Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
oh, okay, i understand (and for the record, i didn't do it to swing numbers, i just like the lower planes, and am about to do an outer-planes PF campaign, i enjoy using these contests against my (somewhat munchkin-ish) players.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
So, this is a tough call. I'm opting for "They're All Grown Up"... I've got some good ideas for the other one, but the point of this is to make the submissions over the course of a month. I like starting from scratch, and I feel like we'll get more unique and interesting submissions (although quite likely less usable ones) with fairy-tales than with hellspawn.
Also, I had a stroke of genius today at work. Instead of longevity, what if my archetype's "Soul of the Dragon" ability gave them back some of their Ki? For example, landing a series of blows on an enemy, or acquiring wealth would refresh part of his ki pool (or give him temporary ki points? is there a mechanic for that?)
Opinions? Does this sound OP in an otherwise straight-up combat based monk archetype? I figure it's at least a T3 now, with flight, mobile flurry, and better offense and defense, with less MAD problems. (sorta less MAD... lose Wis but pick up Cha. Armor and shield bonuses, plus innate nat armor and resistances means you don't need a really high dex or con.)
Would allowing him to regain up to [Cha bonus] ki points per day be too good? It would proc for 1 ki point after the landing two strikes in a row on the same opponent, but cannot proc on two consecutive hits. So, if he lands 4 attacks in a row, it would proc on the 2nd and 4th, but not the 3rd since it had proc'd on the last hit prior (the 2nd).
What if he regains ki at the start of every encounter? With a short meditation? Maybe a temporary pool of ki points equal to his Cha bonus that refreshes with a 15 minute meditation? My Homebrew and Extended Signature

My decision on having it dropped was because there were several folks who wouldn't participate if that won and because it lost a lot of momentum in subsequent voting rounds.
And even then, I flipped a coin and it came up for Fire and Brimstone.
Worry not, it'll have another shot in the future.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
And here's a run down for our last entry this month:
Pink Dragon
Spoiler
Grammar
- Nothing caught my eye; but it is just going on 7 a.m. so I'll check again later.
Comments
- I really hope you end up writing some fluff for this creature before the 31st. The fluff of a monster, especially with dragons, is just as important as any mechanics.
- Can a Pink Dragon cast spells during a Dragon Rage?
- Does a Pink Dragon only have one Rage power or does it gain a new one at each age category?
- This dragon got me curious if there was a shade of pink associated with the class bubble bath soap and I was amused to find there is a shade of pink called Shampoo.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
Yeah sorry about that. I've been REALLY busy this past week and haven't been able to do anything. I will write some fluff before the 31st.
Yes a pink dragon can cast spells while raging, and it specifically states so in the entry.
It starts with one rage power when it gets dragon rage, gets another at greater dragon rage, and gets a third at mighty dragon rage.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned how my dragons breath weapon changes when it rages.
And yes it is a serious entry

1) All Growed Up! You said children's tales. That includes the original Brothers Grimm stories
2) Don't count me out of this month's contest. I was going to drop out because of computer issues last week, but I had a sudden burst of inspiration. I still have a day and a half!Avatar by Venetian Mask. It's of an NPC from a campaign I may yet run (possibly in PbP) who became a favorite of mine while planning.

You should update the chat link in the contest thread. It still leads to the old thread.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
Update: Finished a preliminary version of my entry. It's based on the Brothers Grimm version of Cinderella, where birds bring her everything, then proceed to gouge the stepsisters' eyes out. They wound up being fairly benign on their own (except for being able to blind people), but can be particularly nasty with larger animals helping deal damage.
So yes. I present to you, the TurtledoveAvatar by Venetian Mask. It's of an NPC from a campaign I may yet run (possibly in PbP) who became a favorite of mine while planning.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
As promised, the Childhood Companion is up and roarin'!
Notes on it:
1. That's the third or fourth layout... still doesn't format right for me, but whatever.
2. Critiques and more ideas would be great!
3. You have no flipping idea how long it took to track that image back to the original owner/creator so I could give credit for it. Seriously.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
1. I'll look over the layout and see if I have any suggestions.
2. I might have to refrain from critique on this...part of it is VERY similar to my idea, though luckily in a different light. Mine and yours would play nicely, at least. I'm looking at throwing in a few monsters.
3. Giving the original owner credit does not mean you have permission to use the image. Generally from what I've seen, confirmation from the artist is needed for this. I may have something for you however. I once did an art series on the homebrew I'm making...the inspiration for it...and it might be something you'd like.Scientific Name: Wombous apocolypticus | Diet: Apocolypse Pie | Cuddly: Yes
