Suddenly you see.

The endless swarm of goblin cultists continued to be endless. Sojan stood as a bastion at the doorway. Fix had flanked the other doorway. Each goblin who had dared step into the death zone soon had it's life ended.

But it hadn't been without consequences. A hobgoblin had slipped into the room through the mists, unseen by Sir Erky. Fix's attack had hit nothing but air as it charged through. Sir Erky barely had time to brace himself as the spear had run through his body. As he hit the ground other goblins took the opportunity to attack his unconscious body, screaming in joy.

Fix had immediately lashed out at the hobgoblin who had run Sir Erky through. Her cobalt light had flared up angrily through the fog. Her blow had caught the unarmored hobgoblin in the back of it's head. The sound of his body hitting the floor did little to satisfy Fix. She shouted back to Sojan, "Sir Erky is down! They're killing him!" The pain in her voice was impossible to miss.

Don'Moar could be heard snarling and roaring somewhere in the mists. The screams of goblins indicated they hadn't much enjoyed the tiny creature. You had felt the cold blast as the dragon breathed on his opponents and you began to worry that you might accidentally be caught in his cone with how close it had come to hitting you. In fact, if Sir Erky still lived he would have laid somewhere in the blast zone.

At that moment a goblin had figured out the ruse and stepped boldly through the illusion and immediately attacked Emlyn. The half-elf had parried the creature's attack with his longsword, but it was clear the trick was up. Fix had quickly dispatched the creature and Emlyn let the spell drop and stepped forward to help his allies.

He had been near death moments ago but it was clear that the reprieve had given him time to heal. Which had been fortunate as he found himself getting hit in the chest, again, with a heavy pick. He spit blood and grinned manically at the goblin.

Fix you had been hit again as well in the side of your face and momentarily you couldn't see out of that eye. Then suddenly you had seen everything. The mist lifted from the battlefield. You saw what you had left and they all saw you.

Sojan takes stock of the battlefield and his confidence wanes. They'd hammered through a small army so far but still had a ways to go. Seeing that he had his fair share of goblinoids queued up in the doorway, Sojan decides that he needs to stay put to prevent the group getting further flanked.

Fix looks through the still-large crowd, but instead of dismay she feels confidence. She was injured, and they were vastly outnumbered, but the goblin horde was no longer endless. They had limited numbers now; and those numbers could be depleted. "I can't move either; we'll just need to kill them all!"

The hobgoblin Sojan attacks locks eyes with his target and is able to easily block the morningstar with his shield.

Fix you too find your attack dodged. Now that your opponents can easily see you both your attacks miss.

Emlyn locks blades with a small scrawny goblin that has clearly picked up a weapon it doesn't know how to use very well. In fact it might be the heavy pick Sir Erky was using.

Don'Moar jumps up from the floor suddenly into the a cultist but again the goblin is able to easily see what the dragon is doing. He catches the little guy with his heavy pick drawing more blood and wounds from Don'Moar.

The dragon's claw attacks find nothing but the goblin's shield. He lands on the floor and with his long neck is able to bite into the frozen scrawny goblin over Sir Erky's body.

Fix tries not to cry out as she is struck, but it is little use. The pain is obvious in her voice, but she has no more infusions, no scrolls of healing. All she can do is wait, and hope that Sojan's healing aura will be enough to keep her on her feet. Warforged cannot bleed out, but they can certainly be hacked to pieces.

The goblins had fought poorly before. The disgusting creatures had been obscured by the spell before. For really the first time you had clearly seen your opponents. Even the weak and scrawny of the lot had looked terribly scarred and disfigured.

As the spell lifted you had seen Sir Erky's lifeless body on the ground, it had been unclear in the chaos if your aura was helping him or not. Frost covered his face and a goblin stood fighting on top of him. Next to Erky laid the bodies of at least four other goblins, and at least one dolgrim.

"I can't get there, try and stand over him!" Sojan had shouted. He was locked in battle with a hobgoblin decked out with shield and armor. A strong fierce opponent who had begun shouting even louder once the spell had worn off. He easily had blocked Sojan's attack and countered with an attack that had slammed against Sojan's mithral helmet so hard that for a second it had stunned him. Another hobgoblin had taken that opportunity to run his spear through Sojan's shield arm.

Fix was heavily wounded. Her limbs had felt like she no longer controlled them. "I can't move either; we'll just need to kill them all!" Fix had forced her mouth to say despite it's objections.

The goblin facing her screamed loudly at her, spittle landing on the warforged composite plating. She had had enough, and swung her attack at the goblin. He surprised her by dodging behind the pillar slightly and her fist connected solidly with the pillar. She had overextended herself and the goblin had taken that moment to spin back and swing his heavy pick into the side of Fix's head. A blow like that would have been fatal to a human. The warforged nearly collapsed as well.

Her world had grown very dim. Sojan's healing aura was all that stood between life and slumber. For the briefest of moments the thought of laying down and falling asleep appealed to her.

Don'moar had gotten himself surrounded. He shouted something out in draconic, but his words fell on deaf ears. Instinctively Sojan had glanced at Serra to translate and found himself looking at a changeling's dead body. Don'moar was hit by a heavy pick, and then another heavy pick, and then clubbed. He had fought viciously, the goblin he had in his mouth he took down with him. Don'moar went all in, leaving himself open as he tore into the goblin.

Another club ended it all. Don'moar fell unconscious to the ground. But the hoard was not done, yet another goblin jumped on top of his unconscious body and started to strangle the dragon.

Fix's moment had ended. Anger and life blazed through her. The goblin who had struck her paid dearly. Her fist had slammed him so far it literally flung the goblin's body ten feet through the air and into a pillar. The sickening sound of bones breaking had silenced the goblin hoard and for the first time the damage the warforged was capable of was clearly seen by all. All goblin's present locked eyes onto the warforged. A mistake the hobgoblin facing Sojan paid for with his life.

"By the Dragon Below, why won't you just die?" Sojan had said, breaking the silence as his morningstar had slammed into the hobgoblin's face.

Sojan's morning star snapped the hoard back into action. Although they were clearly not as reckless as they were before. They moved slowly advancing towards Emlyn, Fix, and Sojan. One of the goblins dropped the dragons neck and fastened a shield onto his arm and began looking for a weapon. He had a terrified look in his eyes.

The armored goblins advanced forward and Emlyn planted his feet. A goblin had taken that opportunity to slam his heavy pick down through Emlyn's foot. Emlyn stumbled and fell to one knee, his shield getting caught under his body weight for a moment too long.
"Piss on you." Emlyn had said right before the second goblin's heavy pick took him through the half-elf's throat. Emlyn had fallen face down on the floor in a rapidly expanding pool of blood.

Sojan and Fix looked at each other with a grim look on their faces. Two vs nine. Sojan eyes lingered on Fix's damage. He had not liked what he had seen.

"Sojan, I-" Fix's voice is soft, but the two are back to back and it does not take much effort for him to hear her. She pauses, delivering another vicious blow to the guard in front of her, her magic still blazing down the lengths of her arms. "I have faith in you. If I fall, you can still win. We cannot despair, or we will surely die."

"God's damn-it, Fix, don't you die on me! We're almost out of the woods!" Sojan recalls a song from his conscription in the Last War. The goblinoid regiment he was assigned next to used to break into song during battle, an intimidation factor largely ineffective against the undead Karnathi legions. Though he only knew a spattering of what the words meant, he knew the tune and the lyrics well enough.
