Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
If that's what your art looks like when you're rusty, it must really be something when you're not.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Look great! My only suggestion is to thicken the lines for arms and legs. They look kinda scrawny, especially compared with the rest of the figure. But really, they look fantastic!
Edit: The female's head looks a bit off-center compared to the body. Maybe shift the head a bit to the left?Last edited by Lord Torath; 2016-08-20 at 05:44 PM.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Elthias Holmgate, a dwarven wizard. I drew it to try to visualize the character, and it's sitting as part of an avatar request at the moment. Thought I'd try to get opinions before I do a take 2.
Sorry for the sideways. The image hoster refuses to play nice.
Personally, something about the legs seems wrong and the staff is too thin, so I'll need to try to fix that...

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
The thing that most obviously looks off about the legs to me is that they're too thick for standard limbs, even taking into account that you appear to be using the new art style, yet at the same time are not thick enough to look like clothing.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Is this thread still active? I guess so, just not used a whole lot any more.
Anyway, I love the OOTS art style and practice consistently and diligently to remain faithful to Rich's style as it evolves. Usually I do this with PCs of my own devising, but my group members worked with me to create our current party in the Princes of the Apocalypse game we're in - which I only left an hour or so ago.
I've learned a lot of great ways to create details and simplify more involved processes. I've also finally figured out how to create proper outdoor backgrounds and then went so far as nearly duplicate an animal from Rich's Monster for Every Season Spring release.
I hope y'all like it.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
The last post was made 3.5 months ago and already mentioned a lack of activity. But I suppose this is still the current OotS fanart showcase thread.
So I was thinking about beholders, specifically those that are also another creature, and I decided to make a couple attempts at avatar creation.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Those look rather nice, and while not revolutionary the poses are well done and do make them quite a bit livelier.
It's rather reminiscent of Kris on a Stick (or whatever name he goes by nowadays).
You might want to be a bit careful with line weights though, keep them consistent throughout the image and use path extrusion (Illustrator/Fireworks/Inkscape) to make the pointy ends of hair properly pointy or just doing it by hand with a mask (Paint/Photoshop/GIMP/Fireworks).Last edited by AsteriskAmp; 2017-03-31 at 12:40 AM.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I use a painty program rather than a vectory one so I tried my best to translate as appropriate, but:
For the limbs in general instead of drawing the limb as a single stroke/object with an outline, like I would do with eyes, I actually draw it as two separate borderless objects - the thicker black one behind, and then a thinner/smaller colored duplicate drawn on top. You can see that the 'outline' actually wavers and has uneven thickness in places since I didn't redraw the colored portion perfectly in alignment. I quite like the effect, actually - I might adapt it for coloring blocks and shapes in general, but it'd depend on how masochistic I'm feeling, to do an entire avatar in that style.
For where the lines overlap, like the dark elf's curled hand, that'd be actually four separate 'objects' - I did the arm first with the black shape and then the colored shape on top, and then drew the finger on over it.
Here's two more recent ones that have some more overlapping examples.
Spoiler
Translating an ox guard to stick style in particular was a bitch to do. I did the arms first (thick black line, thinner colored line over the top) then drew the sleeves over the top on a separate layer.Last edited by Ashen Lilies; 2017-04-03 at 09:21 PM.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Is the way the fingers grips (or rather don't) around the objects handle wanted ? It looks awfully weird (a&nd yes I know it used to be a thing in OOTS style but i'm pretty sure it has changed since.. a lonh while)

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Personally I quite like how the hands grip, but I do agree that if you look at them for a while they do look strange.
However, it seems like it would be pretty trickey to draw hands gripping things properly
(I mean it would probably be pretty difficult to draw someone gripping a sword when they only have three fingers, or is that just me? )

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
There's other ways around the gripping of things.
Spoiler: Making the fist a solid mass like OotS punches
Spoiler: Leavingthe line solid black to not bother with the problems of perspective and warping
Spoiler: Super-stylising the gripping element and planning it so you can upsize the hand into visibilityLast edited by AsteriskAmp; 2017-04-17 at 02:36 PM.

Spent the last few hours on a Kobold warlock, images below. I used gray instead of the typical orange because I wanted him to seem more serious.
Questions/comments/suggestions? I would particularly appreciate thoughts on the magic color.

I would also recommend "softening" the lines between the holy symbol and the "head" of the spell. The hard corners on the tail of the spell look out of place.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Oh god how long has it been since I posted here...
Miraculous Ladybug has swallowed my life soooo...
Cat Noirs! Adrien and Felix (who's from the PV of the show).
Ladybugs will come when I can be bothered to do spots. Spots are evil though.
Edit:
Bonus!
New Avatar and a Plagg. Adrien's in a different outfit due to tumblr related reasons.
Edit Again:
Aaaand a D&D character too, since an old campaign is rebooting.
