Default What possible use for d10000?

So I take my kids to the local hobby store every now and again. They get a decent allowance to buy whatever they want. They love dice. My son is checking out the dice counter when he sees a pre-printed d10000 (yes, that is ten thousand) set (four ten-sided dice). When can I have him roll this?

If there are any encounter tables, magic item tables, etc, that are on the web or buyable I'd appreciate it. Otherwise off to make some tables.

i would say assemble a table with every creature in the game, as well as every template and every race, together.

then roll to see what your next character is.

I'd really like to see some pre-printed tables first, if at all possible. But, if those are not available, that is an option. As is an encounter table with all the Monster Manual creatures. Other ideas?

We Use d10000 to determine world building things - how big a villiage is, the distance between kingdom centers, things of that nature.

Honestly, in a playing setting, there really isn't a need for d10000 as there are few preprinted tables that go that high - I have a book of encounters (The Mother of All Encounter Tables) that does, but it's 3rd party.

Number of marbles in the carnival game jar.
Number of coins serving as the dragon's pillow.
Number of soldiers in BBEG's army.
Number of fish in the sea.
Number of people in random town.

These dice could be a fun way of making an adventure---or you could just pick the number yourself. But the dice can make it fun.

I'm fairly certain that FATAL uses a d10000 in character creation or something like that, but that would require playing FATAL, so it may not be worth it.

The immortal's handbook uses d10000 and up, but this would of course imply that you are using the Immortal's Handbook which in and of itself is an insult to you as a DM's intelligence

Yeah, no immortal's handbook, and no FATAL. Thanks, though. He already tried to use them to roll hp, I squashed that right away. Nice try though, I'll give him credit for that.

Good tip on encounter/treasure books. I'm the DM, so I can totally authorize 3rd party if necessary. Unless I can find those books cheap I'll need to homebrew some tables.

I can't recall the name of it off-hand, but there is a 3rd-party handbook that is a d10k table for various magical mishaps.

    Critical fumble mishap chart!

No, but really, most of the really big tables of "stuff to roll on" tend to be from the overcomplicated and poorly planned end of DMing, which manifests as critical fumble tables, critical hit tables, FATAL, deadEarth, and other such nonsense.

You'll probably have to make your own. Good luck!

Yeah, not really interested in critical fumble or magic mishap tables. The concept is interesting but execution seems consistently poor. Besides, my players create enough mishaps that they don't need a table!

This might be little extreme but you could just let him role this instead of a d20. and give various bonuses and penalties that are respectively higher.

"you need to roll a 6540 to hit the BBEG!"
"but i have a magic sword and he is cannot dodge well bc he is standing in water!"
"ok, you get +525 for the sword and +90 for the water on the floor; but you also get a -110 bc you doped your sword earlier and now the hilt is wet. btw if you do all of this in your head you get a +300 for quick thinking!"

An easier (and more exciting) way is rolling a d100 (or two d10s, with each being designated for a "ten" and a "one".

Ask the PC "even or odds?"
    PC- Even
DM- Rolls until an even pops up, adding the numbers in order

For example, if they call even, and the DM rolls 91, 29,35, 77, 12 <----- Stops at the even

If rolling for gold then the PC just found 9,129,357,712. I only use this with dragons and royal concerns though. This is the ultimate gambler's method.

I have been part of both extremes, with less than 100 platinum, gold
, silver, and copper coins (<100 each) and been part of one with over 10,000,000 platinum pieces.

Emotions will soar or drop depending on the result.

@Sugashane: Totally beside the point, as he (Mattie P, the esteemed OP), looks for ways to actually have his kid roll a d10000.

I think gold is a pretty decent idea (or at lower levels copper).

Also, maybe magic item availability (Roll d10000 vs. gold price of item, modify for town Size, or allow Xd10000 for large cities)

The entire DBZ arc should best be described with a logarithmic scale.

Trivia: It's Immortals Handbook content, but you could replace "Power leveL" with "Quintessence" and DBZ would be reasonably modeled up until at least series 2.

I know. That's why it's non-terrible for explaining DBZ, where the "stick another zero on the end" approach is shared and only one character will ever contribute due to slight differences in optimzation.

Maybe stick it on a Rod of Wonder or something. This is sort of the kind of thing that I was looking for. I wonder if he wants to play an anarchic initiate or the like? Hmm.

Also, wookie-ranger, that might be more complicated for me than for him, having to make up all these modifiers on the fly, maybe a table... hmm. Thanks for the suggestions so far.
