Waking up and suddenly appreciating the danger, Shiny springs to his feet. Glancing past Natalia at the shape she's shooting at, he raises his hand and makes a sharp twist. Above the approaching enemy there appears a burst of glitter, which falls to cover the shape.

The glitter sharply reflects even the small amount of light provided by the moon and stars, and the shape becomes clear. Natalia's fears are proved correct as the giant emerges from the darkness.

The giant barrels forward, angered by the glitter. As he approaches, they can see that he bears a single, large boulder. And from behind the giant, to the party's horror, they see three more shapes emerging from the darkness.

From the hills in the darkness behind the attackers, another boulder comes hurtling towards Natalia.

The arrow hits the giant, though not as precisely as before.

Anyone standing next to her can hear her hyperventilating, see her frantically look around. And she turns and looks at her friends, them all standing back.

And Natalia looks at the giant and sets her teeth and, still trembling, draws her blades.

The party trembles as they watch the four giants rush towards them, with a fifth hurling boulders from afar. The giants at the outpost had been so fearsome, how could they possibly take on five at once... But the outpost at Hulburg had not been guarded by the Samurai of Soshima.

"Samurai! Divide the two on the right- CHARGE!" From Natalia's left, Dresden barks out the orders in a curt tone, then begins rushing towards the giant in the lead- and the samurai follow. In a charge so fast it feels like a rushing tide, the samurai sweep past the party to take their position in the battle- and in moments a wall of soldiers separate the party from the rushing giants.

See the map for the basic positioning of the samurai. None were able to attack this round, but their intention is clear- next round they will surround G1 and G2 and start hacking away at them.

Mithril's turn now. Then we will wait for Cavelcade. He has two rounds if he wants them (not sure what he would do in the first). He can charge at G1 if he wants, though if I were him I might wait for Miriam or Shiny to enlarge him.

In general, it might be easier to run the combat if you focus on G3 and G4 while the samurai handle G1 and G2. They are more than capable of taking those two down, though they will lose a few men in the process (especially since most lack their usual heavy armor). Once G3 and G4 are down you can help.

When Kurt hears Natalia shriek, he rolls upright in an instant, looking around to see where the others are, and what's attacking. At the crash of the first boulder, his face becomes grim as he sets himself for what's to come, pausing to look at the slavers and nodding to himself.

"You three, stay close to me. You're earning your keep a little sooner than we planned, eh?"

He grins as Miriam comes up next to him, nodding to her. "Good lady Miriam - will we do as we usually do, and give them a nice target to aim at?" He slaps his unarmoured chest, laughing softly as he looks at the giants coming towards them.

I'm going to leave the slavers up to you, Admiral, unless you tell me to direct them more specifically.

Kurt is going to wait until Miriam casts her spell, and then take his next round. Buuuuut I'm going to assume she enlarges him and make the attack now. If she doesn't -well, he's going to charge anyway.

He changes from his usual stance while fighting, this one seems to pull people after him, towards his opponents. Setting himself like that, he grasps Daybreaker and charges until he's level with the leading samurai and swings hard.

I forgot to do the damage as if he's giant. Add another d6 - nothing else will change.

Into Martial Spirit - heals 2 points of damage to allies with a 30' radius on each successful melee attack I make. Doing it now so I don't forget.

His AC against giants, without armour, is 16. Pity he wasn't on watch! Although - could someone cast mage armour on him?

As Kurt gives commands to the slavers, Hilton nods and follows after him, his net held ready, although he cannot reach the giant in time to throw it and ends up standing just behind the dwarf.

Kurt also hears Karn's coarse accent from behind him- "Better duck, boss." As he crouches, a pair of arrows fly over his shoulders.

Since Kurt is actually 10 feet away from the giant (yay big combatants!) there is no penalty for firing into melee according to the rules. However, since they're right now firing directly through giant Kurt, that is ridiculous. There is a -2 penalty instead of the usual -4.

Let's be clear: the actions in this post happen in Shiny's normal place in the order, which is alongside Miriam's turn. Kurt delayed his action until after Miriam, so this happens before Kurt's charge.

And this is good news for Kurt, because...

Shiny first casts a quick spell aimed at the giant in the lead, one so fast it barely slows him down. Then, seeing that Kurt is unprotected, Shiny steps up to the dwarf and places his hand on him.

"Bad time for your armor to be in the laundry, eh?" the gnome asks with a smile.

Cast Distract Assailant on G1, mage armor on Kurt.

Shiny was always going to cast Distract Assailant to debuff G1 (-2 to Attack and AC), since a whole bunch of samurai are about to swarm him. The good news is that this means between the -2 to AC and the +1 from Haste, Kurt hits!

(You need to trust I was going to cast Distract Assailant either way).

Shiny has more powerful offensive options, but G1 isn't the proper opponent to use them on since he has been quite injured already. Right now Kurt needs all the protection he can get.

Mithril watched amazed at how quickly the samurai formed their wall of steel. Snapping out of it she realized that her friends needed her help as well. She raised her hands casting her spell forward to hit them and as many samurai as she could.

As one, the samurai flood through the giants and begin their multi-pronged attack. Those who cannot attack immediately position themselves near the giants, preparing their blows.

Much individual samurai personality will get lost here- though I did try to remember the hastes and the charges. On average I believe it works out.

One mistake I made is that I was hoping we could split up a few giants for the samurai, and the rest for us, but the geometry made that implausible. Next time I'll do a better job.

Most of the samurai's swings miss the giants, especially those of the orange and yellow blades, but so many swinging as one nonetheless has its effect. In a flurry of blades, the giant Kurt had been fighting falls to the ground. The other two are only mildly injured.

Seeing the giant Kurt had been fighting fall, Hilton runs past him. He runs up to a point right behind the samurai attacking one of the other giants, and throws his net through the fighters. The rangers shift their arrows' attention to the same giant.

Note for Achinca: both Kurt and Luther have 22 points of damage each (though Kurt now has your damage sharing spell). I believe Natalia has 12, after she had two points of healing from the

Miriam steps up behind Kurt and casts her spell of protection on him, just before he races forward to towards the next giant.

Shiny steps a bit to his left. He first aims a quick enchantment towards the giant Natalia is fighting to unsettle his mind, and then casts a more powerful spell at the giant who hasn't been injured yet.

Immediately afterward, he shouts something out in the coarse tongue of the giants. "<Giant>That giant throwing boulders is trying to kill you with them! Go kill him first!</Giant>"

Oh, thanks to the Unsettling, they both hit. That means Rocky kills G3 and Karn can shift his attention back to G2. (No crit since composite longbows crit only on 20).

That is distinctly good news for Natalia, who might have been in trouble with the next pair of attacks.

Rocky's arrow flies over Natalia's shoulder- when it hits the giant in the gut, it is enough to make him crumple over.

Karn turns his arrow when he sees Rocky's land, and fires it past the samurai at the giant Kurt is fighting, where it lands a solid hit.

Kurt's laugh rings out in his enlarged state, taking on a more dangerous note as he sees the two other giants coming at them. Rather than waiting to let it close in on the samurai, he goes straight for the one in the open.

Hilton steps up to the dead body of the giant and retrieves his net. He then hustles to follow Kurt.

Shiny runs forward once the giant fighting Natalia is dead, but cannot quite reach far enough to cast another suggestion or distraction spell. Instead, he twists his hand sharply, and a cloud of golden particles appears to cover the giant Kurt is fighting.

One of the samurai had fallen. He looked familiar, like she should know him for some reason. Seeing another giant surrounded by samurai she cast off another spell, grabbing her rod and feeling her circlet glow.
