    How To Random Banter:
Rules of the Random Banter Thread

    Spoiler
    Show
    1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

    2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

    3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

    4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

    5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

    6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

    7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

    8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

    9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

    10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

    11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

    12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

    13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

    14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.

    15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

You ninja'd my edit! Take my nickname; I don't deserve it anymore!

(You did fine; I'd suggest adding the link to the last thread to the list too, to help out the next person that does it)

I'm not much of a dancer, but I'll twitch over here in the corner while we celebrate.

ION: I have so much homework due tomorrow (and I mean in the sense that I can't turn it in any later, not that it was actually due tomorrow... most of it was due weeks ago) that isn't getting done... I should actually start on the physics stuff.

    Bah, tomorrow.

In doing this I discovered I'd typoed in the part asking if I'd done it ok

    YUS.
I think that awesome music is always awesome, regardless of how much we grow up. In fact, it becomes even MORE awesome due to nostalgia goggles.

And I believe the Beatles thing is intentional. If it's not, I'll eat some of that polluted goo.

So, turns out I play a fairly effective utility character in a fairly low-power system with only a handful of abilities.
I don't even use my "make things up about the setting" ability. I should start using that, actually. I could have fun.

Well, yes, but... yes, okay, fine. A lot of that consists of common sense and "don't piss off people/wild animals" (regarding leadership and survival skills). Still, it's knowledge I guess a lot of people don't have. Hrm...

Well, there's only one class (English) I'll definitely get an F in if I don't turn any of my stuff in, and all of the really easy work is for that class; I can finish it in an hour or so, (especially if I only do half of it). It's an Anglicisation of Pensans - holy headland, referring to the chapel of St. Anthony's where a chapel has stood for the last thousand years. Somewhat morbidly, the town's official symbol is the head of St. John the Baptist.
Someone back in time had a very morbid sense of humour indeed.

Penzance (the end of the railway line) is roughly seventy-five miles from Plymouth. Plymouth is in the next county and the official start of Devon.
Two hours to travel seventy-five miles.

Would it be, though? It's probably common sense for you and your scout buddies, but if someone never ventured into the wilderness, he or she would probably lack the knowledge needed to build a good shelter.

Really, either you have the things with you to make a good shelter (a tarp, some sort of small rope; twine is okay, para-cord is better), or you half-ass it with sticks, trees, rocks, and any available cloth (clothing, etc.). If you can tie an overhand knot (this is for you, people that can tie their own shoes), then you can make a lean-to (admittedly, a rather poor one) out of a jacket, two decent-sized sticks, and something to lean them against.

I mean, the idea behind making a shelter is that you use what you've got; it doesn't take much skill to keep the rain off of you if you've got enough material to cover yourself. (otherwise, it's damn near impossible). I've slept in a hammock under a tarp several times (Note: do not do this in heavy wind/extreme cold; not fun.) and never got wet (even when it rained), and that's about as little shelter as you can have and have it still qualify as "shelter".

...I suppose you're right... it's just something that strikes me as obvious enough that anyone should be able to do it, even without much experience.

I agree. With proper instruction or teaching, one could easily build one. However, one must obtain the knowledge or experience in some way; it's easy to do once one knows how.

Who, as the expression goes, gives so few ****s at the start of the game that even your super-nice partner character calls him a bit of a jerk. Who, at some point, mastered Batman's interrogations skills such that Scraggy wets his pants every time he looks in his general direction. The Mystery Dungeon Pokémon games are fantastic in basically every way. If I recall, this game in particular actually shows

Two hours to travel seventy-five miles.
That's actually not as bad as you think it is. I just checked out what Bing and Google say for a journey from Penzance to Plymouth by car, and Bing said 1hr 50m while Google has 1hr 42. Not all that much faster, and from what I remember of the roads when I've been on holiday in Devon, not surprising to me either!

It's the only thing in that game that really works as a sniper rifle. I mean... The crossbow is useless at range.

    Yep.

But the whole point of the game is to find the secret doors!

    I can't believe you didn't know... I mean... It's a fairly historically significant island...

Yes, I know there is an island by that name.

Don't worry. We call it soccer here as well.

Goku, 4 power levels (super saiyan modes)... 1 anime ... meh
Al Bundy, 4 touch downs... not 1 season... 1 game ... pro.
