You're monitor is not a.. wait what? Exactly how old is your monitor? I wasn't aware any monitor from this century still came in 4:3.

A decent monitor will last a pretty long time. I'm still using an old Sony flatscreen that I got back about 10-12 years ago. It's maximum resolution is 1280x1024 (which according to my calculations is 5:4, not 4:3, but whatever, it's still not widescreen). This monitor has outlasted two computers already and is showing no signs of slowing down (unlike my third PC, which is starting to have major performance issues).

It's kinda funny, but you can get a whole (low-end) computer now for what I payed for that monitor.

I have a 17" I bought in 2006. Still going strong. I've never understood the widescreen fascination. Mostly because I can't afford an upgrade.

Circa 2006, if I remember rightly. It's from my old computer - the new one didn't come with a new monitor.

I'm glad you were able to at least do post-action commentary rather than skip your first Terror mission.

No one ever goes into their first terror mission prepared. It's supposed to be brutal. If you had laser weapons and carapace armor, it wouldn't be nearly as scary.

It's that indelible mark it leaves on your mind... Terror Mission = Nightmare. Even when you've got Plasma and Ghost armor, gearing up for that final showdown, and terror missions are largely a breeze where you can collect frags... it's still something that makes your heart stick in your throat for a moment. Just because you will always remember your first time...

Yeah, I didn't want to skip the terror mission, especially with how unexpectedly well it had gone. I was not prepared for that.

Also, the first time I played this game, on Normal, I went through the tutorial. Since that gives you an Officer Training School straight off, I had the squad size upgrades by the time the terror mission showed up. Here, I didn't even have that.

Strangely enough I find Terror Missions generally relatively easy compared to ordinary missions, because the maps are usually urban and have lots of good cover and the civilians distract the enemies, let me know where they are and in general work as useful meatshields.

FYI, this isn't a function of doing the tutorial, but of playing the game on Easy or Normal difficulty.

Oh is it? I didn't know that. I've only actually played the game twice, and the first time through I played on Normal. I've got a rather large buffer zone recorded at this point, so I should be able to continue my policy of 1 video/day until the end of this series.

Part 11, by the way, is now up.

Yeah, now people won't have to go looking so much.

The next three, I think, episodes, by the way, are re-recordings. I forgot to save, and the game crashed, setting me back to the beginning of the Episode 13 mission. So I had to do a bit over again, and I got a slightly worse result than I might otherwise have had. Yay for glitches!

I've seen worse things happen on the train map. Like ducking into the train to dodge a couple of floaters... only to activate three groups of Mutons on the other side of the train...

Yeah, the train map is terrible for that sort of thing. I got sort of lucky on this one. I've had it where I moved someone up to the window and there are loads of things standing right next to the train.

Part 16 is up now, by the by.

Is there any games that is similar to X-Com (Customisable names and expendable units), other than Deathwatch and Space Hulk?
P.S- How would Iskandar's group be in Space hulk? Mine's on Terminator with Assault cannon.

Well, if we're just looking for those two aspects, Dwarf Fortress has that. Also occosianlly abject horrors from beyond the furthest stars/the darkest deeps that want to eat your face.

Just to let everyone know, I have now completely finished the game I was using for my Let's Play. Not all of the videos are up, obviously, though I have posted the ones up to and including the alien base. The rest will be coming, at a rate of about one/day, over the next little while. I've got them all processing and rendering down into actual episodes as I type this, and from the looks of things, it will be coming in at 59 videos. Not bad, I think.
