Default Adventure Time II: Everybody Knows Your Name

Adventure Time is an awesome cartoon that centers around the adventures of Finn the Human and Jake the Dog. Other notable characters are Princess Bubblegum, Marceline the Vampire Queen, Ice King, Lady Rainicorn, Lumpy Space Princess, and Peppermint Butler. The side cast is extremely expansive, and most characters are surprisingly deep.

Would I watch it? Well, yes and no. Does that IFC squirrel sitcom exist, no. Would I watch it if it did, every single week, every time a new episode of it aired for all time and for the rest of forecer, yes.

I think that, all things considered, Ice King is actually near the top of the power levels in Ooo. I mean, I'm pretty sure he gave the Cosmic Owl a good blast, and he stopped a Lich-possessed PB. It's just really easy to forget. He probably takes it easy with Finn and Jake for whatever reason.

Anyway, I rather liked the episode. It's good to see Ice King get to interact with regular people instead of princesses and heros, and be decent.

Remember when Adventure Time was about Finn and Jake? Good times.

Seriously though, this episode was enjoyable. Ice King vs. Party God was a cool battle, and IK's crazy obsession with PB is good for a laugh.

Ice King's absolutely one of the strongest guys around - his crown is literally capable of freezing the world if he deploys it fully.

I believe the trick is that, because he spent so long fighting his crown's influence and desire to freeze everything, he's totally crazy and constantly forgets even the most basic of his powers. Case in point - when that storm blew up, he could have flown away. Poor guy has a lot of trouble remembering what he can and can't do.

Probably for the better honestly. Ice King isn't malicious, but he is scatterbrained and careless. Last thing you want is him remembering he can freeze the world.

Don't forget, this man is a serial kidnapper. I don't think he is quite as innocent as you describe.

We don't really need to spoiler discussions on the Ice King's morality - it's not related to the current episode.

    Anyway!

The Ice King is absolutely innocent, but he's innocent in the classical sense rather than the way we use it these days - he's unable to recognize that what he is doing is wrong, and thus incapable of changing his ways.

When he actually manages to struggle through and realize that he's hurt someone, he becomes remorseful and tries to make things right. But he doesn't stop being insane, so his attempts to fix things rarely help.

None of this means that the Ice King shouldn't be opposed, because he is still doing wrong. But it does demand a measure of sympathy; he is as much a victim as the people he hurts.

Taking parts of princesses to make his composite princess doesn't count as 'harm'? Not to mention the psychological harm of abduction and imprisonment.

Princess Bubblegum regularly kills everybody in the Candy Kingdom with her Zombie Plague (That could potentially destroy the world).

None of the princesses seemed harmed at all when he took out pieces (Cartoon logic!), and his Kidnappings are so routine there is no damage in it at all.
