Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
Jesus Christ how horrifying
Eeh, I've only ever watched a few episodes of the show, so I don't know what the characters really look like there. Front one is maybe Daenerys?, other two I have no idea. I can't even tell if the left one is male of female.

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
Butthole Surfers, you know the rock band? Eh I guess they weren't very big.
You are a very bad person flyingchicken, I'm gonna have to see scary Frankenbutt as your avatar whenever I come back to this thread. Now excuse me while I go scrub my brain with some drain cleaner and steel wool.
Cleaned up my last drawing and I feel like I'm done with it now. I knew I would have a hard time getting the likenesses down for the actors on the show so I really didn't bother trying. From left to right the people in the image are; Missandei, Daenerys and "The Boss" Selmy cause he does everything like a Boss.

So, um.
I made a pony.
Specifically, a pony of Sheba from the Golden Sun games

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
"Look at the show ponies", you say.
Here's the thing: I did. I had four or five different screencaps on my references layer. That's how I was able to get the right general body shape and head shape and back leg shape and so on. But beyond that... I can see that they're non-identical. I can't see what to do to get a better match.
You know OOTS, right? Very simple style. Circles, rectangles, curved lines. It took me a bit over two years (not all of it actively drawing, I admit) to get to a point where I could consistently make OOTS-like pictures that I now consider on-model.
Pony is a much less simple style. I doubt I could quickly get where I want by simple observation.Level 4 Bibliophile/Level 3 Bard, working toward the Bibliomancer Prestige Class

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
Ponies are made from three circles. At least when I do them. Think its from a guide. Head is biggest by a decent margin. Then pony butt, that's a fair sized circle, and chest is the smallest.
In theory, neck through chest to butt should end how with a simple line, like there is a sock stretched over the two circles. I'm terrible at getting legs the right proportion, think I tend to make them far too small and slight sometimes.

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
Listen to the experts above. The shapes are sort of ok, but the proportions are a fair bit off. There are (as stated) a bunch of guides posted in the OP, they might help; as for generally getting more on model:
Spoiler-The body is too long, and as Tiki Snakes mentioned should be made more of two circles instead of an oval. That will let you see the dip in the back (as opposed to the bulge you have).
-Head is too small compared to body size, and the eye and ear are too small compared to it. Pony eyes take up like half their face, and the ear starts in the middle of the head. The head should be made with a more circular shape as well, yours seems a little elliptical.
-Eye gradient is wrong, but most people won't notice in all likelihood. Ponies also usually have two or three reflections in the eye, or they look a little weird.
-It looks like you shrunk down the front legs and stuck them on the thighs to make the back legs, they're tiny compared to the front ones. The background legs also are a little longer than the foreground ones, which suggests a somewhat bizarre viewing angle.

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
So, in keeping with the latest MLP:FiM topic title, and cephalopony plushies, and Rarity vs Giant Crab, and the talk on the first few pages of other pony societies... and Hasbro's dumb approval for a fat bearded merlion sea-king with a dumb name to be the ruler of seaponies/mermares...
(I got nothing against fat bearded merlions but why is he ruling seaponies and mermares? That's like Iron Will being Prince/King of Equestria.)
I drew "Princess Meridia", who in alicorn fashion is a mix between seaponies and mermares (based on the old MLP bathtub toys). I like line art but I'm not a good Photoshop colorist nor do I want to be one. If y'all judge my 3rd Sibling Princess to be worthy, anyone want to collaborate and color it? Whatever coloring style you want, be it flat Flash or more detailed.
Spoiler
1. My headfanon is that she's the 3rd sister princess. It mirrors the Greek gods triumverate of Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades.
2. The wing-fins extend all the way down her back in 2 rows. Inspired by lionfish.
3. The breastplate is inspired by seahorse. Inset with pearl.
4. Horseshoes use clamshell motif.
5. Design of ear-fins, ankle fins, and eyes are canon.
6. Narwhale horn. Narwhales are canon; see picture book.
7. Cutie mark is a hurricane. Space view.

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
Your lineart is sooo much better than mine.
Sorry, but couldn't resist colouring this as well. I'm interested to see what Thanqol comes up with though.
----
Day 292:
Princess Meridia. Based most of the colours off the king from those images that were posted, save the crown/breastplate which are starfish/coral/shell interior instead of his bronzen crown/horns. I think the hair could do with a bit more variation, and would've maybe like to texture the wing-fins a bit. Some more shadowing on the body too perhaps. But anyways:Time: 2hSpoiler

Been awhile since I've made an update. Just some scratchings really but for next update I've decided to focus on my lower body anatomy, legs, feet and groins etc. Then maybe clothing. Two areas I've had trouble with.

Guacamelee, heh. Sketches nice as always, though I have the strangest feeling that the elf is falling backwards (hips/CoG way farther back from legs), though that may just be the way his pants turned out because of bagginess.

Ahahah, I love it. So wonderful. Is that your OC, or Bleakbane's subordinate (or are they one and the same)? The ponies confuse me.
----
Day 309-11:
Had less time than expected due to family dropping in overnight, so ended up being three days. Reasonably satisfied with it, even though it isn't really "complete". Also fine wrinkles are damn hard, to the point where, you may see, I didn't really do any (after experimenting a bit to see if I could invent a way). It makes me think that having a duo-tone brush would be nice, even if such a thing would be impossible to control. Same with the very fine hair.Time: hour or two, 30 min, and another 30 min

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
Bleakmane the Space Vampire Unicorn Princess started out as a parody/alternate universe version of Bleakbane, but the concept mutated wildly almost right away due to the sheer level of ridiculous. She has a flying space castle full of stolen magical artifacts, a short attention span and probably a bit of a drinking problem.
