    Sirin Starshine

Sirin is so rattled by the fleeing guard's screams that she states the obvious.

"We have to move quickly. The Captain may be coming after us."

The half-elf conspirator takes a deep breath, silently cries for help and luck from her dark god Norgorber, then tries to acrobatically move through the open door without being slashed by the still-living guard defending it.

Just like in cheerleading practice, only now she is wearing armor and the stakes are so much higher.

Dazed, the guard reels back as Sirin slips by him. Fortunately for her, he's too blitzed by Bridget's magic to take a cut at the half-elf.

Sadly for the rest of the prisoners, his armor, shield, and self-preservation are keeping him alive.

Meanwhile, the guard who ran is halfway to the gatehouse, still yelling his head off. There's no way in hell they haven't heard him by now.

Sirin squeaks in dismay as she fumbles a maneuver and lays herself wide open to the guard's sword swing.

Hesitant to run into the open, Bridget waits in the doorway for a few tense moments. When its clear that the other Forsaken are not being perforated with arrows, she looks up at Grumbljack "Shall we?"

After a few tense seconds sprinting across the yard she comes to a hard stop against the wall beside the others, scanning the battlements for incoming archers and trying to keep Grumblejack in a position to shield her.

Sirin and Silas get halfway to the door, about equal with an ornamental fountain that hasn't seen water in years. The half-elf's keen eyes spot two archers on the Gatehouse battlements. They target shots at Silas and Grumblejack... Both going wide.

Nana Jodi and Bridget follow behind their respective shields, and Marthras finds his way to a few low hedges. Poor cover, but closer than the fountain. There's nothing between the fountain and the door the guard ran through. Hm, he's got a decent shot at the archers with the way they're leaning out...

Now that all of you are out and in the courtyard, you can get a good look at the gatehouse.

It's a three story building. The main entry way in the center is blocked by large, barred double doors. Looks like it'd take a good amount of work to open, at least two minutes of fiddling with mechanisms and bars.

There's a door on the western third of the Gate house. The arrow slits above it are unlit.

There's a door on the eastern third of the Gate House. This is the one that the guard ran through. Light spills from the arrow slits above the door. It flickers as someone moves between the light and the slit, briefly.

Two archers stand on the crenellated battlements of the Gate House roof, and by the looks of it they're not daunted by the target rich environment...

Silas leaned up against the side of the fountain, glancing around the courtyard to assess their situation. Looking up, he saw the two archers, and the movement to the East tower didn't bode well for the escapees. Damn amateurs are gonna get us all killed ...

At Bridget's question, he glanced back at the woman, silently approving of her train of thought. Counting, he wondered how many outer guards were on duty today. Let's hope Blackerly was skimming the books again ... Aloud, he hissed at the mage. "Keep your tricks ... we may need them when we get inside."

Once the arrows plinked to the side, missing them, he nodded to the western door and grunted at Grumblejack. "Get to the door, ogre. I've got your back." Looking back at Sirin, he called back. "Get that cute a$$ moving ... we might need those picks!"

He'd play the faithful companion with this group. At least until they proved themselves incompetent, or it cost him more than he was willing to pay.

Then all bets would be off.

Marthras fires a shot far wide, but it's noticeable enough to draw one of the archers into some fruitless counterfire.

The other archer plugs Grumblejack, who grunts in pain and annoyance as he switches his targeted destination from the eastern to the western door. He'll get there in a few seconds, but he looks puzzled. "We're not chasing the stupid guard?"

Sirin and Silas dash ahead, and get to the Western door. Sirin manages to haul out her picks as she goes, but it'll take a few seconds to try'em...
