    Default Azure Darkness [WIP, PEACH]

    The following setting is for a system I'm currently developing called Azure Darkness. The stuff here is only modifications and new information, with the real world as the base template.

    Technology and Knowledge
    Most of the world possess the same knowledge and technology they had in the real world 13th century, except that the Christian church possess 15th century tech and knowledge.

    Azure Darkness is setting the real-world during the 13th century, with only some changes. The majority of which are three locations; Aspidochelone, Eustaland, and Orasair.

    Aspidochelone
    Aspidochelone is an island which lies north of the British Isles. It is the homeland of the Fæ, and contains the majority of its population. The majority of its terrain is dense forest, but there is also a small marsh beside its south eastern shore. On its northern shore is an ice plain covering the water.

    There are three major settlements; Siryn, Normye, Ranar. Siryn is a small city which lies in the north western section of the island, it has a focus on trade because of its isolated position. Siryn holds a century olf temple to the gods of the Fæ, this temple is currently used for politcal matters.

    The Normye village sits within the plains west of the marshes, and is focused towards farming animals. Ranar is a small fishing community on the southern tip of Aspidochelone.

    The Children

    Fæ are manifestations of the world which surrounds mortals and were the first of the Children in existance. They dwell upon the evershifting island of Aspidochelone, and must manifest through vessels if they wish to leave. Each different form of Fæ has its own type of receptacle it can enter, and humans can also function as vessels though it results in a witch (see below).

    They were created as personifications of the true original state of existence, because of this change causes sickness in Fæ. Iron represents change in human culture, so Fæ burn at its touch. Strangely though, as Salt represents purity and stasis, it can repair the wounds of Fæ.

    Fæ generally aim to remain hidden from the mortals, as it is believed that if a large portion of the Mortals knew of the Fæ it would result in a paradigm shift which could kill the Fæ. Despite this, the general public do have myths of Fæ and have created various bits of folklore about them. These bits of folklore are generally incorrect though, and have no true relation to the actual Fæ.

    Fæ lack genders and do not reproduce sexually, instead new Fæ spawn when specific parameters are fufilled. Fæ take three years to mature, and generally have a lifespan of eleven years. They are also technically not sentient, as despite being able to think, they lack any true understanding on the nature of the world.

    Banshee
    Banshee are personifications of death and fate. They have a feminine appearance, are relatively tall compared to humans (standing 7 feet tall on average), with large abyssal eyes and pasty flesh covered in owl feathers. These feathers could be from any species of owl, though generally it is of a species local to the area of its spawning.

    Banshee possess the ability to afflict other creatures with doom, an ability known as Moros. Through a vocal trigger, they can cause danger to become exponentially more drawn to the victim. If this results in the targets death within a single night, they don't age for a single year, otherwise the effect ends and the Banshee instantly ages a year. In addition, if successful a new Banshee will spawn.

    As beings of fate they have minor powers of precognition, and some can perceive the future even during combat. They can also communicate with the dead, with a touch upon a corpse.

    When not on Aspidochelone, Banshee's may manifest themselves by possessing a mass of feathers and shaping it into a body.

    Mortals were the second of the Children in the world, and their very presence as truly sentient creature’s warped reality, creating the Nephilim. They also are the most primitive of the Children, possessing easily damaged souls and no defences against a Fetch's Shadow.

    Mortals possess several capabilities other Children cannot. They are capable of being used as vessels for Fæ, which allow them to gain reality manipulating talents at the risk of possession. They can transform into Tainted (except for Dhampyr) through some methods. They can become Undead after they die. They also possess sealed Qarīn, which have the potential of being awakened.

    Mortals are the only known creatures with souls.

    Nephilim are personifications of mortal thought and were the third form of Children. They are spread all over the world, though a large majority reside in Europe. Each different form of Nephilim has a different origin, though they all share the ability of guising themselves as normal humans. The true form of a Nephilim is referred to as it's Shadow, while its guise is known as a Persona.

    As the Nephilim are formed from thought, each has a specific drive and urges it must commit. At first these urges are minor and only need to be feed once a year, but it slowly grows into an addiction which requires to be feed more and more regularly. Failure to feed these urges results in a week of amazingly unbearable pain, after which the suffering Nephilim dies.

    Nephilim generally aim to remain hidden from the mortals, as them masquerading as mythical beings has granted them power and created whole sets of beliefs in humans. If they were exposed, this could create unrest and hostility.

    Nephilim possess genders and reproduce sexually. Nephilim take fifteen years to mature, and generally have a lifespan of thirty years.

    Fetch
    Born from primal fear, Fetch are eldritch creatures. To most their shadow form appears to have pale green flesh, lacking most features (such as faces), and long thin limbs. But this is merely a defence reflex of the mind; though because of the primitive minds of mortals they lack this defence.
    Any mortal who views upon their shadow, sees a horrible twisted abomination of flesh, which is so terrifying that it forces primal fear unto the mortal’s mind. This has two effects; firstly a form of terrified madness, and secondly, the mortal becomes immune to the persona of the Fetch species.
    The Persona of a Fetch is always a currently existing person of the same age, this individual can see through the persona of its Fetch. In addition, if that individual dies, then the Fetch gains a new Persona of a different individual.

    The Tainted are Mortals who have been changed or modified into a new state of existance before death. The different forms of Tainted are highly diverse, and share only a small number of similiarities.

    Tainted take most of their traits from their previously Mortal form; except they don't suffer when viewing Fetch, they cannot be vessels for Fæ, they cannot be turned into undead, their Qarīn is killed, and finally they lack souls.

    All Tainted are sterile, and salt stings their flesh.
