    CAST OF CHARACTERS
    Barret Oliver Baron (Bessebiscut)
    Spoiler
    Show
    Age: 23
Aspects: Rough Exterior, Soft Interior; Hard Playing Power Forward

    Description:
Barrett stands at a ripped and ready 6'1'' and 230lbs. With brown shaggy hair and well trimmed beard, he's Canada's finest. Well built but not overly massive. He tend wears a flannel shirt, jeans of varying color (normally torn or frayed in some way), and his ever dependable boots.

    Personality:
Barrett is fairly cynical, with little interest others. He is proud Canadian and is not shy about the fact or very nice about it. He has little problem bending and in some cases breaking the rule to get what he wants. He dislikes authority figures. Despite his rough exterior, Barrett is simply a victim of lonely childhood. He desires nothing more than to have known his mother. Deep down Barrett knows that his father loves him and a simply another victim of circumstance. Also for all braggadocios ways, Barrett like few things more then peace quiet and simple reflection.

    Background:
Barrett was born in Ottawa, Canada to a lumberjack father and hippie mother. His mother died in childbirth and his father, in light of this tragedy, was largely not there for him as a child. Barrett grew up feeling alone and shunned by polite society and responded by living a largely delinquent life style. Before the age of 16, Barrett had racked up over 15 petty criminal charges but had largely stayed out of system due to his father's constant bailouts and Barrett’s skill on ice as strong and aggressive power forward. After that final bailout, he skipped town and headed south. After a failed 5 years of living in New York trying to get a spot on the Rangers, Barrett hopped a Grey Hound destined for anywhere. His fare finally ran out in Seattle. He's currently working as a bouncer for sports bar at Rookies Bar & Grill and desperately trying to get a spot on the Thunderbirds.

    Thomas Charlebois (Chase_D)
    Spoiler
    Show
    Age:17
Aspects: Silent Friend, A picture's worth of words, <unused>, <unused>

    Description:
Thomas is a 6'1" teenager, with a light brown hair, cut short and spiked at the front, and has dark green eyes. He weighs an average of 165 lbs and has a rather pale complexion. He seems to look tired all the time with shadows under his eye. He has a scar on the palm of his left hand that forms the word “WAIT” that he scratched in when he was a child.

He tends to wear a black sweater, with a white shirt under that, along with dark navy blue jeans due to the fact that he is used to much colder climate due to growing up in Northern Quebec. He also sometimes changes the color of the shirt he wears as well depending on his mood or for first impressions.

    Personality:
Thomas is a quiet individual, and tends to focus on the task at hand rather than getting involved with the personal needs of others. He tends to have a general ignorance of others, although he come around after spending a bit of time with people. He is a really nice guy at heart, and will stick up for his friends. He likes to be around others that are either similar to him, or would be interesting to be around. He rarely talks, but when he does, you can expect it to be either something great or something mean when he does. He tends to smile a bunch, but when he is alone he usually has a slight frown.

Thomas is interested in Photography, Reading, and finding places to hang out and relax. He loves the wintertime as it is one of the clearest things he can remember as a kid, playing out in the snow with his Mother and Father. He has a fear of enclosed spaces, and hates being cramped in places with tons of people. He tries as much as he can to avoid his mother, and tends to talk very little to her as possible. He loves go for walks, since it allows him to clear his mind and feel normal. He doesn’t hang out with his friends too much, but occasionally will when he feels sad or lonely. He can speak both english and french, although he doesn’t use french much anymore.

    Background:
Thomas grew up with his mother and father in Northern Quebec until the age of 8, when his father was presumed dead after an accident involving a mine collapse. Surprisingly Thomas seemed to act rather indifferent after his father died, but his mother decided to move to Southern Ontario, not wanting to make things worse for him. Thomas’s mother was a teacher, and since they received insurance money after the death of his father, she was determined to “Spend more time with Thomas” and stopped teaching full time and switched to substituting. After finishing up elementary, they moved again, this time immigrating to Seattle.

During his high school years, his Mother found him to be more involved in other activities such and photography instead of making friends, so she took him to a psychologist to see what was wrong. It was then discovered that he was mentally 'separated' from this world, and that he used things like reading and photography to escape. Thomas's mother was recommended that he spend time with people who have similar interest to help him reconnect with others.

Now at the age of seventeen he still has some issues with talking to others, almost seeming like he is ignoring them, however he has a few friend that he talks to and can connect with.

    Mitchell "Mic" Norris (tonberryking)
    Spoiler
    Show
Age: The Macguyver, Tortoise's Bravery, "Where were you hiding that?!", The Ace in the Hole from Any Given Sports Movie About Kids

    Description:
Still a shrimp, but with a scruffy kind of ruggedness to him, Mic has the light tan of an outdoorsy person, and often than not scraps or bandaids that move around his body depending on what he hit this time. Wears a baseball cap, steel gray and dark blue, that for all intents and purposes must be stapled to his head, with longish brown wisps of hair in back, cargo shorts, and a long sleeved shirt with some indecipherable design on one side. Sneakers or soccer cleats only. Wears a tangle of paracord bracelets on one hand, a sportswatch on the other, and no one's quite sure of his eyes (they're gray,) and tends to carry a folding, Razor scooter with its own strap with him at all times.

    Personality:
Kind of a quiet kid around others, but boisterous and energetic when given a ball to kick or a bike to drive over a hillside. Mic doesn't readily talk about his own skills or talents, though. In fact, he's kind of mellow opposed to roughneck or aggressive, more often than not he gets thick in the mud and doesn't give a damn. He has a passive resourcefulness to his workings, often trying to come up with tasks for himself or solutions to problems. He seems to be afraid, actually, to ask for things from others, even if it's something as simple as a ride home, a slice of cake, or if it's okay for him to tag along with others. He seems utterly unwilling to start or be a part of arguing for long, and outside of competitive sports (which are different) he disdains most kinds of fighting. His relations with other kids is..well, just there. Goes along with crowds, but tends to flee them if put under scrutiny or asked to go against his own judgement too hard. He knows just enough to act without getting picked on or beaten up himself, but not enough to rise above the lower social rungs due to his pacifism.

Has a habit of learning how to do new things, and despite limited future educational prospects seems like the handy sort. Doesn't have enough confidence in his soccer abilities (despite being good) to consider a future in it, daydreams about some sort of job where he could ride bikes all day long. Hell, he also dreams of actually owning a bike. Still plays with legos, of all things, or more accurately, still builds things out of them when he's bored with idle hands.

    Background:
Mic's father is a rich man. Mic and his mother are not.

She wouldn't even have custody of her child if not for the fact she was able to prove in court Mic had gotten that black eye after his dad got a bottle of bourbon. Not that he's given up on trying to win back full rights or even partial visitations. She works now, very late and long hours rather than just try to live on alimony, and Mic does what he can helping out at home. Tends to leave her dinner in the fridge, gets to school on time, and tries to do homework in enough time to play with his scooter to kick a ball around. The only reason he doesn't feel more bitter, more entitled to a better life, is because his mom's the person who's worse off and he sees it. Mic's not the one who cries alone, and it's bolstered his resolve to be good. To keep thing from getting any worse.

Not exactly an adventurous lifestyle, but in a sad sort of way, he feels that he's living on borrowed time, having little faith in the prospect of his dad never again coming back into his life. Which, above all else, he never, ever wants to see happen. His father was a condescending man who only wants visitation/custody because he isn't allowed it. Mic believes, and has to believe that his father doesn't really love him, else his own resolve may slip. To him, his father just likes hurting people with words, and by having better things than the other guy.

It can get kind of lonely, but Mic's used to it. But despite not understanding why this kind of solitude can hurt him, he goes along with it because the alternative is little known to him. One must wonder what would happen if he was exposed to a stronger bond than he thought possible...

    Shawn Reinhardt (Failed Phantasm)
    Spoiler
    Show

    Age: 14
Aspects: Mask of Stoicism, Broken Wings, <unused>, <unused>

    Description:
Shawn is slightly taller than average for a boy his age, at five feet and ten inches tall (~178 cm) when standing completely straight, which he usually is. He weighs roughly 130 pounds (~59 kg), with a build that is somewhat wiry and lean from running and hiking, but as he is still a young teenager, he does not have much in the way of muscle tone. His skin has begun to tan from the amount of time he's spent outdoors ever since moving from Seattle, though he still appears somewhat pale when not in natural sunlight. Shawn's light, sandy brown hair always manages to look halfway combed, no matter how hard he tries to make himself look presentable. His bangs are parted over his right eye and swept to the left, with the fringe long enough to reach just above his left eye without falling into it; his hair also grows just over his ears and down to the nape of his neck, with stray strands sticking out everywhere, as though the wind had been blowing through his hair all day. His eyes are a soft shade of blue, and his facial features are very gently angled, with a straight nose, moderately high cheekbones, and a strong jaw that frame his face while still retaining the "not-quite-adult" appearance of a teenager who hasn't finished growing yet.

Shawn's typical attire consists of a plain T-shirt — usually with an abstract print or a few simple stripes — jeans, and a pair of hiking boots, even when he's just going for a walk. Over all of this, Shawn has a favorite black duster that he wears whenever it wouldn't be unbearably hot to do so. While he doesn't obssess over it, Shawn does try his best to keep it in the best condition he can, since it was given to him as a gift.

    Personality:
Calm, thoughtful, and soft-spoken, Shawn believes that the only stability he will ever have in his life is that which he makes for himself. He's lost friends not long after making them, left behind schools and towns just as they started to become familiar, been forced to leave houses just as they began to feel like home. The constant instability of his situation has hardened Shawn to the point that his default emotion is indifference, his face a stoic façade that he presents to a world that is always changing, no matter how desperately he wants it to stop. The strict emotional control he's learned has served him well: he does not flinch in the face of things that would frighten, alarm, or unnerve other teenagers, and Shawn can be counted on to remain focused even in the most stressful of situations. That is not to say that he doesn't feel such things, only that being afraid has never stopped the things that scare him from happening, and that crying and screaming has never made anything about his life change for the better; consequently, Shawn has learned to take everything calmly and in stride, refusing to let his emotions get the better of him.

Far from anti-social or shy — he wants social contact and friendship as much as anyone — Shawn's detached manner can nevertheless make him seem haughty or aloof, and sometimes he feels as though he interacts better with adults than with people his own age. He manages to make at least a few friends no matter where he is forced to go, and he can be warm and personable even with people he doesn't feel particularly close to, but he has never managed to maintain a lasting friendship with anyone. Most of his relationships end simply because he and his friends have drifted too far apart, in too many ways. This has made friendship a rather awkward concept for him. He's not so afraid of being hurt or losing his friends that he won't even make the attempt or actively push people away, but he also finds it difficult to totally let down his guard, even when it would mean having a good time with the friends he does have. Trust is also a delicate issue for Shawn: he wants to know what it's like to be able to trust someone completely, and be trusted the same way in return, but he's never gotten close enough to anyone for that to happen, and he's very careful about what he trusts other people with.

Of course, Shawn knows that sometimes his façade will crack, or that he'll be faced with something that no sane person can be expected to stand and face with indifference. During (or after) such times, Shawn prefers to be alone if he has the time to break down emotionally, not out of any misguided belief that his emotions are a weakness, but because he's unaccustomed to others showing him sympathy. Deep inside, though, Shawn knows who he is beneath his mask: a lonely fourteen-year-old who feels like his spirit's been utterly broken by everything that's happened to him in his life, who puts on a brave face because it's the only way he can get up every morning, who desperately needs something or someone to give him a reason to have hope again, a reason to believe that tomorrow really will be better than the day before.

A notable quirk of Shawn's is that he almost never laughs or grins around anyone, even his adoptive parents, stifling his laughs to brief scoffs and forcing back emerging grins or hiding them behind a hand. He does smile, if a tug at the corner of his mouth counts, but never enough to show his teeth. Coaxing an uninhibited laugh or grin out of Shawn is the best indicator that he feels totally at ease with someone, enough to let them know that he's not afraid to be himself when he's with them.

One of Shawn's rarely-expressed talents is his musical ability: his singing voice is, surprisingly, excellent for a person who has only ever had limited formal training. However, hearing Shawn sing is even rarer than seeing him smile, even though it is one of the few things about himself he is proud of. When he feels like making music, he prefers to play the cello, which he has been practicing ever since being adopted by the Reinhardt family, and which he can play with some competence, though he knows that he needs many more years of practice before he will be able to play it well.

    Background:
Shawn had only just turned three years old when a plane crash claimed both of his parents' lives. His only living biological relative was his elderly maternal grandmother, who had been placed in an assisted-living center due to her deteriorating mental condition. Shawn was quietly placed in a short-term foster home — the first of many — but not yet made available to be adopted, as his grandmother was trying to win legal custody of her grandson, a battle that only ended after the better part of a year, when she was declared mentally unfit. Although he would not learn of it until years after it happened, his grandmother would pass away shortly thereafter, as the pain and shock of losing her only daughter, son-in-law, and grandson were too much for her to bear. Perhaps because of this, Shawn was quickly moved to another foster home that was hours from his old neighborhood, beginning an eight-year-long nightmare that involved well over two dozen adoptive families and foster homes, and that would take him across most of the northwestern United States.

Not every family that adopted Shawn was kind to him. In the worst instance, it took the intervention of a very perceptive social worker to have him removed from the home of an abusive adoptive father; but even at the best of times, Shawn had the distinct feeling that he wasn't what any of them were looking for in an adopted child. He was physically attractive to many prospective families, with his sandy hair and blue eyes, and his reticence was mistaken for an obedient nature. On the surface, he was the child that many parents would have loved to have. But he was also, however, not a baby or infant, not exceptionally clever or talented or outgoing, and he was still deeply scarred by the loss of his parents - a wound that had never begun to truly heal, because he had never been given the time or support he needed to grieve. Most of his adoptive parents soon discovered this about Shawn, running into his deep-seated emotional trauma as if it were a brick wall, and almost all of them did not feel as though they could handle it; those that tried often learned that his grief ran deeper than they first thought, finding him to be evasive about his problems and resistant to the efforts of his therapists. Most of Shawn's adoptions were never legally finalized for this reason, and all but one of the rest were dissolved shortly after being made official.

It was pure serendipity that brought Shawn, who was eleven years old by then, and his future family together in late 2009. Earlier that year, Shawn had been interviewed by a woman making a documentary on the most deadly plane crashes of the decade, and the journalist's gentle and sympathetic demeanor managed to coax out more of the boy's story than he had ever told anyone before. Though the film was not widely viewed in America, it managed to make its way to a man named Erik Reinhardt - a former executive for the airline whose plane crashed in the Atlantic - who had resigned his position in shame and protest after what he believed was the mishandling of the investigation. Hearing Shawn's story for the first time caused all of those old feelings to reemerge: the guilt at having been indirectly responsible for the deaths of nearly three hundred people, the shame at having never been able to bring peace to the families who were affected by the tragedy, the remorse that he could not give justice to the children that were orphaned and the men and women who were made widowers and widows because of the disaster so many years ago. Seeing Shawn gave Mr. Reinhardt a new purpose, a renewed sense of resolve. Even if he could not change the lives of every person who had been made a victim, he could change the life of the little boy whose only wish was to have a family again. He and his wife, Kirsten, after a good deal of lengthy and thorough discussion, flew to Seattle in early November, just before Shawn's twelfth birthday, to see what could be done for him.

International adoptions were so rare that Shawn had never heard of them before, never mind those that involved an American-born child and West European adoptive parents, but, during the screening process, Shawn and the Reinhardts were allowed to speak privately. As heart-wrenchingly honest as Shawn had been during his interview, Erik and Kirsten were equally so, if not more, when they explained why they wanted to adopt him. For Shawn's part, there was no sudden opening up, no abrupt revelation of all the secret pain and grief he had been keeping locked up inside, but there was something that he had not felt in a very long time: a flicker of hope - hope that this German couple with their unusually-accented English and their connection to the plane crash that derailed Shawn's life actually could help him change for the better, hope that they actually cared about who he was, hope that he might be able to one day bury his grief and move on. Having been informed of just how many other families had attempted to adopt Shawn in the past, and suspecting that he would not respond favorably to yet another move, Erik and Kirsten decided that it would be best for the boy to remain in Seattle, which was the closest thing to a hometown that he had. For Shawn's part, it was somehow comforting to have something approaching stability in his life again: he wouldn't have to learn about a new neighborhood so much as remember where he'd been before, wouldn't have to adjust to a new school so much as go back to one of his old ones. There was a kind of peace to it, a sense that Shawn could stop, catch his breath, and start moving on with his life. It was a second chance he never thought he'd be given, and when he found himself standing on the porch of his new home on November 18, 2009 - his twelfth birthday - he was determined to make the most of that second chance, even though he knew that his road to recovery was very long, indeed.

    Luís Raposa Romero (Yodas_Free_Boat)
    Spoiler
    Show
    Age: 17
    Aspects:

    Description:
Luis is a tall and lanky kid, just a hair under 6’ but not very muscular for his size. He’s got a mop of shaggy, incredibly curly, dark brown hair that sits on his head. His skin is naturally quite tan, though studying at boarding schools, all of which seem somehow capable of avoiding sunlight, for a the last few years has left his skin a few shades paler than he'd prefer. He also a pair of Gray eyes that seem to casually scan and assess everything they see, one of the few physical traits, aside form his height, that Luis inherited from his mother.

His wardrobe is an odd combination of 'slightly fashionable' and 'did he just grab whatever was next to his bed this morning?'. He typically wears jeans, one of a number of private school blazers, and a t-shirt underneath. The final piece of his typical outfit is something he actually doesn't wear on a regual basis; the pair of a pilot goggles that his father gave him. Those he typically keeps in his messenger bag, and only takes out as some sort of good luck charm for himself.

    Personality:
Luis is, more than anything, a product of his environment. When he was a small child his parents both had jobs that meant they had to leave on short notice, meaning that he grew up very solitary, always craving companionship but slowly learning to live without it, to make due with entertaining the random thoughts that would run through his head.
The divorce of his parents at a young age left him feeling somewhat ineffective, as though his actions can’t influence the world around him. And the way he was often treated as a plaything by his mother, a trophy to wheel around and show off to her friends, certainly didn't make the young boy feel any more in control of his life.

The private school education he received while with his mother meant that he is quite knowledgeable on a variety of different things, but never felt truly confident enough in one subject to consider himself smart. Especially since he was often leaving and/or returning in the middle of the school year due to the whims of his parents, which left him either quite ahead of the rest of the class or a good deal behind them. In either case he is often reluctant to speak up to answer a question, afraid that he'll be incorrect and incur the ridicule of his classmates (though he has gotten better about this now that he's more consistently living with his mother).

If asked to describe Luis, most of his friends would admit that he's rather quiet, that he rarely tries to influence the decision that anyone makes, and that he seems to fold at the first sign of pressure. In fact, the only time that they'd say they've seen Luis ‘come alive’ was when he’s standing up for something he really believed in. The only fight he's ever gotten into was when he stood up against a group of bullies who were terrorizing a girl that Luis and his freinds knew. As one bystander told it, "They [the gang] were just messing with the girl. They'd gotten ahold of her backpack and were playing keep away, calling her names, insulting her mother, stuff like that. The girl was close to tears, and then, out of nowhere, Luis just body checks the head bully. Like it was something out of a hockey match. He [the head bully] was just sprawled out of the ground. Now, there were still 5 other bullies, but Luis had this look in his eyes, like he would have done the same thing even it was 50 guys. He got his ass handed to him, even went to hospital for a day or two, but man, he made sure those A**holes paid for every punch they landed". The strangest thing, at least to his friends, was that Luis didn't even really want to date the girl. He even politely turned down her offer. Apparently he just couldn't stand the bullies terrorizing that girl.

It was a noble, and stupid, act that, once she learned the motivation behind it, encouraged his mother to pressure Luis to get into youth counseling. Having to often speak in front of large crowds, and to reassure smaller kids, means that Luis quickly got more self-confident. Or atleast, he seemed to. He’s still very much afraid of how little it seems that he can change the world.

    Background:
Luis was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil to his Brazilian air force pilot father and his American diplomat mother. Unfortunately, his parents divorced when he was about 5 and so he spent the majority of his childhood bouncing between New York and Sao Paulo. It wasn’t until he was 13 that his mother actually claimed sole custody of him, finally making him live permanently in the US. Some part of Luis has always worried that the only reason his quite professionally focused mother wanted him to live with her was as some kind of trophy. Something that she could parade around to her friends and mold to her liking. Most of the time he's able to convince himself that it's just a silly thought but he's never brought up, because some small part of him is afraid that it might be the truth...

    Spoiler
    Show
    Age: 16
Aspects: "I won't Let History Repeat Itself!", "Don't you Dare Hurt Them!" Atlas' burden, Atlas' strength; Sucker For A Pretty Face

    Description:
Damian is a rather tall lad at a height of 6'2, weights 190 pounds, and rather muscular at that. This is mostly due to him being a physical nut. Growing up in California Damian spent almost all of his time out of the house and in the sun. This is the reason he is so deeply tanned and has beach-blonde hair. If you were to look at his face you would see that he almost constantly has a smile on his face that seems impossible to remove.

His most worn set of apparel is an orange muscle shirt with the black printed words 'Guardian Angel' on it. He also wears black cargo shorts and red and black running shoes. His final pieces of clothin include two accessories. A red sports armband and a silver necklace that belonged to his father that he almost never takes off.

    Personality:
Damian is a pretty happy go lucky guy. He would smile at everyone on his way to school or the gym and he would make sure to spend time with his 5 year old sister Sam when he wasn't doing anything else. However the most prominent thing about Damian is his kindness. Kindness that would lead him to help old ladies with their groceries or occasionally give a kid some money for candy. However, like most things there is a duality to this nature of his. That being that everyone knew that Damian had a rather nasty temper.

Of course he could get angry if you pressed to much but Damian got truly furious, nigh animalistic, when he saw people hurting others. Damian could ignore or laugh off most things done or said to him, but if some innocent or a friend of his was hurt because of someone, said someone was likely to turn up with several broken bones. It is thanks to this part of him that Damian's school doesn't have many bullies. However it has soured his reputation and made his selection of friends slimmer

However there is a reason for this behavior. It's not just out of control anger, or a desire to fight. Damian truly wants to be the kind of man his father would want him to be. To accomplish this he tried to change and mature from the brat he once was into someone to be proud of. His father's memory motivates him, however there is also genuine desire to help others after being unable to help the time it mattered most. He never wants to see someone hurt again if there is anything that he can do to help. It drives him ever forward towards what he thinks is right. This has caused him to take on his father's 'actions speak louder than words' mentality in those situations.

However, it is this exact behavior that shows how much his father's death still rattles him to this day. To the point that he often considers himself and his needs less important than the needs of others. His mother is worried by this mindset but doesn't feel that she could change his mind about how devoted his is to the betterment of others, including herself.

However for every negative, there is a positive. Damian cherishes every moment he spends with other people. Having taken his father's presence for granted simply because of the type of person he was, Damian seeks to learn from his mistakes and never repeat them. For Damian there is no such thing as a wasted moment as long as it is spent with people you care for.

    Backstory:
Damian wasn't always the kind and helpful person he was today. When he was young he was actually rather selfish and spoiled. He still surfed and exercised a lot because he loved doing anything and everything physical.

His mother was a strong-will woman who Damian inherited some of his personality traits from. She was warm and sometimes stern individual, but she always had a soft spot for Damian which is why he got away with as much as he did. She worked at a bakery shop where she cultivated a love of sweets into Damian. His father was a construction worker and as such was a very strong man. He was quite a taciturn fellow, only speaking when it was important. However he showed his love for Damian and his mother through the actions he took for his family.

Despite this Damian didn't interact with his father much due to being out and about all the time and not knowing how/wanting to talk to him. After all there were much better conversation partners outside. However he would always love his father just as he did his mother. However one day everything changed when he and his father were grocery shopping and they took a short cut home when he was ten years old.

It was a beautiful day as usual and the grocer wasn't that far so they decided to walk to it. As they walked through an alley they were surrounded by a group of thugs. They said that they didn't want trouble. Just the groceries and all of the money in Damian's fathers pocket. Seeing as they were armed with knives and Damian was with him his father agreed to their terms. They said didn't want any trouble...they lied. As soon as their backs were turned to leave the alley in a hurry Mr. Rosier was stabbed in the back. With that he though his body out as wide as he could to protect Damian, telling him to run and get help. Damian could only watch in horror as more of the thugs stabbed his father, trying to get past him and to Damian. "GOOOOO!" Were the final words he heard from his father as he turned and ran for help.

It was a few minutes later that he returned with police officers to find his father stabbed in multiple places and the miscreants responsible gone. Though by the blood trail that didn't belong to his father, he didn't go down without a fight. A small service was held for his father consisting of their family and a few friends. After the funeral Damian spent time in his without going out for two weeks a record and quite worrying for his mother. She talked to him every day to console him about how it wasn't his fault and that no one could have done anything. "What do I do now? I don''t know what dad would want me to do. I can't ask him anymore."

These words prompted a small smile from his mother as she softly stroked his hair and hugged him tightly as she said, "It will be alright. The pain will lessen but will never go away completely. As for what he would want? Well that's obvious. He would want what he always wanted. For you to become a good man." That day, marked the beginning of Damian's transformation into the man he is today. 'I will not fail again. I will protect others! I'll become a great man, one worthy of respect. I'll become a man that father can be proud of. I'll never forget this day. Never!'

Years later Damian has moved to Seattle with his mother. The sweet shop that she worked at transferred her to one of their branches there. she took the job since it paid better and she got a promotion to store manager. She was also glad to take it because it gave Damian a fresh start to make friends who weren't afraid of him. This is where the story begins.

    Description:
Jack is an average boy - he’s not very tall, skinny, strong, or good looking. If anything, he’s the national average - perfectly ordinary. He has dark eyes and messy blonde hair. On most days, he’s dressed in jeans and t-shirts, work boots, or sneakers. He has a laptop in the beaten old canvas bag slung over his shoulder, from which he does his blogging and homework.

    Show

    Personality:
Jack is hyper-active, naïve, and impressionable. He loves to learn about new things, and is a faster study than you’d think from looking at him. The truth is, he’s near the top of his class - the only thing holding him back is his abysmal attention span. Once he’s got the hang of a subject, it’s time to start ignoring teachers and start researching on his own.

It’s that same independent streak that makes him a chore to deal with. He has his own way of handling problems, and he doesn’t like having to do things any other way. This makes him an outspoken opponent for any would-be leader, regardless of the circumstances.

Finally, Jack has a protective streak a mile wide - he’s always the first to shoot down bullies and jerks, and he doesn’t have any qualms about letting things get physical. Still, he’s no expert fighter; his only real strength is his stubborn refusal to let anyone else have their way (especially when it means admitting he was wrong.)

In short, Jack is smarter than he looks, doesn’t like to back down, and always tries to stand up for the little guy. Or, to put it another way, Jack looks dumb, is a stubborn jerk, and gets in reckless fights he could‘ve avoided. It all depends on how you look at it.

    Background:
Jack is the son of a prominent scientist, who was doing amazing things with advanced synthetic intelligences before his untimely death. In fact, the computer and bag Jack carries now belonged to his father - he’s already cracked most of his dad’s research material, too, barring one partition he still can’t open.

He’s lived with his elder sister in their big city flat for the last two years - ever since his father’s unfortunate plane crash. His mother, sadly, has been dead for a very long time, and his sister Catalina is the only family he has left. He goes to school, hangs out in coffee shops, and spends most of his free time reading his father’s research - most of it is way over his head, but the things he can understand are brilliant, way ahead of anything in the books.

He knows that he’s close to understanding his father’s work - he’s just missing one detail, one clue that would open everything up for him. And then, when everything has been cleared up, he can finish it.

    GUIDELINES
This game is mostly freeform, though we are going to add a few loose mechanics to it. Whenever you post, you can:
    • Have your characters undertake non-dramatic or uncontested actions.
    • Have your characters attempt actions that are contested or have a significant failure chance and interesting consequences. I handle whether these actions succeed or fail, so you would cut off before the action is resolved (typically where you'd roll dice in a tabletop RPG).
    • Create nameless NPCs (extras), and direct/interact with them as you please.
    • Create or embellish minor details that I don't provide. Is there a tree nearby that you can climb? Unless I specifically called this out as a featureless plain, sure, why not.

With approval from me, you can:
    • Provide information/exposition. If you ask an NPC something, or your character has knowledge that you don't, and I don't feed you something specific, you can make up stuff.

By spending a Metapoint, you can:
    • Invoke a relevant Aspect, allowing you to decide the results of your action for a post.
    • Override me when I compel an Aspect, or ignore a negative Aspect on the scene.
    • Create a situational Aspect, and get a free use of that Aspect next turn.
    • Make a subsantial addition or alteration to the setting or plot, outside of what your character could normally control.

    METAPOINTS
Everyone begins each Chapter with three Metapoints, which you can spend as mentioned above. You regain them by letting "bad stuff" happen to your characters, as will be mentioned below. If you end the Chapter with more or less than three Metapoints, they are reset to three, so spend away.

    ASPECTS
Aspects are defining qualities or traits of your characters. A good explanation of them, as well as advice good ones, can be found here. NPCs also have Aspects, though you don't automatically know what they are. Further, situations and places can also have Aspects, which can affect what your characters are capable of doing.

Your human receives four Aspects: one must be related to its Personality; one must be related to its Background; the other two are freebies. These last two don't actually have to be set yet - you can wait until an appropriate situation comes up before you define them, if you choose. Once per Chapter, you may switch out an unused or no-longer-appropriate Aspect for a more suitable one, subject to my approval.

Your Digimon partner receives Aspects, three of them. One is tied to its personality, and can be changed just as your human character's can. The other two are connected its form; which means that when it digivolves, those may change. As with your human's freebie aspects, you don't actually have to decide on the form aspects until your partner reaches that stage of digivolution.

When you post, you can spend a Metapoint to invoke an Aspect; this allows you to resolve your own action, using the Aspect as a justification. You can invoke more than just your own Aspects; if there's a relevant Aspect on another involved character or on the situation, you can use it.

Alternatively, I (or possibly another player) can compel an Aspect, using it to cause trouble for your character. You can either spend a Metapoint to ignore it, or you can allow the "bad stuff" to happen and gain a point for your troubles.

It's possible for your characters to gain temporary Aspects. If your human breaks his arm, he now has a "Broken Arm" Aspect which is going to hamper things until it heals.

    POSTING CONVENTIONS
I encourage, but do not require, posting in third person, present tense, just to keep things easy to read and consistent. If you're more comfortable posting in another format, then do so.

Likewise, I suggest using normal black text for human speech, and colored text for Digimon speech. The important thing is that I (and others) can tell the two apart, so as long as you're consistent, you're alright.

    POSTING SCHEDULE
Expect GM posts at least every other day, more often if everyone's on the ball. With eight people, we really can't afford to stop for longer than that for everyone to respond to my posts.

That said, I understand things come up and that a thread on the internet isn't (and shouldn't be) everyone's top priority. If you don't have time for long posts, then do a short post and don't feel bad. If you don't have time to post at all in the IC, stop by when you can and let us know something's up. As long as we're communicating in some capacity, I shan't ever complain. I will not drop anybody unless they ask me to, but if you disappear for a while or are not around when I need to move things along, I'll steer your character until you're back.

    OTHER
For people who aren't playing and are just along for the ride, feel free to post in this thread.

I am totally unfamiliar with FATE and all of the extra, non-freeform stuff that's being added, so if anyone has any links or resources they could point me to, it would be much appreciated.

I think I'll use Trebuchet MS for Shawn's speech and thought, and some shade of Orange (#FF7518) for Strabimon's.

    1
    Name: Shawn Reinhardt
Age: 14 (Date of Birth: November 18, 1997)
Aspects: Mask of Stoicism, Broken Wings, ???, ???

    Spoiler: Description
    Show

Shawn is slightly taller than average for a boy his age, at five feet and ten inches tall (~178 cm) when standing completely straight, which he usually is. He weighs roughly 130 pounds (~59 kg), with a build that is somewhat wiry and lean from running and hiking, but as he is still a young teenager, he does not have much in the way of muscle tone. His skin has begun to tan from the amount of time he's spent outdoors ever since moving to his new home in Seattle proper, though he still appears somewhat pale when not in natural sunlight.

    Spoiler: Personality
    Show
Calm, thoughtful, and soft-spoken, Shawn believes that the only stability he will ever have in his life is that which he makes for himself.

    Spoiler: Background
    Show

    Partner: Strabimon
Aspects: ???, Quick as the Wind, ???

    Spoiler
    Show
Personality: Brave, free-spirited, and fiercely loyal, Strabimon is possessed of a healthy, if somewhat restrained, joie de vivre. As dangerous as the Digital World is, he lives every day of his life without regrets, as if every moment were his last - which it very well could be. His wanderlust keeps him from staying in one place for very long, though, truthfully, a settled life is no safer than one on the road, even if it means that there are nights he goes hungry or days when he has no shelter from the harshness of the weather. In spite of the difficulty, Strabimon finds joy in the even simplest of sensations: the feel of the wind as it rushes past him, the sweet taste of clean water, the thrill and the fear of fighting for his life. Strabimon believes that the difficulties of life accentuate its joys by contrast and, while he is not a blind optimist, he refuses to let his spirit be crushed by the hardship of his existence. At heart, Strabimon is a survivor, and survive he has.

It's not so much FATE as FATE-like trappings. You have a handful of character traits, you spend points to leverage those traits into your advantage and override me, you get points when you let those traits distinctly disadvantage you. Other than that, it basically works like every other freeform PbP.

    Hurray, it's here!
For font/color I will be using Comic Sans Georgiafor my speech, and Wormmon will be using "Green (#1A6600)" for his text.
    And as for aspects (expect this to change, still thinking on better ones);

    Description:
    Spoiler
    Show
Thomas is a 6'1" teenager, with a light brown hair, cut short and spiked at the front, and has dark green eyes.

    Personality

    Partner: Wormmon
Personality: Wormmon is a talkative little digimon that loves to be honest with everyone. He can be annoying and sometimes quips at people when they are not listening. He is also very jumpy, and can be quick to judge. He is however a really nice digimon that tries his best to be a good friend to Thomas, despite his quietness.

    Spoiler: Character Sheet
    Show
    Name: Luís Raposa Romero

    Age: 17

    Spoiler: Description
    Show
Luis is a tall and lanky kid, just a hair under 6’ but not very muscular for his size.

    Spoiler: Personality
    Show
Luis is, more than anything, a product of his environment.
And the way he was often treated as a plaything by his mother, a trophy to wheel around and show off to her friends, certainly didn't make the young boy feel any more incontrol of his life.

    Spoiler: Background
    Show
Luis was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil to his Brazilian air force pilot father and his American diplomat mother.

    Partner: Chama (Portuguese for Flame)
    Spoiler
    Show

Personality: Chama seems to be the polar opposite of his partner. Whereas Luis lacks self-confidence, tries to avoid fights and to keep to himself, Chama seeks out danger and believes that he can never fail. The fire digimon seems to think that a day spend without running in terror or fighting for survival is a day you might as well have wasted.
He's also incredibly personable, in a very different way from Luis. Chama's approach to talking to just about anyone that he wants to befriend is somewhat akin to a kindergartner's, running up and saying 'Hey, you seem cool! Wanna be Friend?' The normally reserved Luis is constantly astounded at how well this usually works.

The two things that Chama and Luis seem to agree on are that:
    1. Food is great, the spicier the better, and
    2. That anyone picking on someone else, especially someone weaker, needs to be taken down a peg.

    Damian speaks in Navy

    Name:Damian Rosier
    Age:16
    Spoiler
    Show

Description: Damian is a rather tall lad at a height of 6'2, weights 190 pounds, and rather muscular at that.

Personality: Damian is a pretty happy go lucky guy.

This has caused him to take on his fathers's 'actions speak louder than words' mentality in those situations.

Backstory:Damian wasn't always the kind and helpful person he was today. When he was young he was actually rather selfish and spoiled. He still surfed and exercised a lot because he loved doing anything and everything physical.

His mother was a strong-will woman who Damian inherited some of his personality traits from. She was warm and sometimes stern individual, but she always had a soft spot for Damain which is why he got away with as much as he did. She worked at a bakery shop where she cultivated a love of sweets into Damain.

    Rookie:Liollmon
    Champion:Liamon
    Ultimate:LoaderLiomon
    Mega:BantyoLiomon

    Attribute: Vaccine

Personality: Saber is a fighter through and through. However he does not fight the innocent because there is no honor in that and he does not pick on the weak. He views it as the duty of the strong to protect the weak otherwise what is the point of being strong. He never backs down from a challenge not even to digimon of a higher level than him. He is a steadfast friend who will never abandon those he cares about under any circumstance. He hates to see those who are powerful abuse their power or use it to pick on the weak.

This way of thinking is because Saber sees himself as a symbol. digimon of the Leomon family often are seen as courageous, loyal, and righteous. However even with all of that Saber's species is dying out. With out his honor, Saber only has his shame from having to scavenge to survive. His pride is fragile and he does not take it being sullied lightly. If he can become something greater, then no matter what he was more than just another dying out digimon species trying to survive. He becomes something to be remembered. Something immortal. Not just a nobody. Eventually the mindset of a hero engraved itself into his data. He will do everything that he can to be a hero. Otherwise, what is the point of his strength if there is no greater purpose? He. Will. Not. Fall! It is this reason that he sees Damian as a comrade in arms. Both are searching for a purpose to make their life meaningful. Both have found theirs in helping others. Thanks to this Saber believes Damian can be trusted and relied on.

Pepper will be speaking in Royal Blue, as is my wont. Jack will speak in Comic Sans MS because I think it's funny.

    Name: Jack Russell
    Age: 16
Aspects: (I'll have to do this later; I'm in a rush)

    Description:
Jack is an average boy - he’s not very tall, skinny, strong, or good looking. If anything, he’s the national average - perfectly ordinary. He has dark eyes and messy blonde hair. On most days, he’s dressed in jeans and t-shirts, work boots, or sneakers. He has a laptop in the beaten old canvas bag slung over his shoulder, from which he does his blogging and homework.

    Spoiler

    Partner: Pepper (Agumon)
Pepper is a mostly typical example of the Agumon family, except his skin has a pattern of blue stripes reminiscent of Greymon. Pepper, specifically, also wears a pair of goggles over his eyes and blue straps around his sharp claws.
Personality: Pepper makes Jack look positively cool-headed in comparison - he’s so quick to fight, he can pull insults out of seemingly innocuous comments. Tell him he’s wearing goggle, and he’ll accuse you of saying he’s too chicken to leave his eyes uncovered. Tell him it’s foolish to jump a WaruMonzaemon, and he’ll take it as calling him too weak to swat a fly. He has good points too, however, and he’s the first to pick up a friend or shield an ally.

Just as protective as Jack, Pepper is intensely loyal, almost to the point of blind faith. However, Pepper is terrible with computers, and he has a hard time grasping new concepts. He’s an ideal foil for his partner - just similar enough to draw comparison, and just different enough to make it stick.

Name: Mic (real name: Mitchell Norris)
    Age: 13-14ish
    Digisign: Yellow (Ingenuity)

    Partner: "Black" Rose
    Personality:
Possessed of a rather overt flair for the dramatic, Rose (who only allows Mic to call her that; everyone else simply must use Black Rose) is an impish loudmouth who tries to convince the world around her that she is an elegant (yet feminine) bad-ass. While she is certainly adroit, she's too attention hungry to really come off as classy or with much poise, and is weaker than most other Gatomon variants as she lacks a Holy Ring of her own. Her ego's far more powerful than such an accessory, even if her attempts at grace are either poorly thought out or ineffective. Perhaps her pride drives her to overreact or try to hard, but push come to shove her resourcefulness and unimpeded cleverness can, at times, outweigh her blinding selfishness and perceived lack of raw power. Often in times of need or if it's clearly for Mic's sake. No matter how often she tries to charm smarm or trick her way into something she wants, she can be held to her word if she actually gives it.

She has (or will have) a complex relation to her partner, though more often than not berating Mic for his lack of elegance and harping on any perceived lack of manners, but does not rake him over any coals over his outdoorsy activities or really, his passions. She requires a great deal of attention (and patience) from him, but it must be said that at the end of the day she does try to give back the very same and she often goes into a die-hard mode of "protecting" him. Even if it means stealing or lying, or fighting for his sake. It is, to some degree, reminiscent of the cat's relations to its owner in the Puss N Boots fairy tale. But don't tell her that.

    In-Training: Dark Salamon
    Rookie: Darkstripe Gatomon
Champion: Tigrismon (Female, tiger leomon equivalent)

Current plan is for the endgame to be a crossover event of some sort.

Bessebiscut says Seattle, so that's where we'll be. Once he reposts his profile, I'll update the OP accordingly, and the IC thread will go up sometime during the evening tomorrow.

Fine by me. Considering his backstory, either NYC or Seattle would have worked, though for someone whose life has been turned into a train wreck on account of how often he's moved, it would probably have been smarter of the Reinhardts to not make him do it again. So now the party's got at least the one Seattle-area native (in-character, at least; out-of-character, I'm only passingly familiar).

    Also, Comic SAAAAAAANNS!!

EDIT: Biomerging: Y/N? I know I PMed you about it a few weeks ago, but you said you were undecided. Has anything changed your mind since then?

    So, Seattle.

I was curious, in case anyone DID look at the picture of Mic and Black Rose, is it going to be too difficult fitting him in as he's basically 12? Aside from Shawn, the other applicants are at least old enough to drive, but I wanted to figure in how easy it will be to have all these guys hang around...

That's a good question. Here is how I would go about it if I had to solve this problem.

After you find your Digimon Partner, you have thought in your mind "Am I the only one? Is there anyone that can explain what the hell is going on?". You start investigating, trying to find out information while keeping all of this a secret.

Then again, that's why I'm playing, not GMing. Cause I wouldn't know how to solve things like this properly.

I think his question is more about how the group stays together consistently, rather than how the characters are to meet for the first time. While I'm not 100% sure of Washington state law, I'm fairly sure only Bessebiscuit's character is old enough to drive with other, non-licensed minors in the same vehicle; all of the others would be on permits, I think, and can only really drive themselves around. And even that's dependent on the characters' parents letting them drive somewhere without asking any questions.

It would be easiest to just make it an issue of "plot-time", really. Unless there's some dramatic or plot-related reason for one or more characters to arrive late to a battle or other event, it's easier to assume we all arrive at the same time (or within a reasonable span of time), regardless of when exactly everyone left. Unless that's too much of a strain on everyone's suspension of disbelief. :S

    Spoiler: Brief aside:
    Show
If Agent is being particularly true to the "Tamers" theme, then meeting up for the first time is simply a matter of answering the question, "How many other people are actually running towards the weird rampaging monster-thing/erupting cloud of fog that can be seen halfway across the city and is making my digivice go haywire?"

You'd need to wait for tonberryking to come back online and clarify what he meant. I'm only guessing at his meaning, myself.

At any rate, I finished revising Shawn's background to fit the new starting location. All that's left are... Aspects. And I still have no clue how to make good ones. Or even how they're supposed to work in actual play. I guess the only way I'm going to learn is by doing, so I'm just going to leave most of them blank until I get the hang of this.

Mostly I was asking how we could be "hanging out" together, but I assumed that we would be doing so before getting a free digimon. Afterwards, I'm fairly sure we would have the impetus to gather and discuss what the hell's going on.

Maybe all of the characters could be going to the same high school? They're all in the right age range (14–17), with Barrett (23) being the only exception, but I'm sure something could be worked out. If it's even necessary that our characters all know each other prior to the whole Digimon thing.

EDIT: Relevant wiki link, should you be considering the above idea: Seattle Public Schools (school district)

Actually, I just looked up the laws. To have a license you need to be 16, but for 12 months after you get your license you can't drive between 1am and 5am, and you can't have more than 3 passengers under 20 years old (aren't family). So, the youngest you could be and still have a basically fully functional license is 17.

and as for how we all know each other, high school could work, but honestly, I don't remember half of the kids from my high school. Maybe we're all in a specific club together? That way we'd probably know each other's name at least.
Not sure how to fit Barrett in there though...

I'd actually prefer New York but whatever.

    Spoiler
    Show
Name:Barrett Oliver Barron. Goes by Barrett or Bob
    Age: 23
    Digisign: Empathy
Description: Barrett stands at a ripped and ready 6'1'' and 230lbs. With brown shaggy hair and well trimmed beard, he's Canada's finest. Well built but not overly massive. He tend wears a flannel shirt, jeans of varying color (normally torn or frayed in some way), and his ever dependable boots.
    Spoiler

Personality:Barrett is fairly cynical, with little interest others.

Background: Barrett was born in Ottawa, Canada to a lumberjack father and hippie mother. His fare finally ran out in Seattle He's currently working as a bouncer for sports bar at Rookies Bar & Grill and desperately trying to get a spot on the Thunderbirds.

    Partner: Yogi
Personality: Yogi is laid back and chill. He’s not easily excited and rarely let’s thing get to him. He not lazy, he just satisfied with what he's got.He helps balance out Barrett’s more cynical nature and gruffness with a more positive vibe and good energy. To put it simply:The bear abides.
    In-Training: Tsunomon
    Rookie: Bearmon
    Champion: Grizzlymon
    Ultimate: Korikakumon

    ^ Shush you.

Finally done doing things, but it's 11 here and blarg, so pushing the start to tomorrow. A couple of notes:

    • Transportation is really easy in Seattle; their public transit is pretty darn good. Walking is also a perfectly valid option, and if you decide to disregard subtlety you probably have a monster you can ride.
    • Knowing one another is not necessary, though I'm not discouraging it. The start of the game involves you being trouble magnets; from then on you just have to find the people running towards the explosions while porting stuffed animals.

I don't suppose the characters can use their Digivices to store their partners, like in Savers/Data Squad (EDIT: and Xros Wars)? Or would that be too easy?
