Re: Civilization 5: Giant Multiplayer Robot in the Playground
To venice
SpoilerThe amount of turns it would take to build a settle would be something I couldn't afford to waste. For me to even consider it you'd have to give me the money up front to buy the settler. Doing so would also increase my social policy cost so I'd have to have another settler ready to found a new second city afterwards to make up for that and I'm not ready to train that settler yet.
So you'll either have to wait for me to train a settler for myself and then give me the money to buy one for you or give me the money up front to buy two settlers. If you were to do the latter I'd be happy to give you the city for free for just the advanced fee to buy the settler. Otherwise I'd want some luxuries or something, which as much as I'd love to keep my neighbours in constant debt to me I don't suppose is particularly viable for you since you'd need the happiness for your new city.
So my terms I suppose are enough gold for two settlers, one of which I will trade to you for free OR you will have to wait until I'm prepared to build a new city and then I will have to ask for something I do not yet know if I need.
Poland seems to want to turn me against you, so anything I can do to benefit from both of you needing my help against the other is good for me. You can trust me to carry out deals in the short turn, but try not to do so in the long run unless you're clearly the winning ticket I need as my ally. If you can continue to give me better deals than Poland I feel we can be great friends but otherwise I may have to join a coalition against you. You of course understand that I made also need to ask for unfair deals to prepare for the possibility of you backstabbing me and allying with Poland.
By the way, if you want to settle that highly valuable island just east of you with the gems and another resource, I have a feeling that it would be much better for both of us in the long term if that island was settled by someone else, if such a thing is possible. In the short term gems and spices are available on the mainland.

Um... small problem. I just submitted my turn, and GMR says it's still my turn. How do I submit it when the client-app-thing doesn't accept saving on Sartain's password-input screen?
EDIT: Never mind, fixed itself. Somehow.Last edited by Qwertystop; 2013-08-30 at 10:12 AM.

Sorry about that, was out of town for some work and study-related stuff, was hoping I'd be able to be back before my turn expired. Obviously not. Ah well, now I can always blame the AI if I don't win :)

Re: Civilization 5: Giant Multiplayer Robot in the Playground
Remember that while your current location may be bad, there are options for over-seas expansion to rectify this. Also, if one player appears to be in a position to wipe you out, there's probably another player who will benefit from stopping that player expanding. Diplomacy can be useful.
Unfortunately for you, I've been considering you my no 1 rival since you over-took me on whose been quickest to play their turn.
My current problem is that truffles are so abundant around me they're practically worthless unless I expand quickly or fight a ton of wars to monopolise them.Last edited by Closet_Skeleton; 2013-08-31 at 04:16 PM.

Poland would probably need some truffles, but I don't think I've got any duplicates connected yet.
Also, on the subject of starting another, I would recommend finding a group of your own Silverraptor. This one will probably run for a while more, and I personally wouldn't wanr to play G&K or vanilla now that I'm used to BNW.

Re: Civilization 5: Giant Multiplayer Robot in the Playground
Shielding your eyes from the harsh desert sun, you witness a hooded figure walking out of a shadowed cleft in the rocks.
As he approaches, the hood of the robe comes down to reveal the king of Poland.
"He has spoken to me," the King said, wide-eyed. "Dalaar-atan has spoken, and I am witness to his demands! Follow with me, brothers, for our god has great plans for this world!"

Re: Civilization 5: Giant Multiplayer Robot in the Playground
To Venice
SpoilerI currently have the problem that I can't send a trading vessel to your capital because I can't see its exact location on any of my maps. Since we are simple folk without the ability to trade embassies, to find your capital I would have to enter your territory, a act of war.
I would like an agreement that if I declare war on you so that I can enter your territory to see your capital, you would then not attack any of my units and offer peace immediately. Then I will be able to send a trading ship your way in the 5 or so turns it will take to build another one. I assure you that this is not a trick and my sole injured military unit is not a threat to your city even if I did plan on tricking you.
Also, there is a bandit camp on the shoreline between our territory. I tried to take this camp out but my soldiers were outnumbered and forced to retreat. Since this camp could build ships that would threaten our trade I ask for your help in defeating it once my depleted forces have recovered."that nighted, penguin-fringed abyss" - At The Mountains of Madness, H.P. SpoilerThat is fine. Feel free to come view the grand city of Venice. Take care that your soldiers don't decide not to return, the city is rather nice this time of year. Hopefully in the future we'll work out a way to skip all the bureaucratic red tape, and make visits a simpler affair.
As for the barbarians, I am moving troops out to reinforce you as we speak.

It's a good city, because there is nothing for the barbarians to burn down...

Re: Civilization 5: Giant Multiplayer Robot in the Playground
Well, in the interests of Spectators I should probably start making a few more updates about how France is doing (no pics yet, sorry).
With that in mind:
Spoiler
Dearest Josephine
Our new city of Orleans is growing at a good rate, while our technologically advanced forces have driven the still cantankerous Shoshone settlers and their escorts away. The People are holding a festival in honour of the gods.
Unfortunately our army's presences on our western border has allowed foul barbarians to pillage our sugar plantation east of Paris. They will need to be made an example of, and shall be once our warriors return from scouting the Pols in the north.
Yours,
Napoleon.

Re: Civilization 5: Giant Multiplayer Robot in the Playground
3 spectators. I've only just started playing Civ V, and am still in my first game on the lowest difficulty. (And using a lot of "oops, that didn't work. Reload an old save...") So it would be a bad idea for me to try a multi-player game. But it is interesting to watch what everyone else is doing.

4 spectators--finding this interesting, would be nice to just get a screenshot of the map. Although I don't suppose anyone *has* the full map yet, and if one person posted that information it would give details to the other players they shouldn't really have, so bit of a tricky one all told!

In other news, I got my new computer in the mail today and will be installing everything on there tonight. Finally I'll learn what Civ 5 is actually supposed to look like. And I'll toss up some pictures.

Re: Civilization 5: Giant Multiplayer Robot in the Playground
From the Royal Records of the Polish Empire
Spoiler
Right, it's about time we got a snapshot of the Empire as it stands. (Hello spectators! )
Spoiler
First, my poor, beleaguered capital.
Spoiler
And my new city. Still a bit small, unfortunately I elected to not go with Tradition. All the sand will provide for an early game religion boost, however, which I intend to use to become the dominant religious power. At least that's the plan.
Really, I just wanted those horses. Poland's cavalry is fun.
Spoiler
In other news, war has broken out between Venice and Portugal. It could just be some worker exchange arrangement, but I may have to start building up a bigger defensive force. Can't let one of those two be destroyed so early; I'm the natural target should either fall. Although Venice declaring on someone is strange...
I've sent messages to all met players in order to hide my offers to both warring parties to help. Plan is to support whomever is weaker, maintain the status quo and give my own empire time to start rolling.
To Venice:
SpoilerI see you have gone to war with the Portugese. Any information you can reveal about the origins of the conflict? I'd be glad to give some assistance if things are going poorly.
To Portugal:
SpoilerI see that Venice has declared on you. Any information you can reveal about the origins of the conflict? I'd be glad to give some assistance if any aid is needed.
To France:
SpoilerIt looks like either Portugal or Venice is going on the offensive. Any idea what started their war?
To Indonesia:
SpoilerIt looks like either Portugal or Venice is going on the offensive. Any idea what is going on there?

Re: Civilization 5: Giant Multiplayer Robot in the Playground
To Indonesia
Spoiler
I have discovered this beautiful resource rich island, currently occupied by a city state on its eastern side but uninhabited on the western. I won't promise those ruins will still be there before you reach it.
I would be willing to subsidise you buying a settler to found a city here. This may not be feasible due to how far it is from your territory but if I merely settled the island myself it wouldn't have your spices, which would combine with my ability to make trading with you very profitable.
Your city would be safe from attack from me since it would have less value to me if I captured it, but Venice may have other plans so I may have to withdraw this offer.
To Venice
Spoiler
Poland has apparently learned of our little 'war' and is offering aid. I am highly suspicious and would like to know if he has offered you the same.
If you have some plan for a ruse feel free to continue this state of 'war' for a a short while, but otherwise I'd like to see a return to peace so I can convince my citizens to resume building trading ships.
Hilariously, since I entered your territory without declaring war, Casimir appears to believe that you declared war on me. Whether or not you wish to clarify this to him I leave up to you.
I am also considering inviting Indonesia to settle the large island east of you. This would probably be an excellent trade opportunity for the three of us but I would like to ask your opinion. Of course until Indonesia replies this is merely an idea.
To Poland
SpoilerI have been savagely attacked over a minor dispute.
Don't worry, I should be able to defend myself with my superior navy and technology. I only fear that my luxuries may be burned down so a discount once you have your salt mines repaired would be very useful.
Reports of the Portuguese Cartographic Society - 1960 BC
Spoiler
This is the earliest map complete enough to form a part of our records. The south-west area was discovered in ruins explored by the Portuguese Army. These maps led our forces to another ruin where we managed to beat Poland to the prize and discovered the secrets of trapping that are now key to both the economy and spiritualism.
Directly to the east of Lisboa, surrounded on all sides by sea and jungle, is the recently discovered city of Venice.
South center, by the horses and cotton on the edge of the great expanse of sand and wheat, the Polish city of Krakow was founded shortly after this map was archived.
The area between Zurich and Lisboa has recently been mapped to be the home of a vile barbarian tribe who have been a threat to Zurich for centuries.
Several areas are being considered for the settlement of a second city for the Portuguese people, but all have flaws.
The shore between Lisboa and Venice is the primary considered site. Unfortunately it is lacking in a source of flowing water, but it is nearby sources of both gems, spices and fish and is far north enough of the jungle to have room for farming. The barbarian tribes living there will also first need to be subdued.
The mouth of the river west of Lisboa has the advantage of the river, but is lacking in resources.
Finally, the mountain south west of Zurich is another possible site, but may be too far away.
The area between Krakow and Warsaw will surely feed a great city some day, but it would probably not be strategic for it to be a Portuguese city without first ensuring Poland's submission.
This island north of Zurich was discovered just this year by the second ship of the Armada Real. It is another possible site for a city to be founded later after the technology is available.
Another island, shown in a letter to Indonesia, lies east of Venice. Its contains what is as far as we know the world's only natural wonder, a mountain of great religious significance to its primitive owners.
