Re: Metal Thread VIII-Playgroundklok
Well, time to see what you're all doing with your lives :)
Might make Hellfest this year, actually, so I guess I'll see you (double) or something.
Also: Kataklysm, Krisiun and Fleshgod Apocalypse next monday, and Behemoth in February :D The year is starting good with the bands and stuff, and that after last year waned with Dying Fetus and Hypocrisy.
So, what have I been missing in the ol' metal thread?

Re: Metal Thread VIII-Playgroundklok
New Axel Rudi Pell album, apparently. I wasn't even aware of it. I'mma give it a listen.
Also Behemoth's new album is being postponed? Not something I care about, but my boss told me about it. I didn't even know he listened to metal.
Also maybe this year is the year that Hollenthon finally releases a new album.Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

Should I go for it?
And its wonderful to have you back Whoracle, we need to hang at Hellfest

Re: Metal Thread VIII-Playgroundklok
Plagues of Babylon finally came out here in the US, and I've now gotten a chance to give it a few listens.
It's a very good album. Powerful, catchy, and generally fun. I'd favor Dystopia out of the two Stu's done with them though. The riffing was just more involved and the vocal melodies slightly more dynamic and interesting on the last one, whereas Plagues of Babylon scales it back slightly on those fronts to get more of a pounding, heavy vibe.

Re: Metal Thread VIII-Playgroundklok
Just a shame about that hideous outro.
you work for Hellfest now
What is wrong with this world.
(That's pretty awesome by the way )
Edit: Oh! My current favourite band Thrawsunblat released their first LP last year (as we all know), and since they've also released a three-song EP with acoustic versions of some songs, which was... actually pretty good. But also recently they've released another EP of a bunch of their songs in 8-bit, amusingly named Thrawsunbit. They just seem to be ****ing around at this point.Last edited by Feytalist; 2014-01-27 at 07:23 AM.

Re: Metal Thread VIII-Playgroundklok
Guys. I just discovered Aeternam. This is awesome. I haven't heard music quite like this since Hollenthon. Why there isn't more Arabic-inspired metal like this I'll never know. Just listen to it.
Oh and Agalloch's newest is set to be released May 13. Someone go and steal it before then, please.
Oh hey, Drudkh. I quite liked their previous album. I'll give it a spin.Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

Re: Metal Thread VIII-Playgroundklok
Looks like Epica's new album will also be released on May 13.
If anyone cares about that. Except me.
What else is coming out? We've Got Agalloch, Epica, Emigrate, Woods of Desolation. Time II should already have been out, but I'm not holding my breath. Also Eluveitie promised us a new Evocation, which I'm sort of intrigued about.Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

Re: Metal Thread VIII-Playgroundklok
I've heard rumors of a Rammstein DVD coming out, maybe this year. But if RZK is in the States putting together the Emigrate album, the Rammstein release may be much later in the year.
Hmm...that would make an incredible Christmas release....especially if it came with word of a tour next year. Especially if they came back here...

Re: Metal Thread VIII-Playgroundklok
I'm not a certified metalhead. I grew up loving Ska, which is metal's antithesis, so it was only very recently that one of my metalhead friends convinced me to try some bands.
That said, I listen now to almost exclusively Norse (and a little Celtic) Folk Metal. Bands like Tyr, Falkenbach, Hammerfall, Turisaz, etc. I love it on days when I need a surge of rape/pillage/burn-it-all adrenaline, and it does very well.
Plus, it makes great background music for Skyrim, or Dark Souls, or Dwarf Fortress.Last edited by zephyrkinetic; 2014-02-06 at 09:20 AM.
I carve wooden replicas of swords and other weaponry, both historical and fantastic. Google "The Splintersmith" for my Facebook, YouTube, and Etsy pages.

A note: A "hoard" is a big pile of coins, usually with a dragon or high-level dwarf on top. A "horde" is a big pile of Orcs, usually with a dragon or a high-level dwarf on top. Thank you.

Re: Metal Thread VIII-Playgroundklok
There's a band called Caladan Brood.
This has made my day.
I just read the most awesome one-sentence review:
"this album is like when you try to attain the only thing you love, and ****ing fail eternally"
For An Autumn for Crippled Children. Best. review. ever.
Also I'm a 100% certified Falkenbach fanboy. Just to put it out there.Last edited by Feytalist; 2014-02-07 at 04:39 AM. Reason: let there be formatting

Re: Metal Thread VIII-Playgroundklok
A MAN CAN DREAM.
The instrumentals sound pretty solid.
However, when it comes to vocals in Depressive Black Metal, there's often a very fine line between epic, and silly. The vocals on this track felt... kind of silly.
Tim Yatras is the God of Depressive Black Metal... just sayin'...Last edited by Nameless; 2014-02-07 at 01:10 PM.
