First Rpg game that you played.

For Rpg games, it is video games from west to east. My first Rpg game that I played was Pokemon in 2004, it was crystal version during gba era. Aside from the flashgames (non Pokemon Rpg), it was Skyrim that was my first Rpg game.

Shining Force, 1992. It was released a couple weeks before I turned five. My uncle rented it, I watched him play it, and then I got it for my birthday. How I wish I still had the original cart.

Bard's Tale on the Sinclair Spectrum, IIRC.

I was terrible at it though, never could figure out what I was meant to be doing or where I was meant to be going.


Then a bunch of PC RPGs, Mordor: Depths of Dejenol, Warwizard, and some other ancient shareware nonsense.

The earliest one I can remember is Chrono Trigger (came out when I was 6 or 7), there were probably a couple on the original NES when I was younger, but I couldn't tell you what they were.

Ultima V in... 1989... I think it was. I had a NES but didn't really play RPGs on consoles until the SNES and FF6. I mostly played (and still play) PCRPGs.

Hmm... That is kind of tricky to answer, as Role Playing Game was kind of hard to define in the early days of computer gaming.

I played Starflight on my Radio Shack Tandy 1000SX, which was technically an RPG as you had 6 characters in your crew: Captain, Science Officer, Navigator, Engineer, Communications Officer, and Doctor. But nobody was ever seen outside of the ship except the Captain when he was in the Spaceport. Everyone else was just a folder, and stats.

I also had the "Fill in the Blank" Quest games from Sierra: King's Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, etc, but those were one player/one character games. I played Final Fantasy II on the Super Nintendo as a rental game, but had to return it to the store before I got too deeep into it. Bought a friend's NES with a BIG stack of games, and played a lot of RPGs, starting with the original Final Fantasy.

But before I played CRPGs, I played Table-Top RPGs, starting with Eric Holmes' Dungeons and Dragons Boxed set, then Advanced D&D by Gygax, and Tom Moldvey's and David Cook's Basic and Expert D&D Boxed sets.

Gah, I don't even know, that was twenty five ish years ago. Possibly Ys I on the Sega system. Or maybe Zork, if that counts. A few roguelikes on Apple IIes, maybe Final Fantasy II/IV. All around the same time period.

I'm not entirely sure, but it was either Quest 64 or the GBC remake of Dragon Quest (Warrior) 1. I played those both around the same time period, and I've long since lost track of which I played first.

Though if Pokémon counts, it may actually be that. Blue version. I think I played that before either of the above, though again I'm not 100% sure. I really don't think of Pokémon as an RPG myself though.

Video Game: FF6, but I had no idea WTF I was doing so I got killed right away. After that, Pokemon Red/Blue like pretty much everyone else of my generation ever.

Tabletop: D&D 3.5, mostly as a GM as I was generally the more creative one of my group.

Rogue/Zork was probably the first, back in the days of ASCII art. Following that? Games like Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy for the NES. But I think Zork and Rogue came first. Also, Ultima. The original Ultima for the console. The original Bard's Tale for the Apple IIc might also qualify.

Swords and Serpents on the NES :) 2 player game I played with my younger brother. At the time he didn't understand the game except for pushing as many buttons as possible while I made the maps and managed the characters. IMO a classic, with great music, and the atmosphere: we had the console setup upstairs in the attic (without heating) where we had to wear our coats in winter and our cold fingers rattling on the controllers, adding much to the game.

Chronologically the very first I played was probably FF1 - but I was so young at the time and so immature that I had no idea what I was doing and had no patience for exposition of any kind. I just wanted to mash faces. So I really don't count that one as I didn't get very far with it.

The first RPG I genuinely understood - the thing that could probably be considered most responsible for my roleplaying today is Baldur's Gate. Truth be told I barely remember it except for trying to kill Gorian before leaving Candlekeep, and also killing people by accident and getting attacked by the Flaming Fist. Still - it was fun < ._.> and by the time I played BG2 I had a pretty firm grasp of how RPGs work and really got quite far. (In fact I'd have beat BG2 if not for my brother saving over my Paladin game <T_T>)

Does zelda for the nes count? If not, then dragon warrior. Too be honest, I cant even tell for sure. I mean, it was so long ago that its hard to remember clearly what was the first, but I do remember ff 3/6 was the first one to get me HOOKED.

Hm. I think it was Breath of Fire 3, for the PS1, unless there's some other ones I've forgotten (apparently we used to have some other rpgs that I've forgotten about, but I think it was just my parents that played them).

Its hard to remember that far back, but I think it was Phantasy Star IV when I was five years old.

To a five year old, that game is the greatest thing ever invented. Looking back on it now; kinda terrible.

Old Sierra games weren't RPGs, they were Adventure games. Pokemon, on the other hand, absolutely IS an RPG.



As for me, it has to be Final Fantasy 2 for the SNES. I would later go back and play some NES RPGs like Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior, but I didn't discover the genre until FF2.

Unless Zelda 2 counts. The first Legend of Zelda was Action/Adventure, but Zelda 2 was more like an Action/RPG. I consider it to be primarily an Action game with a few RPG elements included.
