Re: Number of Character Appearances V
Shall we look at humanoid male characters with more than ten appearances to their credit who have been effectively removed from the story?
Pompey, Samantha's dad, shadowdancer, Leeky, Bozzok, Kubota, lawyers, booted wight, Jephton, Ganonron, Enor & Gannji, Thanh, Eugene, Shojo, and possibly Ian, Geoff, Jirix, and Thog.
Characters come and go. That's just how the comic works.

Re: Number of Character Appearances V
As the curator of the last thread that covered this topic, I can safely say that if this keeps going it won't go anywhere good. We're all set in our beliefs on the matter, so perhaps we could drop it?

Re: Number of Character Appearances V
I've had a thought: shouldn't Sir Thumb from 864 count as an appearance of Rich himself? Considering it's a part of him and all.

Maybe we can count him with two appearances? What do you think?

Re: Number of Character Appearances V
In terms of bonus appearances, page 8 of the Belkar Kickstarter comic also had a mysterious arm holding a "THANKS!" sign in response to someone mentioning "crowdfunding." There's no proof that it's The Giant -- just as with Sir Thumb -- but it's obvious from context.

Re: Number of Character Appearances V
We already talked about the Sir Thumb thing. I think the consensus we reached was that since Sir Thumb is himself named, it counts as an appearance for Sir Thumb, not for Rich.

Re: Number of Character Appearances V
Technically ST and RB are different persons, just like Banjo and Elan. I think it wouldn't be a much of stretch to count both of them.
EDIT: Previous discussion about ST and RB's appearance in #146. Opinions?Last edited by martianmister; 2013-06-23 at 03:43 PM.

Re: Number of Character Appearances V
The addendum to #146 doesn't appear in the book, so as Wrecan said at the time, it's not part of the strip. I'd be inclined to leave everything as it is.

Re: Number of Character Appearances V
The OOTS Adventure Game officially calls the Kobold Oracle "Oracle of the Sunken Valley" and the zombie nurse is named Nurse Wretched.
Also, maybe we could count appearances from the rulebooks as print-only appearances?
Quick Start Rulebook
SpoilerBelkar: 8
Elan: 8
Haley: 8
Roy: 8
Vaarsuvius: 8
Durkon: 7
Stupid Ogre*: 6
Dragon from Front of the Box*: 3
Ogre Chieftain*: 2
Unremarkable Goblin*: 2
Cowardly Kobold*: 1
Nale: 1
Thor: 1
Xykon: 1
*Official names.
I'll do the Full Rulebook later, if we decide to include it.

Re: Number of Character Appearances V
The Oracle's Doctor is called "Doc of the Dead" in the game.
The quick start rulebook looks like OOTS strips. Full does not.
Also, is OOTS 887 the strip with most characters? Or is there another?

Re: Number of Character Appearances V
I haven't done an exact count, but I think 447 (and some of the other Sapphire Guardsman pages) may trump it. Looks like 40+ characters, and many (most? all?) of them had multiple appearances, and thus were eligible for inclusion in this thread.
Maybe 887 has the most named characters of any page?

The Stupid Ogre looks the same as this guy, who's already listed with 2 appearances.
The rest haven't appeared online, yeah.

Re: Number of Character Appearances V
Something comes to my min: Durkon is (currently) no longer a protagonist. Should I make him a Major character?

Re: Number of Character Appearances V
I personally wouldn't do it for a while (if ever) - it is still to early to say for sure what is happing with Durkon. (Maybe we will still follow him like Roy when he died? Or maybe he will in a few strips have his free will back?)
And in this case I would err on the side of protagonist (if only to honor Durkon).
