Nicolau's reaction is lightning-quick. In a flash, his hooksword is brought out to deflect the dagger. He starts to approach Herman, blade drawn and ready to parry. His other hooksword remains undrawn.

[McBish]

Arena #2

Ah good, fast reflexes time to play then. Two more daggers flash out are thrown at the man as Herman steps back keeping his distance from Nicolau for now.

[Devixer]

Arena #2

Another swipe of his hooksword and Nicolau deflects both daggers thrown at him. He speeds up his approach while remaining ready to parry any attacks.

[McBish]

Arena #2

Herman grunts in annoyance as his daggers get knocked away so he draws his own battered sword and charges forward. He swings for Nicolau's head hoping to overpower his opponent. Keeping an eye on that other sword though, and keeping his other hand hidden in his cloak.

[Devixer]

Arena #2

Nicolau catches Herman's sword by crouching a little and blocking his swing with the hook of his own blade. As he does this, his other hand goes to the hilt of his other hooksword. He's stronger than his physique and respirator make him look, and is able to keep from being overpowered.

[McBish]

Arena #2

Herman will lash out with kick towards Nicolau's knee. Meanwhile he will raise his sword up and smash it back down hoping to wear the man out.

[Devixer]

Arena #2

Nicolau's knee is hit by a kick. He feels it, but remains stable. As Herman raises his sword. Nicolau waits until the last moment to shift underneath the swing and unsheathe his second hooksword, and try to bring it down on his arm.

[McBish]

Arena #2

Herman takes a jump back out of range mid swing. He swings his sword around in his hand grinning at Nicolau. Seems he is pretty quick himself. He waits for Nicolau to attack.

Arena #2

Nicolau steps back and starts to circle around Herman, looking for a weak spot. He flops the blades in his hands fairly frequently.

[McBish]

Arena #2

Herman spins in place watching Nicolau. His left hand is still hidden beneath his cloak, though it seems less like a weakness and more like a hidden weapon in there. He seems light on his feat bouncing up and down always moving. Maybe he could take advantage of Herman being showy spinning of his sword.

[Devixer]

Arena #2

Nicolau's eyes narrow before he makes his move. He feints to the right, and then goes left while swinging one of his hookswords upwards to try and catch Herman's sword, or maybe his wrist.

[McBish]

Arena #2

Herman's sword is caught, but he pulls out a short sword in his other hand going to stab at Nicolau.

Stands

NEW CHALLENGER!

Amidst the growing crowd cheering and jeering on the bloodshed in the pits, a man takes to his feet. This isn't much to note, when dozens all around him have already abandoned their seats to shout and stomp and shake their fists, but when he draws a blade, that does get people's attention.

Alright, I think I'll take a shot! Who's for a fight then?!" The man roars, brandishing his rapier about in a blur of metal. He's a spry fellow, with a neatly trimmed little goatee of gold and a combed, slicked back mane of the same color, garbed in an overcoat of chain.

Arena #2

Situations like this are one of the reasons Nicolau started wielding two swords. He has the other one at the ready, and blocks the shortsword. At the same time, he tries to headbutt Herman, to stun him.

[McBish]

Arena #2

Herman almost goes for the headbutt himself but sees his opponent start and quickly ducks his chin hoping that it will mean Nicolau's soft nose hits the top of his hard skull.

[Devixer]

Arena #2

Well, it would, but Nicolau's soft nose is covered by his not nearly as soft respirator, so that's what hits Herman's skull instead. As he hits, he steps back just once and tries to drive the edge of one of his hookswords upward into Herman's chest.

Mid-Stands

"Ah, but that could just be temporary until they sobered up, and they might well have regrets afterwards," Patty points out. "Not that a little wine doesn't hurt, of course. And I'll put 50 on the ogre." Just to be perverse!

Billie shakes her head. Patty's religion still seems too complicated.

[McBish]

Arena #2

Ah yes, that was quite silly of Herman to forget about. Well that smarts, as Nicolau takes a step back Herman does as well, and then leans back bending at the hip to try and avoid the hookblade coming at him. But he isn't quite quick enough, and while the many sharp objects strapped to him offer some protection, the blow still draws blood from the wound on his chest.

He tries to knock aside the mans blades with his large sword and drive his smaller sword into Nicolau, preferably somewhere near his lung.

Billie shakes her head. Patty's religion still seems too complicated.

"So, what is it like following Dionysus?" Patty asks, steering the conversation perhaps back in a less complicated direction as she sips her ale.

[Devixer]

Arena #2

Nicolau steps back once his hookswords are knocked aside, but he isn't fast enough to avoid the whole blow. Luckily, the light armor under his clothes keeps the blade from piercing a lung, but blood is certainly drawn.

As he realizes this, he changes his stance again, to one balanced between offends and defense. "Yes... Come for me..."

[McBish]

Arena #2

Herman senses the change and takes a step back and drop kicks his short sword at Nicolau. It isn't as hard as it sounds, really it is more dropping the sword catching it with your foot and throwing it forward. A good juggler might nod figuring they could do that. It is a weird attack and has a good potential for doing no damage.

Herman staggers backwards though rubbing his head where he just got hit. A clever ruse, or maybe that just really hurt.

"So, what is it like following Dionysus?" Patty asks, steering the conversation perhaps back in a less complicated direction as she sips her ale.

"It's just one big party, all the time. Dionysus is amazing!" Billie gushes.

[The Bushranger]

[Mid-Stands]

"I get the feeling you're rather devout," Patty says with a chuckle. "And these are really good parties, I take it?"



[Arena]

The cloaked, rapier-wielding chap happens to still be circling the arena, considering potential opponents.

Mid-Stands

"I never had no use for religion before I met Dionysus, but then I did, and found out I've been living by his ideals all my life. He's amazing. And the party here in Riverside - it was the best week of my life." Billie gushes.

[The Bushranger]

Mid-Stands

Patty smiles; Billie's enthuiasm is a bit infectious.
"I heard a lot about that...ah, party. Most reports described it more as a riot. But I guess that wasn't the case?"

Mid-Stands

"I didn't see any riots. No violence at all, till some leech-lovers ambushed me and took me to Mosquito Manor. And they claimed I was the one causing trouble!" The indignity!

Nicolau easily deflects the drop-kicked short sword. He doesn't give Herman much time to rub his head. He rushes forward with his hookswords and tries to slash them both at his opponent's chest.

[McBish]

Arena #2

Aw, Herman was counting on surprise at getting a sword kicked at you might help him out. As Niolau comes at him again his hand whips out a chain with a heavy weight on the end flies out of his sleeve trying to wrap around Nicolau's neck.

He swings his large sword doing his best to block both blades, avoiding another wound on his chest but he is now bleeding from the arm hodling the chain.

Arena #2

Having a heavy chain around your neck certainly is not convenient. But rather than struggle and waste his strength, Nicolau sheathes one of his hookswords as quickly as he'd taken it out. He grabs the chain with his now-free hand and tries to pull at it to get Herman off his feet.

Herman is happy to be pulled in slashing with his sword as he tries to circle around the man.
