Rowan wasn't about to humor the stupid natives, but replying back. he knew full well his sexual preferences -which did not include male Commissars. He just flipped them the bird in response as he ran past.

Rowan just half-heartedly mumbled a response to the commissar's questions and such, though his jogging did halt a bit at the sound of battle over his comm-bead, listening in on the communication going through the channel.

++This is Rowan, I'm out sight-seeing with the commissar, what's going on, i hear grumbled chatter and what sounds like weapon's fire over the bead?++ he replied in return, to the Sarge.

Firniks helmet always gave the com chatter an oddly nebolous quality, since every other sound became slightly muffled. Hearing voices clearly when every other bit of the world seemed distant gave him the urge to look over his shoulder. It was one of the easier prices to pay to be encased in advanced plate and be assured most low powered weapons would do ever so little against his bulk. With thudding steps, the stormtrooper followed Carnelia like a massive shadow, carbine at the ready, pointing low. They were still inside the compound, and that meant friendlies in the halls. Wouldn't want an accident happening.

His old combat instructors had been very, very clear on that point after one too many incidents of decidedly unfriendly fire.

The rest of the squad was still forming up, getting gear and getting ready. Best put some distance between this doorway and the others, in case someone wanted to try something flagrantly violent. Giving sergeant Carnelia a quick hand signal, Firnik strode some steps to the side and prepared to cover his squad.

Apparently, the recaf would have to wait.

Anna moved quick as a snake when she wanted to, back towards the bed. Praiseby had already drew her rifle and threw it to the older woman. Anna caught it, spun it into firing position, and began scanning the area.

She was unarmoured. She barely had any ammo. In the close confines of the base, her rifle would be useless. Praiseby seemed to have come to the same conclusion.

    "Go ghost."

Praiseby nodded, and the two women vanished into the shadows.

OOC: Entaris, you need to tell me which of the three options ArcturusV outlined in the OOC thread you want to go with. You cannot perform an overwatch action, regardless of which of the three you choose from. Also, while I've got your ear, you really ought to post your character sheet in the OOC thread. Just edit it in to the post you first made in the OOC. Super helpful stuff. Sorry for the delay, I can't resolve the Surprise Round until I know your action.

Finally, I need an initiative test from you, Entaris.

OOC: There's a disconnect between the posts of Hemnon and Doc Kraken, so I need to resolve that. Hemnon is saying Rowan kept jogging, whereas Doc Kraken seems to be indicating that Ffordeham stopped and began speaking to the local color. Is Rowan just jogging away? Is the Commissar jogging towards them while puffing out his chest? I need to understand the situation, I'm afraid.

Also, I need awareness tests from the both of you, please.

    Spoiler: The Barracks
    Show
With an explosion that rattled the walls of the barracks, the wailing siren quickly ceased. The sound of las weaponry and solid projectiles began to sound around the encampment -- the area outside the barracks is much like any part of Lost Haven. Plumes of smoke, gouts of fire, subtle vibrations in the ground that indicates the liberal use of explosives... it's chaotic, for certain. A few fellow soldiers are moving around the camp, rushing to put out fires or ascertain the enemy. Firnik is able to see a skulking group of locals several hundred meters ahead, sticking out ever so slightly. There's plenty of cover between them and the group, and it's possible they aren't even the assailants -- but they do seem slightly more armed than a group of locals ought to be, and they're certainly not supposed to be there.

Firnik scanned the area, mentally sorting through the fog of war. This was Lost Haven, and some days on leave had taught him a trick or two. The smoke was normal, for instance. Pretty common for an area of industry, even if out of place in a supposedly guarded guard compound.
    (Blast those Karisfolk!)
Imperial Guards rushing about to accomplish some task or other was a sight more common than his own hands, after a life spent in the Emperor's Blessed military. Okay, so the fires were an interesting facet, but that could just be an impromptu exercise. Hardly a point of worry, welcome, even.
(Security detail? This was a security detail? Blast those Karisfolk!)
There was a rather disconcerting lack of cohesion to the movements of his fellow soldiers. Officers were not, seemingly, leading the fire fighting efforts, but clustered groups showing some initiative. That, in itself, was a cause for alarm. Not having a sergeant hovering nearby was a contemptible breach of protocol.
(Bloody Karisfolk couldn't prevent a titan from being stolen!)
The ground moving under the manipulations of large ordnance was a lovely callback to many a live fire exercise and so, truly, more comforting than cause for alarm. Firnik sagged a little, relaxing as the twisting vibrations boomed across the ground. Didn't get much more homely than this. The ambiance of live ammunition fired off added a special little touch of joy to the scene. Almost like a good, comforting blanket.
(Had to ask someone for a good insult for next time he met a Karis trooper. They deserved it)
Seemed most of the local area, smoke wrapped and fire marked as it was, appeared clear of enemy force---

Wait, what was that? A group of civilians in his military compound? Nevermind their weapons, this was what security checkpoints were for, and damned if the Karisfolk hadn't bothered to make anyone sign any papers! They weren't following an assigned Imperial Guard guide! That just wouldn't do at all. Couldn't run an army with visitation standards this lax. Carnelia wasn't ordering anyone around at the moment, as she was moving towards a good spot of cover with Emilia, so Firnik tapped the side of his helmet, activating the microbead.

"<Squad - Civilians armed, inside compound. Far out, smoke covers. Past fire six and seven from the right. Anna, Lumina, Vin, Elessa, you scope them out? Uncertain intent. No guide near, lots of weapons>"

Could be a group of particularly patriotic gasmask wielding miners ready to join the fray, as was their duty. Or it could be a group of respirator clad recidivists. Well, better stick close to the sergeant nonetheless. Wouldn't want the leader getting shot before giving actual orders.

Gunmetal Arkan earned his name as he clanged around the top of the Chimera, his attempts at stealth completely destroyed by his utter lack of luck. However, once he reached the turret he could see the source of the noise -- three locals, dragging a bag between the three of them. The rough fabric was straining and stretching against something -- the corners were quite pronounced, interrupting the sides of the bag. They were dragging something stiff and rectangular, it would seem! Once they heard his movements, however, two of the locals dropped the bag and quickly began to scale the side of the Chimera -- both moving with almost disturbing grace up the side of the damaged beast. Their arms and legs bent in unnatural ways, and despite the best efforts of their disguises, their distended bellies and bloated skin -- as well as the atrocious stink permeating the air near them -- was unmistakeable. These were not mere humans!

The third quickly moved the bag towards the front of the Chimera, struggling to push the object against the front of the beast. Without the help of its allies, however, the third local made quite a racket, grunting in exertion to push his bag out of harm's way!

The corporal was right, it did seem Rowan and Ffordeham would be outside the initial range of this raid. But then again, if people were willing to attack a compound of Imperial Guards, there would be spotters out there trying to take care of stragglers running away or patrols returning to offer aid.

Which was probably why there was a large group of armed civilians here now, to slow down any response by way of distracting gunfire. Clever, even if that meant they were in the way. Firnik grinned, beneath the helmet, and followed the squad, skulking their way through the smoke and fire.

Better go make them not be in the way, then. Couldn't let the man in charge of shooting in the back or the lad with the autocannon just croak on their own.

He notices the 3rd mutant place the object at the chest of the tank as Rexus direct his attention to it. What is it? Something unstable? Explosives?! He halts his action of seeking cover and spins around towards the 3rd Mutant.

"Do not touch such a hallow miracle with your filth!" Sigismund charges at the Mutant with Simon at his side, bringing down the massive Servo-Claw onto his foe.

The bolt managed to scare the biting local a bit, but not all that much. With a gurgling sound, he lunged at the bolt-pistol-wielding commissar with his teeth once more! Meanwhile, the shotgun man threw away his useless weapon and took out a knife, running to engage the heavy gunner in melee!

The man in the defensive poses manages to evade the powerful slice, dodging the Heavy Gunner's knife. Meanwhile, the biting local failed to connect, his teeth snapping closed too early!

The enginseer failed to connect, but he did startle the mutant in front. There was an extremely audible 'clank' from beneath the chimera, and with the fluidity only unnatural mutation could provide, the mutant slipped away from the techpriest and beneath the personnel carrier!

Meanwhile, on top of the chimera, the mutants approached the man in the gun. In unison, their raised their fists and brought them down, attempting to strike the operator in the head and knock him out!

    "Mutants? I--"

Come now, Firnik. You were a man clad in thicker armor than most. Couldn't do something so ungraceful as be confused now. Speaking through the voice filter of his helmet, Firnik glanced around quickly to make sure that only he, Carnelia and Emilia was within speaking range. Wouldn't do to upset the chain of command. Besides, wouldn't want Lumina to hear him being all frazzled. It was bad enough she go to treat cuts in the first place. Wouldn't ever hear the end of it if the tin soldier actually seemed worried for a moment.

"Sergeant, there's ten of us here. Rally the others around, send two to help at the motorpool. A heavy support solution from a vehicle can dissuade that group of ahead more than us. Lock them in, then break this group, then find heavy Rowan and Ffordeham. Neither Sigismund nor Arkan are killers, and unidentified device always mean explosive. This is a raid, so they want to distract us then disable important sites. Anna is fast and stealthy. Send her over there."

The Commissar jerked back, instinctively responding to his attacker's attempt to bite him. "Cuiyale's Manual of Personal Combat, you recidivist filth!" He spat, firing his pistol again. "Hold your ground, Acrylis! These vermin are not properly trained!"
