The Aynweir region lies in the far south-east of creation, marking itself as perhaps the most distant satrapy controlled by the Realm. A region of little worth and even less importance, the Realm's presence has ever been light here. To the south-east lie the bordermarches, and the things that lurk within it have ever been a threat to the peace, mounting periodic raids. It is these raids that prompted the land's ruler to willingly submit his kingdom to the Realm in ancient times, desperate for support in holding back the barbarians and monsters. The realm's military has been scant, even at the height of it's power, but recent events and the looming Realm civil war have left the region defenceless.

It all began when the former satrap finally died of old age (or very subtle poisons) and was replaced by a keen-minded young terrestrial whose pointed observations had managed to earn him enemies among the empress' court. Far more observant than his predecessor, he soon uncovered a subtle hand at work in the region's politics. After much careful investigation he found evidence that a dreadful lunar anathema had been manipulating the politics of the region for centuries! What's worse, this malevolent entity was the lord of the barbarian tribes to the south-east, their raids a carefully planned move in his ongoing designs.

With this terrible new evidence he wasted no time in calling upon the Wyld hunt, calling in favours and dredging up old skeletons to ensure that his call was answered. To back this hunt he also marshalled the region's military, having exposed the king as a pawn of the monster and taken temporary stewardship of the lands. The war against the beastmen tribes and their anathema master was long and bloody, but in the end the venerable monster was slain and the survivors returned home.

But few indeed were those survivors. Of the men at arms who had previously comprised the nation's military, but one in every three returned to his family. The rest lay dead upon wyld-tainted battlefields, where no sane man would venture to grant them their proper rites. Among the courts things were no less lessened, many an important noble or official having been revealed as the anathema's agent, many warp and mutated into inhuman monsters by his fell magics. Even the valiant satrap who had revealed the plot had fallen in the conflict, and no replacement has yet arrived from the realm.

So it stands. It's borders defenceless, it's leadership broken and it's economy crippled by the aftermath. But there are yet some positives, at least for you. With the Realm's presence withdrawn and the government on the verge of complete collapse, there is little care paid to strange travellers such as yourself and you could do so much in such a place...

Spoiler: If you've been talking to the Lunars...

Aynweir has always been the pet project of Ten-Masks Canny, an old Deliberative era Elder. He's been tweaking and moulding it for centuries, trying to create his ideal society. Except recently some dragonblood got lucky and figured out what was going on, called down a wyld hunt. He put up a fight, but in the end both Ten-Masks and his allies were wiped out. A pity, old Ten-Masks was one of the good ones. You know, the sort that really took the 'defending creation' bit seriously, without coming of as sanctimonious or self-righteous.

Can't help but wonder what will happen with him gone.

    Spoiler: If you're a Sidereal...

You really shouldn't have said that to Chejop. Now you're stuck cleaning up this gigantic mess out in the south-east. Apparently the realm got into a big pissing match with a Lunar Elder and got everyone killed. Not just mortals either, though there were plenty of threads cut that shouldn't have been, but gods and elementals too. What's worse, a lot of the dead were never given proper burials, resulting in new shadowlands filled with hungry ghosts. You're pretty sure somebody released a bunch of unbound demons too, just to make your job that much harder.

The paperwork just keep growing. Maybe you can do something on the ground to at least keep things from getting worse...

    Spoiler: Aynweir Region
    Show
Aynweir sits on the overlap of several different types of terrain. The east of the country is bordered by the summer mountains, broken by a number of minor rivers that feed from the grey river to the north. The north of country is mostly savanna and rocky plains, though greener places persist, particularly to the east. Things gradually grow more desolate as one ventures south, eventually giving way to rocky deserts and endless seas of sand. Vegtation is more dense towards the east, including a few small areas of swamp and rainforest where the grey river crosses the summer mountains.

Aynweir's primary industries are it's steel manufacturing, which is considered of high quality even in the blessed isle, and the rare creatures and plants native to the neighbouring borderlands. Many of these plants have spread to Aynweir itself, which cultivates and exports large quantities. There are also a number of mines, both for the raw materials to supply their famous steel works and a minor trade in precious gems.

Agriculturally, Aynweir is self-sufficient. Livestock herders are the most common source of food to the south, while the more fertile northern plains produce much of the country's fruit and vegables.

There are three main cities. The northern-eastern capital, which shares the name of the region, is both the seat of the government and the centre of the steel and gem trades. It is a stepped city, built into the side of a mountain sometime during the early shogunate. Slightly larger than the capital, Tissuc is the second major city of the region and lies to the west of the nation. It is famous for it's markets and festivals and is built alongside one of the minor rivers of the region. Norgen is the final major city and found to the south-east, serving as both the centre of the network of fortresses the ring the border with the Wyld and a hub for the hunter guilds that brave it in search of rare and valuable creatures.

Geographically, it's most notable neighbour is Harbourhead to the north, though a few lesser and more insular kingdoms populate the largely unclaimed territories between them.

Though few indeed know of it, the 57th celestial gateway lies just within the northern border.

    Spoiler: The 16 Questions
    Show
    1. What game system are you running (D&D, Call of Cthulu, Palladium, GURPS, etc.), and if applicable what edition (Original, Classic, Revised, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, etc.)?
Exalted, second edition. The 2.5 errata is in full effect, get it here if you haven't already.

    2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)?
Standard setting, though some small details may be different due to the TAW lunar rewrite being in effect. Unless your character interacts with a Lunar Elder, you probably don't have to care about this.

    3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many?
However many can manage to post regularly. And by regularly, I mean at least a couple of times per week, preferably more.

    4. What's the gaming medium (OOTS, chat, e-mail etc.)?
Right here on the forums, doing PBP.

    5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)?
    Standard chargen.

    6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with?
    Again, standard chargen.

    7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes?

    8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species?

    9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points?

    10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?

    11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it?

    12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?
We'll be using the forum dice roller here.

    13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules.
As previously stated, the Terrifying Argent Witches Lunar rewrite is in full effect. Unless all of the folks who want to play Lunars say that they'd rather be using the gimped rules Lunars get stuck with in the base game, that is. Not sure why you'd want that though.

Other homebrew stuff may be used subject to my approval.

Ox-Bodies and Excellencies! You get free Ox-Bodies equal to the lower of your Resistance or Stamina.

You get a free Excellency in every Caste/Favoured ability you have at rating 3+. Lunars, you switch Ability for Attribute as usual. On the off chance some chooses to play an Infernal, they get their choice of Caste or Favoured Yozi excellency for free.

Sorcerers! You get a free spell with your initiation.

Craft is one ability. You get one type of crafting when you take it (Fire, Water etc.) and can add extra types for the same cost as specialities. Note that while you may take extra types of crafting using your free starting specialities, they are not actually specialities and do not add dice or count against your limit of no more than three specialities.

Thaumaturgy degrees are purchased as regular specialities if you're an Exalt, rather than at inflated, charm-like prices.

Sidereals! You're using the Simplified Sidereal Astrology rules hack from Shards.

Similarly, anyone who might hypothetically choose to play an Abyssal is using the resonance rules hack from Shards as well.

Everyone pays Solar prices for their charms/spells etc. This does not apply to SMA or Colleges. Knacks are 8xp.

    14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)?
Yep, I'll want to at least have a short summary of a background before you even start posting your stats. Doesn't need to be much, just a line or two, but I've had people post stats, say they'll write up their backstory later and then never do so.

As previously stated, everyone needs to be in the same place at the start of the game too - not too fussed which direction, but if everyone could settle on one that'd be great.

Also, if everyone could make an effort for their characters to A) be okay with working alongside everyone else's (IE no Immaculate hard-liners) and B) at least vaguely interested in saving the world and being heroic. No sociopaths likely to say 'so what?' when told the world needs saving, please.

    15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above?
Some fighting, some statesmanship and nation-building, some being-very-clever-and-outwitting-your-foes. Pure combat monkeys are not advised, but similarly so are pure socialites. Try to at least be able to contribute in most circumstances.

    16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters?
All published materials, barring the Scroll of Heroes and Wonders of the Lost Age. If you want Magitech or Merits/Flaws, I will have to approve those on a case-by-case basis. Aegis-Inset Amulets and Gunzosha Armour for the Ex-Gunzosha Commando are likely fine, trying to start out with twinked out Celestial Battle Armour without a really good reason is not.

    Players:

If everyone could post up their character sheets so I can link to them, that'd be great.

IC thread to come, likely starting in Aynweir city on the edge of the Summer mountains, a little north of where the grey river passes through them. It's up.

“Little boy, Little boy, Lost in a storm.
Little boy, Little boy, Whom the world did scorn.”

Once upon a time there was a boy, and unwanted boy. He does not know why he was unwanted, what it was about him that made his father and mother whose faces he never saw turn from him. He does not know what was so terrible about him that they could not love him, and he does not know why the world seemed to reflect that sentiment.

Once upon a time there was a town, with strict laws of heredity and inheritance. In that village was a man who could not control his baser urges. The man cheated on his wife, frequently. Though usually careful one night he wasn’t and as a result his mistress grew heavy with child. The man was rich but the towns laws were strict and he already had an heir and a wife to care for. If he was ever found out he stood to lose most of his fortune, so he paid off his mistress to keep her mouth shut. But eventually the baby came, and he couldn’t hide anymore. Instead he strangled his mistress with his belt as she gave birth, leaving his buckles mark on her neck. It stormed that night a terrible onslaught of wind and rain, And tossed her body in the river for the crocs to devour. But even this man couldn’t bring himself to kill his own child bastard or not. So he left the baby swaddled in rags taken from his mothers home, sitting on the doorstop of an Immaculate Mission.

Once upon a time there was a baby left on the doorstop of a Mission, the monks therein were to spread the word of the Immaculate faith and the power of the realm. The baby was willful and cried for it’s mother. They fed and clothed him as he grew among the monks the baby became a willful boy. Defiant and angry, the Monks tried to beat the willfulness out of him but even they could only calm him for so long. He was tormented at night, screaming about a woman standing by his bed, a terrible bruise on her neck and blood on the bottom of her dress. The boy couldn’t know that the woman meant him no harm, it was just a mother who wanted to watch over her son after all. She kept pointing to the mark on her neck, the odd symbol that seemed imprinted on her ghostly flesh. But the child was too scared to look.

The boy didn’t fare any better with those of his age, he had no name and the ones the Monks tried to give him he rejected. So he called himself Jokashi it had no real meaning he just liked the sound of it. The other children treated him poorly, though to be fair Jokashi didn’t try too hard to make friends either. He spent his days either avoiding the others so he wouldn’t get beat up, he never fought back he just took it. For if he did fight back the monks would scold him for starting a fight, for they never believed him when he said it was the other children who attacked HIM. Not when those families were good about donating, not when those families were favored by the realm oh no. The only children who did treat him well were those rare few from the river tribes who traded fish and goods from the waters and rivers with the town. They brought their young and Jokashi found he got along well with them, perhaps it was a shared contempt for the people of the town. Or maybe something else? Hmmm oh well.

Of all his bullies there was one who was the worst, and his father was no better. His father looked at Jokashi with such raw contempt and hatred that the boy was taken aback and even frightened of it. The man's son mirrored that contempt he couldn’t understand why his father hated the Orphan, but it made him smile when he made life hard for the boy and that is all that some people need to justify their cruelty. Throwing stones at the boy, calling him names, and attacking him in a gang were just some of the transgressions he committed. The boy never attacked Jokashi alone however for the one time he did that Jokashi nearly broke his arm. He was raised by monks after all, and had a talent for the Martial Arts. So he always had others with him.

Jokashi got along well with the River tribes young, and some of them knew things that the towns children didn’t. Like what the woman who visited him at night was, the Monks didn’t believe him because they attended to all the dead to make sure they either didn’t rise as ghosts or to banish those who did. But the river children did believe them, she was a ghost they said their shaman sometimes treated with the dead. They told him that salt would keep her at bay, but they also said that sometimes the ghost is just lonely and sad. That maybe trying to talk to her would help as well. The children and adults also had a faith far different from the Immaculate teachings but were wise enough to keep it to themselves and pay lip service to the Monks from the Realm. They talked about river gods, and spirit courts and other things that really didn’t stick with the physically minded boy. However he did understand the basic concept of animal avatars and gods who guide the flow of essence which affects the world around it. He followed them out of town one day near to the river were the kept their boats. He watched them sail away on the shallow slow moving river down to where the waters flowed faster, he thought saw someone else watching them and taking notes. But he was distracted by what else he saw, crocodiles further down the river near a dusty section of the river where some of the wild game would drink from. Not foolish enough to get close he nonetheless watched from a safe distance.

Animals were in his eyes preferable to people, not that he was ever able to keep pets the monks wouldn’t allow it. That and he was afraid of what his bullies would do to any animal he kept. They already smashed and destroyed what few possessions he had. He sat there watching the Crocs from a safe distance, how they hid just under the water, struck like thunder and dragged their kill under the water to feed. Jokashi saw a mother carrying her young in her mouth keeping them safe and hidden in her jaws. It grew dark as he watched, and he fell asleep atop the hill. He woke with a start he swore he could feel someone touch his cheek, looking up he saw her again that ghostly woman, he backed away and made to run. But he remembered the words of his River friends and he finally really looked at the woman. There was something familiar in her ghostly mein, her nose looked like his her cheeks looked soft as his did. The ghost didn’t speak she wasn’t strong enough for her voice to reach across the veil, but she kneeled and opened her arms to him. Jokashi looked confused but cautiously crept closer, when he was close enough the woman wrapped her arms around him and held him close. It was a cold and clammy embrace from one of the dead but, for him it couldn’t have been warmer. For it was the embrace of a mother to their child, The ghost wept ivory tears and Jokashi spoke a single word which made her sob all the harder. “Mom?”

Once upon a time there was a ghost, the ghost of a woman killed as she gave birth. Her sorrow and torment at never having been able to hold her child the child of the man she loved and the man she now hated dragged her down, she could not hear the call of Lethe for her sorrow rendered her deaf to it’s sweet music. And she lingered forgotten and alone, her only succor the occasional nights she was able to manifest enough to watch her child sleep. But now, now her child knew who she was. And loved her, her son was lonely like she was, and now finally they had met she could not speak from across the veil for their were no shadowlands so close to the town. But she could appear at night, touch him, and could listen to him. His life was not easy, and she wished she could do more but it was enough for him. To simply speak to his mother. But this world is cruel, and unforgiving it has a way of taking that which we love from us.

Jokashi crept out at nights to meet his mother, sometimes near the Crocs he often watched. Other times outside the mission under the moonlight. He talked to her about his day, she seemed concerned about the bruises but he just shrugged them off. He asked her about the odd mark on her neck, it looked like a symbol of some sort. His ghostly mother would shake sometimes with rage other times sorrow when he brought it up so he stopped asking. His talks didn’t go unnoticed however, a certain boy of a certain rich man caught them talking one night. He rushed home and told his rich well off, MURDERER! of a father. His father followed the boy back to where Jokashi and his mother spoke, and the color drained from his face. He recognized her, and there she was talking to the bastard he didn’t have the heart to kill.

Fearing that the ghost might tell Jokashi of his heritage and even worse reveal his crime committed almost 18 years ago. So he did what any bastard would do, the next day he alerted the monks who raised the boy about his ghostly visitations. They had thought it was just the young man’s imagination, hormones can do odd things after all. But now that they had word from a reliable (and rich) source they chose to investigate closely. So they waited where Jokashi usually met his mother. The first night, nothing, the second again nothing, they were about to give up on the third when Jokashi walked out onto the path his ghostly mother manifesting beside him. The monks were horrified that someone raised under the Immaculate teachings would keep the company of the dead. They lept out of their hiding places, Jokashi told his mother to leave as he picked up a stick to defend himself. But she refused, Jokashi was subdued easily the monks had the experience and surprise on their side. He was held down arms tied behind his back, as he watched struggling, his mother did not fight back she couldn’t. Out of salt they made a circle around her, and prepared to banish her. His mother’s ghost was weak and took her time to gather even the paltry strength needed to manifest, if she was banished now it was unlikely she’d ever be able to reform.

Jokashi thrashed about tears streaming from his eyes, he saw someone in the shadows nearby. That same man and son who tormented him so, expect this time something clicked in his mind. The mark, the symbol on their clothes and his belt. It was the same, it was a the symbol of that mans family. And it was on the bruise on his mother's neck, he didn’t guess that the man was his father. But he did put it together that he was his mother’s murderer. And he screamed out as much. “IT WAS YOU! YOU KILLED HER YOU BASTARD!!” Jokashi frothing at the mouth now got loose and charged the two of them, before a monk knocked him out from behind. Saddened that the boy they raised turned out like this, His mother cried out but it was too late. Her last act before being torn apart by their banishment was to burn a look of pure hate into the eyes of the man she had once loved and been betrayed by. And then she was gone.

The monks didn’t know what to do with Jokashi, he had betrayed their teachings and besides he was a rather willful boy anyways nearly 18 he was no longer their problem. The rich man’s son offered to help him. They allowed it and left, while the cruel boy gathered a posse, and carried the unconscious Jokashi away. To the crocs, the same one’s he had watched the same ones that his father had fed his mother's corpse too. They cut his shoulder open to spread the scent of blood and then rolled him down the hill. Some of the others went down to get a closer look, Jokashi awoke in pain as the Crocs closed in. Jokashi looked up at his tormentors the Moon shining full as he felt a crushing bite around his leg. Rage boiled up inside him, they took everything from him, “Don’t worry, you won’t be alone forever your river friends will be joining you soon.” What did that mean? Jokashi screamed and inhuman roar as he was dragged underneath, only...something happened. In his rage he refused to succomb and as he was dragged under he fought his animal attackers, he bit at his would be killer teeth finding a weak space under the crocs jaw. Perhaps it was this refusal to give up, this wild clinging to life that did it, but. It happened, Silver Light lit up the river the crocs swam away as fast as they could, and the men who had thrown him in backed away in fear. Slowly he came up out of the water, blood ringing his mouth, hauling the crocodile’s body with one hand as his form shaped and changed silver and argent essence flowing around him the Full Moon shining brightly on his forehead. The others couldn’t see it, but Jokashi could the Fickle lady in the form of the Huntress welcomed him as he climbed out of the river a wry smile on her face as she looked to his tormentors then she was gone. The ringleader yelled and ran off, with several others. While the Two who had followed him down scrambled to get back up. Jokashi slammed his fist into their backs shattering their spines and leaving them limp. He grabbed their legs and tossed them into the river. The crocodiles ate well.

Once upon a time there was a cruel boy who would have been a cruel adult. However at the age of 18 he went too far, he pushed another boy to far. And now he was being chased, he ran through the darkened streets calling for help as the THING behind him got closer and closer, the others had tried to help him. And he could still hear them screaming as he ran, he turned the corner and was a few feet from his home when he saw one of his friends com running towards him. Why was he wet? Nevermind, they needed to...to...The boy turned around slowly as his friends mouth became a fanged jaw and clamped down on his face. He struggled and screamed, then with a crunch he knew no more.

The cruel boys father walked through his expansive home, drinking wine that no other in the town could afford. He stopped, where those wet footprints on the floor? Leading to his study? The man carefully quietly crept to his door and peered inside, his son’s torn body lay in the center of the room blood already flowing and staining the carpet. A fire roared just behind him in the fireplace. Calling out he ran in and cradled his sons body, the door closed shut with a snap behind him. He turned and saw the bastard Jokashi, only it wasn’t. He had never looked like this. Never so fierce with such a look of anger in his eyes. He wasn’t always so...primal looking was he? Jokashi grabbed the man by his collar and lifted him up off his feet. He demanded to know why, why did they torment him for so long? Why did he kill his mother? WHY! WHY DAMN YOU TELL ME WHY!

So the man told him why, told him about he and his mother. That he couldn’t afford to have a bastard it would have hurt his business and his family. As for making his life hard, he couldn’t stand the sight of Jokashi so he took out his anger on him. According to this man, Jokashi wasn’t even supposed to exist. Jokashi’s anger melted away for a moment and he dropped man in a puddle of his sons blood. He turned his back, all this information was taking a toll on the already emotionally stressed teenager. The cruel man took his chance he grabbed a fireplace poker and lifted it high above him and struck. Jokashi was too fast, he turned grabbed the poker, ripped it out of the mans hands then smashed it into his legs cracking bone. Jokashi didn’t speak, but the man begged for his life as Jokashi removed his belt, wrapped it around his neck. Placed his foot on the mans chest and pulled as tight as he could. Jokashi looked into his eyes as he choked his father to death.

Jokashi disappeared into the night, he knew of only one place he could go. The river tribes, as a crocodile he slipped into the river and followed it. He gained a few other forms in the process fish that got too close. Animals he had to hunt to eat, but finally he found one of the villages along the river. He recognized some of the people, he watched in the form of a crocodile. Wondering how to approach them, when screams started to sound from the village. They were under attack, and Jokashi remembered something ‘You're river friends will be joining you soon enough.’ The attackers were from his former town, they were trying to capture some of the tribal peoples. Maybe as slaves, maybe to take the gems the tribe kept, their source unknown. Among the attackers were also Immaculate monks who had grown tired of the Tribes ‘heathen’ practices. Jokashi rose from the water, forming a hybrid body of Crocodile and man he helped fight off the attackers slaying and ripping his former townspeople with abandon. They had mocked him, kicked dirt at him, and ignored his pain for too long. Now he stood against them, seeing this monstrous Anathema some ran off but the monks stood ready. One of them was exalted by the dragons, and possessed training in an immaculate style. New as he was to his exalted power Jokashi wasn't a match for the monk, it looked as though he would die here and now. But fate was on his side, a tribesman called out during the fight when Jokashi absorbed a blow made more of lighting then of fist. The tribesman and a few others were trying to get something to him, the Immaculate took Jokashi’s distractions and kicked him into the midst of tribesmen. His form returned to normal as he landed, he looked down at what they had been carrying. A pair of Moonsilver Razor Claws. Not questioning his luck, Jokashi simply slipped them on, the monk Paused as he recognized their one time Charge. His confusion was short lived for Jokkashi mirrored his opponents tactics and used his distraction. Shoving the not yet fully attuned razor claws into the monk’s stomach and ripping with all his might. Yells rang out from the remaining attackers who turned and ran. The villagers were kneeling before him, a moon warrior they called him. Long ago one of their own had been a moon Warrior and he had left those claws before he died, with orders that be turned over to another of his kind if one ever showed.

Once upon a time there was a Lunar, named Rivers Run Red. He was young and inexperienced. But he learned fast, he claimed an arm of the grey river which flowed down near the south as his territory. The tribes along it learned to pray to their protector, the spirit courts learned to respect him. And the Raksha learned to fear him. For his part Rivers Run Red refined himself. He learned about what he was by meditating on his nature and speaking with the least gods of the courts. He took the forms of the snake, the Iguana, the Hawk, the gecko, bear, Monitor Lizard, tree frog. and Other minor forms of men. The women of the villages would sometimes offer themselves to him. He declined most of the time, but every man has his needs. And on one of these trysts he mated with her on an undiscovered Dmenese it’s energies mixing with his. So the woman became heavy with child, and his daughter was born a Half-Caste carrying some of his power. He raised her right, and made sure she knew a father’s love.

Now Rivers Run Red or Jokashi as some still know him focuses on his territory, and growing his power. He hunts he protects, he bargains and deals. But something is happening near the end of his river, a new religion, the whispers of the local spirits are ones of worry and trepidation. It is time to investigate, and if it does threaten his rivers, or indeed creation itself he will deal with it as he always does. With tooth and fang.

Appearance - It’s often pointless to describe what a Lunar looks like as they are so mutable. In his true form Jokashi appears as a tall muscular man with tanned skin, green eyes and often wet unwashed black hair. Various tattoos from the tribes who worship him wrap around his biceps and thighs, along with tied bits of colored cord feathers and even teeth of prey animals. His face is painted with a single white stripe across his eyes, and he rarely dresses in anything more than a long loincloth. Though when he has to travel further south he’ll borrow something more appropriate. He is never without his pair of moonsilver Razor Claws.

    Personality
    Spoiler
    Show

Once a meek boy Rivers Run Red has become a strong willed and determined man. He has no patience for liars or bull****, using his charms to know what someone wants then make an offer. He does not use flowery language or double talk, but he does have a natural talent for manipulation, straightforward as it is. He wears his passions on his sleeve, when he loves it is with all his heart and when he hates it is with a fury few can match. He is not cruel or unforgiving however, if he discovers an enemy had a reason for doing what he did he will try to help. As long as they do not try to deceive him, this is perhaps the reason he hates the Raksha who might as well be walking lies who spin yet more lies and tall tales. Though...their women are inhumanly attractive are they not? He loves his Daughter Silver River more than anything and would walk through hell itself to keep her safe.

    Intimacies

    Spoiler
    Show

Rivers of Creation (protection) - Water brings life, the cleaner and fresher the water the more life it brings. Jokashi hunts, lives, and can even breath the waters he swims in he owes the rivers much. Food, forms, and protection. He also consults frequently with river gods on how to best care for the rivers under his protection.

Silver River (Half-Caste daughter Love and protection) - Seeking to be a better man than his father was he treats her well and has given his daughter all of his love and his heart. He raised her himself taught her all he could about survival and combat. Showed her some of his magic and powers, which her nature allows her to use. He is fiercely protective of her something that is beginning to grate on the young woman, who is flowering into adulthood. Silver river is an attractive dark skinned young woman. She wears an upraised collar around her neck hiding her face from the nose down. Long silver and white hair tied into a rough ponytail top her head, she dresses in light leathers to keep cool in their humid environment.

The Wyld (Hate) - The wyld infects corrupts and creates monsters. Jokashi fights to keep the wyld from infecting the rivers and the life it contains. He often has to clean up the monsters it and the Raksha spawn, and there is the threat of what it might do to the people under his care. Though Luna herself might be part of it. He cannot stand it even as he profits from the mutations his prey possess.

Raksha (Fierce Hate) - They are liars, cheats, and ravagers, lies and stories wrapped around ever hungry maws. Jokashi has taught some of the local courts to fear him, but that doesn't stop him. As they write narratives in their souls of trying to slay the river monster, and Jokashi is forced to edit their tales and bring them to an abrupt end. Plus sometimes the fey take forms that combine lizard and water into a form he finds hard to resist. He hates himself for the lust they create in him, even more so for the few times he has given in. Damn the Fey.

River Pirates (Disdain) - Not as bad as the Raksha though only just. They prey upon the tribes under his control. But sometimes the tribes are able to trade with and deal amicably with some of the less volatile pirates. And sometimes they have reason for their actions aside from greed.

Unwanted Children (Kindness) - Jokashi brings any orphans or abandoned children to the villages and tribes and bides they raise them. He does not want to see that same lost look in their eyes he remembers seeing in his own reflection.

Parents who Abandon their Children (Hate) - So you did not want him? Then give him to another, do not just toss him aside as if he was trash. It goes without saying why Jokashi hates those who leave their sons and daughters to die. And why when he finds those people they pay for their crime, they pay dearly.

    Artifact
    Spoiler
    Show

Savage Moon Claws (Paired Moonsilver Razor Claws) - These once belonged to another lunar who left them with his tribe when he was near death. They were bequeathed to Rivers Run Red for he too was a ‘Moon Warrior’ He puts them to good use.

    Silent Chorus reporting!

(Though I still need to figure backgrounds out. I'm confident that can be dealt with, though)

    Backstory:
    Spoiler
    Show
Near the edge of a great swamp, there lay a series of towns--small things, really, that served mostly as outposts for Realm mining interests. A single Dynast resided there, serving as the Satrap of this place.

As the town's light ceased to be seen in the East, and trees choked out the sky, the Arczekchi chief Jidar-Kai grew very, very famous. Among the Horde, it was thought that he might just carve up an empire--succeed where countless others had failed. And great men draw mosquitos very quickly.

Cynis Roynar was not a great man, and this was known to many. But he was a man who strived to better himself, or at least in eyes of his superiors. And on the month of Descending Wood, he believed he had a shot at this. His accountant listened closely.

His plan was fairly simple in its basic nature--a few years ago, there happened to be a mine far nearer by the Hordes than Roynar's own. Unfortunately, the Hordes made it...rather difficult to acquire anything of worth, at least without paying very dearly for it. Roynar would simply make the Hordes of the Arczeckhs pay in their blood, instead, aiding Cynis in their debts and Roynar in his legacy. His accountant was unsure of this plan, but was loyal to him and did not speak dissent.

Meanwhile, in the swamp, the Arczeckhi caught a gleaming silver eye...this, too, Roynar knew. He did not share it with the men. He did not share it with his accountant, a fact that later led to his demise. But not now, for his accountant was loyal.

The first battle cry was heard in the month of Ascending Fire, as Roynar ran his men against the Arczeckhi. Many among them died, but Roynar had planned for this, using slaves to fill their ranks. His accountant looked on with a small frown, but said nothing.

The Arczeckhi screamed in turn, and with much more force. One man wreathed in silver led them, and he laid waste to Roynar's plans, his men, and his town. He died shortly after he gave his accountant a weapon, having almost no true soldiers left to defend him.

His accountant prepared to aid Roynar, at first...but then his accountant saw the silver glow.

His accountant stabbed the Dynast Roynar in the back, seven times, and in flash of silver and darkness, joined the Lunar commander's ranks.

Since then, Silent Chorus has learned much from another Lunar, the commander's own master, guiding things from afar. It was here that Silent Chorus got her name. It was here that Silent Chorus got her quest--to ensure the rule of the Good and the Wise throughout Creation.

    Appearance:
An amalgam of This and this, but the robes are somehow more voluminous.

    Personality
Silent Chorus is, on the whole, a rather diligent and quiet individual who prefers to approach things diplomatically. She also has a bit of disdain for excesses and flashy displays.

You also have 6BP unspent by my count.

Spoiler: If you don't mind a recommendation
    Show
I'd advise you get Willpower 10, Conviction 5 and more favoured ability dots using those BP.

You may also want to shift some dots in to Stealth and Archery/Thrown to make best use of those Dex charms. Just guessing, I'd say you went straight for the perfect defence, right? That should be fine, as your character obviously wants to be nowhere near combat, but a dot or two of Dodge might not hurt if you can spare them.

Backgrounds wise, Resources dots wouldn't be a bad idea for an accountant. Dots of Artifact (the Ultimate Document from Oadenal's Codex might mesh well with your character) or Followers as gifts from your mentor might be worth considering. Some Contacts or Influence might represent acquaintances from before your exaltation or folks you've won over since.

    Otherwise, everything checks out.

Also, could you edit in the backstory, appearance and personality from the recruitment thread?

I probably will do what among those I can afford. Thanks!

The one issue with backgrounds is that I still don't totally know what Chorus could've gotten at after Exalting, but I'm thinking Artifact would make sense, as would some Resources, so it's a start...

Also, could you edit in the backstory, appearance and personality from the recruitment thread?
    Ees done.

On a second count, you are correct. I must have forgotten that Lunars still only get 25 ability dots.

    Butterfly's character sheet:

Spoiler: Butterfly's Wing Heralds the Storm
    Show
Name: Butterfly's Wing Heralds the Storm
    Caste: Changing Moon
Anima: A chaotic, silvery-iridescent swarm of butterflies twist and swirl about a great banyan tree.

Motivation: To forge new connections within the web of Creation, and assist (force?) its peoples to live in harmony with the world and each other.

    Appearance:
    Spoiler
    Show
    Height: 5'6”
Build: Fit and trim, with a classical “hourglass” figure
Concept: Fluttershy meets Ra's al Ghul

Appearance: The girl who was to become Butterfly was a typical child of the rainforest; brown of skin and black of hair, always just on the edge of getting enough to eat. Her hair cascaded to her waist in thick unwashed ropes, and her skin was criss-crossed with the scars and welts left by scrapes, falls, jungles parasites, and the occasional run-in with a larger predator or the dying thrashes of prey beasts. Despite her rather hard life, her smiling eyes (so dark brown they were nearly black) and the flash of her grin shone through the grime coating her face.

With Exaltation fled her malnourishment, and she became the very manifestation of the jungle's fertile embrace. She had always been well loved, but her transcendent, near-alien beauty brought those she had called tribe quickly under her loving sway. Even the jungle seemed entranced with her shimmering grace and charm, the very trees bowing to her radiant, sharp-toothed smile. Her's is the domain of light and shadow beneath the canopy, and she embodies the rich and violent passions of the jungle.

In her lies a deep and abiding love of Creation, and her actions resonate her compassion and love of life; in turn, she expects (and sometimes demands) the love of the world in return. Though soft-spoken she is always heard, for every eye is turned upon her. She glories in love, accentuating her natural charms with only the barest of embellishments; often she goes unveiled in her native realm. Abroad, she is willing to clothe herself, if only to hint and tease the eye. She is fond of jewelry and wears earrings, rings, and studs crafted from shining metals and the hardest jungle woods. Frequently she goes clothed in jungle plants, or subsumes her human form into a shifting shape of blooming vines which twist and bend in semblance of her true form.

    Personality notes:
    Spoiler
    Show
    - Butterfly thrives on her connection to others, and is less than likely to be found on her own if there are people about. Although she frequently seeks to be the center of attention, she is content to watch and be quietly noticed, keeping the shifting scene wholly within her loving sight.
    - Difficult to rouse to anger, within her there yet lies a deep well of fury; the might of nature red in tooth and thorn. She has a long memory, but will generally seek to seduce and charm her enemies rather than directly confront them. In the final extremity, she will suborn their very will and submerse them in love for her.
    - Patient and cunning; she looks before she leaps, and seeks out all connections in a given situation and how they will interact.
    - Seeks to incorporate the many into the whole; she will re-forge connections and weave ties between differing sides.
    - Survival means change, and only those who can adapt are worthy to live.

    Background:
    Spoiler
    Show
She had forgotten her name, or almost; echoes still came to her on the evening breeze, and the scurrying eyes of the underbrush whispered that it was not lost, but kept in trust for when she would need to recall it. She dreamed of memory, of a time when she was but a youth and kept a garden plot to help feed her family, and a hive of bees to allow them the sweet luxury of honey and beeswax to trade. She had moved out, she vaguely recalled, to her own home, and she had filled it with green and growing things and opened it to the sound of birdcalls. Her village had ever fought the surrounding jungles, determined to wrest from it their small existence; it was she who asked why. It was that dark-skinned girl, tinged green, who had walked among the local gods and charmed them with sweet words and the hypnotic light of the Moon, and who had shown the villagers how to weave the plants of the forest into organic shelters, and to train the local beasts of the woods.

Some few others of silver light had come to her, telling her of the terrible burden of their kind who lived by the light of the Moon. Much of their talk she dismissed as noise, but the lesson of Luna's guardianship over Creation rang true to her ears, and so she sent the silver ones away, vowing that she had heard their message and would endeavor always to protect the Creation of Gaia. Understanding came, of Creation as a living thing, each creature and plant an organelle in the vast web that had been pulled from the jaws of un-Reality. She meditated on the folly of mortalkind, that they attempted to place themselves above and outside of the web of Creation, and knew then her purpose. Like the white cells of her blood, would she devour the infections of the world, and restore connections throughout Creation that had been severed.

Recently, she had expanded her claim to border the territory of the old spirit who called himself Ten-Masks Canny; between them had flowed information, understanding, and commitment to live in symbiotic relationship. Then had come the infection, the assault of mortals who tore at the flesh of the jungle without understanding that their struggle merely nourished the soil and the scavengers. She had hidden herself, pulling her villagers and presence back to the core of her territory, knowing survival demanded it. As the land healed itself, she spread her senses into the new scar-tissue left in the mortals' wake. Blessing the passing of the elder silver, she seeks understanding and to bind the waiting land (and its creatures) to the will of Creation.

Once, she had appeared in the cave of Ten-Masks uninvited, attempting to peek into the realm of dreams where he adventured in slumber. The elder woke nigh-instantly, and after his threats and grumblings had washed off her smiling face he relented, but cautioned her that she had given killing insult, to many, and would be in dire straights had he wished her dead. In exchange for her vow to practice more caution, he gifted her with a shining tattoo of moonsilver which splashed angular about her chest and shoulders like spider's web glistening in the morning mists.

She learned early that the jungle hides secrets, and the occasional windfall. Exploring deep beneath the trees, she found the remains of an old scar where something had fallen to earth at great speed. Curious, she followed and came upon old bones shot through with hungry plants. Something twitched at her approach; she felt an odd stirring in the currents of essence which enveloped her. She fell to the earth, her form re-shaping itself to dig, but she had barely scratched the topsoil before her excavation brought a shining ring of golden filigree to light. Quickly she found three more, and being somewhat enamored of ornamentation divined their purpose while marveling at the serendipity.

The Great Banyan, it is called by the tribe, and Loving Embrace of the Forest. To her it is Wild's Calling, and stands both as her roots, her heart, and her people's shield. They may rest peacefully among its branches, and live among its roots and cathedral-vines. By the light of the moon, the whispers from its branches are carried to her on the winds of dreams, and she commands respect, authority, and unmitigated love in the heart of her territory, the forest itself coming to her aid.

As the seed she planted grew into a mighty tree, so did its secret heart grow into a mighty force of nature. The tribe calls it Yuan-Sille, the Fanged Heart. It appears as an enormous jungle cat, made entirely of interwoven roots and vines; in the upper branches of Wild's Calling it slumbers until some need calls it to protect the villagers or the great tree itself. Then, it explodes into a terrifying blur of thorn and claw and wing (if needed; not all threats creep on the ground), and blood soaks the roots of the banyan.

At the deepest heart of the banyan, where not even the villagers are allowed to tread, sits a stone and a quiet pool. A single ray of brilliant moonlight penetrates from above no matter the weather, and upon the stone is written a single name.

Cult: Tribe of the Growing Banyan
    Spoiler
    Show
”The Tribe” was all they had ever referred to themselves as, in the time before She took them into her embrace. A group of mortals eeking out an existence in the deep jungle, constantly at war with the rainforest as it sought to reclaim their small cleared fields, to fell them with illness and predator. Stubborn in their freedom and isolation as any mortals ever are, they had struck a balance with the forest as an outmatched tug-of-war player might brace against a stone and so teeter on the brink of defeat.

She had always been a quiet girl, more interested in the jungle in which her tribe lived than anything else. She kept plants, set out feeders for birds, and nursed a succession of slightly-more-terrifying-than-the-last sick creatures back to health. Oh, she helped with the hunting, and with cutting back the boundaries of the forest before it could overtake their little collection of huts; but she welcomed the forest where her tribe fought back against it. In her defiance of civilization's struggle against the thorny wilds, she caught the attention of the Huntress and so drawn into the jungle. There the Moon offered her the love of the wild places, and she loved back.

Upon her return, the tribe gathered about her in awe; with her calmly stalked the wild panther, and about her head butterflies formed a living crown and the trees themselves whispered adulation. She spoke to them, proclaiming a new life for the tribe, a life as one with the forest and in harmony with the green and growing Creation which surrounded them. She promised them her protection, and asked only that they accept the change which she would nurture within them. The tribe elders proclaimed her a living goddess; the least gods of their village and of civilization that their forefathers had brought with them were swayed by her beauty and the power of her exaltation. They fell to their knees as one, but she commanded them to arise; she sought only their love, she said, not their worship.

It was only much later that she reflected on how thin and vague was the boundary between the two.

In covenant with her tribe, she planted a single seed at the center of the village. Over the next fortnight, the seed sprouted into a massive over-arching banyan tree, embracing the town and its inhabitants in leafy bowers. Slowly too, the villagers changed; their diets changed, and their senses grew keener as they adapted to life as a part of the jungle, not opposed to it. Today, the tribe lives in the very branches of the tree as well as on the ground below, and ranges wide through her territory.

Dazhbug, I'm going to need something a bit more specific for that Integrity speciality. 'Mental Influence' covers just about everything that you'd be using Integrity to resist.

Khadalva, mind noting your BP expenditures on your sheet?

    Otherwise, everything looks good.

I may not have time to get everything set up for the IC thread until Tuesday, but if folks want to come up with a reason they might be visiting the capital of Aynweir (details of the place are in the likely-horrendously-written blurb in the first post), that'd be great. How you'd be travelling to the city too.

If anyone's character would be unlikely to head there, speak up and I'll change the starting location.

Should the blurb be informal or be in "story text"?

Fair. I cribbed it from one of Ifni's character sheets, heh. Figured it was worth trying, will change it along with mutations tomorrow. Sorry for the delay on final touches, life distracted me with a bunch of things. And kerbals.

The various blurbs are all things that your character may know. Obviously, if your character has no ties to Yu-Shan then they probably don't know the sidereal perspective or the location of the celestial gate and our lone Solar probably doesn't know the Lunar perspective either.

I'll see about getting the IC thread up soon.

Rivers Run Red sat in the back of the wagon a long brown cloak wrapped around him. He had bartered for passage to this weakened city state. It was with trepidation that he entered this lands. If only that damn god hadn't gotten greedy. The river wasn't supposed to expand that far, to flow that far south. But by his own drive and oaths he felt honor bound to keep it as part of his territory, the oasis it revitalized was becoming worth the trouble though. Attracting wild game and making a tiny retreat from the heat of the south. However that put his territory close to that of the Elder Lunar Ten Masks. He had no love for the Elder but knew better than to clash with him. He had intended to meet with him and perhaps form an alliance of sorts.

Then the Wyld Hunt struck down Ten Masks and many of the Lunar's allies. All coming from this same city state he was heading to. Though he was not a friend of Lunar Rivers had even less love for the Immaculate Order. From what he could gather the war with Ten Masks had cost the state greatly and it was ripe for the taking. There was opportunity in it, to be clear Rivers did not want the land for his own...but there was gain in ensuring it's next ruler was one open to his influence. His territory going further south an ally in a stat that reaps the bounty of the mountains would be useful. metal weapons to spread among the tribes, trade between his tribes and the state. Yes that would do. And he had to make sure that the city didn't fall to less savory powers and become a cancerous node so close to his Territory.

I sorted out my specific mutation pools and changed the integrity specialization to "Unnatural Influence" (post edited above). Tome, let me know if UMI is still too general and I'll switch it again.

So far as a general library of mutations goes, I'm having some trouble approaching things from the "I want this list of mutations, what creatures would encompass all of these" angle. So, I'm going to switch it around, and ask Tome for some help here.

    Creatures wanted:

    Flier - Steel Shadow (CoTD:E p. 158), Mospid, Strix
    Attacker (Natural Weapon, Defenses) - Claw/Tree Strider (CoTD:S p. 159), Blade Vine (CoTD:E p. 155), Raptor Cat (CoTD:E p. 157)
Sneak - Chameleon, Strangler's Serpent, Forest Viper

(All creatures are in the core book or simply general terrestrial critters unless noted otherwise)

Rated first, second, and third choices in various categories. Unsure on the range of Steel Shadows (they're originally from the Haltan area but the book notes that they've spread), and I'd probably add a fairly small and innocuous bird to the list of forms as well, simply for ease of mobility.

Yeah I kinda stopped filling out mutations too. I was either over or under thinking it. So I'll keep with those forms I listed and we can work out mutations as we go.

Been busy so still working on the Daughter I'm almost finished though, just with work and RL I haven't had much time to sit down and finish her stats.

    Ack!

I thought you'd already approved her! I erased them a few days ago!

Edit: (Because they don't like double posts here.)

There's a little intro for me. :) This is a promising beginning.

I may have had Miyako addressing random farmers, but if one of the Lunars happens to be nearby and would like to join the conversation, I'd appreciate the chat.

If folks want, I can see about doing up some generic animal mutation packages. Small bird, big cat, that sort of thing. Should make a decent base line to modify into more specific creatures.

And no worries about not having everything entirely ready yet, we're starting slow. Unless Seanfall is silly and flies into the obvious shadowland during sunset of course. Or someone decides to flare their anima for some reason.

Well If I did I already have my 'War-Form' mutations that of the Crocodile. Yeah some Generic packages might be called for. I think they have some examples in the TAW PDF but i'd have to look.

I think some "baseline" packages would be great; it gives me somewhere to start so I don't go crazy over each animal and end up with way too many mutation points.

That said, if I could get your take on the Blade Vine, I'd appreciate it. I like the idea of Butterfly using it as a primary source of aesthetic.

Looking in TAW they have examples for a bear, A Crow, A Horse, Saika (the big sharks that make Great whites feel inferior.) Tyrant Lizards, and a Zombie. Hmm...I really should have looked there when I was doing mutations would have made it a lot easier on me..*headdesk*

Posted! I forgot to do a little "Why Butterfly is here" blurb, though, so here ya go:

    Spoiler: Butterfly Intro Blurb
    Show
The naked young man rose from the ground, licking delicately at the thin rivulets of dripping red that still stained his fingers. Before him the ground had been disturbed lightly, but oddly not as if it had been dug into. A stranger observing the scene might almost have said that it had been opened up from below, and then shut again. If they had looked closer, they might even have noticed the tiny sprout of a tree poking through the earth.

His hands clean, the man strode away from the clearing into the rocks. He found a small pile of clothes, mostly leather and goatskin with a thick fleece vest, and shrugged them on. Smiling, he strode off through the terrain with the lithe grace of a dancer.

Within the man's shell, the young Lunar pondered her path as she leapt from rock to rock, slowly moving up towards the crest of the craggy foothill. It was but two weeks past when she had finally ranged beyond her territory, confident that the infection which had blazed through the lands of Ten-Masks Canny had burned out and no longer posed a threat to her or her people. Drawn by equal parts curiosity, knowledge of a threat near her borders, and desire to reap what opportunity she could from the passing of the Lunar elder, Butterfly had stalked through her jungles to the rising mountains of the west. These posed no more barrier to the young Exalt than they did to the waters of the rivers which fed the thirsty westlands. She had kept to the lowlands during the crossing, marveling at the variety of flora and fauna; when she at last descended with the rushing waters, the spreading plains and vaulted sky of Aynweir startled her. Encountering a few local herdsmen, she had heard of the city Aynweir, and the dying struggles of the terrifying Anathema lord, and turned north. Ascending to the heights to revel in the newly opened world above her, she had pushed north to beating heart of the region.

After all, she mused as the young shepherd climbed to the final ridge above the city, to know a place one must know its heart.

Butterfly gets the same bird's eye view I just gave Rivers.

It'll be up to Seanfall if he notices you I guess. I'm willing to eschew the roll for the sake of getting the PCs in one place.
