Re: Cuthalion (tries to) make a daily drawing.
Now I'm imagining "The tallest hobbit in the world" which is in fact just a short man.

Re: Cuthalion (tries to) make a daily drawing.
Hmmm, so some things. First of all, I think that rooster is the best drawing in here. However, it and the falcon both have the same problem--their legs seem really stiff. Speaking of the falcon, it's pretty nice. Something is off with the right-most tail feathers, but I can't quite place it. Additionally, the lack of shading on the bird's perch, which I assume to be rocks, is really jarring. They feel very flat in comparison.
As for Andre the Halfling... Well, I like how you rendered his hair and clothes, his anatomy is quite problematic though. Either his neck is too thick, or his head as a whole is too thin. (One should generally be able to fit three heads' width from shoulder to shoulder, standing at attention.) On his face, his nose seems to be a bit too high up in comparison to his lips. There's also a rule about how there should be one eye's width between the eyes, this you did, but because of the size of the nose, they seem small. Furthermore, the ears seem to be sticking straight out from the side of his head. (I haven't watched the Hobbit movies, so IDK if that's good or bad, I just thought I'd point it out.) I really do like the shading on it, though.
Note: If you're going to take a photo and can't scan, try as hard as you can to take the shot straight on, taking it at an angle can skew things rather oddly.

Thank you for the feedback. I did totally mess up Andre. He was supposed to look like Bilbo... Not sure how the neck got that wide.

Re: Cuthalion (tries to) make a daily drawing.
I always like seeing when someone draws animals - I honestly have no skills in that area. I'm only good with humans and trees.
In a lot of the drawings the proportions are just a bit off, so try working on that. I would also like to see more depth, like tones and texture. It's a pain to practice drawing fur and the like, so maybe make a wee detail practice, like just the head, a leg, such things.Originally Posted by LaZodiac

Yeah, it's a bit stiff, and the face is a bit squished, due to paper size I imagine. Still looks great though!

A bit, yes. Mostly in the legs. Also, the back end of the cat looks extremely squared to me.
But I like it. Kitty!I go by they/them/their or he/him/his pronouns

Care to tell us about Today's Cuthalion?
It is inevitable, of course, that persons of epicurean refinement will in the course of eternity engage in dealings with those of... unsavory character. Record well any transactions made, and repay all favors promptly.. (Thanks to Gnomish Wanderer for the Toreador avatar! )

I'm a perfectionist and don't have enough time to work on it. As a result, I'm now five days behind. Need to sketch faster and more simply. Work on rough shapes.

I really like the ink drawing, I'm such a sucker for that medium. How about trying ink with animals? I think it'd be a brilliant way to explore creating fur.

The hands and feet are weird. Perspective is a bit off. Sweatshirt is huge. I'm about 6. Jeans are large.

Looks pretty good, points you mentioned aside. If you hadn't told me you where six I'd of assumed it was a monk, though

Re: Cuthalion (tries to) make a daily drawing.
Cuthalion, drawing children's hands and feet are like... the most annoying thing to learn. Damn it kids, why must you be so soft, round and squishy and not all rugged up like us grown ups?
Liking the shading you did on the clothing, brings nice texture. Would be lovely to see this coloured, or perhaps taken a bit further with tones and texturing with a pencil.
What kind of pencils do you have? Just a basic HB or similar, or a good range from hard to soft ends?Last edited by FinnLassie; 2014-01-16 at 11:08 PM.

Re: Cuthalion (tries to) make a daily drawing.
Well, I strongly recommend that you start using a large range of pencils as you already have them. I didn't learn how to use them properly until I went to the traditional drawing course my upper secondary school offered. I think the main rule is "the softer, the darker". Of course softer pencils can be used for light tones as well, but the effect is different.
