    Name: Amelia Brooks
    Spoiler
    Show
Exalt Type and Caste: Fire Aspect Dragonblooded
Anima: A searing shimmer of heat haze, and clouds of steam erupting from the ground.
Motivation: Become the single most respected human in the sky.

    Backstory
Amy, or, as she prefers to be called, Brooks, has everything. Her mother is a renowned journalist, her father a decorated veteran. Many expected their child to be merely spoilt, but they were wrong.

Admittedly, they were only wrong about the ‘merely’ part.

Brooks has her mother’s and her father’s blood in her, and it shows. She is faster and more agile than many acrobats, and her writings are set to make her a fortune of her own. Many found it shocking when she spurned a chance at a leg-up into publishing, and instead used her father’s contacts to begin military training.

Her interest in the sky was born during her training, when she saw, on guard duty, one of the Dragons flying in in his transport. She was fortunate that the chance to follow up on it came soon, and it became her passion.

Her training completed, her first mission was meant to be a simple supply run, but it didn’t work out that way. The base she was on route to was under attack, but no-one had realised the attackers included a dragonblood, under the service of a rival nation. Brooks landed her plane while it was on fire took a gun, and joined the fray. While the base was heavily damaged, the attack was held back long enough for reinforcements to arrive. Brooks was invited to the Dragonblood program, and accepted in amazement.

Of course, this had been her destiny from the beginning, her parents influence earning her the necessary procedures before she was even born, but her progress in the advanced training exceeded expectations.

Brooks came out of her second stint of training with more than a touch of arrogance, and more skill than any one person should bear. Beautiful, intelligent, lightning fast, and with powers beyond that of a mortal, many were jealous of her. Few remained so on meeting her, with a sharp wit and a dazzling smile that renders most happy to take her side. A more skilled manipulator could use her contacts for the most nefarious of deeds, but Brooks has all she wants already. The life of a hero, and the attention that comes with it, and the impossible thrill of the operations she is called in on. She spends what little free time she has writing, filling the rest with constant training and socialising. She has a reputation as a seductress, another one as an academic, another one as a war-lover, and polarizes everyone who knows her into loving her or hating her. Her various contacts, friends, and lovers in the research departments have got her a veritable arsenal of experimental equipment and many who know her expect it’ll be a short few years before she starts trying to learn how to do that herself as well.

Recently, she was assigned to the incredibly prestigious Taskforce: Dragon. It comes with the gaze of the world on her back, the expectations of all for success, and the very toughest of missions.
    She loves it.

    Artifacts and Equipment
    Spoiler
    Show
    SP17-14C ‘Cloudrider’, Roaring Dragon Transport
‘Given’ to Brooks by the military as a reward for her work before her exaltation, and as equipment to make the best use of her abilities.
(Five dot artifact, described below. Attune 3m)

    EX09-2B Firestorm Gauntlet
An experimental artifact made up of an elbow length gauntlet and a bracer, this red jade and black metal gauntlet focusses ambient essence, quickening the wearer’s actions and enhancing fire elemental charms. Officially referred to as a Fire-Aspected Essence Alignment and Acceleration unit.
(Two dot artifact, two dot hearthstone. +3 to dodge pool, -1 speed to attacks, -1 to mote cost of Elemental fire charms, +4m per hour, Attune 4m)

    EB04-A9X Golden Dragonscale Tactical Vest
Provided as military equipment, this orichalcum vest is threaded through with strands of jade that make it far easier to attune for a Dragonblooded.
(Two dot artifact with one dot artifact, 6L/6B soak(+5 against bullets), Hardness three, Attune 3m)

    EX17-1A Storm Jewell
A glittering, almost clear jewell on a necklace of jade links, the Storm Jewell was meant to cause hurricanes at will. Sadly, it can produce only slight breezes. Production was not authorised after the prototype, which Brooks received due to her many contacts. Official Designation is an Air Aligned Occult Weather Weaponisation System.
(Two dot hearthstone, one dot artifact. Slight control over breezes, emotional drama winds, Wits+Larceny for showing off. Attune 1m, +5m per hour.)

    EX14-2C Audient Brush
A long brush of white and silver, this brush is capable of taking dictations. Designed for use in meetings to save someone taking notes, Amelia got hold of one of the late stage prototypes, and uses it to dictate her writing. Recently reclassified into MA14.
(Two dot artifact. Produces own ink, takes dictation. 3m use per scene.)

    EXX7-1C Barrier Sands
This satchel of silver grains reacts forcefully when it is poured in a line on the ground, forming a wall of grey glass that blocks passage. If someone is struck by the forming wall, they regret it. Brooks acquired this from a researcher trying to get on her good side. He succeeded.
(One dot artifact. Up to ten yards long, six inches wide, three yards tall. 12L/18B soak, 40/80 HLs (damaged/destroyed). If someone caught by the forming, Wits+MA attack for 16B/4 damage.)

    EX16-1A Alluring Ring
A band of red jade, this artifact was designed to greatly magnify the sex appeal of the owner. Intended for use by infiltrators and diplomats, the ring wasn’t as effective as hoped. Further enhancement and development is necessary. Rumour has it, the prototype was given to Brooks because, in the researcher’s words, ‘She knows how to manipulate us all anyway.’
(Two dot hearthstone. +1 bonus to App rolls, or +3 on seduction. +4m per hour)

    EB17—S3F Whirling Blade ‘Guardian Tempest’
One of the more common exotic weapons available, this Chain Daiklaive is forged primarily of moonsilver, cored with enough Jade to transfer Brook’s essence effectively. It is used for defence, an exalted’s reflexes being fast enough to bisect a bullet with the swinging blade.
(Two dot artifact with one dot artifact. 4m attune.)

    Hothead’s Jink Mastery
Cost: +2m, Mins: Dodge 5, Essence 3 Type: Permanent
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Permanent
    Prerequisite Charms: Any Dodge Excellency

The character is so in tune with the vehicles that she pilots, she can move them as if they were her own body. She may use her dodge charms while piloting any aerial vehicle, as long as its Manoeuvrability is at least +2. Her Dodge DV is calculated using her Sail and her Dodge, but her Dodge is capped by the vehicles Manoeuvrability. Any Dodge charms (other than, obviously, this one) with higher prerequisites than her Sail will not function. Any charm used in this way also has a 2m surcharge.

Alternate versions of this charm exist for Drive and Ride based vehicles, as well as one for Space-based vehicles.

    Soaring Phoenix Recovery
Cost: (+4m), Mins: Athletics 5, Essence 4, Type: Permanent
    Keywords: Obvious
    Duration: Permanent
Prerequisite Charms: Dancing Ember Stride, Hothead’s Jink Mastery (Aerial)

The character is well accustomed to the air, and they know it well, drawing on their insight into aerial vehicles to improve their own skills. While using Dancing Ember Stride, they gain the following benefits.
The maximum distance they can move from a solid object is increased to [Essence+Athletics]x5, and the penalty on aerial actions is reduced by one (to -1). In addition, they may utilise Incense Smoke Ladder while flying to treat water and other liquids as a solid object, although their penalty is instead increased by one (to -3), and their speed is halved.
Finally, they may use Dancing Ember Stride to avoid injury when falling from a great height, such as when their aeroplane is destroyed. Doing so costs four motes, and allows them to land on their feet, unharmed by the fall, regardless of distance. This is a reflexive charm use. If they desire, they may also spend the normal cost of the charm, in which case they may level out and begin to fly as soon as they come into the appropriate range from a solid object after their fall begins.

An Essence 5 repurchase of this charm allows the character to fly regardless of the distance from a solid object, and negates the penalty for doing so entirely. Using this ability adds a 1 willpower surcharge to the activation.
If this cost is not paid, the charm still negates the penalties on their actions due to being in the air, but does not increase their maximum distance from a solid object.

    Artifact ●●●●●
    ‘Roaring Dragon’ Advanced Aircraft

The Roaring Dragon resembles nothing quite so much as a helicopter, but calling it such isn’t really true. With a low, sloping nose, two ‘wings’ containing powerful rotor blades, and seamless jade struts, it has the profile of a transport helicopter, although the powerful jets mounted at the rear imply otherwise.

A narrow cockpit contains just a little more than enough room for the pilot, and behind that a small station opposite the Dragon’s door for a gunner. While the front half is small and crowded, due to complex magitech and machinery, the midsection of the craft is larger. The transport section has several seats, enough to seat up to eight passengers, but could be refitted to transport goods or supplies.

All Roaring Dragons are equipped with a single Grand Shellcaster, generally constructed of mixed Jades. Some are equipped with more or heavier weapons, and some are refitted as warships, but additional weapons must be purchased separately. These weapons are controlled by the gunner. While no commitment is necessary, the gunner must be an essence user.

A Roaring Dragon’s main strength is in its amazing agility. With a skilled pilot, the moving rotors can be used to dodge almost like a living thing. Few vehicles have anything like its manoeuvrability, and none exist in the public sector. Roaring Dragons exist only in the hands of exalted military. Generally, due to the attunement necessary to get the best use of a Dragon, a Roaring Dragon is given into the care of its pilot, but a pilot who believed this meant it belonged to them would be rapidly reminded otherwise. This attunement cost is only 3m, but a 5m commitment is necessary to use the vehicle at its full capacity.

    Repair: 4 or 5?
Speed: 100/200mph, or 140/280mph when committed
Manoeuvrability: +2S, +4S when committed (Lore 1, Lore 3 to use committed motes functions)
Endurance: Without magic, a Roaring Dragon has the fuel for approximately 800 miles of travel, but it uses this fuel at half the rate while motes are committed.
Crew: 1/1 (As well as one gunner)
    Armor: 12L/18B
    Health Levels: Ux6/Mx8/Cx6/Ix4/D
Weapons: 1xGrand Shellcaster OR as purchased

    Hearthstone ●●
    Elemental Lodestone (Any Elemental)
An Elemental Lodestone is a hearthstone that, while it possesses no spectacular powers, is attuned wonderfully to the nature of one particular element. It is mainly of use to the Dragonblooded.
An Elemental Lodestone reduces the mote cost of any charm with the Elemental keyword by one, as long as the element used is the one that applies to the Lodestone. If a charm costs only a single mote, this hearthstone allows it to be used freely.

Default Re: [Exalted] Taskforce: Dragon OoC

Very happy to be here! Claiming Indigo for Morgan, if that's okay with everyone.

Maugan, due to consolidating my Connections, I have a background point free. Can I apply Command to non-military minions (extras), as in students? (I'm happy to use Followers as well, if that would be better.) The idea would be that I can ask them to research a question while I'm busy doing other stuff, and then call them up for answers later (with the usual caveats that they're students and while they probably have good Int/Lore/Occult pools, they won't be as good at this kind of thing as Morgan - just they may have more time on their hands).

Alternatively - in her backstory at present Morgan has a Mystery Sidereal Sifu who is not represented in any background dots at present, because she's seen him about three times in the past five years (and under different disguises each time, so she's not even sure it's him, although she has her suspicions) - she has no idea how to contact him, no idea if he's still alive or not, she doesn't even know his real name. Given those circumstances I didn't think paying for Ally/Mentor/Sifu was appropriate, but I'm happy to throw a dot of Ally or Sifu at it if that would make more sense and/or guarantee that I have a source for the last few Crane charms (he's more powerful than a normal starting-character's Ally, and I'm imagining he knows more styles than Crane, but it's compensated by the fact that he's never around). Thoughts?

Note: I have included relevant mini-vignettes and expanded information in spoilerblocks.
    Spoiler

Morgan is Fellaran by birth; she grew up in Gethamane, the only child of two researchers at the Magadon Corporation. After high school, she moved to Whitewall to attend university; she majored in motics, with a minor in ancient history. Upon completing her degree she applied to the Heptagram for graduate studies, and was accepted into the motics research program.

    Spoiler
    Show
Her parents were both biotech researchers at Magadon; they met at work, when they were both fairly junior, idealistic, and excited about the work they were doing. As time went on they both did well in their careers, moving up to manage research groups; unfortunately, when they decided they were ready to have a child in their mid-thirties, they experienced considerable difficulty. They went to the Magadon in-house clinic on the recommendation of a friend - also because there was a significant employee discount, and a researcher's salary is not all that - and were successful on their first attempt.

    OOC note:
    Spoiler
    Show
I leave it to Maugan whether the doctor who infused the embryo with cells from the imprisoned Dragon of Air did so by accident (confusing the IVF embryo with one for an experiment), with authorization from the Infernals, as a personal experiment, or in an attempt to do a favor for colleagues. In any case, it was done, and the Infernals became aware of it in fairly short order, if they were not aware to begin with.

Over the years, her parents began to get hints as to what lay behind the front at Magadon. With a child to take care of - a child who seemed more affected than most by the dreams of Gethamane, a child they suspected might have been subjected to mysterious and less-than-ethical experiments - they tried very hard not to show any sign of disaffection.

Their daughter was largely oblivious to this, growing up: as far as she knows her parents have always been a little distant, a little tense, a little overprotective and prone to anxiety, it's just the way they are. Morgan wasn't always happy growing up - she was a brilliant child and rather isolated, and she learned early not to talk in detail about her dreams - but she was always close to her parents.

In part because of the so-vivid dreams and nightmares (voices shouting at her from all directions, a hundred screams in a discordant minor key; a whirlwind of air and darkness, no solidity anywhere to be found; a maw of white fangs opening to engulf her) she developed an interest in the occult as a teenager. She read a great deal of fantasy and historical fiction, and as much as she could find about spirits and the ancient wars. She joined the local historical re-enactment club, and developed something of a fascination for old-fashioned hobbies - calligraphy, formal poetry, classical music and dancing. She dabbled in sewing and dressmaking but eventually decided that while archaic styles could be lovely to wear, she was not the person to design or sew them.

Her parents had put her in unarmed self-defense classes when she was five, but it wasn't until she moved to Whitewall for university that she joined the university fencing club, as well as several of the martial arts societies. She became something of an aficionado and collector of traditional swords, although she didn't fight with them, they were mostly ornamental.

Her interests were primarily on the mathematical and theoretical side, rather than practical applications, but after her first major breakthrough, she became involved in an interdisciplinary project with some members of Dr. Igier's lab. Their goal was to apply new mathematical developments in motic theory to a more efficient and complete catalysis of Dragon-Blooded Exaltation. During the course of this project she met several Dragon-Blooded, and candidates at the final stage of their training; one of them persuaded her to take the initial tests for entry to the program herself.

It had been a long day. The morning had been a frantic scramble to get everything ready for the project meeting, and not made any easier by David constantly leaning over her shoulder to ask how it was going. He was applying for tenure-track jobs this year, and fixated on publications and getting a recommendation letter from Dr. Igier - she understood, but that didn't make it any less stressful.

She'd barely been able to eat at lunch. And then at the meeting, it hadn't just been Professor Qian and David and Dr. Igier's theory postdoc Colin, like she'd been expecting - it had been all of them plus Lilian, who was Dr. Igier's senior postdoc and current golden girl, plus two of the Dragon-Blooded.

David had stood up and started presenting her results (and she'd felt a little twinge of resentment at that, when he didn't mention that they were her results). She'd felt sure that the Dragon-Blooded were staring at her, wondering what someone without a 'Doctor' in front of her name was doing in this illustrious company.

And then Lilian had asked a question, and David had stopped, and sputtered, and gone back a slide to point at her equation, and Lilian had asked another question, and it had all started to fall apart...

And so she'd stood up, and hastily answered the question, and been about to sit down again when the Fire Aspect had drawled,
"But that seems to contradict Valari's Theorem."

"Valari's Theorem requires the second conservation axiom, which is weakly violated in this kind of process," she'd snapped back, bristling a little. She'd promptly regretted her tone; she hadn't meant to sound like that, but she'd spent so long making sure that this was all correct.

"But why? I agree with Dan. You should have a term from -" Lilian's voice had been quiet, but her voice had been calm as she went to the board and sketched a diagram. "From this process."

"If you th- think about it in Arillic gauge," Morgan had tried to explain, stuttering a little in her nervousness, "then you can see why that term cancels..."

"But you should be able to see it in any gauge. And I don't see what term could possibly cancel this one, working in standard gauge."

"It looks like a paradox," the Air Aspect had said with a frown. "I suspect you've botched the conversion."

Morgan had felt her cheeks reddening. Cursed pale Northern skin, it was always immediately obvious when she was embarrassed or angry.

"Sit down, Morgan," David had said, sounding excruciatingly embarrassed. "Maybe we should go over this more carefully." The glare he'd given her had promised excoriation once they got back to the lab.

She'd taken a deep breath, and focused on Lilian and the two Dragon-Bloods. "No, sir, I haven't. In standard gauge..." She'd turned to look at the diagram, buying time, frantically doing the conversion in her head. She'd done the entire calculation in the Arillic formalism, because it was better for this problem, it made the cancellations obvious. Unfortunately that meant that recovering the separate standard-gauge diagrams was... difficult. Right. But starting again...

She'd forced her voice to calm, as she sketched diagrams on the blackboard. "It's these three diagrams."

"Those don't look like they're the same order as your original piece," Professor Qian had interjected, frowning.

"Right - but they have a cyclic relationship that kills the subdominant terms, and the residual piece picks up an enhancement from this propagator - once you take that into account you'll see it's the same order as the other diagram."

She'd stepped back from the board, breathing hard, as the two Dragon-Bloods had stared at what she'd drawn, and Lilian had pulled out a notepad and done some quick calculations.

"... she's correct." Lilian had taken a long breath. "So this is an existence proof of Valari non-conservation? Thank you, Professor Qian, for inviting us to this meeting."

After that the discussion had quickly turned to applications, and Morgan had slunk back to her chair and tried to fade into the background. She'd listened and tried to remember every word, though. Engineering, genetic or otherwise, was not her domain - but seeing the Dragon-Blooded, it was impossible not to be fascinated by the research that had made them possible. What would it be like, to be able to manipulate Essence directly like that? She'd considered applying for one of the enlightenment programs, but the reputable ones had huge waiting lists and tended to be expensive, and the non-reputable ones were nothing more than cults...

And now the meeting had broken up, and she got to her feet with everyone else, tentatively pleased with how it had gone. David was going to be furious with her for making him look like a fool, but Professor Qian had given her an approving nod - and David would be gone from the group within the year, anyway.

"Excuse me, Miss... Uqalik, was it? Would you stay for a moment?"

The Fire Aspect was leaning on the side of the door, watching her.

"Uh. Of course." There had been introductions at the beginning of the meeting, but with all the stress, they'd completely flown out of her head... "I'm sorry, sir, can you remind me of your name?"

He closed the door behind the others. "I'm Dan Sokano." He held out his hand to her; she shook it. "That was pretty impressive, back there."

"Thank you. It really is much easier to see in Arillic, though."

He smiled faintly. "I'm sure. Nobody else had previously, though. Look, have a seat. Can I get you something to drink?"

"Oh, the coffee machine's broken, sorry. Has been for ages. Everyone complains about it."

The Fire Aspect laughed, poured a mug of water, and closed his eyes for a moment, before steam rose from the mug. "Coffee or tea?"

Morgan stared for a moment. "... tea, please."

He handed her the mug, and sat down across from her at the table.

"Not that I'm complaining about your current work, if this is what it produces, but... have you ever thought about taking the aptitude tests for the Dragon-Blooded program yourself?"

Morgan froze, mug halfway to her mouth. "I'm not even Meruvian!"

"But if you're like everyone in Dr. Igier's group, you want to stay here, right? If you pass the tests they'll want to recruit you; it's not like Fellara's the kind of country that causes security people to frown meaningfully." He smiled. "And if you wanted to bypass all the usual visa issues, or bring family here... it'd do that, certainly."

A gulp of tea - which she promptly regretted, as she scalded her mouth. "I... no, I haven't thought about it." The Dragon-Blooded were soldiers. What would her parents think?

But to be like them, to perceive Essence directly, to understand... what could she do with that? What couldn't she do?

"Just take the initial tests. No obligation there, right? And then you'll know if it's an option for you." The Fire Aspect shrugged, and grinned disarmingly. "Anyway, I don't mean to give you the hard sell. It's up to you. So tell me a bit more about yourself...?"

    -----------------------------

Somewhat later, whispered across the wind:

"I attended the meeting as you asked, sir. The girl was... quite impressive."

    "Did you make the offer?"

"I made the suggestion. She seemed hesitant, but I suspect she'll come around."

"Good. Thank you for your service, Agent Sokano."

Minutes later, on a highly secured international line:

"The contact's been made. We'll keep her under observation while we follow up."

    "And the parents?"

"There are some reasons to be suspicious of what they know - but they've never acted on it, and to our best knowledge they're not aware of her origins."

"Still. If they're a security risk..."

"If they know enough to be dangerous, then they're smart enough to realize that attempts at whistle-blowing would not go well for them. And once we have the daughter under control, that's an additional lever."

"Understood. You don't think they'll talk to her?"

"I'll make sure they realize that would be a bad idea." A pause. "They've served well in Magadon, and they'll be dead in a few decades anyway. No reason to make the girl suspicious by eliminating them. She has potential; it would be a pity to waste her."

"I've seen her test scores. I will defer to your judgement on this."

"Well enough, then. Now about that matter you raised at the Althing..."

After her Exaltation she was initially stationed at one of the Meruvian bases in the far North, since she was familiar with Fellaran culture and her parents were still living in Gethamane. She worked in the IT countermeasures group there, identifying spirits who'd entered the network or power supply and developing defenses against them; she also went along on several strikes against spirits (and sometimes, secret negotiations with them), as a communications specialist.

She'd gone through basic training, as every Dragon-Blood did, but she'd never expected to be a front-line soldier. She'd been a black-belt in several martial arts before she started university - her parents had had her in self-defense classes since she was a toddler - but she'd always regarded that as a hobby, a form of exercise and mental relaxation that kept her centered in the pressure-cooker of university and graduate school and the Dragon-Blooded training regime. But her superiors had been watching the amount of time she spent in the dojo, and one day she woke up in the middle of the northern wilderness, watched by a man who introduced himself only as "Fisher".

The next few months were an experience of privation and "training" that bordered on torture, far beyond anything she'd gone through before. She survived, but there were several very close calls. But it wasn't futile: slowly, surely, she began to be able to see the unseen, to touch the intangible, to drive her Exaltation beyond the limits of its design.

On the day that she mastered the Crane Form, Fisher hugged her - much to her surprise, and slight embarrassment. The next day he was gone. Resting in the snow beside her were a pair of blue jade bracers - and studying them more carefully, she saw that they were thinly carved strips, inscribed in Old Realm with letters of starmetal.

With her new capabilities, she began taking a more active role in strikes against the northern spirits; she was familiar with their nature and their favored tactics, and had developed defenses against their trickery. She even went on a few missions that skirted into the Wyld beyond the Pole.

She could have stayed there indefinitely; her work was challenging and important, even if not what she'd once expected to do with her life, and she liked the far North, cold and winds and all. (And the spirits she encountered - said interesting things, sometimes. Whispered stories into the Net, of times long ago. Lies, surely, but... interesting lies.) But then five years ago, when she was on leave visiting her family, the shadowlands opened.

As an expert in combating supernatural threats, she was called back to Meruvia. Her superiors wanted her to resume her work on motic theory, this time incorporating the study of the mysterious deathknights, and the powers and technology they had employed. She asked for, and got, permission for her parents to immigrate to Meruvia and settle in Versino, with visiting appointments at the Heptagram as researchers in genetics, as well as a tenured position for herself at the Heptagram with ample research funds. Her mother's health had been deteriorating ever since the new Gethamane reactor opened, and she wanted them nearby.

For the last five years most of her time has been taken up with research and teaching. In collaboration with Dr. Igier's research group, she has identified particular forms of Essence manipulation that work well against the deathknights, for inclusion into the Dragon-Blooded training curriculum, and is developing some tentative theories as to how and why they work. (Igier says it's like an immune response, but she has her doubts, although they're still unvoiced.)

She's also been a leader in the development of online teaching methods, and is well-known as the author of two prominent science blogs, one aimed at researchers in the field and the other at the general public. Some of her superiors might have preferred that she spend less time on outreach and teaching and more time on research, but they were quietly overruled by those who saw the potential advantages for propaganda, indoctrination and recruitment.

Morgan is a recent recruit to Task Force: Dragon, selected for her expertise in dealing with supernatural threats, her skill in Crane Style, and her experience in coordinating small teams. She accepted willingly: she enjoys her work as a researcher and professor, but was a little worried about losing the edge of her other skills. She's always practiced regularly in the Heptagram dojo, but only on a handful of occasions in the last five years has she really felt stretched.

    Spoiler
    Show
The first time she was surprised, when the woman with the forgettable face came into the dojo at one in the morning; she'd reserved this time precisely because nobody else wanted it then. She'd been more surprised when the woman asked to spar, and then stunned by her blurring speed. She hadn't felt so outmatched since meeting Fisher.

They sparred for ten minutes, and then the woman bowed to her, and left without a word. And over the next few days she realized that something had changed, that somehow in that brief session she'd learned something new, without even realizing it.

It's happened three other times. Always a forgettable face, always just a few minutes of sparring. And afterwards, the world changes, just a little.

Of course she's curious. But her attempts to find Fisher online (after doing her best to hide her searches from anyone else who might be looking) have always failed.

She's taking a sabbatical from the university this semester to work with the Task Force, although she remains in touch with her graduate students via email, and tries to update her blogs regularly. She has responsibilities - but she's eager to get out in the field again.

    Personality Traits And Quirks:
    Spoiler
    Show
Morgan cultivates an image as an eccentric professor; she finds it dissuades people from talking to her unless they have something important to say or are otherwise properly motivated, which suits her just fine.

In her field jeans and T-shirts are the most common garb, but when lecturing she tends to wear beautiful but rather formal clothing, of a kind that would have fitted in just fine in an upper-class setting a century ago, but seems more out-of-place in a modern research lab. She insists that her students gain at least a working proficiency in Old Realm, much to the horror of most of them ("We came to the Heptagram to study motics, not ancient languages!") She has a collection of heirloom swords at home, and practices katas in the Heptagram dojo for hours every night. She's an adept programmer and entirely comfortable with modern technology in her professional life, but when it comes to the personal sphere, she aggressively cultivates antique customs and etiquette ("The most old-fashioned person I know under eighty, much less forty", in one of her student's words.)

Some of her colleagues suspect that this is a reaction to her own technologically-augmented nature, but mostly it's just a personal quirk. (Although not entirely; she does feel it's important to remember what's past, and where she came from.) Similarly, she has much less disdain for thaumaturgy than most of her colleagues, although she still doesn't suffer fools who come to her thinking they've discovered a General Theory of Motics. In part this comes from time spent in the North where technology often fails, and a general sense that many researchers in her field overemphasize the power of technology at the expense of understanding Essence.

    Appearance:
    Spoiler
    Show
Morgan is of average height and build for a Northern woman, of unexceptional appearance. The immediate impression most people get is of faintly freckled pale skin, broad cheekbones, and bright brown eyes - and that's usually where they stop, because those eyes fix you with a piercing gaze that seems to demand Whatever you're about to say had better be interesting. Her hair was once black, but as a side-effect of the treatments that catalyzed her Exaltation, is now a silvery white.

    Spoiler
    Show
Morgan is well known in her field, although not as much as she would have been without her long stint in the North. She has contacts in both Meruvia and Fellara; non-classified research is very international these days, and she travels between the two nations on a regular basis (and less frequently, to Coral and An-Teng). She is familiar with most of the active researchers working on topics of greatest interest to her, and has some old contacts from her days as a student.

    Major Contacts:
    Dr. Lucien Igier
    Spoiler
    Show
Morgan knows Igier from her time at the Heptagram, and is more than a little in awe of him, although unlike many others she doesn't believe he's always right. Their interests and approaches are somewhat different - she's much more a pure theorist, whereas he's more of an engineer - but he's put her in touch with a lot of her collaborators.

    Vanileth
    Spoiler
    Show
During her undergraduate studies in Whitewall, Morgan spent a summer interning at a local engineering firm. The experience convinced her that she didn't want to be an engineer, but she did become quite well acquainted with the brilliant, reclusive genius named Vanileth, who most of the other trainees avoided. She didn't have his skill for making things, but she could chat with him about the principles behind what he was doing - well, up to a point, anyway, he always managed to completely lose her eventually. Certain throwaway remarks of his - error is a surer route to truth than indecision, develop your intuition and then trust it - still guide her.

She keeps in touch with him by email, and visits him when she goes to Whitewall. She's recommended his firm to her more practically-minded colleagues, and shared information with him on recent theoretical developments. In recent years, she's come to have some distinct suspicions about his nature, but she hasn't mentioned them to anyone.

Samantha Kano, Magadon Senior Staff Scientist
    Spoiler
    Show
Back in high school, Samantha and Morgan were best friends (to be honest, for a long time they were each others' only friends). They were the ones who signed up for every competition and extension class in math and the sciences, who put their heads together in class to whisper scornfully about methods to solve the problem on the board in two lines rather than half a page, until the teacher separated them.

They moved in lockstep until they finished university in Whitewall together, when Morgan went to graduate school in Versino, and Samantha chose to take a job in industry at Magadon. She's now a senior researcher and project manager there - and unknown to Morgan, also a recently Exalted Defiler, elevated by the Althing for her work on demonically empowered variants of the Dragon-Blooded.

After her Exaltation a few years ago she reached out to Morgan, seeking to resume their friendship and to collaborate on research. They have been exploring applications of the theory of motic entanglement, an esoteric principle that allows two entities to be metaphysically linked. (Morgan thinks the possible applications are things like helping people with disabilities or speeding up learning. The Infernals have some other ideas...)

    Connections ● (Northern Spirit Courts)
    Spoiler
    Show
In her years in the North, most of Morgan's interactions with the spirit courts were - understandably - rather hostile. But sometimes there were quiet negotiations, temporary truces, and respect earned from battles physical or electronic. Especially when working on her own or in a small team, Morgan's philosophy has always been to do what works.

    Karathtani
    Spoiler
    Show
Morgan first encountered this particular Cloud Person when kicking her out of the base computer network. Karathtani, unusually, didn't take the hint, and struck back. The resulting flurry of attacks and countermeasures kept Morgan up for several days, before the Cloud Person finally withdrew, leaving a concealed message for Morgan hidden in one of the computers she'd infiltrated.

That message led to a quiet meeting in the far north - nothing was agreed that first time, it was just to open lines of communication. Karathtani has occasionally warned Morgan of upcoming attacks, when it suits her political purposes to do so (e.g. when she wishes to sabotage a rival's stratagem); Morgan, after getting permission from her superiors, has occasionally arranged deals with Karathtani to provide aid against the Wyld in exchange for information or goods, or similar quid-pro-quo arrangements.

Karathtani is a politician and diplomat. Her true motivations and the extent of her alliances are unknown.

    Artifacts and Equipment:

Jade Perfected Kata Bracers, Fisher's Gift (Oadenol's Codex)
    Spoiler
    Show
Coils of pale jade, inlaid with sutras written in Old Realm in letters of starmetal, twine around Morgan's forearms. On her left arm is the first half of the Scripture of the Sword; the right bracer completes it.

This was a gift from her teacher in Crane Style, the day that he disappeared from her life.

Skin Mount Amulet, Implanted Augmentation Socket (Wonders of the Lost Age)
    Spoiler
    Show
Samantha Kano persuaded Morgan to have this socket implanted so she could more easily test out the new developments they've been working on; she claimed it was a standard modification at Magadon. It sits in the back of Morgan's neck, hidden by her hair.

    Jade Hearthstone Bracers, Lightning Bands
    Spoiler
    Show
These smoothly curved blue jade bracers, carved to evoke wind, lock around Morgan's upper arms. They harmonize with the Air Essence in her nervous system to enhance her reflexes. Along with the matching blue jade anklets, they were a gift upon her successful graduation from the Dragon-Blooded training program.

Jade Discreet Essence Armor, Personal Ablative Shield Generator (Wonders of the Lost Age)
    Spoiler
    Show
These delicate blue jade anklets can be used to generate, at will, a visible field of Essence that slows blows made against the Exalt. Along with the matching blue jade bracers, they were a gift upon her successful graduation from the Dragon-Blooded training program.

Green Jade Hook Daiklave, Spring's Kiss (Scroll of the Monk + Oadenol's Codex)
    Spoiler
    Show
This elegantly curved sword is forged largely from green jade, with a thin stripe of blue jade curling around to form the hilt. Morgan obtained it before her Exaltation, in a rather seedy market from a vendor who didn't realize what he had - she still had to clean out her bank account to afford it, but once she removed the ridiculously ornate metal hilt that some idiot had attempted to graft onto it after its forging, and cleaned away the dirt, it was so very worth it. She could barely lift it, and using it as a weapon was obviously out of the question, but it so obviously had a rich history behind it.

Once she Exalted, and realized that she could harmonize her Essence with the jade - that was a wonderful moment.

Shadow Hook Daiklave, Winter's Breath (Scroll of the Monk + MoEP: Infernals)
    Spoiler
    Show
This unusually slender hook daiklave appears to be forged of black iron, and the air around it always feels slightly chilled. In shadow, it takes on a life of its own, lashing out like a snake and seeming to react on its own to others' attempts to block it or get past it. The engineer who presented it to Morgan told her that it has a film of motion sensors along its inner edge, but unfortunately any exposure to light causes the response time to lengthen to the point that they're not useful. When they are in effect, though, the effect is impressive - and intimidating.

    Dragonfly's Ranging Eye, Light-Warping Lens (Oadenol's Codex)
    Spoiler
    Show
This small faceted lens allows Morgan to look around corners and through walls. She commissioned it with her startup money from the Heptagram, as a research tool; she has primarily employed it for studying complicated artifacts from the inside, so that she doesn't risk destroying them (or blowing up her lab) by having her students try to disassemble them.

    Hearthstones
Against-The-Flame Pearl, Motonic Entanglement Instantiator (Broken-Winged Crane, Kimberian hearthstone) - socketed in Skin Mount Amulet
    Spoiler
    Show
In the North, Morgan learned a healthy respect for spirits, and the many tricks they have up their sleeves. In the past few years, her research on motonic entanglement with Samantha Kano has yielded this encouraging preliminary result.

Outwardly, the Instantiator appears as a smooth iridescent egg, but this appearance is deceiving given the intricate - and only half-real - electronics contained within. Its basic function is to form a partial entanglement link between the bearer and another being, granting the bearer the ability to match their partner's modes of movement. Flight, the leaping of a raksha through the Wyld, the way an elemental of Earth may flow through the ground - any can be emulated, as a shadowy image of the target surrounds the bearer and carries her where she desires to go.

However, the activation process remains the key weakness of this otherwise promising technology. In principle, the entanglement should only require action, or even strong emotion, directed by the bearer at the target, in order to initialize the link - in practice, only a direct physical attack seems sufficient to provide a reliable trigger. Furthermore, the attuned bearer must immediately consolidate the link from their end with an effort of will.

Morgan is currently testing this device in the field.

Precision Of Form Gemstone, Essence Flow Facilitator (Oadenol's Codex, Sidereal hearthstone) - socketed in Discreet Essence Armor
    Spoiler
    Show
Another miniaturized motonic device, this one was issued to Morgan during her service in the North. When she fights in the precise patterns of Crane Style, the device can recapture expended motes and reroute them into her system - or that's what she thinks it's doing. She could give it to an experimentalist or engineer to take a look, but she doesn't want to risk not getting it back.

Gemstone of Shadows, Personal Concealment System (Oadenol's Codex, Ebon Dragon hearthstone) - socketed in Hearthstone Bracers
    Spoiler
    Show
This small black oval was given to Morgan at the same time as her daiklave Winter's Breath. By tapping the oval, she can deflect light from the area around her, thus speeding up the reaction time on the motion sensors on her sword. Harmonizing her Essence with the oval seems to also give her the ability to see through these shadows - although she is not sure how this works. It's probably entanglement with a remote light-source; bloody engineers messing with things they don't understand again...

Ifni - You're perfectly welcome to allocate that point towards... Call it Ally, for now. I was intending to have a Sidereal crop up in this first adventure anyway, so he (she?) will do nicely...

    Spoiler
    Show
    Name: Detective Sergeant Leah Khoury
    Aspect: Water
Anima: A blue-green aura of stinging salt
Motivation: Uphold the law and protect the innocent

    Backstory
    Spoiler
    Show
Leah is a second-generation immigrant. Her parents left their home nation of Delzahn in the turmoil following the war and the nuclear strike on Chiaroscuro, hoping to find a stable life and better prospects for their children in the Blessed Realm. Leah is the second of their three children, and the first to be born in Meruvia.

Her parents settled in Tuchara, using the last of their savings to start a small restaurant specializing in their nation's cuisine. Leah grew up on the second floor above that restaurant, a tiny little bastion of tradition in a foreign city. Her upbringing was strict; her father worried about money and losing their heritage, her older brother emulated him, and her mother simply tried to keep the peace. Leah was the rebel of the family, often balking at being expected to follow customs that none of her Meruvian friends had to put up with. Nonetheless, they managed to instill a strict work ethic and a sense of family loyalty. She spent most of her high school summers working at the restaurant for a fraction of the usual salary. Upon graduating she intended to join the military, as a way to serve her country and help her family (from a distance); they were able to persuade her to join the police force instead, a compromise that kept her within visiting distance.

It proved the right choice; her loyalty, stubborn integrity, and mixture of respect for and suspicion of The Way Things Are combined to make her an excellent officer in an overworked precinct plagued by corruption. A friendly superior suggested in performance review that she consider applying for the Terrestrial training programs, and she dutifully did so, not expecting that she'd be accepted. The Dragon-Blooded were celebrities, soldiers, flashy media figures; she was just someone doing her job.

Sometimes, she wonders if undergoing the program was a mistake. Oh, she would never have gotten any farther in her career if she hadn't; too many enemies made, too many powerful people wary about letting her get near them. Being a Terrestrial opens up doors that would never be open to her otherwise, and the power is immensely when at work. But it's disconcerting as well. Giving that kind of power to a few people sits wrong with her, and she doesn't trust the corporate and government interests behind the programs. She doesn't like being treated as a soldier—or as a tool. And sometimes, lying awake at night, she feels like something terribly wrong has been done to her.

Something feels off. And she's learned over the years to trust her gut instincts.

When not busy with Taskforce: Dragon and other Terrestrial duties, Leah continues to work in Tuchara as a police sergeant. She lives in a small, frugal apartment with a hearth-cat named Bug (so called for his habit of viciously clawing anyone who tries to cuddle him). At present she is not dating anyone, and has fallen out of touch with most of her old friends from before Exaltation; it's just hard to find the time to keep up these days. She makes time to visit family at least once every couple weeks when she's in town, and sometimes meets her brother for lunch. The family restaurant is now fairly prosperous, a lynchpin of the local Delzahn community; and the swell of Nyundan refugees following that country's regime change is boosting their custom. Her older brother Jamal has gone into the family business; they're considering opening a second location for him to manage, since their father doesn't mean to retire anytime soon. Her younger sister Hannah is attending a university at Lord's Crossing.

    Biomagitech enhancement suite
Leah's body underwent considerable enhancement during her Terrestrial catalysis, far more than most. Many of the procedures used on her were experimental—unknown to her, she is something of a guinea pig for a pair of Infernal researchers. There are Dragon-Blooded who have undergone more extreme modification, but few of those are ever revealed to the public; she is an exercise in Infernal discretion rather than raw power.

A significant portion of her skeletal system has been reinforced with black jade, a substance chosen for its combination of toughness and yielding properties as well as resonance with her bloodline; the result renders her bones tougher and harder to break without suffering from the same complications (brittleness, immune reactions) that metallic bone-replacements typically present. Artificial hormone cocktails and infusions of Malfean essence have strengthened her muscles considerably, altered her immune system, and shaped her instincts to be more in accord with the desires of Infernal masters.

Even her nervous system has been tweaked: electric filaments woven into her spinal cord improve her reaction time, while a device that no mortal science could possibly explain sits at the base of the skull, rendering her memory perfect and unchanging.

Few of these enhancements are obvious to the naked eye. However, there are clues: she weighs more than someone of her height and build should, and often sets off metal detectors. Occasionally one can glimpse something black beneath her skin, particularly around the hands and other areas where bone lies only a few millimeters from skin; this is particularly pronounced when her anima flares. Lastly, magical examination will detect some of the more obvious changes, but without cutting her open to get a better look it's difficult to analyze everything.

Needless to say, invasive surgery was required for many of these procedures; Leah does not recall any of it. She is aware of some but by no means all of the changes, and it is likely that her consent was either obtained by mind-altering magic, or took place only in false memories.

Mechanically, this suite of enhancements replicates the following artifacts and hearthstones:
Green Iron Heart (+4 Strength, +4 Stamina, +2 Integrity, +1 Conviction, -1 Compassion)
Prosthetics of clockwork elegance (unarmed attacks take on the traits of black jade smashfists; Speed 5, Acc +1, Damage 6B/2, Def +4, Rate 2, Tags: M, O or Speed 7, Acc +0, Damage 4B/2, Rate 1, Def -, Rate 1, Tags: C, M, O, P)
A Skin Mount Amulet with an inset Stone of Resilient Bamboo (+6 peripheral motes, regenerate 6 motes per hour, soak lethal damage with full Stamina, regenerate one level of bashing or lethal damage per hour)
Jade Hearthstone Bracers with an inset Memory Stone (-1 Speed on all attacks, +3 Dodge, regenerate 2 motes per hour, perfect memory)
The total attunement cost is 15 motes.

    Gladestalker's stone
An experimental gun-thing designed to something something make it shoot better. Guess how much Leah's player knows about guns?
adds 3 to shellcaster's Accuracy and Damage

    Hearthstone amulet/stone of humble glory
Leah doesn't understand the theory behind this trinket, which is worked into her police badge; supposedly it resonates with her vocal chords when she speaks honestly, adding a soothing frequency to her voice. Why it should be tailored so specifically she doesn't know, but it clearly works, and she rather likes it. Somebody at R&D shares her idealistic tendencies, perhaps.
regenerate 2 motes per hour, add +4 dice to any truthful social roll; attunement 1

    Laminate dragonscale vest (jade)
A standard jade-fiber bulletproof vest, of the type typically issued to enlightened law enforcement and military personnel.
+4B/+4L soak, hardness 2B/2L, mobility 0, fatigue 0, attunement 3; +5B/5L soak against bullets, -2 damage from all environmental hazards

    Perfected kata bracers

When using a Form-type Charm, add +5 to unarmed Accuracy, Damage, Defense and 2 to rate, plus 5 to natural soak; attunement 8

    Shellcaster (red jade)
This weapon resembles a simple service pistol, of the type issued as sidearms to police officers and soldiers alike. In keeping with Leah's aesthetic preferences, it is stark and unadorned; however, the barrel and grip are both inlaid with red jade, making its magical construction fairly obvious.
    Speed 5, Acc +1, Damage 11L/2, Rate 3, Ammo 15, Range 50, attunement 5, Tags: O

    Backstory
    Spoiler
    Show
The current generation of the Rudd family was a carefully engineered experiment into the efficacy of slightly delaying the Exaltation of the Dragons. Carl and his two younger brothers, Andrew and Barrett, were all infused with the blood of the Dragons before their birth.

Born into a military family in Anvil, a town close to Versino on the Isle of Bells, Carl enlisted into the Meruvian Army right out of school. He served several tours of duty in the Versino 6th Grenadiers, until he was transferred to the newly formed Anvil 1st Commandos, a new regiment formed in the wake of a mass sign up in Anvil which included Andrew and Barrett. The regiment began a typical tour of duty, the Anvil 1st earning themselves the nickname "Hammers" for their sheer brute force on the battlefield.

Then, one day in the midst of Ascending Fire, the Anvil 1st were assigned to a routine "peacekeeping" mission in the Unified Vectes Alliance a loose affiliation of Northern oil-producing city-states that had apparently voluntarily given themselves over to spirit worship.

The Anvil 1st struck their targets hard with assistance from Dragon-Blooded operatives, rapidly taking strategic positions. The campaign was going well, when something caused the entire Vectes region to suffer a sudden onset of Wyld taint. Behind the scenes, a Lunar and Sidereal quickly worked to fix the problem. Mutation rates were blessedly low amongst the Anvil 1st, but the oil supplies were permanently rendered oddly luminescent, though still fully functional. The Hammers pushed on through the campaign, securing the Vectes oil supply with astonishingly low casualties, given the Wyld taint.

Just as the Meruvia was ready to call the campaign a success, disaster struck.

They came up from the very ground, opening sinkholes in the midst of and behind the Anvil 1st battle lines.

Darkbrood. A race of humanoid, worm-pale darkbrood, armed with firearms and utilising the other creatures of below as beasts of war, they surged up and began pushing the Hammers back. The fighting was brutal, the darkbrood utterly remorseless. Both of Carl's brothers died: Andrew took a darkbrood sniper round to the head, and Barrett was lost inside a suicide mission inside one of the brood's gargantuan burrowing worms. Several desperate strikes underground into the darkbrood tunnel network seemed to take the fight out of them, but the survivors left their tunnel network and poured out onto the surface.

And in their wake came what they had been running from.

Mutated darkbrood, altered by the Wyld-tained oil that had seeped deep through the earth, leaving them luminescent, rapidly evolving and as explosive as the substance that created them.

Hammer casualties were horrific. Eventually, they were pushed back to one single city quarter, the force's Dragon-Blooded technicians desperately trying to create a WMD to attack all of the darkbrood, mutated or not, on the genetic level.

It was here that the gift of the Dragons came on Carl. Holding the line with the rest of Epsilon Squad, recently given a promotion to sergeant he never wanted, Carl did what he could to buy the technicians time. With a surge of grey-white light around him, he started bodily throwing darkbrood back into their own ranks with grenades attached. His guns began spitting fire and lead into the enemy ranks, shredding into them viciously. Flinging taunts and insults at the enemy even as he killed them, Carl rallied the surviving Hammers, pulled back to a better position, and prepared to make the darkbrood pay dearly for each step further.

Miraculously, the technicians managed to get their doomsday weapon working.

The aftermath was not pretty. The tattered remnants of the Anvil 1st were extracted from a sea of darkbrood dust. The debriefings were quick but thorough, and it became clear to Carl that Meruvia was going to cover up the events of what they were now calling the North-4 campaign, blaming it on a spirit/Raksha alliance.

The Anvil 1st was disbanded, its veterans either transferred into counselling or other regiments, depending on how scarred they were. Carl, on the other hand, newly Exalted as he was, had to undergo an intense training period to round out and improve his military skill set. Then came the public image: the soldier's soldier, who gives no quarter and expects none, a relentless, ruthless badass. Carl detested it, but hated the cover up over North-4 even more.

With his Dragon-Blooded "initiation" complete, Carl returned to the army briefly, serving alongside various regiments until his superiors informed him of Task Force Dragon. Carl accepted on one condition: that the former members of the Anvil 1st's Epsilon Squad were returned to his command under the same designation as part of the Task Force.

Lucien help those who get in their way.

A thickset brute of a man, Carl Rudd is an exceptional physical specimen. He packs a vast amount of muscle onto his tall frame, whilst still retaining a remarkable degree of agility and athleticism.

Carl is usually dressed in a upgraded reconstruction of the standard-issue tactical vests given to the Anvil 1st during the North-4 campaign that Carl has extensively customised, painting or carving the phrases "GRUB KILLER", "DESTROY RAKSHA", "KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN" and "PRACTICE RELOADING" onto the armour's chest piece. The armour leaves his arms bare, keeping his memorial tattoo to his two brothers in plain sight.

On the rare occasions that Carl removes his helmet, it reveals his face to pale-skinned, in contrast to the moderately tanned skin across the rest of his body. His scalp is shaven, his face notably less so. His grey eyes are stark and possess an almost haunted look that rarely leaves them.

I think I'll claim DimGrey for Carl.

Say hello to your Friendly Neighborhood Sidereal, everyone. You might see him around from time to time in the future, but the chances you'll realise it are fairly slim.

Ah, Killing Words Technique is a fun charm. And this, my friends, is why investing in Integrity charms and social defenses is a good idea.

He'll need them. That said, as far as Fury of the Forsaken is concerned, converting the Taskforce to the service of Oblivion would be a bonus. There are, after all, a great many other potential converts out there, without access to Integrity charms and woefully few health levels...

They will serve the void. The only question is whether they shall do so alive.

For the record, I'm not how well Dredged Murmurs Hunch will actually work here - it can only hint at answers that exist (or at one point existed) within Creation, and I don't think an Abyssal qualifies. But it seems like it could point us towards any Creation-born accomplices, witnesses, or bits of the plan that were executed inside Creation.

(Also, if you don't have Dreams of the First Age I can PM you the Charm text.)

And it looks like we'll have to do with Epsilon's grand shellcaster and three assault rifles, plus any other guns people have.

Also, just made some alterations to the allocation of Carl's arsenal, due to a miscalculation on my part.

Hm... I have Soul-Stirring Performance Method. It's not quite the same, but I can still use it to act so hard I convince people to obey me.

Well, you do have wide discretionary powers on most of your assignments, and OMI can probably foot the bill on just about anything in terms of money or information.

The traditional answer would be 'what do you want', but that might wind up in unfortunate places...

Maugan, does this count as a new scene (post-briefing) for scene-long charms?

Also, "relatively short journey" is 10 minutes or so? (I just ask because I've been throwing Essence around pretty indiscriminately - I regenerate motes fairly quickly, but would rather not electrocute the cafe )

So yeah. Social Fu. Incidentally, if Epsilon Squad are there, they are also affected by this, and are deeply unlikely to resist.

Also, as per the rules, you only realise that Mask is using a charm there if you beat the UMI first. And even so, it's only easily identifiable as something designed to instill lust in people, possibly to give her an edge in the bargaining. A bit rude, but not really an attack (legally, anyway. Anyone who resists might be rather annoyed anyway...)

I was actually going to accept the lust intimacy anyway, cause it fits and will be fun to play out, in a train-wreck kind of way.

The loyalty, however, I'm going to pay the two willpower for.
