Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
SpoilerApparently, whatever that device is, it's powerful enough to not only have imprisoned Jeanne down there, but to have severely damaged multiple departments, including the RotD itself.
How in the heck did a robot technician guy - even one who powered his 'bots by etheric means - build such a thing???

one who powered his 'bots by etheric meansworlduniverse, known and unknown; given that Diego had already built several robots - essentially etheric AIs - it would not be impossible for him to create a weapon that messes with such. It might be very, very difficult, but he had... motivation.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
There's 2 things that we know have to happen before the comic ends. The cult of Kat has to create the TicTocs (if it hasn't already, and of course Jeanne has to be set free.
What else do we think should happen to prevent the end of this marvelous story?

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
Hard to kill a being of the ether. He'll die protecting Annie from Jeanne or something stronger.

He DOES do that well.
I wonder if Annie's perceptions of the ROTD will be different, now that she's seen behind the scenes.

Oooookay...
Annie and Mort must be really weirded out by Kat's antics at this point. That does look rather... weird.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
HAHAHAHA!!! All Kat sees is a camcorder, probably on a tripod. She has no idea why the other two are so freaked out.
The funny thing is, if she did, she probably would have already died of fright.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
I wonder if Mort's final record will be him as ghost or his real life appearance. I think the latter would make Annie and Kat more emotive than the former.

Well, that's better than what I thought would happen. I feared that instead of becoming his old self, he would just dissipate into nothingness.

The lighting in the Ether agrees with Annie.
I guess he's already starting to forget.Last edited by Giggling Ghast; 2014-05-07 at 02:06 AM.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
Hm. No cut on her face.
I wonder at this forgetting business. Why would souls being taken into the Ether start to lose their memories, and how far does it go? If this is some sort of 'soul dissolves into mindless energy' thing, that wouldn't be especially happy...

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
That seems like the probable case. As our vampire friend put it The psychopomps job is to take people into the ether and wink them out of existence. . Likely, There is a conservation of engery thing going on with the ether; the energy the ether spends to do everything it does always gets returned to it. The ether creates the human soul, so for it to keep making new souls, the old souls have to eventually come back. In a way, its not unlike what happened to Surma, which was the same thing only much more direct(Old Soul>New Soul, instead of Old Soul>Ether>New Soul). The souls of the dead dissolve into the ether so that the energy can be used to "keep the world spinning"
