Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
The screaming vargouille swoops over the water, quickly approaching Aria, who plants a bolt into the demon's eye. The vargouille corpse splashes into the water.
The third vargouille hisses and flies for the exit to the cave, but Zal's bolt strikes it, burying deep into the back of the creature's head. It, too, falls to the water, lifeless.
Ari makes it to the gangplank of the vargouille's ship just as the second vargouille rises off the deck. The creature glares at the warrior, but is too busy re-orientating itself after Ko's shadow command to do much else. The inside of the ship is nearly identical to the other one, empty expect for bits of garbage, much of which has apparently been gathered together under where the demons were sleeping.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
Zal stares as the bolt hits, laughing as the vargouille falls dead. Olladra's luck. he curses with a smile, he'd forgotten how good a crossbow felt in hand. Anyone tie the orc up? he asks. Sorry about the alarm. Poison doesn't always take.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
Aria stops singing, and reloads her crossbow. There's got to be more. Let's check the lower decks. I really don't want to be surrounded later.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
Taking a small everbright lantern from the Gallant's rowboat, you check under the decks of the ships. You find that the ships actually sit quite high on the water, and the lower deck could hardly be called a deck. Even Aria has to stoop over while looking around the area. No more vargouilles are discovered inside.

"Disappointing... I expected better. Ah well, I suppose it's for the best." Ari looks annoyed.

There'll be more later. Is anybody hurt?
Also looting the bodies, and inspecting the cove for anything that might prove useful, either material things or information.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
No parts missing. Be back in a moment. Got an orc to tie. he says, grinning; binding a target was a new thing to him. A knives made the situation easier. So what do with him? Let him free himself or take him back? Zal asks, grabbing a length of rope to truss up the barbarian with. He'd attempt to have its legs and arms bound behind his back.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
Aria's search of the area doesn't turn up much. The only small items of value are the equipment of the two wastelanders, hide armor, a pair of axes and crossbows, and the assortment of coins they were gambling with. Some of the coins bear the seal of Galifar or the imprint of the Aundair crown, but most are flat, vaguely round lumps of silver or copper that likely serve as currency in the Demon Wastes. You estimate it would only come to about 200 gold pieces all together.
Everything else of value is related to the operation and maintenance of the ships.
The half-orc moans a bit as you tie him up, but is remains unconscious as the poison continues to work through his body.Last edited by Mantid; 2013-03-08 at 01:30 PM.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
Ari's right. After all if we kill him just because it's the practical thing to do then we're not different than they are. She looks around at her companions, noting her bag, heavier now with the wastelanders' money, and adds Looting the soldiers is fine. Murdering prisoners is bad.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
I see says Zal. Got a way to let the half elf know we've got his new fleet? he asks when he brings the bound and gagged half orc to the pier, wheezing as he drops the body he'd struggled to carry over.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
Zal bites his lip and begins looking for a mirror or shield to reflect the sunlight at the boat. It'd be like a flare, but one that could only be seen from the water.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
You don't find anything reflective enough to signal the Gallant, however a piece of yellowed sail tied to an oar gets their attention.
"Seems you had an adventure in there," he says with a grin when he spots the half-orc prisoner. "We'll get the ships in the sea and out of the raiders' hands. I'm guessing we're taking this fellow too? Guess I can send one of our capture ships back to Aundair with him...."
The other sailors move into the cave and start to get the first ship ready to row out into open waters.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
We might need him, actually. Do you have a place to keep him secure and provisions to keep him fed? If not taking him back is probably best. She looks up at Ko and says Not to discount your abilities, but I suspect the Aundairian crown have some extremely competent wizards that can get information out of him easier than we can. It just probably won't be available to us in the field.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
If you want. he says, cleaning his daggers. A trial'll kill him; an' that can done now, quick an' tidy. he nudges the orc with his boots, checking to see if the poison has worn off. But s'all your choice, Cap. Talkin' to him might be good. Zal grins at the half-elf. An' sorry for the trouble an' thanks for the ride. It was fun.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
"Well, hopefully, we'll be your ride out of here as well," Dalton says, pulling a small crystal out of his pocket. "We'll be in the bay for the next six days. After that we're to head back to Stormhome. This crystal will let you send one message to me. Only one I have, so be careful with it."
The half-orc groans and opens his eyes a bit. He's still a bit dizzy, but the poison seems to be wearing off fast.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
Hopefully. says Zal, taking the crystal and stowing it in his belt pouch. Your guest is waking up. You'll want to bind him better than me. Sailors are pretty good at using rope on men, no? Zal adds playfully.

Is that, Aria cuts herself off, looking around and sniffing the air, her face a mixture of curiosity and disgust. Is that jealousy I smell? she playfully finishes.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
Zal flashes a toothy smile at the gnome; the bard had started t grow on him. Maybe. he says.
Zal was waiting for the ship's crew to depart to collect the rations and coins the raiders had been gambling, as well as to get water for their imminent excursion.Last edited by Gildedragon; 2013-03-09 at 04:06 PM.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
"Now, now, you have to get your sea legs before we start with the ropes," Dalton says with a grin. The captains calls two of his crew over to make sure the half-orc is securely tied.
As they finish their knots, the half-orc shakes his head and wakes. "Eh? What?" he says as he begins to realize where he is. "Arrg, what happened? Who in Khyber are you lot?" He tries to break out of the ropes, using more brute strength than any finesse to get himself loose, all to no avail.

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
Ari steps in front of the half-orc, sword drawn.
"Who we are isn't important to you right now. What's important to you right now is telling us everything we want to know. Understand?"

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
The half-orc cringes and stares at the edge of Ari's blade, pulling back as far from it as he can. "Ya got me," he says. "I ain't sayin' I'm not gonna talk... heck, I'm talkin'. I'm talkin'!"

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
Aria's voice is cold as she speaks to the half-orc, with little trace of her usual jovial expression or tone. Good. Cooperation is always for the best. What's your name?

Re: Harbingers of the Silver Flame
"K'poork," the half-orc quickly replies, only taking his eyes off of Ari's blade for a brief glance at Aria.
