To be fair, I think this is just a projection. On the other hand... Space would actually be blindingly bright if you looked the wrong way (There's a reason all viewports and the like in space are filtered). Dominic ought to be blinded if he turns sunward.

I don't understand what's happening in this update. Not in the sense that I don't really get what's going on or why, I'v given up on that anyway.
No, this time I can't even follow the basic sequence of events here.

He stands up, takes a look around, sees he's in space and there's a door.
For some reason he immediately knows what that door is and where it should be, but I expect nothing less from Mookie.

He then without any motivation decides to take a step forward because he didn't care to look at his feet while standing on solid ground in space. Alternatively, he's been off the ledge the whole time and suddenly realizes that there's no such solid ground under him keeping gravity (in space) in check, Wile E. Coyote style.

Then he takes another look around and suddenly, he's in the Elemecca, which is now also in space.

    O...kay?

I hope that's not an oversight and Dominic was saved by divine intervention or something.
I mean, there are trainwrecks, and then there's seeing a train being propelled over a mountain of sharks that wear lobster masks and explode mid-flight.

And this would be like the explosions exploding into an exponential amount of explosions forever.

That is the awesomeness of Dominic Deegan - Oracle for Hire and its fan community in one sentence.

In short, it was the comic very slowly inching towards its inevitable conclusion. I kind of wish it was crazy teleporting Dominic, because this is predictable blandness.

So now performing an extraction means magic-stealing via lobotomy, when before it was just a way to get some information.

You'd think Mookie might want to keep one of his few somewhat clearly defined terms clear and just opt for a generic description of what happened. But no, he even goes and bolds it so everyone understands that this is a special thing.

    Because cross-references = cohesion.

    Always.

(Bonus points if he posts one of those linky reminders and doesn't even mention that extraction now has an additional meaning.)

Huh? Two strips ago it was being made very clear that the Beast was trying to kill Dominic. Now it was apparently just an extraction. I'm going to have to revoke your Weekends Off License, Mookie, if it just takes one weekend for you to forget what just happened in your comic!

So the door was hidden in plain sight for years, and no one bothered to just look under a city floating in space, when they knew it was supposed to be around there? Oh well.

It seems like violence is the best way to trigger just the right vision.
Pity the protagonists didn't know it, we could have had every arc start and then almost immediately finished with mc-punchy.

And I hope Dominic is at least starting to think that it might not have been a great plan to surrender himself.

Today's update is not actually an update, so I'm just going to complain about the art.

OK, panel 6. See that little mark above Dominic's closed eye? For the longest time, I thought that was a pupil, and that Mookie had simply forgotten how he draws eyes. And now you can't unsee it.

Also, I will never get over how bizarre it is that everyone in Dominion wears jeans.

Has Mookie explained why no-one lives or bothers to go to the Elemecca unless they're forced to by the plot? Not even a small base of research wizards or something exploring the huge deserted cosmic recycling station city?

Because, um, there are things there that we "do not have words for"? That's almost a reason, if you're sleepy and forgetful.

I laughed at that last panel, because of how goofy looking Rillian/Brian is. Brian was introduced as comic relief, how can anyone take this page seriously without being reminded of that scene where he essentially goatsed Dominic?

Sure, Rilian, just tell the seer that is completely losing his **** because he can't tell what's real anymore that you're also his friend from the airship cruise by changing your face in front of him and give him a look like you're about to offer him to guide him to the light beyond the stars, all he needs to do is take your hand, I'm sure that will convince him to trust you and not at all freak him out even more.

    Not just you.

Also, I'm looking forward to more plot progress being handed to our hero. I mean, just imagine if he'd actually do something of his own volition (besides giving up) for once. The horror.

This whole arc is such a glorious trainwreck.

Bringing in Rillian/Brian reminds me. Dom's under a lot of stress right now, why isn't he going all seerbomb mode here, or is the end of the world or whatever less troubling than not having mavpel candy.

What's this? Has Dominic made... A MISTAKE?

...Probably not, since "to bad it backfired," implies that it wasn't his fault. Plus, this is just another setup for all the puzzle pieces to fall into Dominic's lap and assemble themselves for him. And it's not like Dominic's stupidity will have any lasting consequences, anyway.

It seems like his plan was to get caught by one of the most powerful wizard in existence, giving him the last thing he needs (so it's not like he expected to be ignored in some dungeon), and somehow manage to escape after stealing something that he couldn't keep safe from that wizard's underlings.

So "backfired"? For a something to backfire, it must be some sort of actual plan in the first place.

What bothers me the most is not that Dominic made a stupid mistake, it's the fact that not one of his friends even try to tell him that it's stupid.

Edit: and why is Dominic so afraid it's an illusion? He told the king what he saw in the vision without any enchantment or illusion.

I just remembered the circumstances when "Brian" appeared.
Rillian was supposed to watch over Dominic because his mind nearly collapsed from stress, and that can be very dangerous with seers.

It's lucky Dominic just saw a friend die in front of him, lost a relic that serves as a key to the destruction of the world, witnessed a massive necromantic attack, surrendered himself, got tortured and lost faith in the one magic that is supposed to keep him immune from illusions.
Imagine what would happen if the king told Dominic he's out of candies!
