The room was filled with stones of all shapes, colors and sizes behind Plexiglas cases. It was definitely a museum, as their were fossil specimens among over sized Evolution Stones. Ennis eye is drawn to a trio of perfectly rounded stones, each sporting a mirage of different bright colored. They resembled over sized marbles, one particularly drew your attention. It was a swirl of red, yellow and grey.

Byron looked at you deadpan as you barraged him with questions. Look kids, I'm tired. Old man like me don't stay up this late. Y'all get yer questions answer'd in da morning kay? He led you through the halls, going past one room which was clearly the observation deck to the gym arena below. It was too dark to make anything out besides vague outlines however. He eventually finds the rooms with beds, 1 for the boys and 1 for the lady. The beds weren't really beds, more smoothed slabs of rocks with thin, rough blankets thrown overtop. And no pillow. G'night and don't bug meh till the mornin'.

Donny keeps quiet as they're led to their beds. Byron was their only known ally out here and annoying him wouldn't be the best plan. He takes to his bed and returns Echo. Using his backpack as a pillow, the shaman is soon off to sleep.

You sleep soundly (relatively speaking for sleeping on slabs of rock). You are woken with a painful pinch on your big toes by a Scizor. Motions for you to follow it, leading you back through the gym. You pass through the observation deck, the field being a disappointingly simple open field for exhibition matches. Instead of heading into the display room, you turn right and into what seems like a lounge area. Byron was in there, guzzling a steaming pot of coffee, straight from the pot.

He gasped, steam flitting from his mouth. Look who's awake. Here. His stubby finger hit the TV remote, the set snapping on, already on the news. A female news anchor in a conservative red dress spoke into a microphone, a portrait of fire behind her and the words "BLAZING SLATEPORT" in bold black letters. And welcome back, I'm Maria Segaro, your Sinnoh Direct news anchor. As you all know a 8 days ago, a massive fire broke out in Slateport Docks.

The image swapped to footage of the night. Shaky camera's showing burning buildings, ships, the docks, quickly swapping between them. The Hoenn Ranger Corps have been hard at work, spending night and day in search of the culprits. While the entirety of the docks had burned to cinders in the fire, as well as 94% of the ships docked there, the Rangers report they found accelerantes on the hull of the USS Tidus that had not completely submerged. They have identified it as Devon Corporations special fuel blend they synthesized in Slateport. Derelict crews have been taking accounts of all submerged vessels, and have finally determined the total of the damage. Of the 94% of ships destroyed, the only ones to escape the blaze was a patrol boat the Dock Guards had been found on on Slateport beach, a personal yacht that was at sail when the blaze started and Captain Stern's personal Skiff which is still unaccounted for. The crews dredged up a fueling ship set out from the docks. Rangers believe the culprits stole the the fueling ship using it to spread fuel as the accelerant. Rangers believe Stern's Skiff was their chosen getaway vessel.

The camera changed again, showing a live aerial view of Slateport's western coast. The docks, which had extended out into the bay by half a wile were gone, the wreckage of ships visible through the mostly still water. Clear charred paths streaked into the city, one going as far as 20 city blocks inwards. The fire quickly spread from the docks to adjacent warehouses. The Fire Department responded in record time, but the blaze was particularly intense. Figures are still coming in, but the estimated death total is over 1000, with over 300 people still in critical condition at Slateport General and hundreds more with minor injuries. The city has been shaken by this attack, and citizens fear how they will recover. The Docks were the main source of jobs in the city, leaving most of the city now unemployed. The estimated property damage is well over $1 billion.

The screen changed again, to a video of a press release from Ranger Alpha Simon. We are currently investigating this incident. We hav strong evidence this is a coordinated attack, and as of yet we do not suspect a connection to the attack of the Celadon Warehouse. We ask you please remain calm and let the Rangers do their job. The screen returned to the reporter. Simon went on to explain the intensity of the fire was due to the accelerant used. The fuel blend used by Devon Corp is highly efficient and burns cleanly, but when in uncontrolled environments, it creates high intense flames. Captain Stern has refused to talk to the media about this issue, claiming grief for his lost work.

And that is today's news, thank you for-
Maria was interrupted, as she looked down to the left, lifting a finger to her ear. Hold on folks, it seems we have breaking news here. An anonymous patron has brought up new video of the incident. Jimmy play the video. The video changed to a grainy, poor quality video, aimed at the blazing docks. Based on how much of the docks remained it was very early during the blaze. "Oh my Arceus! Oh! MY! ARCUES! the cameraman was panting heavily, based on the jostling was likely running while recording. Dude are you seeing this? Ya dude I'm recording. A familiar screech of metal bending and breaking, and then something large plunging into they bay. What was that!? Dude over there! The camera swung around suddenly, pointing over the newly toppled silo, a hand appearing in the far right corner pointing. You recognized the Muk as it started to forming before lunging after you. Oh man what is that thing!? Why was it in that silo? I dunno man, this is too freaky. The camera had stabilized as the cameraman stopped running. The camera kept trained on the Muk as it lunged at your boat. Oh dude, its attacking that boat, zoom in! Zoom in! I got it, I got it! The camera shook before zooming in suddenly, taking a moment to focus. The zoom went in and out till it got a clear view of the boat in the Muk's hands.

The video continued on like this for roughly 2 minutes, as it recorded your battle. It zoomed in on each of you as you fought, making sure your fake uniforms and helmets were in full view. The cameraman and his friend continued their color commentary during the fight, before cheering as you felled it. Dude that was so metal! I know! Go Helmet guys! Get out of there before you burn down! A warning flashed on screen, saying the batteries were dieing before the video ended. The screen returned to the reporter, with a look of awed silence. There was no noise, no sound for a solid minute. That was... incredible folks. Jimmy, bring up time 2:03 on screen please. The image behind her changed to the freeze frame she requested. It was an image of the ship as it peeled off towards the open water. She clicked a few times on the screen, zooming in on the tail, bringing the ships moniker into focus. I can confirm it here folks, the culprits were the ones responsible for the deaths of the helicopter crews of Slateport Daily, as well as the confirming they had stolen Stern's Skiff. Chilling indeed folks. We will bring you more as this develops.

The screen shut of as Byron smashed the button. Not what you wanted to hear was it?

The site came up, you find numerous reports on the attack. You find what you were looking for. Apparently, the local news station had deployed their helicopters the second they spotted the blaze. You remember the 2 helicopters that appeared halfway through the battle, which the Muk had destroyed one immediately, and then another not too long after.

The article said that something had interfered with the helicopter's communications (likely the oversized metal Muk). The second copter managed to get one garbled message out.

    Spoiler: Transcript:
    Show

Pilot: What is that that [unintelligible]
Copilot: I du-[static] Tom, just keep her high.
    [48 seconds of static]
    Copilot: TOM WATCH OUT!
    Pilot: OH SHI- [static]
Transmission is only static after that

The derelict crews had dredged up the wreckage of both copters, and had noted the pile of 'silvery substance coating the bay bottom'. They had dismissed the remains of the Muk (at least till this morning) and confirmed both pilots and copilots of both copters had died in the wreckage.

As Donny watches the news feed he puts considerable effort into keeping his face stoic. This was exactly why he had avoided training a fire-type for so long. But it was more than that. They had barged in with only the minimal plan. No one thought to ask about what kind of fuel would be used. No one thought to try and minimize damages. They could have soaked the nearest warehouses or something. Can't some pokemon create rain?

At Eddy's comment Donny chimes in, "Yeah. That wasn't our goal. Next time we'll have to be more careful."

I ain't allowed to teach you proper respect, but I am sure as Void allowed to whoop your skinny little ass for sassin' me. I wasn't gonna tell ya, because the news is better than it than I am and no news plays at Arceus Judged at knight. Now. He hefted his trademark shovel, gripping it firmly in his hands, before slamming it down on Ennis head for 66 Physical Steel damage. Anyone else gotta a wise crack for me, or do you wanna keep on workin'? His face was stern, and the grip of his shovel made it clear he was willing to use it.

'Yeah, not like there is an internet .... or a 24 hour news channel .... OR JUST MUKKING TELLING US!!!' She clenches her fists, but turns her back on the group rather than keep fighting Byron. 'You guys can handle the planning, I'm off for a drink.' She lights up a cig and walks away before anyone can stop her, flipping the bird as she exits.

Donny says to the large man. He wasn't reproachful, smarmy, or even angry. He just seemed resigned to the actions that they'd taken of their own will. This was war, and he would have to keep reminding himself of that before he could do anything more. But he wasn't quitting yet.

Aidan watches Ennis storm out - he honestly doesn't exactly disagree with her, but at the same time understands that knowing sooner wouldn't have changed anything this time. Sighing, he says, "We muked up. Big time. And innocent lives were the cost. But at the same time... we still probably did the best we could, given our mission and our own capabilities. We need more options, and more control over their outcomes... and in order to do that, all of us are going to need to be stronger, smarter, and better prepared." He glances at Byron for a moment before heading over to the computer that Ennis vacated, saying to the man behind him, "Donny brings up a good question, though. Our goal was to hurt Devon financially. The method proved to be an Arceus Judged mukup of titanic proportions, but we need to know if the actual mission was a success, or whether we need to continue." As he says this, he begins searching for information on the attacks, in particular to see if anyone's actually connected this to CIPHER or not.

You scour news sites for information. You don't find anything of note beyond what you've already heard. A few sites noticed the strange burning on the partially sunken battleship but nothing more. Further digging cropped up blogs discussing the battleships scorchmarks. More than a few blogs (known for crackpot theories) claimed it looked like CIPHER's logo and that the group was trying to muscle into League Territory while they were distracted.

    Ennis
As you storm off through the gym, you get a tad lost. You were in the back area that was normally off limits to the general public, and the layout wasn't intuitive. It takes a good 10 minutes to reach the main battle arena (still empty and plain) and then the main entrance. As you stomp towards it, you feel something tug at your pant leg. A small pokemon about waist high had grabbed your pants and was tugging gently. The yellow and black pokemon, with freakishly long hair stared up at you with big mournful eyes, pleading.

    Everybody but Ennis

Its not my rightful place to say if you've done 'nough. If you want I can call up Sabrina and ask. Can't guarantee she'll be thrilled to talk to her covert sabotage squad whilst their on a mission.

If I'd hazard a guess, I'd say you did. You put a large portion of Devon out of business and they won't bounce back any time soon. Not without pirating some Silph ships first!
Byron boomed laughter, thoroughly amusing himself. But thats just me. You did destroy most of a major city Devon had strong economic activity in.

The Mawile's hair suddenly lurched upwards, parting down the middle. Thick saliva connecting bristling fangs of the parted hair-mouth. The hair-mouth latched on your hand with a snap. Its large tongue moved over your hand and forearm, prying the berry from your palm. Slowly the hair-mouth retracted, sliding along your forearm soaking it in saliva, a strand connecting your thumb to us. The hair-mouth munch and swallowed, a small lump flowing down the the ponytail that connected the hair-mouth to its head. The Mawile rubbed its stomach contentedly, before opening its smaller mouth again, pointing.
