Short answer: I hear they're better for Spontaneous Casters as you can combine them on the fly which GREATLY increases your versatility.

There are small benefits:
Standard action summons (but you can only have a few out at a time unlike real Summon spells, using Boost I think raises level by 3 but increases number to 1d3+1)
