The recent death of his father and his subsequent ascent to the position of Khan weighed heavy on Dyamus's mind as he sat in the great oak chair within the inner sanctum of Sapphire Stone, the pseudo-capital of the Woodwind people on the western shore of their land. For many generations the Woodwind people had been content to hunt and gather within their lands, fishing on the coasts, hunting in the woods, and settling in small villages and cities but now the world was beginning to turn and develop outside their lands and the Woodwind people were being forced to play catch up.

Dyamus knew his father had been starting to look outside their lands at the other peoples but when he had finally been given access to the scrolls containing his father's reports and musings he had been overwhelmed with the vast amount of other kingdoms existing within the world. Yet his father had written extensively on the necessity of developing peace between these other regions and Woodwind and Dyamus could not discount this plan though he questioned the optimistic meanderings of his father's texts there was definitely merit there and that merit had urged Dyamus to gather those who now stood before him: a Woods Walker known for his swift feet and sharp mind and two merchants who had up until this day operated within the cities on the coast.

He addressed the Woods Walker first, "I hear stories of your fleet feet and skill at navigating the woods, are they true?"

The younger man inclined his head, "Yes Khan, I am the swiftest hunter within my village."

"Good, then you shall take this message," Dyamus pulled a scroll of parchment from his robes, "to the east to the land of fire known as Calorum and give it to their leader, I believe he will likely ask you to return a message to me, do so, but do not return here, travel to Stone Table where I will meet you."

The lad nodded and didn't bat an eye as he took the parchment and departed.

"Now, as for the two of you, I will be joining you in an envoy of peace and trade to our neighbors," Dyamus said, "Gather together a shipment of meats and timber large enough to satisfy a village, you have the rest of this year to prepare and then on this day in one year's time we shall depart."

The merchants, though looks of surprise flashed across their eyes, nodded and departed from the inner sanctum.

    .....

The trade caravans along with Dyamus waited near Stonetable for only 3 nights before the Woods Walker found them and turned over a parchment sealed with a fiery symbol embossed on wax. Unsealing it Dyamus read the letter and smiled, the High Priest had agreed to allow the Woodwind people to travel and trade across his land in exchange for Dyamus allowing his preachers and priests to come to Woodwind and spread the word of his Lord of Fire, very good.

Dyamus dismissed the Woods Walker back to the city and turned to the merchants and the caravan they had mustered, it was a sizable assembly and he hoped the reports on the resource situation made by his father held true. The first stop on their tour was the land known as Kasumor, a military might of a land with metals and men who knew how to wield them. The two nations had traded in the past, but never on such a large scale and Dyamus hoped their shared history would beget good agreements.

Dyamus met with their leader, Shïnguard Marius Earthguard, and the two hammered out a deal, the Woodwind people would trade their meats for Kasumorian metals and even further, the two were to enter a military alliance of mutual defense and offense with the more adept warriors of Kasumor traveling to Woodwind lands to teach the people their martial ways. The negotiations hadn't taken much time, only a month or two, but the trade proved to take longer though quite beneficial as one of the merchants had worked out a deal with a local smelter for quite a bit of iron to be transported down to Woodwind lands in the next few years once they had gathered a sizable stockpile.

With the Kasumor alliance dealt with Dyamus had dismissed the half of the caravan that had been transporting the meat and set out with the rest across Calorum lands and to the mysterious country his father's reports referred to as "The Heartwaste." If what the reports said were true it was quite a strange land filled with strange people, but also with strange and useful resources.

    .....

The travel across Calorum had been rather uneventful, a land full of preachers the caravan had been accosted through every town with priests of the Fire Lord and Dyamus was beginning to see why his father had not embraced the Fire Lord, it was almost frightening how devout these people were and Dyamus wondered whether he had made the right decision in allowing their teachings to spread to his lands, but alas having an alliance of spirit was just as good as one of trade, although trade was what he was here for in the land of the Heartwaste.

The land and people were odd, like people from dreams, Dyamus couldn't lay a finger on it, but there was definitely an oddity to them. Their caravan had been met at the outskirts of the land by a group of Heartwaste guards and after explaining who they were they had been escorted into the capital, a great palace made of frozen water that sparkled and shimmered like the Sapphire Shores of home and Dyamus and his people stood in awe of its magnificent beauty.

    .....

The meeting with the Queen of the Heartwaste had gone well, and Dyamus had managed to discuss terms of trade for Woodwind timber in exchange for Heartwaste metals and while the subject of the nation's unique and sought after liquid fire had been brought up Dyamus failed to see how such a resource would benefit the Woodwind people and not pushed the hesitant Queen in further negotiating for its trade. So the caravan had unloaded its timber and departed, back across Calorum lands and back to Woodwind territory.

Upon finally returning to his people Dyamus saw them in a new light, compared to the rising nations around them they were largely primitive and it would be easy, he thought, for the other nations to see them as weak. His father had believed that trade and alliance with these new nations would keep the Woodwind people safe but after his 3 years on the road Dyamus knew this was not the case. If the people of Woodwind wished to stand a chance they would need to learn to defend themselves, and while he had planned to wait for the Kasumorian representatives to arrive he knew he could wait no longer, and so he gathered his best and swiftest hunters, instructing them to begin organizing an army of bowmen and to not stop raising men into soldiers until eight seasons had passed. Dyamus sat heavily down into the chair of his father, into his chair, and began to contemplate the future.

Bloodfang took a deep breathe in. The light from the sun trickled into The Heart of the North, the beating and living capital of Sympolemou. The fresh mountain air danced and whisked fresh scents over his whiskers, gently caressing them and teasing them with the sultry passion of a seductress. He faintly made out the smell of a stew being cooked properly, with beets and carrots mixed in with fresh meat. His mouth curled ever so slightly towards a smile at that smell. He couldn't tell precisely where it was coming from, but he had wagered a guess that it was from one of the tribes in the mountains themselves.

The trickle of sunlight was interrupted in a flash, the blur of a wooden sword striking downward to cleave Duke Bloodfang. With a cool and relaxed gait, he stepped back and raised his wooden shield to block it. Another blow came swinging from the side, and Bloodfang was forced to twist his body slightly to shift his shield in the way again. His mind was sucked back into his pitched battle.

"Not all too fair to strike someone while they take in the sights, eh?"

The Duke's voice was deep, booming, and held a restrained strength to it that showed a vicious warrior and a caring father all at once. His slight smile turned into a full grin as he addressed his son, Queek.

"Is it fair to let my enemy go when he's bigger then me?"

Queek chittered back, shifting away as he twirled his two wooden swords. The remark only caused Bloodfang to laugh, his body shaking from his sheer force. The Duke towered over his son with a wooden shield (More akin to an oversized plank with a handle) in one hand and a wooden sword in the other. Stepping forward with his right paw, he swung his blade in an upward arc, eliciting his son to dodge away in a tumble. Far away from the fight, Virmiscus was sitting next to a stump to play a wargame with one of Bloodfang's advisors. Krick was wandering somewhere, and Snikk was within her nursery.

Continuing the tumble, Queek flipped himself back to his feet and lashed out, batting his fathers sword away, and lunging forward with his free hand. Bloodfang replied with a quick shield bash to the face, causing Queek to stumble back from the blow. The young Sympol did not have much time to regain his sense, for his father was already following up with a horizontal swipe. Queek dodged under the practice weapon, swiftly standing back up as the swipe passed over him, and smacked at the elbow with both blades. Bloodfang dropped his sword, imitating a yelp of pain, and pretending to lose function of his arm. Falling to his knees, Duke Bloodfang looked to his son and began to inquire in an almost practiced manner.

"Now, when an enemy is disabled from your weapon, what do you do?"

"Tell them they honored their land then cut off their head swiftly?"

"That's right. Decapitation is a swift, painless, and honorable death, and everyone deserves an honorable death."

Swinging his two swords, Queek imitated executing his own father. Laying on the ground playing dead, Bloodfang continued his questions.

    "Now what do you do?"

"I charge forward to find a new foe?"

Another wooden practice sword tapped against the back of Queek's neck, causing the young Ratfolk to jump and yelp in surprise.

"You check your surroundings to be sure none of his friends are there to stab you in the back."

Duke Bloodfang stood himself up, looking at the appearance of his War Chieftain. Acknowledging the silver furred Sympol, he quickly discarded his play weapons, directing Queek to keep practicing and stop by to play a round with Virmiscus. Turning back to his military advisor, he waited for the procedures to end before inquiring further on his appearance.

"My Duke, we have had several reports return from the scouts you had us send out."

Bloodfang nodded his head, turning back to his fortress as he strode forward, intent on returning to his seat of power.

"Good, good, and what do they say?"

"The rumors are true, in the not too distant land known as The Heartwaste there is a kind of liquid held within. Reports are sketchy, but they solidify the rumors of a powerful fuel and resource. One of my personnel attendants has been dispatched to work on negotiations for acquiring this liquid."

The black iron gates of the Fort swung open, the hulking form of Bloodfang commanding the gate keepers with but a glance. His figure was met with several hails and pleasantries, supplemented with the occasional military salute.

"And what of the far distant scouts? Transporting someone to Rapid Run Shore is not easily done, let alone a whole expedition from there."

"As was expected the myriad of ships we encountered were a unified force. Considering their extensive use of ships, a steady supply of our wood should persuade them. Failing that we can always employ more strong armed tactics."

Duke Bloodfang continued his march, entering his throne room to the sight of his several sycophants and harem maids clustered around his Iron throne. A small, skinny Red Sympol, bedecked in leather armor, stepped forward and presented the Duke with his sheathed sword. His claws grasped the leather hilt with bone crushing might, his fingers sliding over the pommel as he jerked it free of its leather sheathe.

"Speaking of conflicts and potenial skirmishes, how goes the expeditions into Pyronia and Domhan Abhaile?"

The Sympol Warlord flicked his blade about, watchig it dance in the air, and spin playfully in his hand.

"Better then expected. The people of Domhan Abhaile seemed willing to trade their fish, and it would appear our people will not be in want for the delicious taste of hot meat and simmering flesh. The Pyronians also seemed willing to open diplomatic relations, and I have sent another of my attendants, that chieftain from Clan Pestils, you remember him?"

"Yes, yes, always going on about the great battles he's been in, with a head so full of hot air I'm surprised he can stand."

"Yes, well, our scouts say the people of Pyronia are rather avid worshippers of the Lord of Fire, so I thought sending them someone less zealot and more warrior would bridge the gap fairly well."

Bloodfang looked at his iron sword, watching the light reflect off of it, and continued playing with it. His tongue tracing over it and eliciting a drop of blood in the process. Savoring it, he lowered the blade, and beckoned his War Chieftain to leave.

"Excellent work. That'll be all for today. You know what to do.... And make sure Queek does not come by the for next hour or so. I have another affair to take care of....."

And with that his grin cracked ever wider, a slight chuckle escaping him as he looked over the throng before him.

I, Lord Bordeux, do wish to inform you of the beginning of the Union of the North. The great leaders of the Sulvan Primarchy, the Kingdom of Ashenia, the Khalifate of Crima, and the Lordship of Bordeux, have together signed a treaty of defense and commerce. We offer the hand of peace, but we will not shy from battle.

From Lord Bordeux, Head of the Six

    2) To Queen Arko'sarra of Eyecradia,

We are glad that you have accepted the betrothal of my nephew, Griffon, to your own Lady Weiss. The address of Prince Akali to the court of Qarimos, year 330:

Our first priority must be to train spearmen for the Sea Guard. A thousand spears will protect us from raids and man our war galleys if such are required in future.

Second, to offer a defence pact to the Republics of Sidvarsa, lest they be conquered and we find a new and belligerent power to our North.

Third, to engage the Naomh of Domhan Abhaile in a trade agreement to exchange spices for timber. Early indications have been that the Priomhcine would be amenable to such an agreement.

Fourth, in case the first trade agreement fails to occur or may in future be brought to an end, we shall seek to trade timber for ships with the Duke Bloodfang von Troven of Sympolemou. Rumour has it a caravan of wood is on the way.

Last, the deep seas have always called my people. Our present galleys cannot brave the storms on the open sea, therefore I will be gathering experts to Qarta to make new designs and to try them and prove them against the waves.

    [Crima, Year 330]

Midnight. It was cold and sunless upon the steppe, but the moonlight shone across the land and the flickering of the campfire bathed the party in heat and light. All in all, it wasn't a large group: Five men and three women sat around the flames, clad in hides and chewing upon their bread and oats. All was silent save for the chirping of insects and the grazing of their still-saddled horses nearby. The fire crackled softly in the black, as forces great and small conspired to make this moment a reality.

The leader of the camp took another nibble from his iron-stiff traveling bread and was just about to strike it upon his shield once more to knock the weevils out, when a sound on the horizon caught his attention: Hoofsteps, coming quickly toward the camp. Just one, though, so probably not bandits.

Bandits had become something of a problem since the Khater had become the Cree. The hardline raiders broke off and continued, now preying upon their former compatriots. Even other groups of raiders had been less afraid to approach once the word had passed that the Khater had gone soft.

But that wasn't relevant right now. Umajin cleared his head of the tangent before refocusing himself on the issue at hand: One lone horseman, approaching the camp. Looking more closely, he could see that the silhouette had no lance, nor a bow, and was coming to a halt nearby. Suspecting that this was a messenger now, the Chieftain stated a command.

    "Speak."

The silhouette froze in mild surprise that he'd been noticed so quickly, but proceeded to dismount and move into the light unflinchingly.

"Chieftain Umajin, I have dire news for you."

The chieftain did not gasp like a foolish child at the revelation, but he quirked an eyebrow nonetheless. This was not some bandit, nor a simple messenger, but the personal herald of High Chieftain Ryazen herself. Or, as she insisted he call her whenever they met in person, "Mother".

"Tarjin? Have you brought word from Cree? Have the bandits grown bold enough to attack the capital?"

With a hint of sorrow in his voice, the herald choked slightly, not sure how to break the news gently. Soon enough, though, he relented.

"I'm afraid so, Chieftain Umajin. High Chieftain Ryazen managed to muster a defense and repulse the attack, but one of the brigand arrows slipped between her ribs and pierced her lung.

She had grown more frail with age, and we...we couldn't stop the bleeding in time. For better or worse, you are her heir and by Kh...Crimar custom, the title of High Chieftain passes to you, High Chieftain Umajin."

Another long moment of silence passed, even the crickets ceasing their chirping in what must have been shock, or perhaps just being disturbed by the horses. Finally, though, the newly-minted High Chieftain Umajin spoke.

"I had feared as much, given that you came personally. Where is my sister, Lady Therazen?"

    Tarjin nodded.

"She's been recalled from her patrol by the Bay. She'll be present when you are seated upon the throne."

Across the campfire, High Chieftain Umajin stood to his full, imposing stature, and threw down a carpet to smother the fire.

"We should ride for Cree, then. Every moment we waste is a thread unraveled upon our banner. My mother's intentions were noble, but becoming toothless creatures of peace and plenty will not stop the raids, and we should not pretend that they will.

Tarjin, I want a thousand horsemen patrolling our roads by the first snowfall. Never again will highwaymen harry us at every opportunity. They have asked for blood, and we will show them more blood than they ever desired.

Tyzen, we'll need more timber and iron to arm them, so open negotiations with our neighbors to the north and their neighbors to the north as well. Perhaps "plenty" can aid us after all, if not peace."

Even as he continued to bark out orders, High Chieftain Umajin mounted his horse and set off for the City of Cree. Surely his most trusted friends and allies could handle the preliminaries while he dealt with the ceremonies?

    Spoiler: Actions!

    1) Diplomacy with Bordeux, Sulvan's Folk, and Ashenia, which culminates in the formation of a four-way alliance and a convoluted series of trade agreements that somebody should probably elaborate on OOC. This was agreed upon in private discussion. This might technically be two or three actions.

    2) Raise 1000 troops, mostly light cavalry and horse archers.

1: A widely published proclamation, may it be heard and remembered:

I, Hazael Toranath II, King of Ashenia, Prince of Eseda and Castellan of Adrakand, do formally announce the entry of the most serene Kingdom of Ashenia into the Union of the North. May this alliance of peace and commerce forever add to our wealth and prosperity and those of our esteemed allies, the Sulvan Primarchy, the Lordship of Bordeux and the Khalifate of Crima.
May wisdom forever guide us and the spirits look kindly upon our deeds.
Hazael Toranath II, King of Ashenia, Prince of Eseda and Castellan of Adrakand
Signed and sealed at the Rotan Palace in the three hundred and thirtieth year of the standard calendar.

2: The Hall of Private Audience of the Rotan Palace, Adrakand:

The King's Marshall, Oriel Severad, had found himself summoned to the palace just after sunrise that morning, and thus arrived at the palace with his uniform in a significant degree of disarray. Upon his entrance through the silver doors to the Hall of Private Audience, he found the King had already managed to dress and was now having his hair braided by servants as he sat upon a marble throne signing documents.
    "Good morning Marshall."
At that moment, sunlight streamed through the stained glass windows on the eastern wall of the chamber. Oriel was glad he had already knelt in subservience to the King, else he would have been blinded by the stream of coloured light. Eventually he spoke:
"You sent for me Your Grace?"
"Indeed I did Marshall, and I do apologise for the earlier hour. Please rise," the King responded before continuing, "But this is a matter of great importance.
"I doubt you are aware of this Marshall, but High Chieftain Ryazen of the Crimar has recently died. Unfortunately, the circumstances of her death were not due to natural causes as is right and proper, but due to the traitorous arrow of a brigand. The terms of our alliance are most clear, should they need our assistance we must be ready to provide it.
"Alas, as you are aware, the army is currently in a terrible state, mostly due to my own ineptitude and the financial difficulties of the regency. As such, I desire that you proceed to Uranin and work on raising the army anew. By the time the year is out, we should have at least thousand horsemen ready to respond to any situation."
    "Light or heavy cavalry?"
"Light." He held out a sheaf of documents and a guard took them and handed them to Marshall Oriel. "These will ensure the necessary funds are available to you as well as ensuring that the Governor of Uranin will assist you. Be aware that you won't have any authority over civic matters, so work with the man no matter how much you don't get along."
His hair finished being braided, the King stood. "Leave as soon as you have made any arrangements you need to make here in Adrakand. May the spirits smile upon you Marshall."
With that, the King left the Hall through a side door followed by his servants. The Marshall remained for a moment as he looked through the documents the King had handed him before leaving.

    3: A Royal Wedding:

The arrival of Lady Alyssa Firestone at Adrakand was greeted by a great degree of pageantry. A lantern-lit feast was held in the gardens of the Emrid Palace in her honour, and it was there that she and the prince she was to marry first met. Out of tradition, they dined together at the head of the table, waited on by servants in richly patterned robes and entertained by musicians and dancers. After that night, it would be five days before they saw each other again for their wedding, after which they'd be expected to live together until the day one of them died.
Did they love each other? Probably not, they'd only just met after all. In time perhaps they would come to love each other, but who could tell?

Five days later, a procession departed the Emrid Palace. Riding on a black horse caparisoned in silver dyed silk and flanked by armoured standard-bearers, the Lady Alyssa was proceeded by twenty mounted guards and followed by her handmaidens on white horses, both those she brought with her and those provided for her since her arrival, monks bearing candles to represent the spirits and a troupe of dancers, musicians and acrobats who whirled through the streets behind the formality of the rest of the procession.
The wedding itself was a simple affair. The procession dispersed upon reaching the Rotan Palace, the guards to their barracks to await the feast that evening, the handmaidens to prepare Lady Alyssa's new chambers and ensure her belongings were properly transferred and the entertainers to prepare for their performance that evening. Behind closed doors and with only the King and Queen of Ashenia as witnesses, an elderly nun conducted the simple ceremony that solidified the union of Prince Hazael and Lady Alyssa, and they were formally and officially married.
The celebrations that night lasted until the early hours of the morning, and included not only feasting and dancing, but the giving of gifts to the new princess. The twenty guards who had accompanied her on her wedding procession were now hers to command and the standard bearers were her personal messengers and heralds. In addition, she was gifted dresses, jewels and a silver mirror by the nobles of Ashenia and wealthy townspeople of Adrakand. It appeared that even if she was not fond of moving to a new country and marrying a man she did not know, the Ashenites were fond of her.

[Somewhere beneath Lyradis, in the caverns of Razdis, Year 330]
    Drip.
    Drip.
    Drip.

Water slowly made its way down the stalactites of the cave. In the complete darkness, nothing stirred but the water and a small group of dwarves, seated at the center of the vast chamber.

"Now I have ascended to the rank of Mormaer, changes shall be made. Too long have we grubbed in the darkness, ignoring other nations save Lyradis above. It is time to advance."
A turning of heads in the darkness, a susurration of whispering dwarves.
"Be silent. My commands are thus:

Firstly , whatever forces we have are not adequate. If anyone assailed us, we would be forced to cower in these caves. Whilst that was my late father's policy, that era is behind us. Arm 1000 Razdissi and half-humans, if they'll serve. Heavy infantry, fit for tunnel fighting, with traditional short sword and shield."

A couple of couriers left the cave at a run, heading to the smiths quarter and to the barracks of the current, tiny, town guard.
"Secondly, we need to branch out into the world through other means. You all know my son, Ambvard. He shall be sent to the north, to Tekorva. Their latest Elder will be a powerful ally, not to mention a good wife for Ambvard. He will be escorted north by the end of this Shou. (the Kasumori term was pronounced oddly in the otherwise pure Razdissi Dwarven dialect) Also, another marriage. My elder son and heir, Razkai, will be marrying Grelod Earthsmite, of Keldagrim. They're still dwarves, even if they are not entirely of our heritage. Speaking of that, we should stand united. I am declaring an alliance between all Dwarven nations, to outlast the very world itself. On a more pedestrian note, we need wood. As I'm sure you all know, Andbar's Forest will not provide us with spear shafts, nor firewood, unless you want to be overly enlightened. Domhan Abhaile will provide, in exchange for our iron and coal. That's all I have planned, I will call you to council again when great need arises. I bid thee farewell, lords of clans.

Oh, one last thing; I'm not holding council in this dank cave again. Build me a somewhat dryer hall."

When the new Mormaer finished his address, the other Razdissi dwarves filed out into the more frequented tunnels. Razkai had made his first mark upon the world above.

Calafiort, the Domhan Abhaile, Year 330

Council Room of the Five Chieftains

Fionn waited patiently upon his throne for the last of his chieftans to arrive. Four were already seated at the round table where the leaders of the Domhan Abhaile met, the flickering of torchlight casting shadows over their faces. Diarmuid Monahan, chief of the Togalai, a wiry man whose hands bore the weathering of many years building ships. Peadar Kearney, the Sliabh's chieftan, was a mountain of a man, with many braids in his beard and hair. His people lived in the Frostpeak Mountains far to the north, and Peadar was a mighty warrior. Keelin Coghlan, of the Aoire, an old and clever crone, one of Fionn's father's dearest friends. Last at the table was Torin Curran, lord of the Riasc tribe. They lived on the edge of Samhnas Swamp, and were a strange, reserved people, none more so than Torin.

The door to the council room swung wide, and the last of the five chieftans entered. Maeve Spiorad, or Lady Fiain, as she had taken to calling herself. The Fiain lived within the Crannmor Forest, and were wild and proud, the last to join this new nation. Maeve took her seat directly across from Fionn, not seeming to care that she had been late. Nor giving the proper respect to her Naomh.

    "Lady Fiain, you are late."

"Yes, Fionn, how clever of you to notice."

The two leaders locked eyes, an uneasy silence filling the room. Fionn was not normally one for confrontation, and all assembled knew it. This behavior was strange for the young Naomh. Eventually, Maeve averted her eyes.

"My apologies, Naomh Sheenan, fellow chieftains. This humble one begs your forgiveness."

Each of the chieftains gently murmured their forgiveness, and Fionn gently inclined his head.

"Now that we are all assembled, there is much to discuss. Peadar, I believe you mentioned the Sympol had sent an envoy over the mountains?"

The mountain chief cleared his throat, and rose. "Yes, Naomh. The ratfolk came under banners of peace. While my tribe has had some skirmishes with them before, it seems our union under a single leader has made them consider some form of alliance. At the very least, they seem interested in trading some of the iron that comes from the northern mountains for part of our fish surplus."

Diarmuid coughed, and stood as well. "On the topic of trade, a group of merchants from the south has made port. They call themselves the Sea People, from a place named Qarimos. They have come looking for wood, as their people are masterful ship builders, but lacking in the material for it. They offer a source of spices, things that can preserve and flavor meats. I tried some, and found it delicious. We could also stand to learn a thing or two about their boat building."

"We've also made contact with a dwarven caravan, from Razdis" Keelin piped up, not standing as was custom. She had grown a bit old for custom. "They've taken a liking to our trees as well, and offer iron and coal in return. We'll have a good amount of metal flowing into the country, and coal burns hot and long."

Fionn nodded to each of the chieftans in turn. "Our neighbors have seen our peace, and wish to share in our bounty. I personally approve of establishing trade routes with the Sympol, the dwarves, and these Sea People. It shall be put to a vote."

As it almost always was, both votes ended four in agreement, one opposed-Maeve. As Fionn himself motioned a vote be cast, he was not allowed to vote, as the law said. This also had the benefit of keeping ties from forming, as their council was six in number. But Fionn seethed with anger, as Maeve again showed her disdain for the Naomh.

The rest of the council went without much fuss. Plans were made for a group of volunteer warriors from each of the tribes to form a sort of guard, to keep the roads and mountain passes safe for trade to be conducted. Various minor grievances were aired between the chieftains, which Fionn resolved without any trouble. As the meeting concluded, and the five chieftains were shuffling out, Fionn asked the Lady Fiain to remain a moment.

"And what does my Naomh require of his humble servant?"

"Maeve, enough. This is the third council you have been late to since I became Naomh two years ago, and we've only held four. The council voted unanimously that I should succeed my father. If you had any objections, they should have been spoken then. You show me great disrespect."

    "I assure you, my-"

"I'm not interested in your posturing, Maeve. I just want to know why."

The torches had almost burned out, and Maeve took a step closer to the young shaman. "The Fiain have never been sure of this...union, Fionn, and neither have I. Your father was strong, strong enough to lead us. We have no proof you are."

"I assure you, Maeve, if you ever have occasion to test my strength, I will be more than ready."

"Bold words, oh noble son of Toirneach. Perhaps on your next visit to Crannmor, I will take you up on your offer."

    "Is that a threat, Maeve?"

The chieftain laughed, and bowed to the Naomh. "Fionn, you always were so very serious. Just like your father. I mean no disrespect. There are many ways the Fiain test each others strength, including some you might find enjoyable."

Fionn was silent for a moment, and then bowed in return. "That will be all, Lady Fiain. May the earth be soft beneath your feet."

"And may your seas be calm, Naomh Sheenan."

Thus was the fourth Council under Naomh Fionn concluded.

Beneath Sulvan's Summit lays Sulvan's Fortune, a great vast chasm which hosts the capital of the Sulvan Primarcy, the capital city of Sulvan Prime. The city itself is dominated by towering stone citadel which appears like a massive mountain inside the chasm. The castle of Paragon's Might, seat of power of the Sulvan Primarchy since its founding by Sulvan himself.

At the center of the citadel is Founder's Throne Room, where in front of a towering statue of Sulvan himself, lays the Mithril Throne. The entire Citadel was built around a Mithril vein, and the throne was a large Mithril block which had been sculpted to resemble a throne.

Year 335, second cycle of the sun, 7th pyrith: Mystery, Day of Mystery, Shïnguards chambers

"the last few years were a rulers nightmare, armies popping up everywhere and more alliances being make then fingers on my hand!" Marius complained while he was walking back to his chambers. "It can't be that bad, father. What is wrong with other countries befriending eachother?" Nyllana, his heir, came flying down from the ceiling beams and sat on his shoulders, keeping her balance with both her tail and wings. "It would not be a big problem if I knew for sure that all countries would befriend me, my dear. However, I think I can get to know that shortly. How would you like to go to a royal ball to meet the other rulers of this world?" Nyllana's eyes widened and her wings fluttered in joy. So much even, that she almost lost her balance and fell off his shoulders. Marius grabbed her hand to keep her balance and laughed. His daugher was still not completely used to moving inside, even after 15 years of practise. However, that was one of the few things she had not mastered yet. She would be a fine heir. "Be carefull, little fly, or else you may damage those pretty wings of yours. Still need them to get yourself a pretty boy, y'know?" "DAAADD!!" Nyllana yelled and fiercely fired a barrage of punches at her father's head, while he was laughing evily. "What is this noise so late in the evening?" Did it came from around the corner. "Nothing dear, just teasing our precious daughter about her lack of a boyfriend." Marius said against his wife, who had now cleared the corner and looked at his with a little smile on her oh so pretty face. "Dad is being mean mother!" Nyllana sobbed. "He will get punished by me soon enough, sweetheart. Just go to bed." "Yes mom, can I play with Ryella for a little while though?" The young Cloudiz asked her mom, while she applied her puppy-eye tactic. "Fine fine, but if I see or hear anything in 30 minutes, no breakfast for you tomorrow, understand?". "Ok!, thanks mom!" after which Nyllana ran towards her room to probably discuss the ball with Ryella, but you never knew with girls this age. "So yeah, you were going to punish me, my Queen?" Marius teasingly asked. "Yes, you going to tell me all whats on your mind and then we're going to discuss our current family situation." Helena said with a devious smile on her lips. "Yes dear, I am yours to command." Marius made a mocking bow and went inside their bedroom. "Well, alot happened these last years and I'm just ready sorting it all out. I'll give you the important matters. Firstly..........."

*Year 331, first cycle of the sun, 2rd pyrith: Prowess, Day of Mystery*

"But Ignias, there must be something else, I tell you. The Lord of Fire couldn't possible be responsible for all the extensive technology in the world alone!" Laos said against his esteemed sword-priest colleague. "But don't you think that is heresy? We are abandoning the Lord of Fire, I will not allow it!" Ignias said firmly. "No no no, the Lord of Fire must be working together or be part of a bigger whole, a greater being, something with control beyond that of fire. A god of physics, souls and life, a god that lets us go forward." "Hhhhmm" Ignias said, "that does sound very convincing and we aren't abandoning the Lord of Fire with that approach. I'll set some acolytes onto it and see what we can discover."

    1:
Fire is a major drive for technology, so the Lord of Fire must work together with or be part of a bigger whole. First theories of the Lord of Fire being part of a greater being made.

*Year 331, first cycle of the sun, 4rd pyrith: Steadfast, Day of the Cloudiz*

My Shïnguard, we have perfected the breeding process of our Mantids. It is done as you commanded and envisioned. We have mated the biggest, baddest Vermin of them all, gaining a number of fast, brutal and fairly intellegent breeds. They should now be ready for usage by our army, for both defence and offence. All of this is detailed in the scrolls you recieved, personally written by myself. Sir, this is really a work of art, a real gift from the Lord of Fire, or even Ashmar. May our prowess never fail us.

    2:
Giant Vermin taming process completed, mass taming/breeding Vermin. (Marius C-5 Action)

*Year 332, first cycle of the sun, 3rd pyrith: Pride, Day of the Mantis*

"Laos, we have found it!" Laos heard a familiar voice yelling when he was sitting in the Great Library. When he turned around, he say Ignias running towards him, his arms full of scrolls and his long white beard comically flapping around like a dirty piece of laundry being played around with by the wind. "Here!" Ignias said triumphantly, dumping his scrolls on Laos' desk, "Our evidence at long last." When Laos looked through the scrolls, his eyes widened in amazement. "Have you showed this to the Shïnguard, Ignias?" Ignias expression changed from triumphant to that of someone who is deep in thought. "Not yet, I wanted to be absolutly sure of my case before I presented my findings. You know that the Shïnguard is kind off fond of proper evidence. However, these ancient scrolls should do the trick!" Laos smiled, "I think so too, my friend. We could maybe even get a promotion out of this!"

    3:
Sword-Priests finalized theories about Ashmar. There IS something other than the Lord of Fire, the Lord of Fire is just part of a bigger whole. Technology and Fire make something greater than the sum of its parts: The God of Progress and Life: Ashmar.

*Year 333, second cycle of the sun, 6th pyrith: Vengeance, Day of the Beetle*

"So as you see, my Shïnguard, the evidence is as solid as 400 year Shïntuite. The Lord of Fire is actually part of Ashmar, God and Lord of Progress and Life." After their presentation, Ignias and Laos took a step back, nervously awaiting the Shïnguard's reaction. Marius Earthguard kept looking through the document for another 10 minutes, during which a deep silence settled in over all people present in the throne room. The evidence they had collected had been so compelling that most, if not all by now, priests of the Order of Prowess were already convinced. Eventually Marius looks up, his eyebrows wrinkled from being deep in thought and he said: "Good job gentlemen, I never thought I would see such compelling evidence for a religious matter as this. You have my thanks. All priests have my gratitude and are dismissed to your quarters. I have quite some thinking to do myself." With this, he left the throne room, his 13 year old Cloudiz daughter flying towards him to ask for an explanation. The doors were shut behind him and they were alone. For a second or two, it was silent. Then, a big cheer spread through the priesthood like a wildfire, priests were hugging eachother, congratulating each other with their success. The Shïnguard had not rejected their research. More so, he showed great interest and gratitude towards it. Ignius and Laos looked at eachother, a great grin on both of their faces. "I think that promotion might be closer than we think, dear Ignius."

4: Inner circles of the Priesthood of Prowess are beginning to accept new religion. New religion comes to the attention of the Earthguard family, who are greatly interested.

*Year 334, second cycle of the sun, 1st pyrith: Kindness, Day of Beauty*

    Lieutenant Kyriph Bladeshatter: Log #31
We have successfully reached the border of Kasumor and rendezvoused with the People of Woodwind. Of the 305 people we have brought along, all survived and none of the supplies have been lost. The carts with supplies also survived the journey intact. We also met up with the leader of our escort into the country. After a brief introduction, we were led about 100 miles inland to a good position in the bend of a river. There, we exchanged goods and services. We begin the militairy training of the People of Woodwind after the village is established, which should take around 3 weeks. The priests are already looking forward spreading their new finding around, whatever those may be. I'm not very into the specifics of religion. All in all, a good start and a promising future for this alliance.

331 of the Common Era, 6th year of the reign of King Andust the Bold
King Andust the Bold signs the bottom of the page with a thick, yet elegant, scrawl.

"This treaty formalizes our friendship with Bereginia in a historic fashion. The wards and fosterlings will allow our next generation to become ever closer to each other. A formal pledge of protection to Bereginia will let the world know how seriously we take our promises, and that we are an honorable people."

332 of the Common Era, 7th year of the reign of King Andust the Bold
Another day, another treaty, but this one is economic only. Trade between The Kingdom of Celero and the Kingdom of Genivana has begun, with much needed vegetables and grains coming into Celero.

"These Genivanese are exactly the most difficult kind of hagglers. Iron for food? Almost preposterous. But then again, if your people can't eat, they can't benefit from a precious natural resource that is in demand throughout the world. Qualton? Be sure to send King Zuberi Nia-Rohana some fine furs as well. Enough to make a presentable gift to a king, from a king. Hopefully with his warmer climate doesn't see these furs as an insulting offer of luxury, and instead as an extended hand of friendship."

333 of the Common Era, 8th year of the reign of King Andust the Bold
King Andust stood before his men, shovel in hand, covered in the dust of the construction project.

"I break ground here today, to ensure our great nation’s economic future. Celero should been seen as a haven for all traders, a safe path from east to west for goods to travel uninhibited by bandits and raiders. These roads will help us endure hardship, and the patrols will protect our prosperity."

334 of the Common Era, 9th year of the reign of King Andust the Bold
The King stood at the port with his five children and his bastard nephew.

"Kuri, I hope you understand the important task I have entrusted to you. You are to be the head of this merchant fleet someday, so you must learn to trade, and fight, and lead men into battle. Someday you may earn yourself legitimacy, and even a noble house and title of your own, but for now, you need to learn to trade, and be prepared to protect the realm for me, and your future Queen, Cousin Yasira.
"Yasira, you need to put faith in your cousin Kuri, and in my decisions to give you a governable realm. You shall need to rule one day, and I hope to make the burden as light as possible with the preparations I lay."

335 of the Common Era, 10th year of the reign of King Andust the Bold
A tear swelled in Andust's eye, and he held back the emtional storm brewing inside him.

"Kinil, it pains me that I cannot put my most capable child on the throne, but you are born out of wedlock, and can never inherit my titles and honors. The best you can hope for is to prove yourself a worthy general for your sister, your future queen. In this way you will serve your sister and the kingdom in the best way your talents can.
"I know you took it as a slight when I appointed Kuri to take command of the Navy last year, but a finer tactician I have never met, in you. Kuri is bright, but does not grasp battle as well as you. That is why he trains in his father's shadow. He could never learn what he needs to know on an open field of battle, but on the sea, under his father's tutelage, he may become a great admiral. You, however, are already prepared to lead armies into battle."

A nightmare was what this was. Herzog realized that fact when he remembered that he had done this every night in his dreams. Killed his brother again. Or almost did. The dream would always stop then. Just before the Hearth blade cleaved his brothers’ head from its shoulders. Ended five months of war. Done what needed to be done. He had been forced to do this, and it didn’t make him any happier. But it was a burden he would bear with the other he boar. With pride, and the hope that his children would not need to bear them.

Year 20, Jaten Era, Autumn [331]
"This is an outrage!" one of the council members bellowed as she stormed into Jaten's work area, "It goes against everything we as a people stand for!"
"How dare you. Remember your place!" Elder Jaten spits at the red-faced council member. Were it not for her upbringing, Jaten felt sure she would execute this imbecile there and then for her insolence.
"If you cannot see the benefits of this wedding, you no longer have a place on my council." Jaten sweeps a hand in front of her, dismissing the ex-council member. Sighing heavily, Jaten continues to tiller her new bow.

The realization that not everyone in this world were peaceful had hit the people of Tekorva hard. Yet, even in these dark times a ray of light shone in the form of strange short people who call themselves the 'Dwarves'. Intrigued, Jaten had inevitably become close to Ambvard of the Razdissi. Much could be learned from the Dwarves. Now if that is 'against everything we stand for' Jaten would eat her shoe.

Besides. Tekorva is in grave need of powerful allies. Rumours from the borders indicate the mobilization of hostile armies.

    The Calorum Council chambres 330

After the humble prayers of the priests have returned to silence, a priest sitting on a large and magistic chair speaks.

Combulei: ‘I have not slept, nor have I doused. This night I have only prayed. I have prayed for to the Lord seeking advice and he has answered. I have learned his will and am expected to perform on his behalf.

First of all he wants us to help the world by spreading the faith. He has even used his power to grand Khan Ignato the wisdom needed to accept the Lord.
Khan Ignato has asked us to help him educate his people, teaching them and thereby spreading the faith. Therefore we shall send missionaries to the woodwind lands and allow them to pass trhough our lands for trading purposes!

Secondly, for safety and trading purposes, we will sign a pact with High Guildmaster Loki Ethmorl and King Nia-Rohana.

thirdly we will create an alliance with the good people of Pryonia, who are also on very good terms with the Lord. Unfortunately the Shïnguard of Kasumor has not jet allowed us to travel through his lands jet so will shall have to wait before any trading can be done.

Transcript of the address of High Guildmaster Loki Ethmorl to the Nine Guilds, in the second month of year 330, common calendar.

    Guildmasters of Hrathan and Tuor,
I am pleased to announce that our overtures to Calorum and the Kingdom of Genivana have been successful. Both nations will open their borders to our merchants, as our borders shall be open to theirs. I am certain that this new era of friendship and trade between our nations shall be an age of greatness and prosperity.
However, I am not blind to what goes on in the tunnels of Hrathan and on the streets of Tuor. The subject of religious tension has been a forbidden topic since my father issued his edict of toleration. It is now known that the Lord of Fire worshipers outnumber the followers of the old ways in our lands. This, combined with our new alliance with the priesthood of Calorum, has raised some questions as to my intensions. I can assure you, that the old beliefs are in no way in danger. However, I will not allow the more radical factions to ruin our relations with our new ally. Henceforth, the shamans and preachers of the old ways shall no longer be allowed to deliver sermons lambasting the Temple of Fire.
In order to ensure this edict is reinforced, I intend to increase the size of the military. And while we are on the subject of the military, it has come to my attention that our navy is outdated and in disarray. When more pressing concerns have been dealt with, I will look in to building a new fleet.
Once again, I thank all of you for your support. And no, I have not found a wife yet. Stop asking. I'll get to it eventually. Wha...? The Columbei's daughters are priestesses. Yes, all of them. It was in the briefing packet I sent you.
You mean to tell me you voted in favor of an alliance without knowing anything about them? We'll talk about this later, we're going off topic, and all of this is on record. No. I said no. Look, no insult to your house, but none of them are what I'm looking for. Hey, that was rude. Enough. Guildmasters, your atte-

4: A Betrothal and an Exchange of Knowledge:

Prince Korath, fourth child of the King of Ashenia, rode his horse in the midst of a group of seventeen much older and more experienced riders, ten were guards, one his tutor, another a servant and five horse trainers of note. The journey to Lyradis would likely take many weeks, if not months. Some would say the journey would be well worth it as at the end he was to be married to a woman of royal blood, the daughter of a king as noble in rule as his father. But to be truthful, he knew not what to think. The journey would be long, yes, but he would likely never return from it. If he loved the woman in question, it might be worth it, but they'd never met and he'd never seen her save for a portrait provided by a Lyradisian emissary. She was pretty though, so it couldn't be too unpleasant.
The part drew up at the top of a hill near the border of Celero, the long black hair of the riders billowing out from beneath their helmets. At times like this, Korath's father would say something wise or quote the works of ancient scholars. Korath on the other hand was a lot less well read, and all he could say was, "Well, let's get on with it."
With that, they crossed the border into the metaphorical unknown, the sun glinting off their horses tack.

The Lord of Lyradis took a seat on his throne, and looked out the glass windows on the far side of the hall to look out at the expanse of the Crest. Though it was early, the sun was already above the horizon by some measure, and it glistened through the windows warmly. The throne room was situated so that the sun would always shine into the chamber. It originally was a act of devotion to the Lord of Fire, but now it was just a adornment to the beautiful chamber. At least the craftsmen had enough sense to keep the throne back enough that the sun didn't shine in the eyes of the King, Gareth thought.

After a few long minutes of admiring the view, the King called for some food to be brought, and he waited. Lyra was the first to appear, dressed in brown riding pants and a blue lace. Gareth smiled. She was his favorite of his children, and she had earned the title. She would have made a wonderful ruler of Lyradis, had the world been a different place, or her body been a different gender. She embraced him warmly, murmured a good morning, and sat down in her chair to his left.

Jain and Royce came soon after their sister, in the midst of a dedicated conversation. The two had always been quite close, and it seemed that the edict their father had charged them in caring for their kingdom had no effect on their relationship. They were both as thick as ferns. The brothers seemed to be discussing something of import. The conversation ended abruptly as they approached the table, and they greeted Gareth with a bow, and took their seats at the map table.

It was not long before his oldest, Benjamin, entered the hall. "Father," he said curteously. "A day of beauty and bounty for you."

"And you, my son," returned Gareth, smiling. Have a seat, we have much to discuss. Gareth motioned to his right. After Benjamin sat, Gareth looked around and smiled. "It has been some time since we were all at the same table, my children. And we have much to discuss."

    Spoiler: 1: Jain's Action
    Show
Jain volenteered to start, and he had come prepared. Stretches of maps and diagrams, ledgers and estimates were placed upon the table in a haphazard fashion. "With the increasing amount of settlement up here on the crest, we absoultely need a more efficient way of getting up and down the mountain. Taking the long way around seriously effects what we gain or produce. This is where our capital is, and frankly, while the Crest is strategically grand, we could make it even more so.

"Therefore, I propose we begin construction on a roadway that we cut into the cliffs that make up the plateau in three areas (he gestures to the three points on the map), and in this way, wagons, craftsmen, and troops don't have to go all the way around the cliffs to get from the Crest to the highlands."

Gareth is obviously impressed with the proposal, but he wanted to test his son's plan, to ensure it was sound - "Jain, this is an excellent idea. But what about the natural defence the cliffs provide? One of the reasons we settled on top was to have protection from other nations, as well as some of the wild creatures that live in the southern swamps and norther forests. I would not advise compromising that security for the sake of ease."

Jain smiles. "You won't have to." He places a map down over the plans, and points. "These are plans for fortifications around the entry points. Gates and other devices will be implemented to maintain the protection the cliff wall in other places provides."

Gareth studied the plans, and nods. "And the materials?"

"We already get stone from the Dwarves in return for our grains, and have been using it for years in our constuction." Jain glances around. "The castle we are sitting in is mostly from the stone of the Dwarves. Materials should not be an issue. The only issue is time. Such a project, plus the forifications on the normal access points, is going to take a while..."

Gareth raises an eyebrow. "How long?"

"Without some assistance from other nations, or perhaps some sort of work animal that can lift large loads, my Craftsmen have quoted 20 to 25 years.

"So be it. Perhaps in time a faster way will be found. Well done, Jain."

Spoiler: 2: Benjamin's Action (those attending the ball should read this action)
    Show
Benjamin was next, and though he had come prepared with a rolled piece of paper, he did not place it on the table at first.

"Father," Ben said with apprehension, "I know the task you have set before each of us. You wish for us to better the nation of Lyradis, and you in the mean time will take care of diplomatic affairs. But I would like to propose a diplomatic action that would in some ways step into your territory of rule, but would I believe benefit Lyradis substantially, as well as our family as well." He pauses for permission.

Gareth furrows his brow, not in apprehension, but with curiousity. He motions his son to go on.

Ben breathes a sigh of relief, and continues with a renewed vigor. "What do you see before you?" he asks his family, gesturing at the table.

Lyra answered first. "A map of the continent?"

    Ben nods. "What else?"

"Well, we don't know much else." Royce interjects. "I mean, we are the peoples that have come together from many of the nations surrounding us. We don't have much in the way of contact with them, and they us. Live and let live."

"Right. That's actually my point. In the nine decades we've been in rule, we've only had one alliance. The Dwarves. One alliance."

"There have been reasons for this, Benjamin. Some of which I won't get into currently, but suffice it to say, some of our history with other nations was less than pleasant." Gareth remembered unpleasant times, and histories of worse.

"But now we've been here so long, we don't even know what countries are friendly or not. I mean, we've had some fleeting contact, and we know some basic information, but lets face it - it's just a matter of time before someone gets the idea that we are easy pickings. If we don't maintain contact with other nations, they're not going to hold loyalties to us should someone attack. We'll be alone with only the Dwarves to look to for help. And while the dwarves are a formidable ally, frankly it's time to find some more friends."

"Do not speak to me about what I already know. I have actually taken this matter into some consideration...but I will get to that in a minute." Gareth glanced at his daughter, and she returned a knowing glance.

Ben sighed. "It seems that right now, the nations are at peace. I see no better an opportunity to try and unite the nations in a more...social way. At least find who out potential allies could be and who we would benefit most from alliance." He unrolled his parchment and handed it to his father. "A ball. A Grand Ball. An open invitation to all countries, not only in an effort to extend the branch of peace, but to know who is willing to also return such efforts. And in this gesture, perhaps we can make some allies. Gain resources we desperately need. Protection."

The Lord of Lyradis a thoughtful grunt. "It would allow you to socialize with your peers of other nations. I am wary of sending the invitation to so many countries, but perhaps there is wisdom in this. We would not like nations to think we have favorites, even before we have chosen them ourselves." The King paused. "Yes. Very ambitious, Benjamin. I just hope it does not lead to disaster." Gareth then pauses to read the invitation.

    Salutaions[Insert ruler of nation],

A day of beauty and bounty for you and your kin. I am Benjamin Seregen, Eldest Prince of Lyradis, and it is with the utmost honor and pleasure that I send this letter. This message is sent in invitation for you and your family to join ours in a Royal banquet and ball. This event shall be located in the capital city of Delberelle, on the Crest of Lyradis. Along with this messanger is a guide, to assist you in travel to the event. The Ball shall take place in the Spring of the year 336.

This Ball is to celebrate our nations, and as hosts, we will provide accomidations and protection for your kin, and a small contingent of your entourage and guard.

In return for our hospitality, we only ask that you come with the mind of festivity. We do not require your alliance to attend: only an open mind and a heart of conversation, so that you may find who we are as a people, and who you are as well. Long have our nations been set apart by our own doings, and it is time to at least join together in a festive mind, and delight in our differences, as well as our similarities.

I look forward to your presence,
Benjamin Seregen, Eldest Prince of Lyradis

((This letter shall arrive by a small party to each country, addressed to each ruler.))

    Show
The Lord of Lyradis next turned to his daughter, and spoke plainly. "Benjamin and I seem to be of similar mind in terms of other countries. I have been cautiously extending diplomatic relations with specific countries. One of which, is the famed nation of Ashenia." He paused. "Ashenia is quite a ways away, and so in no small terms can we be a trade alliance, at least not in any accomidating circumstance."

Royce glanced at the map, and his brow furrowed. "How did you even contact the Ashenites, father? They are almost half a world away!"

"We've been in corespondence," Gareth said, "even if it was a very delayed correspondance. Honestly, we've been in conversation for many years. Lyra knows of this, because..." he pauses again. Her brothers had never known that she was betrothed. It was the king of Ashenia's request that it kept between them, but Lyra. Still he felt badly that this was the first his sons were hearing of her inclimate marriage. "...Lyra is to be wed to one of Ashenia's princes, Korath."

The three sons looked startled, and looked in open shock at Lyra. Lyra looked back at them, abashed.

"How long have you known?!" Jain asked hastily.

"Nine years, give or take. Since I was ten," Lyra responded awkwardly. She looked to her father for help.

Gareth took over then, and explained the situation. Both he and the King of Ashenia needed to play this one close to the chest. The marriage kept royal blood in the line for either side, and solved a few smaller details. Apparently, the political affairs taking place over in that area of the world were fragile, and so until the right moment, niether king really wanted to announce to the world their joining of families. As it was an arranged marriage, the two had never met.

"When will this happen?" Benjamin asked.

"Korath is on his way. He should be arriving next year, and the wedding soon to follow. Lyra and he will be abiding in Lyradis." At this, all three brothers shoulders dropped, the tension falling away. It was quite apparent at how much they loved their little sister.

"With the marriage, we will be sending Ashenia five of our best craftsmen to their lands, to advise and assist with the construction of civic projects in their lands. In exchange, they are sending five horse trainers to train riders, trainers and horses for our purposes."

At the mention of horses, Lyra perked up. She had always loved to ride, and had started a natural. Perhaps she and the prince would have more in common than she thought...

Spoiler: 4: Royce's Action, Road to Reconstruction
    Show
    Last was Royce.

"Royce, what are your plans?" Gareth asked curiously.

Royce stood from his seat and set down a map. The map had already sketched on it the same plans that Gareth had seen earlier for the wall, but this had other lines connecting to it, the lines like viens acrossed the map of the nation. Some of these ended in circles that obviously marked towns and ports in the highlands and lowlands, but some ended at places Gareth did not recognize to be anything of note.

"The land of Lyradis has long been known for it's civic engineering. My plan is to improve the regions roads due to the increase in trade. Jain and I have been working together to pool resources, and in communication with Razdis to open wider entry points to the lands below ours. This will increase trade and allow for more community with our allies below. The roads above in Lyradis will do well for transportation to cities, towns and villages, as well as create a better scope for our nation. I estimate this project will be done in 10 years at most, with the help of our craftsmen."

Royce was known for being direct and to the point. Upkeeping the nation's transportation system was a large ordeal. Gareth was impressed that he thought he could do it in a decade.

Gareth nodded and smiled. "It seems you all have large projects ahead of you. I wish each of you well. Now, with that, I have some closer kept secrets to tell you. Let us adjurn. I shall not say my plans where we might be overheard." Gareth smiled conspiratorily.

"Eh? What's that? Can't you see I'm busy? This new design I'm working on for the new ship is very fiddley, and I really don't want to see anyone. Also, tell the cook I'll be taking white wine with supper tonight. And book an appointment with the jeweler, would you? The rubies in my eyes are clashing with the latest fashions."
"But, Czar, the man looks important! He sailed quite a distance to get here, he says. From the Sea Peoples, he is, and he wants to talk about an alliance!"
    "Can't he see I'm busy!?"
"Czar, he isn't in the room, there's no way he could...!"
"Oh do go away. Tell the man I agree to everything. Give him a bottle of wine and a new robe. Offer to have his eyes bejeweled. Just do what it takes to get you people away from me! "

"Are you serious, chancellor. No need for a wall? Have you not considered, never speculated, what would happen if our nation fell? Our way of life would be gone, chancellor. Now, be a good boy, and start the construction now! Enlist the people! Train soldiers! On the double!"

    Spoiler: Actions.
    Show
And so I enter the game.
    1. Agree to the Sea Peoples alliance.
    2. Begin construction of a wall that wraps around the nation, Great Wall of China style.
    3. Begin training a militia to defend the wall.
I'm saving two actions for a bit later. Because the new patch doesn't come into play this turn, can I still use the old curiosity 5 action?

    Tumberink, Doge of Guilder:

[At this time, all of my actions are waiting on hearing back from others. However, if I don't hear back, my actions this turn are:

    1. [SECRET] [LOCKED]
    2. Raise Curiosity by 1.
    3. Research better, faster, and larger ships
    4. Alliance by trade and marriage with Celero. [LOCKED]
    5. Raise 10 Ships of War for naval combat (~1k Men) [LOCKED]

I'll get some fluff up once I know what my actual actions will be.]

    Spoiler: Signing the Treaties
    Show
"Hmmm..." Zeburi's eyes closed slowly. There was something... important... What was he doing...

    "My lord? The treaty?"

"Oh! Yes, yes, of course." It was right there in front of him. He had been reading it, but he was having a hard time staying focused. His brow was so heavy. He yawned. Pen... pen... He patted his lap, and the surface of his desk. It must be out here somewhere... Before he could get his thoughts in proper order a feather pen was thrust in his face.

    "A pen, father?"

"Thank you, son. Which treaty is this again?"

"The defense treaty with Calorum and Hrathan and Tuor."

"Ah, yes of course." He dipped the pen in the inkwell and scrawled his name, a long loopy scribble, at the bottom of the treaty. Mosi took the pen and finished writing his fathers titles to complete the treaty. He then rolled it up and sealed it with wax.

"I'll handle it from here, father."

    Spoiler: The Coronation
    Show
All the people of Dvipabedapura crowded the streets. The courtyard of the palace was overflowing. People were lining the walls and rooftops, craning their necks to get a better view.

"... I have chosen to do as my father before me. From today I am stepping down as your king. I will still be here though advising my sons on matter of state..."

The speech carried on for roughly half an hour before Mosi Nia-Rohana II approached his father. Zeburi lifted the crown of Genivana, a gilded wreath of vines bejeweled with 'fruits' of precious stones, and placed it on Mosi's head.

"Rise Mosi II, King of Genivana. May your reign be a blessing upon us all."

    Spoiler: Trade with Celero
    Show
King Mosi II laughed as he received the gift from King Andust. Furs. Of all things.

"Messenger, you say these were meant for the King, but did you perhaps mean my father?" Elder Zuberi was half mawa. His most obvious genimawa features were his long arms and thick mane of hair. Mosi on the other hand was 3/4ths at least. Thick red hair coated his body, what could he possibly want with furs. "I know Celero is far from here, but have they heard description of the Genivanan people?" The messenger floundered, unsure what to say. Mosi only laughed harder. "Do not worry. I know it was meant as a gesture of kindness." He gestured to a servant near by. "Take a selection of spices to your king. Tell him I appreciate his generosity."

    Spoiler: Prophecy
    Show
It was late. Mosi stood at the balcony looking out at the bay. The boats of Dvipabedapura seemed to go on for miles and the ocean stretched to the end of the world. He watched the moonlight shimmer on the crest of waves in the distance. The crests seem to raise higher and higher until a massive wave consumed the moon and washed the world in light. In that instant Mosi saw eternity stretch out before him. A thousand lifetimes of suffering and chaos. Vast throngs of people living, suffering, dieing. But each death, a seed planted and reborn. It seemed to cycle. Each was born, lived, died, and born again, but not always the same. It was chaotic. Wars were fought, many suffered and died. It was like a vision of hell, eternal strife.

But a voice broke through. It was... Tendaji? "Grandfather?" No... it was many voices. A face formed, ever shifting, in front of him. At times it looked familiar, but often it was foreign, sometimes it shifted to animals or even plants and stone. The voice filled him, resonated through his body and opened his mind. He saw past the suffering. The joy in each life. The love for each other. Suffering could end. A path coalesced before him and a great tree rose from the sea. All the stars in the sky were it's leaves, part of one great whole. And so it was. Each person on this great planet a small part of a single leaf. Each flowed into another, like rain collecting in a stream. The tree collapsed into an endless ocean of souls, and yet they were one great being. The first being, who subdivides infinitely into all other things. Thus all are his children, yet also him. A great calm swept over him.

The light cleared and Mosi watched the waves come in. The path was emblazoned in his mind.

332 Common Era, Seventh Year of the Reign of Krolowa Wladiljuda of Bereginia

Winding out of the tunnels and caves that lead to Bereginia, two trade caravans leave the subterranean queendom. One heads north, to Bordeux, whilst the other is headed east, to Gunung. Both are laden with iron ingots, with some samples of granite and light crystals to see if they can find anyone interested in those items, as well.

Send a trade Caravan North to Bordeux, and another to Gunung. Primary resource to trade: Iron, but granite and light crystals also provided to see if there is interest in those, too. The caravans primarily use Bereginian coins, made of marble, jasper and jet, rather than copper, silver or gold. I think this is two actions?

334 Common Era, Eighth Year of the Reign of Krolowa Wladiljuda of Bereginia

"Zelizlat, the union of nations to the North and the upcoming alliance to our East are worrying developments. Bereginia must be shown to be prepared, should the worst occur. I authorise you to raise two hundred soldiers from each of the Tribes. Then come back; I need an heir, and you shall provide." The Krolowa growls from the Jasper Chair, a throne carved from a single, gargantuan block of jasper. Her husband, with the bluish skin and webbed fingers of the Woda, bows deeply.
"Your will be done, Krolowa." He quickly rushes off to fulfil his queen's orders.

200 Swiatlo, to be trained as spearmen to fight in a tight phalanx.
200 Woda, to be trained as marines, using light armour and shortswords.
200 Ogien, to be trained as archers.
200 Ziemia, to be trained as heavy infantry with the heaviest armour available to their technology (I'm thinking lamellar) and two-handed stone hammers.

5: A proclamation and an act of foundation:

I, Hazael Toranath II, King of Ashenia, Prince of Eseda and Castellan of Adrakand, do formally announce the foundation of the University of Severikand and the granting of royal charter to that institution. May the scholars who choose to reside there gain ample wisdom and knowledge.
May truth never elude them and the spirits look kindly upon their deeds.
Hazael Toranath II, King of Ashenia, Prince of Eseda and Castellan of Adrakand
Signed and sealed at the Rotan Palace in the three hundred and thirtieth-fifth year of the standard calendar.

That same year, a fledgling institute in Severikand miles to the North of Adrakand took up residence in an abandoned monastery adjacent to the city's walls and the river Severin. It was early days yet, so their only subjects were law, astronomy, mathematics, history and philosophy. But they attracted students from the entirety of Ashenia, and in time, their influence as oldest university in the known world would gain them recognition from far abroad.

5: Foundation of the University of Severikand. Unless I am mistaken, it is the oldest in the known world. As stated, it only grants degrees in law, astronomy, mathematics, history and philosophy at this time, though technically, the idea of a degree hasn't occurred to them. They just say "I studied law at Severikand," etc.

Combulei, speaks one of the advisors, our neighbours are all raising armies. If we do not follow them they could easily invade us!

Combulei gives the man a deadly look. We shall not lower ourselfs to this behavior, have faith in the lord! He would never allow these holy lands to be trampled by infedels! We shall start building a great temple! One that is big enough to house the graves of me and all my ofspring! It must be the most magnificent building in the country
