teaching is:
    The Empire was a failure.
We can build a better society.
In order to build a better society we have fertile land on which to build it.
We must have a force capable of taking and defending said land.
The death of the emporer was a divine call to arms.
Only after claiming a large, fetile and defensable area of land can we create a society in which we all can live prosperous and peaceful lives.
    No we can only fight.

Most of the E.R.A's strength is towards the heart of the empire, where various minor unsatisfied peasant rebelions have formed a loose coalition under the E.R.A. Many other people believe in the E.R.A.'s "better society" but don't live in places where there are people openly fighting for it. Within the E.R.A. there are many beleifs about what this better society will look like. Views include anarchy, oligarchy, socialism, communism, theocracy, democratic republic and several other ideas as well. Some people just see it as a way for them to take charge.

Magic - High many wizards joined in hopes that the E.R.A's "better society" would impose less retrictions on magical practice than the empire did.
Tech - Low it is mostly composed of poor farmers, wizards, and philosophers none of those people haveaccess to much technology.

    The Thalitean Cult

    DESCRIPTION
    Spoiler
    Show
The Trolls may be the most ancient thing in the world, but there are things from the outside, and they are hungry. Thirty years ago, a meteor fell from the sky, landing in the seaside town of Clurt, and when it smashed into the ground a horrible thing was released. It eventually gathered a following of devoted worshippers. They slowly began to spread their twisted "religion", and eventually began building vast underground temples where the creature's nature-perverting teachings were taught. Now that the empire has cracked open, the cult of Thality is ready to take over.

    STATS
    Spoiler
    Show
Military: Medium low: The fanatics of Thality are supported by a great deal of eldritch horror, but the infantry aren't professionally trained.

Espionage: Medium-high: The fanatics can surprisingly willing to restrain themselves, and eldritch glamours help quite a bit.

Wealth: Low: thievery can only get you so far.

Magic: High: Having things explained to you by a eldritch thing helps, but most wizards are a bit undisciplined.

Technology: Medium: The eldritch devices keep the rating middling, but the stuff the cultists have come up with are horrible.

Morale: High: The cultists are very devoted and the monsters don't know fear.

Reputation: Very low: Rumours have gotten out, despite the secrecy.

    NOTABLES:
    Spoiler
    Show
The voice from the pit: The original thing that came from the sky, it is a 'conduit', a sort of portal that can release beings from the dimension it came from.

The Speaker To The Masses: Gunther Bilius Tobias Crocker found the meteorite, and the fresh radiation turned him from a regular boy into a half farspawn demon-man.

    Royal House Askor

    Description
    Spoiler
    Show

The Aksor family has been a loyal part of the empire for many generations, with many of the old heads of house being prominant members of the Legions. Those times were long ago, and the family has since become a merchant family with connections all over the empire. Although the family has no blood relations to the emporer, they were friendly and the Aksor family had a heavy say in the court. They have been trying to gain more power in the empire in recent years, so the current death and dissapearance has casted the family into doubt with many in the empire.

The Aksor house is currenlty headed by Sir Jancor, who has been at the head of household since his father died 18 years ago, but is getting old. He has two sons, Regius and Tallius, and a daughter, Bella that handle many of the houses problems in his stead.

    Stats

Military: Medium High - When the empire fell, House Askor acted quickly to gain favor with some of the different Legion Generals, and now have a decent military force at their disposal

Wealth: Very High - A merchant family for a few generations, they have large holdings that include farms, mines, factories, and markets.

Technology: Very Low - Most of the Technology of house Askor was purchased (or stolen according to some) from others who did the research

Morale: Medium - People that serve house Askor enjoy serving and having a secure job, although it is work.

Reputation: Medium Low - People not serving House Askor haven't had problems with the family, but they don't seem to care much about the common folk

Magic: Low - The Askors employ a few mages, although the family itself has little talent

Espionage: High - The Askors have connections all over the empire, and some with forgien countries.

    The Novastorm Alliance

    Description
    Spoiler
    Show
The Novastorm alliance is the ruling organization of the city of Paradigm One. It is a oligarchian ruling body composed by: the current Khola, the Red Archmage, and the Zensunn Overseer.
The Khola is the de-facto head of the state and all of his decisions are final, the others two are "simple" advisors.

For centuries Paradigm One was disguised as a coal mining operation on the edge of the empire, absolutely a non-interesting city with walls blackened by coal dust and no entertainment available.

What people do not know however are the vast underground constructions beneath the surface. Huge research centers and luxury housing exist barely a few meters below the earth and it is where the Empire carries all their research projects both on technology and magic.

A great idea indeed, blueprints worth tons of gold shipped with low quality coal trucks that do not attract any interest at all. Magicians that could carve holes in reality and turn people inside out on a whim dressed as humble coal workers, ready to join the imperial forces once they arrive at destination.

Now, everything has changed. With the sudden death of the Emperor and the ruling body shattered the copious funding of gold for tech and magic research has been severed. Paradigm One depends on the outside for food and other supplies so secrecy is no longer affordable.

They must come out and carve their place into the shattered empire, or they will starve to death.

    Stats
    Spoiler
    Show
Military: (Medium) - Hailing from a single city they can draw on low manpower, however the superior technology of the Zenssun and the Red Wizards' magical power are a force to be reckoned with.

Espionage: (Low) - All their intelligence officers are busy keeping enemy spies away or spying back and forth the Zensunn and the Red Wizards.
Furthermore their knowledge of other factions is extremely limited, so spies wouldn't blend well and easily noticed.

Wealth: (Low) - The imperial founding was abruptly severed with the disappearance of the ruling body of the empire. As such the coffers of the Novastorm Alliance are running low.

Technology: (Very High) - The Zensunn of Paradigm One are the most secret and effective research organization of the Empire. Most of the technological innovations come from them, funded by the empire and re-branded to keep secrecy.
This allowed them to carry on a lot of "separate" projects to assure their position as a step above the empire.

Magic: (Very High) - All mages and priests of the city are grouped together into an organization known as The Red Wizards. Centuries of imperial founded research and absolutely no moral restraint allowed them to delve in powerful and forbidden arts.
They are the best, and know it well.

Morale: (Medium) - Both the Red Wizards and the Zensunn have their own agendas and the Khola strives to keep them directed towards his goals due to their mutual distrust. The Khola's task is a hard one indeed, as he cannot afford the withdrawal of support from one or both sides or civil war will certainly erupt.

Reputation: (None) - They are a secret organization. The city of Paradigm One is on the edge of the empire disguised as a coal mining operation. Empire regulation and military presence kept all "curious" people away with ruthless efficiency.

    Special
    Spoiler
    Show

Influence is basically zero. Except for the Paradigm One city they are not known yet.

Support: Paradigm One city only, with their full resources.

Trait: Secret Weapon / Forbidden Spell: Each <to be determined> turns the Novastorm alliance can use one of their Secret Weapons / Forbidden Spells to gain <to be determined> advantage in one combat.

I fully expect that. I'm not playing this faction because I expect to live terribly long. I'm playing it because the time leading up to that will be awesome.

And besides, I'm not killing everyone. Merely anyone who opposes the re-establishment of the empire. I might actually be able to ally with the other imperial factions, and will ignore any factions that the legion perceives as likely to rejoin once the outright rebels are dealt with.

That being said, there will always be a target for my military. Either there will be rebels/foreign powers to target, or I will put forward a motion to re-establish the empire. If people accept the proposal then the Empire has been re-unified and the legion's purpose has been served. So in that case I consider it a victory, with the only stated goal of the legion being accomplished. but that is unlikely to happen. Once some people reject the proposal for one reason or another it opens up another group of targets for my MIL. And given that fellow imperial factions will be safe I could actually make it far in this game.

Or perhaps the imperials will decide I am destroying their reputation and join with the group attempting to kill me. We'll see.

I'll be going for an economy/tech faction, with militarization as the situation demands. As a fellow imperial agent, you could easily gain my support by supporting me militarily.

Send me a request IC and if you haven't been actively disloyal (and it is practical to march my army to where you are) then you can probably count on the support of the legion in return for merely making a public declaration that you support the re-establishment of the empire.

In fact if I am not otherwise occupied any faction loyal to the Empire could probably get aid this way. Any disloyal factions? If I am not otherwise engaged expect me to come bashing down the door of the nearest non-loyal faction if I have the MIL to spare.

proudest moment of my life...i made my first table!

okay time to be serious, QTs are nearly done and they will be PMed by me or ragingrage(or both) tomorrow or the next day. tomorrow i hope to be finalizing a map as well, but things might be a little slow since i have family coming for a couple days.

with that said, i hope to start this weekend.
