    I live!

School was being school, everyone, sorry - but the first post has now been updated. I just had my last final yesterday, so I should be more on top of things now. (Kudos to Gwynfrid for making me crack up with the most recent summary, FYI.)

I didn't even bother trying to come up with something for that one, because I knew someone else would do better. I was not disappointed.

I think I like Unbeliever's proposal better. The only suggestion I'll make is to say, High Priest of Hel, rather than "Durkon". It's pretty minor though.

"Durkon" (in quotes) matches the summary of 961, the only other specific mention of that character we have. I'm not particularly attached to it, just explaining why I used that.

As worded, the summary of 961 only makes sense because it says "Durkon". But the term, High Priest of Hel, is used in all other instances (3 of them so far). Now, I realize I'm being super-nitpicky here. This is really not a big deal.

Wow. Somehow I missed all three of those. Yeah, it should be High Priest of Hel. I was just trying to be consistent with the summaries that were there. Frankly, if I had never looked, I'm pretty sure I would have gone with High Priest of Hel or maybe HPOH.

Just as a comment on this discussion, while it is pretty insignificant whether the summaries use particularly consistent terminology, it does help when searching to see how frequently a particular thing or character is mentioned in them. Which I have done in the past.

Inasmuch as we have a 'policy', I tend to prefer "HPOH/High Priest of Hel" as the relevant name for summaries unless "Durkon" is particularly appropriate, as in 961.

Also, I prefer Unbeliever's proposal as well.

I beg to differ. This needs to be recorded somewhere (such as the Index, for example), but not in the summary. The summary is a compressed version of the storyline, while the cameo explanation is commentary.

I'm afraid this way of doing it doesn't work well, for summary purposes. It's just too cryptic: Nobody will get it, except a tiny minority of forum dwellers. The summary should be focused on clarity and simplicity, imho, not on cramming in every bit of related information.

Do you include "extras" in the strips? I'm trying to find the strip that has the sketch of Rich at Comic Con in it but am not seeing anything in the summaries...

We don't. The purpose of the summary is to facilitate finding a particular strip, and we do that by summarizing the events in the plot. I'm not sure what sketch you're referring to, by the way. Is that the one with Rich drawing somebody's character?

Thing is that sometimes people want to find strips that have distinctive non-plot features without knowing exactly where they were in the story - both of the preceding things being examples of that*.
I think it would make sense to mention those in the summary where possible.

*it's #146 for the sketching, btw.

It would be appropriate in the transcription, I guess. Also, since it's a one-time event, I suppose we could allow it in the summary, as a footnote. But that should really remain an exception.

On the other hand, if we start adding "distinctive non-plot features", a very vague definition that would catch a very wide variety of things, then very quickly we would end up with a huge, bloated wall of text, and thus we'd defeat the purpose of the Summary. Not to mention the question, what's a "distinctive feature"? Trying to decide if something is distinctive enough would spark endless debates.

Well before you do all that, let me go ask Transcription what they think, because it really should be there first.

Was this the only case of an "easter egg" after the strip? It's the only one I can think of.
