Evayn

"Sounds great," says Evayn, smiling broadly. He reaches out to shake the quartermaster's hand. "Nice doing business with you. I think I like this place."

He waits to receive payment and for Kaff to collect his pigments, and then prepares to head back outside. While waiting, he nonchalantly indicates the commotion outside and asks, "Someone make a big find? What's all the excitement?"

The quartermaster transfers the credits to Evayn. He takes something that looks like a nailgun and clicks it once on each of the weapons and then again on the handle of the armor. He turns to Kaff and asks, "Would you like a tray to hold those three containers? If you drop one, your boots are likely to regret the experience."

When asked about the stream of personnel in the hallway, the quartermaster checks his terminal and says, "Shift change. The construction crews, first shift flight crews, and most of the laboratory staff all got dismissed 5 minutes ago."

As he talks, two men in dirty blue jumpsuits and one woman in white uniform walk into the quartermasters. The men ignore Kaff and Evayn, but nod at the quartermaster. The woman smiles at Kaff and walks down one of the aisles. She pauses halfway down and glances back over her shoulder at Kaff once more before turning down a side aisle.

Evayn

Evayn nods noncommittally. Maybe this place is just a research station. Must have had trouble with the last delivery, from the reception we got, he muses to himself. He thanks the quartermaster again and turns to go, oblivious of Kaff's apparent admirer. "You all set?" he asks.

Kaff

Concentrating on carrying and not dropping things, Kaff didn't notice the newcomers until they were virtually right next to him. When he saw the woman smile, it immediately set him on edge and he remembered the lessons of Instructor Telrisa.

Telrisa had been an exceptionally beautiful instructor during the security training and just about every male Human always wanted to be in her classes. Her first class had been memorable, at least to Kaff, where she had singled him out and asked, "Chalma! What do you think your most attractive feature is?"

"Uh, I don't know?" Kaff struggled with the unexpected question, "my biceps maybe?"

Smiling sweetly, Telrisa suggested, "how about the fact that you may be guarding a 30,000 credit starship? You could probably give a Wookie a good fight if he tried to steal something like that but an attractive woman could probably just walk straight up to you and you'd forget all about your duty, or your training and . . ."

As she had been saying this, she had been walking sensuously toward Kaff. Indeed, he had been watching her hip wiggling walk more than he was listening to her words when she suddenly whacked him on the side of the head. "See! I even told you what I was doing and you still let me! If I had a vibroblade you would be dead now and I'd have a new starship!"

"Always remember. When something looks too good to be true, it's a trap!"

Captain Evayn's words brought Kaff out of his reverie. "Yeah, I'm ready to go."

Evayn
"Alright, I'm heading back then. Maybe I can find some business for us from this station. I imagine the dock master knows what's going on with most of the in and out shipping." He glances over at the quartermaster again, then says "Unless you'd be the one to talk to about some shipping as well? Or should I be heading back to the docking bay?"

The quartermaster says, "Interested in shipping, eh? Most of our shipping needs are imports, not exports. You can ask at the docks. You might also try the exchange boards outside of the mess hall."

The quartermaster stows the tagged weapons and then suggests, "I've heard a bunch of people planning leave time to attend some festival over on Bespin for the Expansion Week holiday." Checking the date on the terminal, he then adds, "Although, that is more than a week away still. 'Course with the parts you bought, you may be here a while."

He then looks around at his stocked shelves and says with a smile, "If you want to speculate a bit and buy up some of my merchandise, you are welcome." He motions over towards a crate about 5 meters away from the desk and says, "About the only export I hear about is ore and gas. I hear with a gas collector and filtration system, you can just about fly around the nebula and make money. It supposedly filters rare elements and compounds right out of space. I've got one if you are interested. I've got several portable exo-mining kits too, in case that suits you."

Evayn
Evayn smiles, turning again to go. "Great, I'll let you know. You've been very helpful," he says. Stopping briefly to adjust his jacket and shades, he returns to Kaff and says, "Ok, that's that. I'm heading back. Meet you there, or are you coming with?" he asks. After waiting for any response, he returns to the docking bay.

Kaff

Still eyeing the woman more as a threat, Kaff waits until Captain Evayn is ready. "I'll stick with you sir," he says and follows him down the corridor. "So, what do you think we should do? Gas mining, speculation or passenger run to Bespin? We could even try all three if we want but that might be pushing it."

Arriving at the ship, Kaff gets to a relatively clear area in the hold and begins to repair and re-color his armor. He also tries his hand at some basic alterations to make it not look entirely like a set of Stormtrooper armor. If time permits, he'll then do some practise with the armor to see how it moves and get used to the servos.

Evayn
Walking back with Kaff, Evayn allows himself to think of something besides business for the first time in what feels like a while, even though it's only been a few days. "After that last one," he says, "a nice milk run to Bespin might be just the thing. We'd have to look into our passenger space to see how that would work out. Perhaps more importantly, I've always wanted to check out some of the Bespin casinos and sabaac halls. Might make for a fun stopover."

Once back in the docking bay, Evayn first heads to the ship to make sure there's nothing else needed for repairs and to check that they won't be asked to leave their space any time soon. Finding Daine outside working on the hull, he asks, "Everything going alright out here?"

Daine

Daine pulls ups goggles up as he pulls the torch from the seam he's working as Evayn walks up. He tugs a pair of earplugs out of his ears, loud music coming from them as he leans back. "Not bad," he says. "Shouldn't be too long on the hull. Internal wiring should be done within an hour," he says with a shrug. "We lost everything from the room when the hull was breached though," he adds. "I still need to run some lubricant into the engine, other than that we're good to fly," he says with a hint of satisfaction. "If we have time, the entire ship needs a coat of paint though. Its sitting in the cargo hold," he says with a slight grin. "Would go faster with everyone helping with that."

He continues grinning slightly, waiting for Evayn's response before he sticks the earplugs back in and gets back to work. (Answering any questions if he asks beforehand).

Evayn

Evayn's first impulse is to react with laughter; him, paint the ship. He quickly realizes that, above and beyond the obvious truth of the statement, Daine is serious as well. He feigns horror to cover his real (but mild) displeasure. "Paint!? I couldn't possibly!" he says, grinning. "I guess I could get to work on that. Not much else going on for the time being. Better make myself useful in some way..." he says, wandering into the hold to retrive the paint and any equipment he needs. He puts his coat aside, but with the recent action his other clothing is probably a bit damaged anyway and it seems to him some extra paint won't hurt it at this point. I'll have to pick up some new clothes next time we hit a decent port, he thinks to himself as he prepares to get started painting.

Evayn gets to work painting the ship while Daine finishes off his repairs. Kaff works on his own painting project while Kera continues to work on Nate.

After an hour or so, Daine has finished the hull repairs, but still has plenty of work to do inside the ship, while Evayn is making steady progress on the paint job. The ship is big and has a top and a bottom. Fortunately, there are view decorative details to deal with other than the cockpit windows.

After another couple hours, Evayn is about halfway done. Daine has finished the wiring repairs to Vicks' cabin and restored the proper life support flow. Kaff has finished his own paint job on the Stormtrooper armor and goes outside to help Evayn finish up. Kera still has a long way to go.

Daine continues his flurry of repairs, cleaning out the spidermice and burnt wires on the bridge. He moves down into the galley and fixes a few electrical problems there before moving back into the engine to do a lube job. Daine shuts down power to the ship and takes everything off line. He then drains the engine and power distribution lubricant. After some inspections, he puts in the new lube and primes everything.

By the time Daine has power back up, and the engines online, Evayn and Kaff have finished the paint job and everyone needs a break after 8 hours of work.

Kera

Working on the droid the whole time in the engineering alcove, Kera keeps looking up to watch Daine work on the engine. Her progress with the processor might have been more spectacular if she hadn't been so distracted for the last hour or so. When Daine is clearly finishing up, she gives up all pretense of working and starts picking up all the tools that belong in the toolchest to put them away, including the ones Daine was using.

"You have a smudge." She gets up into Daine's personal space and taps his nose lightly, her expression similar to the one she gets while examining a piece of equipment she's interested in purchasing. "There. And another one there," she moves her finger to tap his left cheek, then his forehead, "and there, too."

Evayn
Groaning, Evayn stretches his weary limbs and unceremoniously puts his equipment aside. "That's it. No more." he says, turning to drag the paint supplies back to the cargo hold. Stepping back, briefly, to look at the ship in the best shape he's seen it in yet, he reminds himself that he chose to leave the comforts of the core; that he chose a more difficult life, mostly for the fun of it, but also because he wanted to know some true accomplishment. Something like getting an old, beat up ship repaired and painted would have seemed much more trivial to him before than it did now. The thought was energizing.

"Nice work, Kaff," he says, standing a little straighter and hefting the paint supplies. "Thanks for your help." He heads up the ramp, moving a little more briskly than before, and calls over to Kera and Daine, "Great job you two. Things are starting to look good around here." He puts the supplies away, and, despite his weariness, heads for the bridge to contact docking bay control to make sure that there's nothing incoming scheduled so that the crew can rest without being disturbed.

Daine

A grin crosses his face as Daine Kera points out smudges. "Really now," he says as he tosses a wrench on top of the tool box. "You don't seem to be in much better shape," he says as he wraps his arms around her and begins guiding her backwards. "There is but one thing to do."

He grins slightly, nodding to Evayn as the captain climbs up to the cockpit. He flashes Trill a raising of his eyebrows as the lavatory, closing the door behind them.

Evayn reaches the dockmaster without any trouble. She indicates that nothing is scheduled to arrive, so you're welcome to stay. They'll set off the sirens in the bay if something comes up and they need to reach you.

While everyone begins to unwind from a hard day of labor, Trill utilizes the newly repair galley appliances to prepare a new meal, "Utopilian Raptor Soup with a side of Utopilian trencular." Looks like chicken noodle soup with a side of cheese covered blue broccoli.

The meal is ready just about the time the crew is finally washed up.

Evayn

Evayn sits down to eat, gratefully thanking Trill and digging in. While he has some difficulty with the unfamiliar truncular dish, he enjoys the other immensely. During the meal, he makes a point of mentioning, "I know we haven't technically been paid, and now we're pretty much self-employed. That said, we can divide up credits if you want or I'd be happy to keep them on the one credstick. Let me know if you need something in particular and we'll take care of it. If you're more comfortable dividing them up, we can take care of that now if everyone's got a credstick to use."

Kera

Kera is still toweling her hair dry when the food is ready. "Smells great, Trill. I'm starving." She's ended up back in her flight suit unzipped down to her waist with the top half hanging off her hips and a white tank top that fits her tightly. She slides into a seat with a meal and digs into the food, heedless of what it might actually be. Trill certainly serves more interesting food than she could make for herself.

"I got nothing in particular to buy at the moment. As long as I know we're doing a profit split, I'm cool with it being all in one pot. 'Sides, we won't have a boat if we don't pay it off, right? I'd rather get that done with before we start thinking about getting toys."

Daine

Daine follows Kera out shortly afterwards, crossing to his bunk to change into a clean pair of black trousers and a sleevless shirt, his tool kit still attached securely at his hip. His hair is once more pulled back to hand straight down the middle of his back. He sits down, poking at the soup for a moment before shrugging and digging in. "That's the important thing," he says, not looking up for a moment. "I'd rather no one come along and claim the ship after we put this much work into it."

As the crew finishes up its meal, Nate rolls through and into the galley. A panel on the side of it pops open and it plugs itself into the galley's fire suppression system. There is the slight sound of a compressor working for 20 seconds or so, then the droid unplugs and rolls back over to the crew, "For some reason, my internal fire extinguisher was empty. I am still operating at a diminished capacity, but my language processors and diagnostic systems now seem to be online."

Evayn

Chewing as he listens, Evayn nods to the others and says, "Alright, we'll just make sure we send in a payment for now. I'm sure JZ had some sort of protocol in place for paying off the ship. Hopefully we don't have to do it in person." He glances over as Nate rolls in and does his thing. Unsure of how to respond, or if it's even necessary, he answers, "That's good, er... droid. Thank you." He stands up, having finished the meal, and says, "Thanks Trill. Very nice, as usual. Unless anyone needs anything, I'm going to check through JZ's datapad to see how we send off this payment, then I'm going to sleep. It's been a hell of a long day."

Kera

"Sweet dreams, Cap." Kera gives him a very fake, loose salute and puts her dishes in the sink. "So, little droid. You can understand us now. And fix yourself. Which means more time to do fun stuff for me. Always a plus. Your timing stinks, though. We're all headed off to power down right now, Nate. You could do yourself plenty of good by using that shiny diagnostics package to help you fix yourself up some while we're all sleeping."

She pats the droid on the...head and walks into Daine's room. The last thing audible from her, aside from the sound of her unzipping her flight suit the rest of the way, is, "maybe we could spring for a bigger bed."

Nate responds to Evayn and Kera's speech with, "You are welcome humans. I will begin further repairs. Current estimates place repair completion in approximately 12.33 days."

Nate rolls off and Trill says, "You are welcome. I'll just cleanup and then catch some sleep if its alright."

Evayn digs into the JZ's financies again and finds the account number he is supposed to use for Mule payments. It looks like he simply needs to make a deposit to an account held with the banking guild, account number, "87T-39471000298-P8374H"

Evayn
Evayn attempts to set up a transfer, assuming the proper connections can be made from out here. "This oughta tide them over," he says as he tries a transfer of 1800 credits. Whether or not it goes through, he then heads off to sleep. If the transfer doesn't work, he resolves to try again at the next opportunity.

Kaff

"Trill, you constantly amaze me!" Kaff says in a happy but somewhat weary voice as he sits to eat with the others. He has little trouble getting used to Kera's casual state of dress, he notes he's already starting to think of her as something of a sister - probably the older, bossy kind that some of the other guys used to gab about when his was a guard.

At the mention of the credit situation, his only comment is, "yeah, I'm fine with it as long as we can pay the bills. Uh, I would suggest though that we keep that credit chip secure, or maybe like have two of them or something? I'd hate for a guy to shoot you Captain and then take every credit we have."

After the meal and as Evayn is, Kaff yawns and says, "I'm going to get some sleep. When you want to get some rest Captain, get me up and I'll sit around and make sure no one creeps in with dire intent."

Evayn

"Sounds good, thanks Kaff," Evayn calls from his computer terminal.

While checking on the finances, Evayn finds that there's no need to worry about making a payment for about half a month. He resolves to wait until they have enough cash to make a full payment. He sees the wisdom in Kaff's implication that someone remain on watch; he heads up to the bridge to keep an eye on things, waking Kaff in a few hours to take over watching the ship.

Evayn checks the computers and then locks down the ship. After several hours, he switches off with Kaff and hits his rack.

Morning comes without any fanfare, or sunrise. By sleeping in a bit, the crew are able to get up around noon(local time). Trill uses his magic to summon everyone, except Nate, to the common area. Nothing special this morning, but the smell of coffee and cooking food is enough to wake any species in the known universe.

As Trill serves breakfast he says, "If we are really going to have passengers, I'll have to scrub down the cargo hold and make sure our fold out bedding is clean." Looking to Evayn, he adds, We don't have much in the way of sleeping or seating for passengers right now. Maybe we could get some cots or folding chairs? We do seem to have 3 extra cabins right now, maybe you can get a premium for those rooms?"

Daine

Daine rises, coming out of his room shortly as the scent of the coffee floats through the ship. He emerges in a pair of brown pants and a black shirt and plops down at the table, happily accepting the cup of coffee from Trill. "Thank ya," he says, leaning over the cup and slowly waking up as the others emerge.

As Trill speaks of the passengers, he nods back toward Vick's room. "That cabin should be entirely good, but its slightly barren as quarters go. Easy to fix though if we can find the furniture." He sips his coffee and listens to the others.

Evayn

Evayn mostly grunts unresponsively until he's taken a few bites of food and had some coffee. He quickly brightens up, however, and discusses the lodging facilities with Trill. "I'm sure we can snag some basics from the quartermaster. That man seems to have everything." He stretches in between bites, still without his habitual shades so early in the morning. "I'll go talk to him about it once I talk to the dockmaster; we'll see exactly how many passengers we're talking about, and charging extra for those cabins is probably worth it."

What's the going rate for this sort of transit on a regular passenger ship? We're not as high-class as all that, but we appear to be the only game in town.

Kera

Kera emerges from Daine's room looking about the same as when she went in, except that her light red hair is dry now, and she is running her hands through it, trying to make it stop sticking up at funny angles. she grabs a cup of coffee and whatever Trill is offering for breakfast without a second glance. "Three? Are you implying that my room is up for grabs? I could probably suffer without it, but I'd have to, like, clean it or something."
