    Post [OOC] Map & Compass

    MAP & COMPASS

    THE STORY

    In-character thread.

They were here to find a war criminal.

General Nathaniel hired them. Their assignment was to capture and bring Lord Damsev back to the capital for judgment, or, failing that, to execute him. Lord Damsev was the mayor of the town of Hewick. Presumably, they could find him there. It was said that Lord Damsev ruled over his subjects with an iron fist. It was said that he oppressed the townspeople from behind the safe walls of Castle Arbhun. Regardless of the truth of these claims, what is known is this. During a feud with a neighboring lord, Lord Damsev led his troops to slaughter a caravan of merchants and pilgrims. When reports of his transgressions reached the capital, the people marched the streets, demanding his downfall. The Imperial Council was, of course, unhappy with Lord Damsev's actions, but sending troops to take Castle Arbhun and remove Lord Damsev from his seat of power would show internal instability. This would hurt the Empire.

The Imperial Army's Special Warfare branch gave General Nathaniel the unenviable task of resolving this situation. Unwilling to allow Lord Damsev to go unpunished, General Nathaniel hired them, and he assigned them to capture or kill Lord Damsev. They were all extraordinary people, and masters of their fields. Their orders were to travel to a small, secret glade, a day's journey from Hewick, at midnight five nights before the Mid-Autumn Festival. There and then they would meet their case officer, Isolde.

They approached the glade at the agreed-upon time.

    Their pasts did not matter.

They were here to find a war criminal.

Alright, passing a spot check on page 45 has me refiguring equipment, but I can easily fluff what I don't have as being in the Lab (which is being almost completely re-mapped to accommodate new abuses of physics) without breaking character.

When that's done, I'll edit everything relevant into this post.

Shall we begin making IC posts?

I haven't actually announced the accepted players. Since the max # of players is 6, and we have 7 applicants, one person is getting kicked out, which is a difficult choice...

Meet Darsha Emberstorm, a wispling monk. With DM's approval, "she will talk like this" and think like this. She is a monk off of T.G. Oskar's Monk Fix.

Flame-haired and and with red eyes reminiscent of a cat, she has a rather strange look for a halfling, even one dressed in monk's clothing and with a cowl gathered around her neck. Slender and poised, she balances on one foot, tapping the other noiselessly, a beat just fast enough to communicate a sense of urgency. She's waiting for something. It's not clear at first, but after she's observed one for a few silent moments, her manner changes subtly. One of two things happens.

1.) She loses interest. This person is not a target, and she puts on her face for "no, really, I do care what's going on." Her muscles relax, and her gaze wanders slightly. Occasionally her hands move toward the weapons on her belt, due to a sudden noise or someone suddenly moving near her.

2.) Her muscles tense and she attacks. Unless ordered otherwise, she usually doesn't bother with attacking someone she doesn't intend to kill.

    Backstory (beware OOC spoilers):
    Spoiler
    Show
Darsha grew up on the streets, after her rather irresponsible parents died or left for good (she's never quite figured that out). In her early teens, she was swept up by some government scouts that were looking for raw talent in people that lacked social attachments.

She had been recruited for a project that involved some rather unethical training by some sketchy agency, with the aim of training a corps of ruthless, efficient killers that could do covert operations and such on behalf of the government. The training was brutal, dehumanizing, and terribly effective from a short-term viewpoint. Unskilled individuals became obedient weapons with minimal ties to the government (or anyone else). Perfect for wetwork and black ops.

Like many such projects, however, it was eventually discontinued. Most of its products were disappeared or liquidated. Darsha managed to escape somehow, and returned to the streets. After laying low for a suitable amount of time, she went freelance, selling her skills for the funds necessary to survive.

I'm looking forward to a good campaign with all of you.

In my dreams, I am currently a druid 20/wizard 10/arcane hierophant 10/warshaper 5. Actually, after giving birth to a galaxy by splitting a black hole, level is no longer relevant.

    Kawashiro Nitori
    Spoiler
    Show

Nitori grew a wanderer, caravan-born. Though her blue hair, short stature, and seemingly unending youth suggest inhuman heritage, the subject simply isn't given much thought.

What is given thought is her passion, Engineering. From working her way into the caravan holdings to examine the golem parts being transported (age six), to getting distracted for three days in the ruins the caravan had stopped at to take apart the doors (age 17), to signing up for an expedition of unknown nature because rumors suggested interesting things might happen on the trip(age 37), she is always looking for opportunities to learn.

Occasionally she will settle down in an out of the way village to take a rest, though it never lasts. Either she gets bored and starts wandering again, looking for something interesting, or the villagers run her off for her habit of putting the local workforce out of a job. Her true home is on the road, wandering from ruin to city observing the world.

For the vast majority of people, Nitori is quick to become a friend, and shows nearly boundless optimism and cheer. It is possible to get on her bad side, but...well, that's a bit theoretical. Rioting with torches and pitchforks was sufficient to get her to move on several occasions, and she spent longer than normal looking over her biollurgy notes following the incident, but even that didn't result in anything bigger than a rival village gaining some new construction.

Probably the biggest things to annoy people is that Nitori doesn't stop to ask before stepping in to help. When she sees someone injured from a fall, she heals them. When she sees a gang of people building a house, if she has nothing pressing to do she'll sit down and spend the next half hour building it for them. This extends to an extent to conversation as well. Nitori does not lie or phrase things to soften the truth, and unless it is abundantly obvious that she shouldn't she will answer any question she hears asked fully and without hesitation.

When she isn't wandering and learning new things...and usually while she is, Nitori tends to fiddle with her projects, whether that be doing research and experimentation, or tampering with the wooden cart so it is closer to iron in durability, or making the numerous pockets of her dresses(She doesn't care if they're dirty, but she's not about to let clothing damage reduce her storage space!) and backpack into minor bags of holding, it's a good bet that if Nitori is anywhere nearby the conventional laws of reality are being disregarded with great vigor.

Presently, she is following rumors that a significant source of funding can be had by helping to remove a minor lord that overstepped his bounds from power. Such funding will be useful if the latest development in construct creation pans out, or at the very least will allow the hidden workshop to be finished a bit more easily.

    Generator:
This small silver ring outputs a constant flow of puissance, at a rate of one ebb per turn. It contains a semi-space, which contains six cubic feet of biostructure connected to a silver arcanodynamic transformer.

    Principles: Yggd 101, Bioy 101, Huer 101, Arcd 101
    Materials: Silver ring(3 gp) + 6 ft^3 wood (6 cp) + 1 ft^3 silver (3250 gp)

    Cubic foot of Silver:
Because that's a bit too expensive otherwise...

Principles: Alch 286 (243 gp to 2187 gp)
    Materials: 1 ft^3 iron (49 gp)

    Air Filter:
A twisting mass of fluted wood, alternatively sucking in and blowing out air. Air passing through can be converted between several gasses at a rate of 1/24th of a gallon per second.

    Principles: Bioy 101
    Materials: 1 ft^3 wood (1 cp)

    Sustained Orthogonal Engine:
An engine connected to an infinite fuel source. The generators are still expensive, but if that can be solved transport will become much easier.

    Principles: Eldk 101, Huer 101
    Materials: 1 ft^3 iron (49 gp), 2 generators

    Personal Breathing Apparatus:
A mask that provides its wearer with air. Usefull for moving in hazardous environment.

    Principles: Yggd 101
Materials: Air Filter, airtight mask (10 gp; ad hoc)

    Transporter(focus, focus)
A bend in space, five feet in radius, that allows for instant transportation. This is typically linked on one side to a coin and on the other to a location, typically a transporter hub, but any two locations or objects can be linked.

    Principles: YGGD 198
Materials: Location (free-????gp), object (???? gp)

    Optical Camouflage:
A small device, one of Nitori's specialty constructions. These devices are tuned specifically to their users, rendering them and their equipment unable to be sensed by sight, sound, smell, touch, or taste. This version does not account for environmental details, so grass will still bend and dust will still displace. The device is activated by withdrawing it from its semi-space storage, and deactivated by dropping it in the same.

    Principles: IMCH 101, IMCH 167, YGGD 101
Materials: Pouch of Holding, Object (as object)

    Advanced Optical Camouflage:
An enhanced version of the Optical Camouflage, which dynamically adjusts its illusion to account for changes made. This device still isn't perfect, since alterations still occur. They are simply hidden by the illusion, appearing once it passes. This class of device is not yet complete, though research suggests that it may be shortly.

    Principles: IMCH 228
    Materials: Optical Camouflage

    Transporter Hub:
This stronghold space is used to hold several transport spaces, commonly linked to marked silver coins.

    Materials: Transporter (6), Stronghold Space

    Messenger:
A variant of the Transporter, consisting of a pair of linked scrollcases. Work is still in progress to allow for an alert when a message comes in...

    Principles: YGGD 198

    Spoiler: Description
    Show

The Lab is located under a small lake, which occasionally belches clouds of suffocating fumes. These death clouds have claimed many a settler's life, as evidenced by the destroyed settlements in the region.

The presence of so many deaths has slightly cursed the land, leading the dead to rise on their own. Necromancers will occasionally take up their craft near Death Vale, finding the abundant undead to be a useful resource.

The lake itself is slightly acidic, and little can survive within it for extended periods. The lake is barren, and unnaturally clear. At the bottom, hundreds of feet below the calm surface, occasional corpses can be found. They don't reanimate.

The region has rich reserves of mineral, which is what originally brought settlers to the region. Unfortunately, after a most ill-fated expedition to clear out the undead resulting, the region was declared to be too much trouble to deal with.

The deed to the land is currently held by Nitori and Rika Kawashiro, though as no citizens reside there no title came with the deed.

    Spoiler: Entrance
    Show

The sea-side entrance to the lab consists of an illusion with the appearance of the rock that was present prior to the excavation, approximately a hundred feet below the surface of the lake. This illusion exists in the five common senses.

Just below the illusion is a kaleidomantic barrier excluding water and air. If subject to fifty points of damage from force effects, the barrier against water will fail. To reduce vulnerability, the barrier against air is segmented into one square foot panels, and will collapse to a wind of five-hundred miles per hour. The barrier can sustain up to eight-thousand pounds of pressure per square foot.

Once through the barrier, one enters a small entrance hall. A few chairs are here, as well as a firepit and an air filter. Small glass spheres of liquid sunlight light the room, and a bookcase by one wall holds reading material.

On the other end of the entrance hall is a staircase which descends to the Lab's main level, though some debate is being placed towards shifting to a mechanical elevator.

Nitori will speak in blue. Thoughts expressed through italics. Rika is to come soon(TM).

Van'Baelrah will be speaking in my usual hue of purple.

    Backstory
    Spoiler
    Show
Born to parents of mixed lineage, Van'Baelrah was destined for a troubled life. Fathered by an Ogre and given birth to by a Changeling, his early days were spent in the depths of nature as yet untouched by civilization. When he was still too young to remember, a band of Human adventurers came through the area and, mistaking the poor lad's parents for monsters that they had been sent to exterminate, burned the small cottage with the unorthadox family inside. As simple as that, they left to collect the fee that they had been promised for the task. But, as if by some miracle, the babe had been protected from the flames and the rubble, and he was found weak and starving days later by a passing traveler. The traveler, a Druid of Ehlonna, took him in and raised him as her own, and thus saved the young boy from a quick and merciless death.

The years of his childhood passed by quickly, relatively short for the Elf who had found him. Though he came to reject her teachings of worship and magic, Van'Baelrah took rather easily to what he was told of respecting all aspects of nature, from the humbleness of the trees to the ambitiousness of men. And though do to the meager blood of the Doppelganger in his veins, he even learned from the woman to take the forms of the animals of the forest. And so, time went on, and the young boy much too quickly for his teacher became a grown man, ready to set out on his own.

After leaving the elvish surrogate of the forests behind, Van'Baelrah explored the world around him with eager wonder. But, while there was indeed much beauty to be seen, he also came to find pain and suffering. The more he travelled, the more this seemed true. As had been his teachings, he wholeheartedly offered his aid to those he met on the road and in the towns. His appearance frightened a good many away, but there were those that were glad to accept his offer. He found that he enjoyed the feeling of pride and satisfaction that he got from helping those in need, and his efforts soon escalated. Before long, he had taken up mercenary work and would travel from one town to the next, an adventurer only by deed that would refuse payment from some and leave the rest of what he was given to those without. He made a name for himself, his reputation grew, and then it happened...

He was called upon by another. He was to meet with others in a glade, and they were to appose a tyrant.

Eldric Iberhardt Will be speaking in Silver.
    Spoiler: Backstory
    Show
    Five Facts about Eldric
    1. He is from the Gentry of a small state in the Arbonne Empire. As a younger son, he was sent to study at a monastery of the Knights of the Scale. He became a dragonborn as part of the graduation ceremony, when a portion of the class is mysteriously selected to transform.
    2. After leaving, he was assigned a small infantry command, which he was successful with. However, they were sent many miles from home and had no opportunities for re-recruitment. At the end of their tour of duty, Eldric resigned from active duty as he had had enough of war.
    3. He learned to call shades when seeking closure with his dead comrades. At first he thought that he had called them back, but he determined that these spirits were generally long-dead.
    4. Upon his return, his house had passed to relatives. His parents had died while he was in school, and while he was away, his elder brother, Manfred, had disappeared. He was out of contact and it was assumed that he was dead, so his uncle inherited the house. He was still welcome but chose not to stay.
    5. He returned to the monastery and consulted the leaders of his order. He spent two years honing his skills, reflecting, and teaching. A year ago, he left the monastery as a Knight Errant.

    Goals
    1. It would be nice if other members of his Order or of House Iberhardt could come into play.
    2. When he starts to summon intelligent undead, one of them could give a plot hook. e.g. "I was Eric Svalsan, three years ago I was slain for my purse, I will not rest until the Bluenecks gang is dissolved."

    Two secrets about Eldric
    1. The Knights of the Scale or Kots as they're often called, are worried about increasing overseas deployment of their order leading to increased losses and depleted reserves. They worry that there are political interests that would see them marginalized. Eldric has been asked to keep an eye out for any signs of this.
    2. His brother (1 year older) was deeply dissatisfied with his life, specifically, with his gender. He took a large amount of fungible wealth and sought out the Rebirthers, a cult that believes that many people were born in the wrong forms. He was able to pay them to put him through The Ritual of The True Self, which would transform him into a new form, although the exact form cannot be predicted. In Manfred's case, his new form was that of a young (not Young) female silver dragon. She now goes by Alyessa and spends her days in the form of an attractive human or elven woman. Eldric knows none of this.

    Three People
    1. Alyessa as mentioned above. Currently going by Elriss Knollbrook. She presents herself as a wealthy young half-elf from Cantal, and has become a rising light of the local social scene. (exact location is left vague) She has tried to followed his career, and misses him.
    2. Indus Volstack, a Knight Proctor of the Order of the Scale and Eldric's mentor in the order. While Eldric is roaming, this is his direct superior. He is an older man and a wise one. Eldric respects him greatly.
    3. Darfallan Redford is a conman who Eldric crossed paths with a few months ago. Eldric caught him in a scam and caused him to be heavily fined. He would happily inconvenience Eldric if he could do so without major risk.

What would be a good place for him to have served? I'm thinking a somewhat savage, isolated place. The sort of place that was entered through someone's bad decision, and the conflict continued through inertia.

Also, be aware that my order is known in slang as the Kots or scalies, but both of these are somewhat disrespectful.

    Backstory
    Spoiler
    Show
Bachus came from a small country town. He didnt know many things he didnt ask many questions. He just knew that above all else he wanted to become a paladin when he got older. Its all he dreamed about, Until the events that changed his life forever.
The name of his town isn't important, It didnt exist anymore so there isnt really much of a point in saying its name. It probably didnt deem much attention even if it did exist, There was nothing special about it and It was always overlooked by the much larger Cities around it.
Bachus had been sent to hunt. His family had started getting low on meat and his father was in no shape to hunt considering the large gash in his leg from being gored by a large Boar the previous week while hunting.
So Bachus went. He had gotten quite good at it to, traking and following a young Buck that he thought would feed his family nicely. His little sister was starting to get very thin. Hed make sure she got double the amount at supper time.
Having no trouble finding the deer, killing it and preparing it for travel he began his treck home. Itd be much slower of course considering he was carrying quite a heavy amount, there was no way hed allow himself to waste anything, He was taught to always conserve what you can. Humming to himself as he made his way home he couldnt help but notice a faint glow coming from the treeline. He squinted his eyes a little not understanding why itd be so bright when its supposed to be dark, The town wasnt supposed to be so bright. Getting closer His eyes Widened as he finally realized what was happening.
Droping his things he ran with all his strength into the burning town. Running past houses he looked in horror as he saw people fighting for there lives, people dying, and horrible creatures. He had to find his family he had to. As he arrived at his house he could hear the unmistakable noises of struggling and falling furniture. Rushing in side he saw his fathe lying in a pool of his own blood, His greatsword laying next to him, His mother a few feet from him just as dead. He couldnt think. It was to painful to think. He couldnt look away from the site of his parents, Untill he heard a muffle screaming and struggles in the next room.
"Maree" He gasped out. Running to the back room picking up the greatsword as he went. The sight he saw hed never forget in his entire life.
Two men where holding her hands and one was above her they where struggling with her, They wanted to do things with her. That moment Bachus snapped. All thoughts where wiped from his mind as the only thing he could see was blood. He wanted blood. The blood of these men, the men that killed his family, the men that are trying to rape his sister. With an animalistic yell He rushed them, the heavy greatsword feeling as light as a feather. The first man that turned only had enough time to look in shock as the greatsword cleaved through his neck. The two others stood up rushing backwards, trying to unsheath there swords in time. The second man barely got his sword halfway when was sliced open from one side of his stomach to the other, and the last man was able to slice him across the chest. Bachus didnt notice though all he wanted was this mans death and he cleaved into the mans shoulder tearing through bones tissue and his lungs till he met his heart and the man died. Breathing in ragged breaths he looked around for more things to kill. Until he heard light crying. Snapping out of his trance he realized his little sister. Dropping his greatsword he grabbed the sheath that belonged to it placing it on his back.grabbing a backpack with his sisters belongings. He picked her up saying
"Ill never let harm come to you ever again Maree" And he ran out the back door running back into the woods. The paladins from the cities arrived to late. The town was nothing but a burned husk by the time they arrived. That day Bachus swore he never wanted to be a paladin again.
And now 2 years later here he is taking on jobs to pay for his little sisters schooling, housing and making sure that she had everything she could ever possibly dream of. Its all for her. He can never allow himself to put her in danger and he will find the man responsible for what happened to his home.

His mother didnt tell him much about why she gave him the tattoos only saying that they where apart of his heritage and shed tell him sooner or later when she thought the right time. The woods have always made him feel safer, more secure. When he took his sister there during the battle they had come face to face with a pack of wolves. From the fix:
The monk gains blindsense to a distance of 30 feet (defeated by sound), which can be activated or deactivated as a free action (by closing her eyes)
I read that as it is a free action to turn it on or off (by closing the eyes), but that once it is on or off, it stays that way (regardless of if her eyes are closed).

Otherwise, she'd have to have her eyes closed all of the time, since turning it off also requires the eyes being closed, and that would be a truly useless ability.

Note: Darsha is a water monk, and it goes on to say that water monk's blindsense/blindsight aren't defeated by sound.

Phelix, I've played the Water Monk before. In Faircoin's last game, even. The ability isn't useless by requiring you to close your eyes (it's effectively a free magic item), but always-on Blindsight that can't be defeated is too strong for the level. The point of the ability is to be able to feel the movements around you (realize the pun yet?) when something's shut down your eyesight, such as darkness or smoke or similar.

Since it's a free action, Darsha could just blink rapidly...which still probably isn't the point of it.

    I follow the flavor, but

1.) It's blindsense, not blindsight (unless you burn the ki point). Thus, it's a terrible replacement for sight, since you can't actually see anything with it (it just let's you sense the direction/distance of things that sight can't see). That's why I tried to imply that Darsha didn't see Nitori, but rather sensed with blindsense that something strange was going on in the vicinity of the tree.

2.) It's a free action to turn on and off. So, even if you are right, she can activate and deactivate the blindsense every round as many times as she wants, effectively "looking" at everything twice, still a free action, with no drawback, as she also has her eyes open a moment later.

I agree that constant effect blindsight is too strong for this level; luckily that's not what the power grants.

I'd encourage you to compare a detection ability that is occasionally useful to Nitori's invisibility effect that is nigh unbeatable by creatures we are likely to encounter.

EDIT: Furthermore, as blindsense only grants a general sense of location (not pinpointing the creature), once the eyes are open, you still know where the creature is (though it might move, ofc).

In the explanation of the ability, the creator explains

One of the things I wanted to conquer with the earlier Monk was miss chances and illusion-based non-AC defenses. Mirror Image, Blur and Displacement can and WILL be a hassle, and if you're fighting a tier 1 character and expect to be a spellcaster hunter, you'd be out of luck without this ability, unless you...erm, use a magic item.

Blindsense might be kinda weak (unless you work with the Invisible Eye combat style, which has a nice synergy with this ability), but it's no slouch. Just the ability to sense the enemy is surprisingly good enough. However, eventual blindsight gets real good, particularly at the range, since it completely negates the benefits of non-AC defenses barring the Darkstalker feat.
If the eyes must be closed the whole time, what is the point? Because having your eyes closed renders one blind, which causes a 50% miss chance to replace the blur/displacement/miss chance the ability is intended to defeat.

It's not a big deal either way.

I'm not trying to argue. And yes, it's a free action (though Faircoin is always within his rights to pop in and say you can only use so many of those if it's abused). Like I said, I was only nitpickin', and you seemed like you didn't quite understand the ability in your IC post.

    That is all.

Darsha would probably advertise on Craig's List under "Freelance Assassin." So that seems appropriate.

Alright, since this world's fluff is incomplete and malleable, I'm going to provide maybe some ties to established fluff and allow you to generate whatever you want (within reason, of course).

In truth, it was not just a bad decision. It came entirely out of nowhere. That is, the Imperial Council's declaration of war against one of the few sovereign states that did not swear allegiance to Arbonne, the elven kingdom of Erias, benevolently ruled over by Elf Lord Celadan. (Perhaps in a later subplot Eldric may learn why the Council wanted this war.)

Without the Royal Family's support, the Imperial Council was not allowed to mobilize either the Army or Navy. As a result, the Council instead used its political influence to pressure vassal kingdoms and states into sending their troops to invade and occupy Erias. It went as well as one would expect—that is, absolutely terribly. Without the aid of Cantal's dreadnoughts, the relatively low-tech (maybe at most magitek or sword and sorcery) vassals of Arbonne could not successfully combat the hit-and-run guerrilla tactics of Erias' elves.

Eventually, unwilling to face the Imperial Council's harsh punishment for failure, the powerful vassal kingdom of Riovanes (mostly a sword and sorcery place) assigned their elite Order of the Scale to the capture of Elf Lord Celadan. Riovanes' hope was that, by capturing the head of Erias resistance, the absurd war would end, and the Imperial Council would be happy.

Instead, the Order of the Scale found themselves caught in proverbial quicksand.

I'll leave what happens from here up to you, or if you'd like, you may change some of the details above. As I said, the fluff of this world is incomplete and malleable, and you may find yourself traveling to more well-established campaign settings, like Eberron, Planescape, or the Forgotten Realms.

I will try to nail down some past exploits of Darsha. I was intentionally vague starting off, but as she was mostly freelance, she really would have taken any jobs offered at first, but after 4th or so would have been capable of larger jobs than "kill Mr. X."

This seems prudent mostly to guide role play, but also to establish what amounts to a story hook (stuff she'd take interest in due to history) and what stuff she'd just gloss over.

    Spoiler
    Show
1.) Early jobs: Knocking off first born sons in inheritance disputes, "resolving" political rivalries, hunting bounties (which she wasn't very good at, due to a lack of tracking and social skills).

2.) Hard to reach people. Darsha is good at infiltrating and elminating. She learned to use her Change Shape ability to get close enough to a target to bypass defenses and deliver the lethal blow.

3.) Eventually, Darsha was forced to work in small groups in order to pursue greater challenges without being downright suicidal. Typical targets were: creatures infesting the main city (like sewer clearing), bandit camps, and the like.

    And that about covers it.

Just wanted to establish that now, to avoid retconning in the future. Change details as you see fit, faircoin. As a soldier of fortune, she really took whatever work paid that could be accomplished by her skill set.

Haha very true. Well Faircoin you can Title Bachus "Beast".
    Spoiler
    Show
He never chose this name, in fact he kind of hated it's origin. The truth is that During the war he was Prone to fits of rage during battles usually resulting in him jumping into the middle of groups of soldiers and killing anyone who dared try to fight him until he calmed down. The reason for this was because every time he fought hed return to that base animalistic angry side of him, the side that would scream out in fury, the side that was created on the day that his parents died and his sister was nearly raped. The thing that fed his rage the most was "What if i was later? What if I had decided to take that rest? what would have happened to her? The resulting thoughts would create an explosion of rage within him. His battle cries during these times was frightening causing nearby soldiers to shy away from him in fear. This Title was given to him by the soldiers in his camp and it would travel by word of mouth and eventually make its way to the enemy camp.

They where told of this man with tattoos on his arms, this Barbarian...this Beast who would enter a battle rage not caring for his wounds or his life who would move almost as if in a blur cutting people down in front of him as the people further in the back would hear his roars and go pale as theyd whisper "The Beast is here" causing the message to travel through the ranks unsettling some soldiers and panicking others.

Bachus Detested the name but he never attempted to get rid of it. It helped give his side an edge against better and sometimes larger forces by causing them fear and fear can be the most dangerous of weapons at times.
When not in a rage he is very calm and quiet but well mannered and polite. He was always taught to be polite and show respect to those that deserve it.

there you go Faircoin you wanted a new title you got one :P
The others do not truly know of Bachus's title just that his name is Bachus. They can of course with some digging of information find out. Hes not trying to hide it. It's just a little difficult trying to find out who the owner of this title really is with pretenders and false descriptions going around.

This could cause a moment in the campaign where they pass an area and find a pretender going abouts creating a confrontation where the other man challenges Bachus "the pretend Beast" to a fight. Or maybe they pass a bar and there happens to be a soldier from the very same war camp at the time causing them to discover his title. etc.....I feel like i write to much sometimes but hey i like writing and now that i think about it this really isnt that much that im writing.

Edit: Ooooh Oooh i just thought of something funny with that second part.

They could be at an inn eating when a man from Bachus's war camp sees him walking up to him yelling out "Beast!! By my eyes It's Beast!! I havent seen you in what it seems like ages!" He of course said this to Bachus but Van'Baelrah was sitting next to him and everyone in the inn but Bachus himself and the other ex/soldier/s assumed the man was referring to the large Half Ogre man beside him. Van'Baelrah could of course take offense, or get angry or disregard it or even make a joke if he likes. I just like how it makes a funny scene when everyone in the inn immediately thinks of the Half-Ogre as Beast because of the various and mostly exaggerated descriptions of him. (Sometimes a huge demon, or a Colossus, or even a man with the ability and muscles to tear a person in two as easily as a piece of paper)

Also if anyone uses detect magic they will see that Bachus's Tattoos are magical in origin even he himself not knowing anything really about them other than there tattoos and they never left scars after healing there , and knowing that his mother gave them to him when he was a child. They give him no bonus nor does anyone know what they truly do for now (serves a purpose) only that they serve as some sort of locking spell, locking something of him away. (This will be revealed through character progression and if i can actually figure out how the hell to multiclass and LA and ELC etc). Itd be my first and i don't know how really but ill try besides the way i want it to go seems pretty cool to me I can tell you guys what im planning of course if you wish. I think its only fair if you really wanna know. And everyone can vote on it if they wish i wouldn't mind.

Selemyr grew up in a very insulated Gray Elven community. His parents were very traditional and very strict, and when he showed talent with magic at an early age they wasted no time sending him to the proper boarding school. He hasn't seen them in over a century and doesn't know if they still live - it's possible, but they'd be very old, even by elven standards.

You don't get to be a prestigious boarding school for aspiring wizards by only tending to gray elves. Selemyr met members of other races for the first time, and after a few missteps he quickly learned that they were not, in fact, all savage barbarians. He was friendly and popular, and in his years there became a leading member of both the Conjuration Club and Theatre Club. It was also sometime during this period that he became an Initiate of the Faerie Mysteries, and the ancient practices still suffuse him to this day.

Once, during an unsupervised meeting of Conjuration Club, they accidentally managed to conjure a fiend. An imp, specifically, but for apprentice mages that was a big deal. While all the other members ran from the room screaming, he stepped up and took on the role of Thanatos Darkarm, the necromacer in the play he was currently acting in. The imp left peacefully, but not before he convinced it to use Commune to answer some particularly tricky homework problems. The other students were amazed, and he was set on a course for life.

He still manipulates fiends for the Greater Good, a term now at least slightly more accurate then when he applied it to cheating on schoolwork. He's quite good at it, and still thinks of himself as an actor, just as much as a Conjurer. He tends to underestimate the fiends in his employ, however, thinking of them all as as dumb and harmless as that first imp. The policy hasn't come back to bite him yet, but it might.

That he has ever seen, for that continues even now, a century and a half later. She was a half-elf, which his parents wouldn't have liked, and a fellow wizard, as smart and proud as she was stunning. Her thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. It was she that introduced him to the Faerie Mysteries, and she that initiated him in them. With all the vast mysteries of the arcane he was learning to comprehand, it was she that made those years unforgettable.

As a half-elf, she'd be dead now. Unless, of course, she became some kind of lich or vampire or other undead monstrosity. But what are the odds of that?
