I'm not a follower of superhero comics myself, and I opened up the SFP thread not knowing that it was about superheroes. I'm really enjoying that as well as JL8, although they're very different takes on the genre.
I'm a huge fan of SFP, and just read the whole archives of this in one evening. It's tons of fun. I'd read comic books if they were like this.

Wonder Woman is my favourite character in this so far, by a long shot. She's smart, perceptive, gutsy, but she has her own issues that she benefits from talking out with friends (the "I don't want to be a princess" thing). Superman's adorable. Batman's annoying but hilarious. J'onn (probably the character I know least about, and I only know about any of them from movies and TvTropes) is great.

Thanks, and as for it being in character--I'm just glad that we probably won't have to see Hal go insane with righteous bloodlust and become Parallax.

Looks like the author handles his daily life with a lot less care than he does the DC characters.

Indeed, those 8 year old superheroes rock!

I'm wondering how this will be scored. Has Bruce already technically won? He asked Karen out, and she accepted. The moment she hops into the car it is a date. Unless Hal and the rest spot and document that they saw Bigfoot prior to Karen and Bruce leaving Karen's house, how can Bruce lose?

Other than bragging to Karen that she was one of two goals in a contest between himself and Hal, and finding himself dumped with a plate of food slammed into his chest or something... Bruce can be pretty clueless for the World's Greatest Detective from time to time.

Out of curiosity, does the level of romance these 8 year olds have ring true for other folks? They seem to be more in the 10-12 range in matters romantic, to me, but that might just be my perspective.

(Mind, I don't think this is a problem with JL8; just something I notice.)

It didn't for me, but then I didn't start noticing girls till I was 12 properly. Though I remember having a Puppy Love Crush in first grade I suppose and being totally clueless (cause 1st grader.), so, maybe I'm a bad reference point.

I'd be sorta curious to see what happens when you fast forward the timeline 4-5 years now though.

Hm. I liked a girl or two back when I was in kindergarten and... 2nd grade? 3rd grade? I suppose, but while I knew people dated when they got older I had no conception of what that really entailed beyond spending an inordinate amount of time around one another and doing ill-defined and nebulous sexual activities with one another of which kissing was the only one I was actually aware of. Of those I could see wanting to spend time with someone, since I had desires along those lines which I could understand for wanting to see friends and didn't really understand for girls who I wasn't all that close to, and wanting to get to know them better, since I also had that and was quite confused by it, but being apparently joined together at the hip was rather off-putting from what I could recall of how media and parents and guardians and teachers and [religion] had portrayed things.

Yeah, that seemed kind of weird, actually. Why was he so patronizing all of the sudden? (Not to mention stupid, really, since J'onn made a good point.)

Also, someone suggested before that maybe J'onn would shapeshift and pretend to be Bigfoot---with him off by himself now, that seems like more of a possibility.

I can see the relationship between Hal's behaviour in the last strip and his behaviour now. He wants J'onn to be his cool, unusual alien friend. He can impress his other friends by having an alien friend, and he can impress his alien friend by teaching him about Earth.

Except that doesn't work when J'onn already knows stuff about Earth, hence Hal being patronizing and dismissing his knowledge.

It's pretty clearly an analogy for treating people from other cultures as "exotic and foreign". The "aggravated" and later "face palm" looks on John Stewart's face are another indication that Hal's demonstrating a (ignorant rather than malicious, but no less offensive and aggravating for all that) form of racism. John can tell, and it's annoying him.

I believe the assumption was that the teenagers who walked past J'onn matched up with what they might have looked like at that age. Don't know much about the squad other than it had a rotating cast, though, so I can't say for sure.

I recall from the time that they brought batman back from the dead (Happened around the time Marvel was bring Steven Rogers back form the dead form killing him off in Civil War.) that there was a Justice League member named Sasquatch. Big, assumedly super strong, harry body, don't know anything else about him personally. As soon as they went looking for big foot, I had a hunch he was gonna pop up though.

Man, was this a surprise. When I saw the comic's premise was "What if the DC heroes and villains were in elementary school", I was expecting something much less...impressive. But not only does this comic nail the personalities of the characters (while appropriately scaling them back to elementary age), it presents interesting stories littered with little joke references to the characters.

This is a wonderful comic and I can't wait to see where it goes from here.
