yes they do share a heritage, kind of logical since the Dutch owned South Afrika for some time. but since then english and other more indigenous languages have entered a bit, So the differences really are there.

It was still pretty funny though. There was another time with that same ranger that to be able to get through a town gate, I slept with a whole guardhouse (like 10 guards?). It was awesome.

I remember a campaign I was playing... I was a Halfling Rogue. The other two were a Dragonborn Fighter & a Dragonborn Warlord. We killed everything except 3 gargoyles that were damaged & turned to stone on a ledge to heal up. We climbed up to pull them down, each of us targeting one.

As we approached, they flew about 15 feet from the ledge. We were, like, 30 feet up. Fluff the DM added after all our rolls were successful: Me and the fighter glance at each other, nod, and leap off the ledge, each onto a gargoyle. As our weight brings the gargoyles down to the ground, we wrestle them down to use as landing cushions, killing them both on impact, both landing upright & ready to continue the fight.

The numbers:
- Athletics check to jump.
- Grapple check (I think it was Athletics vs Con for the fighter & Acrobatics vs Ref for me? I kinda forget. Whatever the 4E rules were.)
- He let us use an acrobatics check to force our opponent downward, resulting in 150% fall damage to them & 50% fall damage to us.
- Acrobatics check to reduce my own fall damage to 0, so I didn't land prone. The fighter took some damage, but his magic boots allowed him to not be prone when he landed.

After all this, the DM decided to name the campaign "Legends of Wrestling 3". The next room involved the Dragonborns fighting in oil while I threw pies (from our Everlasting Provisions) at a thingy making sparks to prevent it from igniting the oil.

That was a fun campaign.

I have, in my frequent trawling of all mercantile avenues for ways to slake my wyrmish lust for material fineness, been fixated by this Etsy vendor of neck- and bow-ties for several months now.

The only problem is, there are too many to choose from. I wish that the discursives here might indulge me with their favourites.

Hmm, many of them are pretty indeed, although personally, I think I prefer deep colours (especially blue or green) together with minimalistic designs, which isn't quite what that site has to offer... They have many pretty ties, they just aren't for me.

Went to bed before midnight, woke up at ten. Then I remembered that I had homework for my Single Variable Calculus course that I had to hand it at 13:15. Progress with that one went slower than expected, since I'd forgotten how to calculate the tangent's equation and had to reason myself to the correct calculations. I was finally done at 12:30, but by then I was pretty much gone due to hunger, since I hadn't had any breakfast. Thankfully, despite being a slow eater, I managed to push two Gorbachevs down my stomach ("Gorby"s, or ready-cooked pasties. There are pan-pizzas called "Billy"s too ) and get there in time.

Saw something rather unusual over here: A bird of prey flying over the houses. I was studying the neighbourhood from our bathroom window when suddenly all fieldfares left all at ones from our neighbours great maple tree, and a smaller flock of great tits appears out of nowhere and lands in our two junipers, quickly making their way in between the thick branches. I wonder what caused all this commotion when a hawk (at least I think it was a hawk) enters the scene from the left. It seems rather unconcerned about the commotion around it and cruised past with little effort. So cool.

Well, when you know the trick for multiplying two strings of 1s, it's really easy, but if you don't, it's at least tedious (I wouldn't say hard, but I'm very biased toward thinking maths is easy). It's nothing I would ask of the man on the street to do, at least.

The trick (which only works if none of the numbers have more than 9 digits):
Start by counting up from 1 until you reach the length of the shorter number (12345), repeat the last digit until you reach the length of the longer number (1234555) and then count down to 1 again (12345554321). That's the answer.

With numbers longer than 9 digits, you get some weird overflow behaviour that doesn't match this pattern nearly as nicely (1111111111 * 1111111111 = 1234567900987654321).

Now, if you calculated that on your own without knowing the trick, then good job and I think it's reasonable to say that you're definitely better at head-counting than the average. If you figured out the trick yourself, I think you're worth an eulogy as well. If you knew of the trick since earlier and used it to get to the solution, well, that's hardly enough to say anything about your intellect, except possibly that you know how to count to 10.

I have at times calculated moderately tricky figures faster in my head than my friends have been able to on the calculator. It doesn't happen every day, but I still consider myself fast enough to prefer to work without one. Keeps my brain up to shape, which always is a good thing.
