The Chambers of High Priestess Fabula, Night

Fabula knew this was a dream. She knew it was not real. Yet she found herself unable to do anything. Visions flashed before her eyes, revealing their secrets to her, and she stood there, taking it all in, unmoving and scared.

The unforgiving picks of Sycia were aflame. The once cold mountains were burning, the ground itself set afire, creating an acrid smoke all around that rose angrily to heavens, mocking Fabula. Her homeland, the people she was sworn to protect, all those souls she was meant to lead to the eternal paradise, gone.

Everything was dying from the heat, even the fish in the sea. It was boiling, drying up. The trees we're black twigs, scrawny and burned like discarded matches. Life was non-existant in this hell. What had become of this world?

She heard whinnying, and her attention was drawn to the sky. A horrifying image sprawled out before her. Skeletal pegasi fly above, riding on their bony wings. Behind them they pull the sun, looking much too large, and seemingly pained, as if it was crying out against the havoc it was wreaking on the land, with shattered moons trailing behind.

Another image appeared nearby, one that truly caught Fabula's eye. There was a familiar face, a man she knew, but he was in danger. She tried to call out, to save him, but it was too late. A monk with illuminated skin shoved a sword right through the back of Paco Çimar Guzman. The murderer begins to cackle, and as he does, the world falls apart, it's time over, it's end had come.

Fabula woke up in her bed screaming, tears running down her cheeks, covered in sweat. As attendants rushed in to check on her, she shivered. She knew well those visions were not simply dreams.
"I must do something to stop this."

    Jarrland, 376

As was fairly typical, Pendred Isling was running towards the sound of shouting. The wooden halls of Jarburg - even the royal residence - were just about small enough that a sufficiently loud voice could penetrate all parts of them, leaving even the most dedicated skiver nowhere to hide from a chieftain with a sufficiently loud voice. Pendred wondered if that was how chieftains had originally been selected. The loudest men in each clan appointed chief, then generations of men having been selectively bred for loudness had a few years ago gathered together and decided that the loudest of them should be king.

Pendred had heard that in civilised lands, kings lived in palaces of stone, with something called "privacy", and if the king wanted someone he either had to go and find them himself or send someone to do it for him. Perhaps that was something he could casually introduce to Athelmark's program of civilisation.

"There you are!" Athelmark bellowed, on catching sight of Pendred. "Come and have a look at this." The king thrust a sheaf of papers in Pendred's direction.

"It's an invitation to the Grand Ball in Ignato. You've already replied. You're going, it's in the agenda..."

Athelmark was staring at him as if startled at his idiocy. "Not that. The other thing, this -" he squinted at it - "quinting queffs."

    "Printing press, lord."

"Yes, I can read that. What I want to know is, what does it do?"

Pendred examined the sketch and the accompanying notes. "It seems that it prints words. Rather than having someone write everything out by hand, you set up this device and it turns out sheets with all the words on it." Pendred's wrist gave a sympathetic twitch.

Athelmark snatched it back. "I see, so instead of getting someone to write everything out on the paper, they write on some part of this machine, then you turn this handle here and you get a bunch of copies. So... not much use for everyday stuff, but if I wanted everyone to read something, I just set this thing up and away it goes."

"That seems to be the principle, lord, but-"

    "But what?"

"Isn't this putting the cart before the horse rather? Hardly anyone in the kingdom knows how to read as it is."

"Dash it, why d'you have to be so negative?" Athelmark roared. "Have you no ambition? I want one of these press things. And I want everyone to know how to use it."

"You only need one or two people per press to know how to use it."

"Not use it, man, read it! I want everyone in the kingdom to learn to read, starting with the chieftains." He thought about this for a moment. "By the time I get back from the ball."

Pendred blanched. "In so short a time, lord? I mean, the roads alone... and then there's the construction of a capital, and all the other things you've already-"

"The capital can wait. We haven't even decided where it's going yet. Besides, one of these press things will help with that. We can draw up a building plan, put it in this press and then give one to everyone. And they can read it, and build their own house."

Pendred had a momentary vision of dozens of people crushed to death by inadequately-constructed buttresses and roofing. "Perhaps, lord-"

"Well, never mind the details now. The point is, find me someone who can build me one of these presses. Or tell me how to build one."

"Very well, lord. Was there anything else?"

Priory of Ascension, 17th Year of the New Era of Enlightenment (376 CE)

It was seventeen years ago that the New Era of Enlightenment began, seventeen years since the First Enclave at Forr Garath met to codify the Holy Doctrine of Ascension. The Path was laid out plainly, heretical texts and beliefs excised from the True Faith, and the various true writings collected into what would become known as the Book of Ascension. The final act of the First Enclave at Forr Garath before it disbanded was to elect a Chief Hierarch, the head of the church, from among its members. Thus did a man take high office, becoming Chief Hierarch Zanper Fidious the Holy, First of His Name.

Chief Hierarch Zanper Fidious the Holy's first act as Chief Hierarch was to create the Quorum of the Sixteen Patriarchs. It was believed that in ancient times, a woman known now as The Ascendant achieved true Ascension, though she has been known for many years by the Salterri by a different name, She-Of-Silver-Spear-And-Coin. She was closely followed by sixteen disciples, each a founding member and patriarch of the semi-mythical First Church. The Quorum of the Sixteen Patriarchs in modern times is thus a reflection of this ancient belief, serving the Chief Hierarch much as did those first apostles serve The Ascendant. The Quorum immediately set about the task of organizing priors and priests to spread the word to the people.

Seventeen years have passed since the New Era of Enlightenment began, and now Ascension has become the dominant religion in the region, supplanting all others with the strength of its truth.

With heavy heart and great sadness, Governour Lann Qïng's death was announced to the peoples of Salteire. With the Imperium focused wholly on the war against the barbarous murderers of the north and no new governor appointee forthcoming, the people turned to the Church for guidance. The government in shambles, only through the path of Ascension was order brought once again to the general populace. The Priory of Ascension was formed in the absence of government leadership to handle the daily responsibilities left unattended by the Imperium. A year passed, and the region began to flourish. Spurred on by the tenants of the faith, the believers strove to be better, hoping to achieve ascension themselves. Those who did not turn to Ascension too worked harder than before, vowing not to be outdone by their neighbors. Thus did the province flourish while the empire faltered.

Still, not all things are so simple. Zanper Fidious the Holy knew that a time would come when the war ended and the Imperium would return. While he was willing to relinquish civil control of the region, he foresaw two major issues. First, the faithful would rebel at their Chief Hierarch being deposed from leadership. Second, and more importantly, he feared that the Imperium would bring retaliation against him and the Church for daring to take on the authority of rule.

Therefore, the Church sought the most eloquent among them and formed a delegation to be sent to the capital of the Salterri Imperium for the purposes of brokering an agreement.
    Spoiler: Salterri Imperium Delegation
    Show
    Most Holy Emperor,

We have come to speak on behalf of the Church of Ascension. In the aftermath of the assassination of the great and honourable Governour Lann Qïng, the people were in fear, disarray, and panic. They sought leadership from the Imperium, though, most sadly, none was to be immediately found. The great and honourable governor was dead, and the most holy leaders of the Imperium fighting a righteous war against the barbarous north.

We, the Church of Ascension, a holy order of most loyal Imperium citizens could not simply watch as the people crumbled. For, how should we call ourselves true and loyal citizens should we stand aside and allow our civilization to fall, or even merely to stumble? How could we allow the people to fail and be less than their best upon our most holy leaders' return? We simply could not! Therefore, as people turned to the Church for guidance, we stepped up to do only what must be done to preserve order. The Church has served as interim leader in the province of Salteire only until such time as a new Honourable Governour might be appointed.

We wish to inform you that the Chief Hierarch, leader of our Church, is willing to step down and allow your duly appointed Governour to take his rightful place once one is appointed. However, against what he charged us, we have a request, if you would deign give us the mercy and patience to present an alternative to you.

A new Governour will be unknown to the people. There will be a time, perhaps years, in which the people must become accustomed to the Governour and perhaps even longer before they come to trust him. Instead, we ask that you officially sanction the current leader. He already has the trust and adoration of the people, and as a loyal citizen of the Imperium, you can rest assured that he is indeed a wise choice. For, despite the lack of government agents in the province, he has convinced the peoples to willingly bring forth their requisite taxes and render them over to the Church for safekeeping. Indeed, we now present you the entire sum of taxes which should have been collected since the death of Honourable Governour Qïng as is your due. Should the Church be allowed to continue to run the province as it has, we can assure you of our loyalty and continued support of the Silver Throne.

We, the Chief Hierarch, and the Church will do as your will dictates. We ask only that you consider the benefits of this arrangement, the ease with which it can be enacted, and point out the growth of the province under our diligent guidance.
Should the Imperium look favorably on the Church in this matter, the Priory of Ascension will ask permission from the Imperium to colonize Region 63 for the purposes listed below, hopefully being permitted to colonize without the Imperium needing to withdraw its troops.

A large group of monks seeks a holy location in which to build a monastery dedicated to the study of Ascension. They move to purchase land in Region 63 from those who hold it and attempt to colonize it. Should the Salterri Imperium deny the above request, they monks will do something else...

The faithful seek to spread Ascension across the world, first to their brethren, then to their allies, then to the distant peoples across the realms. Missionaries are sent out to the various provinces of the Salterri Imperium as well as many of its outlying protectorates.

busy busy but actions :) write up for P8 and 46 I'll do when I have time during the comming week.

-(diplomacy) In order to prevent spread of the "pussdeath" to Gunung the borders are closed till the situation has been resolved, special trade post are set up on the border where goods from Gunung will be stored for pickup by foreign traders and where their goods will be stored and cleansed by fire (insofar as this is possible without damiging the goods) before being brought into Gunung, In addition to al this some voluntairy priests leave to neighbouring countries to help look for a cure.

-(diplomacy) A group of priests and mountaneers travel to the midst of the mountains between Ashenia, Bordeux and Sulvan’s Fury bearing a flag of peace and two units of free fish for the surounding population (especialy those struck by disease) it is their hope they can stay long enough to whitness the mountains birth (from a save distance)

-(cuiriosity) Complete the lava chanals (5/5)

-(cuiriosity) Investigate to find out the who how and why of "‘LISTEN TO THE HEART OF THE MOUNTAIN’, ‘HAVE FAITH IN YOUR SALVATION’ and ‘PLANT THE SEED, BURN THE MIND, BEND THE KNEE’." The first one is a common and wise proverb in Gunung but the other two are somewath disturbing.

-(cuiriosity) Investigate the disapearances at the blue volcano named, Texocaltic (meaning very blue)

    Round Eleven: Begin!

Don’t forget to link to any rolls you make for Diplomatic colonization checks, Military battle and tactical maneuvering checks, Curiosity tech-stealing checks, Faith conversion checks, and rolls for rulers you will start using at the start of next round. If you want a new ruler in the next round, you must state so in your action post for this round and link to their rolls. Any increases from actions for this round are counted for the ruler you start your next round with (because it’s handier to account for by the co-GM), which may or may not be your current ruler.

    Good luck!

    Investigate!
Razdissi infected by pusdeath that have come into contact are largely rid of the black spots… in return, their blood appears to have crystallized.

Hartigan Biûrkahâd has been questioned about the origin of the pusdeath and he laughed it off at first, speaking in naught but tongues. When somnorum was used, he became more docile and spoke more understandably, revealing the origins of the disease came from further west and was gotten by starving people eating infected rats.

Investigators in Gunung have theorized that the signs and messages found are connected to the Order of True Fire.

Turns out the Pillar of Solus slowly disintegrates those who enter it over the course of hours, leaving vital parts for last.

The eggs hatch! The eggs that some old Sympol had been sitting on for ages in years past have hatched! Birds the size of ponies come out, and as they mature in the space of a year, they come to have razor-sharp feathers. Woo!

    Explore!
1000 Sulvan soldiers are lost in a failed attempt to colonize region 21B.

    Colonize!
    Bordeux finishes colonizing region 49!

The Glazfell finishes colonizing region 56!

The Glazfell finishes colonizing region 57!

The Glazfell finishes colonizing region 58!

    Bordeux finishes colonizing region 70!

    Raaneka begins colonizing region 11-B!

    Claim!
Lyradis has claimed Domhan Abhaile! It will become a fine vassal to the Serendel Empire. The clanshead council approves.

Lyradis has claimed Grmanhil! They take only the home region of it (#31), having split its lands with Hrathan-Tuor, who have taken region 30. Region 30 has a majority in Lord of Fire worshippers and several religious minorities that are undefined as of yet.

Raaneka has claimed Qarimos! They share ancestry with the native people there, whereas the Qarimosi are welcome long-time visitors.

Other claims forthcoming. Lots of claiming being done.

    War!
While no wars are being outright fought, the Salterri have blockaded Cassia. Trade to and from Cassia is blocked by sea.

    Convert!
There is now a minority of Ascension in regions 33, 61, 62 and 66.

More people in Nyroth, Woodwind and Aloren convert to Radurja.

    Terror!
Someone in Hrathan-Tuor appears to be systematically assassinating assassins.

The kobolds of the Tunneldom underneath Aloren have released their 1000 captives. They seem a bit pale and crooked, probably from being underground in cramped tunnels for so long.

    Infection!
    Pusdeath infection spread:
Celero; 1000 soldiers lost, but the disease appears otherwise on the way out.
    Bereginia?
    Nyroth
Kasumor; it appears little to no infected are within Kasumor. Praise Ashmar!
    Shikurai
    Woodwind; 1000 soldiers lost.
Calorum; 1000 soldiers lost and 1000 civilians for a total of 2000 people. The disease seems to have been a flash in Calorum.
    Aloren
    Genivana; 1000 soldiers lost.
    Hrathan-Tuor; 4000 soldiers lost.
Raaneka; 2000 civilians lost. It’s possible that the Games contributed to its spread, but the adding of miracle pool water to Heartwine seems to have a moderating effect on sick drinkers.
Lyradis; the disease has been completely vanquished from Lyradis it seems. Praise the Lord!
    Razdis
    Guilder; 3000 soldiers lost.
    Elbaraz?
    Zargrim
Ashenia; 1000 soldiers lost and 2000 civilians lost for a total of 3000 people lost.
    The Jeweled Cities
    Scla’ca
Alydaxis; 1000 soldiers lost, but the disease seems to not have taken a lasting hold on the lizardfolk at home.
Region 30; whether it was the Grmanhil orcs or the stabilizing forces of Hrathan-Tuor, the pusdeath now lingers here.
Grmanhil; 1000 soldiers lost and 2000 civilians lost for a total of 3000 people lost.
Region 33; thanks to the intentional spread by the Grmanhil orcs the pusdeath has reached the Salterri protectorates!
    Angan Anvale; 2000 civilians lost.
Kyaralath; 3000 civilians lost, others appear to have some resistance to the disease.

Region 64 has 70000 inhabitants and one Great undefined resource.

Region 66 has 64000 inhabitants, corundum as a Good resource, Iron as a Good resource and wurms as a Good resource.

Region 67 has 43000 inhabitants, fish as a Good resource and one undefined Good resource.

Region 68-A has 42000 inhabitants and no Good resources.

Region 68-B has been discovered by Mularuhm! It has 26000 inhabitants, a Good resource of hellstone and one Good undefined resource.

Region 69 has 120000 inhabitants, toma nuts as a Good resource, quartz as a Good resource and one undefined Good resource.

    Other!
Someone in Tar appears to be building something like a theater building. Weren’t they kind of, like, nomads?

It weirdly appears that someone in the Ashenian court is going around and re-stitching women’s dresses with filling in them to make them appear more voluptuous. Some are outraged, others intrigued, and a few say Idrisa is jealous that her dresses haven’t received such treatment.

Imperial courts begin to find bards to become more prolific and classy.

    Oh father, oh father
    Ashmar you bring

And make your blackened sword sing

The corpse of a man has washed up in Solus. From his features, he appears to be a Guilderene, but the clothes he wears are a bit odd. They appear to be a mix of Jeweled Cities’ sailors (so, little of it) and shorter, comfortable Lord of Fire monk robes.

In Genivana rumour has it that Paco Çimar Guzman has purchased an Ashenian ballroom dress.

Rumours spread that Sanctuary has created a bloodfire-powered cannon based on Pryonic designs.

Razdissi have discovered that the GERR--> signs that appeared in Keldagrim years ago are also found in Sulvan’s Fury.

Things have fallen silent surrounding the Sycian playwright Tarcbjorn. He says he has lost inspiration in this world and feels like he must soon depart to find his muse over the horizons of time! Oh foul lightning of the creative mind, why have you run your storm away from me, that your tickling struck of thunder might enlighten my power to bring women tears, children smiles and men the face of fright?

A ship has been found on the cliprocks off the coast of region 64-A. It is large, definitely ocean-faring, probably capable of housing hundreds of people. It bares the name Mia Isabella.

Frost berapi adventurers whisper stories that the giant ice wall in the east is actually boiling hot.

A group of people in the city of Pearl on the islands appear to be setting up what looks like a funeral for Jonas Grumby.

A crazy Sympol appears to be travelling through Sycia and Felitora begging people to eat him.

A crack in the earth between Sycia and the Glazfell has appeared, large enough to fit a pegasus in and running the length of an average Raaneki Games footrace. Sycia isn't going to separate from the mainland, is it?! Conspiracy theorists immediately converse.

      Show
Participants: Ignato Empire (Consisting of the territories of Aloren, Nyroth, & Woodwind), Genivana, Hrathan-Tuor (Containing the region known as Grizzland)

The following document is to be the first and greatest of its kind, a unification of nations under one government, a balanced distribution and sharing of powers intended to bring great prosperity to the entirety of all their people. Unification will be the path forward and with this coming together a great and powerful entity might be born.

Governmental Duties of the Member States
The Triumvirate shall become an entirely new government becoming the new ruling body over the now former Ignato Empire, Genivana, and Hrathan-Tuor. The ruler and line of succession of the Imperial throne shall not be altered and the title of Emperor or Empress shall be retained by the ruling member of the Ignato line. Further the High Guildmaster of Hrathan-Tuor will retain his primary role under the new title, High Speaker of the Senate, and the royal lineage of Genivana shall step down and the third position of leadership filled by the Radurjic faith.

      The Emperor
The duties of the Emperor shall be primarily concerned with military matters of the Triumvirate, responsible for raising troops, building military fortifications, leading the Empire in times of war, and all such matters that might fall under the marshal heading. • Year 381 Empress Syana gives birth to another child, a boy. She names him Korath after his late father, her husband, whose death at the Grand Ball prevented him from witnessing the birth of his first son.
    • Year 385 The conclusion of the Senate was delayed months due to the work to repair the damage done at the Grand Ball. Even after reconstruction the floor of the building, now covered with the desks and chairs of senators, still bears the faint outline of the wax seal and the walls are darkened faintly with the afterglow of the explosion. For some it is a reminder of the power of religion, another a warning to avoid it, but for most it is simply a footnote ignored in their day to day interactions in the game of politics.

    Raaneka, the Painted Lands
((Attribute increases last round: Curiosity +1, Diplomacy +1, Luck +1))
((Attribute increases this round: Diplomacy +1, Military +1))

    Year 381
Rejoice! By drawing together the delicacies of many places, Grmanhili Honey, Qarimosi Spices, Extract of Sleepflower from Kasumor afar, and our own Ruby Grape, Lord Ujval Devdano has perfected Raaneki Heartwine. Prince Tikta Satato added water from the Miracle Pools himself, and blessed it in the name of all our ancestors. It is said to kindle hearts and bring them together. To give levity to the mind, that it might find the best in its fellows.

As colonization of the caverns beneath the Miracle Pools comes to an end, and by way of welcome to our new sisters and brothers in Qarimos, may all in the land know of the birth of a new era. May all know of the First Decree of the Council:
Spoiler: Declaration of the Royal Council of Raaneka
    Show
To all the citizens of our domain, we bid you welcome!

The realm of Raaneka grows, and takes into its consideration many old alliances. Our glory is restored to an age undreamed of, and still the horizon is far away. May all who have eyes to see or ears to hear know that Lomadi and Ujval Devdano, masters of Raaneka, do claim themselves Queen and King of the Diarchy of Raaneka.

That we might live in harmony with our new kin, may rule of law be shared by regents of each province of the realm. In the 381st year of the common era, we announce the birth of the Royal Council of Raaneka. May six councilors serve from each province in the realm. From the Diarchy of Raaneka, Queen and King shall always serve on the Council, and shall be joined by the remaining four matriarchs and patriarchs of the Adite-Devdano dynasty. From the Principality of Qarimos, may the Princess and Prince of the land be joined by advisors elected on merit, as is their custom. From the new realm beneath Raaneka, may they elect six officials however they should choose, but may they accept the friendship of House Satato, who is eager to learn more of the ancestors.

We decree this with the full authority won with peaceful words by Aditi and Devdan, may they return in our greatest need. We ask for the blessing of the Raaneki, different in culture and race but united in history, fellows for the rest of time.

    Your humble masters,

    Lomadi and Ujval Devdano
    Queen and King of Raaneka
    Bright Glory, Dark Wine
    First Vintner of Raaneka
    Mistress of Trade
    Wisdom and Generosity

    Calaki and Jacob Serendel
    Princess and Prince of Qarimos
    Music and Flexibility

Let it be known that Lady Lomadi and Lord Ujval Devdano, masters of Raaneka, will travel to the Second Grand Ball in the land of Aloren. They shall wear the finest Nyrothian silk, fashioned into daring tributes to the two symbols of Raaneka: Berundas and Heartwine. Their costume shall be Raaneka's submission to the 3rd Decennial Nyrothian Great Weave.

    Year 382
    No decrees.

    Year 383
The King is doomed! In a note discovered in the royal chambers, he declared himself infected with Pusdeath. Queen and King fled the palace and have disappeared into the wilderness, though it means death for them both. Their last will and testament declared Anguri and Krama to be Queen and King of Raaneka, and blessed their reign with the words of their house, "Wisdom and Generosity." May all citizens of every city hold a funeral in absentia, and may music cease from dawn till dusk in mourning for our loss.

Anguri Adite the Golden and Krama Adite will be crowned Queen and King of Raaneka.
    Spoiler: Coronation Speech
    Show
Raaneki! Qarimosi! People of the Painted Lands! With joined hands, we plead for your favor. Aditi and Devdan gave us the world. Lomadi and Ujval, may their memory never fade, shared our Heartwine with that world. But Raaneka is not merely the wisdom of dark wine! Are we not also the bright glory of adventure? Of discovery? Does our iron lack the luster of other lands? The world is changing. The Grand Ball taught us that much. Raaneka must rise to meet this change if we hope to remain our own. So ready the sails! Sharpen your swords! A new age is dawning, but our berundas will shine beyond the light of that dawn! For love of harmony, let us go forth and contend with the world!

    Year 384
So that glory and safety of the land might be improved at once, may all the bravest and most agile of the Raaneki heed the call. Queen and King call for the formation of a new flight of Raaneki Berunda. May the twenty most capable warriors be granted the glory.

"This is a bold move, my Queen," growled her husband, Krama.

She returned with a cunning smile. "I aim for bolder still, as you know."

    Year 385
So that our strength at sea might grow, Queen and King command that a new fleet of Qarimosi warships be built in Melytis. May they be crafted of golden Raaneki lumber and strengthened with pale Sulvan mithral. May their sails be made of red Nyrothian silk.

"I do not understand the sea," the Queen said in a huff.

"That is no reason to ignore it, Aunt," returned Prince Jacob. "It can only add to your glory!"

Year 381, The Mormaer's Hall, Razdis
The Mormaer's Hall had been transformed to a picture of domestic bliss. Vali and Urgo had a child, a half orc/half Razdissi girl named Cogen, and a boy was on the way.
"Ah, a ball! This shall be most excellent."
Razkai had received his invitation, and was reading it with obvious glee.
"Son! No, not you Vali, the other one."
Prince Ali, twin of Vali, looked up from cooing over Cogen's cot. Whilst Vali wore a neat beard, Ali bore a long moustache; aside from that, there was little difference between the pair.
"Father? Is there a reason behind you noticing me?"
"A ball. Held by the Triumvirate. We're going."
    "Will there be Heartwine?"
    "Yes."
"I'm happy to join you, father."

[The same year, The Mormaer's Hall, Razdis]
Albrek of the Buried Lord Clan stood nervously. The new printing press was by his side; the device had proved very useful in printing his new book, but it needed approval by the Mormaer before being distributed. The door guards let him pass into the vaulted hall; war banners of all the Razdissi countries hung on the walls, and captured Salterri flags were displayed proudly.
"Ah, so you're Albrek then? An… author?"
"Yes, my liege. I compiled this book from the records of all Telluris. Well, all of Telluris that I could write to. And that replied to me."
"Hmm. I've pursued the contents, and it seems adequate. Just one thing; these 'printing presses', or quill engines as the people call them. May the crown have use of them?"
    "But of course, my lord."
    "Anything to be published."

"Good; Razdis' allies in the Dawn League will be proud of your efforts, Albrek of the Buried Lord Clan. Or should I say, Albrek of the Quill Engine Clan."

[The same year, The Mormaer's Quarters, Razdis]
"What? 1000 of them! Gone! No longer. No longer. UnderSulvan has taunted me and my people enough times!"
    Razkai's eye narrowed to a rage-filled slit,
"Send out a proclamation; Razdis calls for aid. Adventurers; normally I can't stand the grubby sods, but we need them now. A party must root out and destroy the evil beneath Sulvan's Fury! Send Vali too, and an infantryman. The 1000 Sulvans and their royal line will be avenged!"

All subjects will rejoice to hear that Qzare Xiu Wandao has been freed from his northern captivity and returned to his lands thanks in no small parts to the efforts of our shrewd and bold king Athelmark.

Be it hereby known that the Dwarfs of Mularuhm are now considered friends of Jarrland. Mularuhm Dwarfs are to be allowed to travel freely within the kingdom and to be accorded every respect. The High King of Mularuhm has generously permitted subjects of our King to travel freely within his own realms below the ground. May both our peoples continue to prosper!

Be it also known that Lady Tempest Grant, daughter of the Queen of the faraway Jewelled Cities, shall be residing in our kingdom as a guest. She is to be accorded the same dignity and respect as a member of our own royal family.

The final week of the year shall be given over to mourning for the tragic death of Eirwynn, daughter of King Athelmark. May all the gods show favour to the king and his family and bestow upon them the long life denied to fair Eirwynn.

    382

The king in his wisdom has seen fit to grant titles to the major nobles of the kingdom.
    • For his loyalty and service in war and diplomacy, Wiltor, Lord Sunder, is hereby named first Duke of Sunder.
    • For his courage and resolve, Marrik Sunder is created King's Champion.
    • For his efforts at the Salterri court, Elster, Lord Horwik, is created Earl of Horbeach.
    • For his careful regency in King Athelmark's absence, Alfwyr Jarrow is created Earl of Jarburg.
    • Titles accorded to other clan chiefs will be circulated.

    383

If you can read this, you will know that the king's project to improve rates of literacy across the kingdom is meeting with success! Education of all subjects born since the king's coronation to a useful standard of reading and writing is expected to be complete by the year 395.

[380] It was the third time Näiyop had rounded the table on which the sketches had been spread out. While they had been neatly organized an hour ago when Imnaya had started her presentation, they now formed a jumbled heap of paper. Looking up from one of the parchments at the young woman, he asked "And how is this supposed to work? There's no..." he scratched his head and pointed at a piece of another drawing "This here propels it? Are you sure that putting it there is a wise idea? What if it were to... or maybe... hmm" he mumbled into his beard, then stroked said piece of slowly graying facial hair pensively as he turned his attention to another sketch, starting his fourth lap around the table.

Imnaya kept her distance to the table, giving the chieftain sufficient room for his pacing, an amused smirk in her face. Finally she burst out laughing "It will work, I'm sure of it", she said smilingly with a conviction that swept away what little doubt remained in the chieftains mind. He still didn't understand how most of it worked, but then he didn't have to - she was the inventor, not him. Näiyop nodded, countless possibilities already flooding through his mind as he carefully placed the sketch he was holding on the table and embraced his future daughter in law.

[381] Hiykan and Imnaya stood in front of the crowd that had assembled in the temple of Irfrin's Cauldron. Even though only the most influential representatives of all four tribes had been invited, there was no room left for even a single Na'nuk to stand. Both knew that many more would be waiting outside to congratulate their future chieftainess. Through the wall behind them, fashioned from fist sized plates of finely polished amber that had been set into a silver lattice resembling honeycombs, rays of the low sun washed over the bridal couple, basking them in golden light. Both wore tunics fashioned from swansdown, whose pure white feathers gleamed in the light.

Inaun, who had exchanged his simple cotton robe for the ceremonial garments of a mystic, approached the couple. In one hand, he held the gnarled staff that had been crafted from the trunk of a stunted pine and set with a flame-shaped piece of amber in ages long past, in the other he carried a simple red cord. He placed the end of the staff in a small hole in the ground behind the two young Na'nuk. As it slid into place, the piece of amber at its tip caught the rays of light and reflected them around the bridal couple, cloaking them in a radiant halo. Inaun stepped forward and kneeled before them, his back to the crowd and his hand stretched out to the couple. First Hiykan, then Imnaya reached out and each laid a hand on top of the mystic's. Carefully, Inaun presented the cord and then tied it around the wrists of the couple, coining their hands. He rose to adress the crowd in front of them "Let this cord represent the bond that unites the Chieftain's son to his wife and the Chieftainess to her husband. While the cord will be removed before this day's sun sets, their bond will remain until the day their sun sets." Timidly and few in number at first, then in a joyous, deafening roar, the crowd cheered at the married couple. Imnaya gently held Hiykan's hand and smiled at her people.

At the edge of the crowd, not in the center where one might have suspected him, Näyiop stood and watched smilingly as his son and daughter in law left the temple after the ceremony. He knew in his heart that Imnaya would one day finish what he was about to start and that Irfrin had chosen kindly for his son. But if he was honest, he hoped that this day was still many years away, there was still too much of the world he hadn't seen. He turned away from the crowd to talk to Inaun. The old mystics broad smile surprised the chieftain, who was quickly drawn into a brotherly hug by his advisor.

[382] It was an overcast and cold day, even for Wenyavuk, as the procession approached the crevice in the face of the Second Tear's steepest cliff, it's entrance lined with hexagonal basalt columns. As they reached the entrance and dismounted their mammoths, only four of the figures continued into the chasm, all draped in crimson robes. Two young mystics of Irfrin walked in front, followed by the chieftain and his sister. Näiyop carried an amber urn that contained Inaun's ashes, his face missing the usual roguish smile. Customarily, there would have been a ceremonial incineration of the remains on the previous day to cleanse his soul, but after the events at the Grand Ball it had been decided that there would not be. After all, what good would mortal fire do, when he had felt Irfrin's breath? Behind her borther, Ania followed with pale face and saddened eyes, her left arm in a sling. It was still uncertain if she would ever regain full use of it.

The heat grew more intense as they drew closer to the end of the chasm and the end of the road for the old mystic - at least in this life. The two young mystics that walked in front of them stepped aside as they entered the opening at the end, positioning themselved to both sides of the entrance. Behind them, only a small ledge of basalt remained, and behind that was Irfrin's Vent. The vent reached down to Irfrin's Tear below, from where steam and with it the fiery scent of burning stone rose to the surface. Down there, the urn would melt an burn, releasing Inauns soul - his spark of warmth - to be caught by Irfrin, reforged until it was pristine and light enough to escape the depth of the earth so it could find a new body. Näiyop stepped to the vent and crouched down. He extended the hand that held the urn and gently let it fall into the abyss. "Goodbye old friend. And thank you."

[383] After the Grand Ball, Bekya had returned home to Wenyavuk to be with a family that had shrunk in her absence. She had stayed for over a year, but the promise she had given to Liam had been in her mind the entire time. When she had brought up the topic before in carefully chosen moments, Näiyop wouldn't have any of it. This time, she was more adamant in her request, but her father's answer remained the same: she was needed at home. Finally, she snapped back at him "I'm not your first born, father, I can have a life of my own! You never arranged my marriage and I am grateful for that. But if you leave the choice to me then let me chose!" She growled "It's not like you asked grandfather before you ran out into the snow to find Irfrin-knows-what to impress mother so you could become chieftain!". Näiyop had a stern look on his face, one she hadn't seen since she was a child "As a matter of fact, young lady, I did." He paused for a moment and sighed, the stern look fading "To which he answered no and then I went anyway." He looked at her earnestly and with a worried expression, hoping to sway her "Are you sure this is what you want? We've traded with them and their Queen has been reasonable in our dealings, but we don't know them that well... and you would be on your own." Bekya could tell that she had already won the argument, so her reply only served to calm his fears - and maybe hers as well "It's not even certain the he will crowned king. If he isn't, I'm sure I can convince him to come here, maybe permanently."

The old Na'nuk sighed but didn't argue any further. He grabbed a parchment and started writing. Impatiently she waited while her father drew up a document that gave his blessing if she were to accepted the proposal. She would miss Wenyavuk, but she was eager to explore the South just like her father had been all those years ago. The berry hadn't fallen far from the shrub.

[385] The desk was overflowing with parchments. It had been, ever since she had taken over a part of Inauns advisoral duties, 3 months after that fateful day when Näiyop had returned from the Grand Ball with the mystic's ashes. She had only known him for a few years before his final voyage to the south, but she missed Inaun nonetheless. His skill at organizing the affairs of the chieftains had been unrivaled and in a sense still were. Imnaya sighed and wished there was someone else she could shuffle this administrative work off to right now, but there wasn't. She wondered if it would be this bad as well when she became chieftainess, or if Näiyop deliberately burdened her this much in preparation. But she had no right to moan, she told herself, after all she had volunteered for the position of an advisor. But who else could have done it? The vessels had been her design after all. She shifted the stack of parchments she had just gone through from her desk onto a shelf to her left. All the construction plans were complete and raw materials were flowing in from the South. Now she would have to see about putting them to good use, as Näiyop had instructed her. She took a blank scroll of parchment from a drawer, picked up one of the berunda quills that had been a wedding present from the chieftain and began to write.

To the scholars and explorers of Telluris

In celebration of the completion of the Arctic Institute, the Wenyavuk Arctic Society invites likeminded academics and scholars of all nations and faiths to the formal opening of the Institute in 388. While the ceremony itself will be kept short to not hinder the commencement of studies through alcohol-induced intoxication, attending parties are invited to also join the subsequent arctic expedition that will settle once and for all the Telluran Rotundity Conjecture that was first stated by the famous Qarimosan philosopher Ashour in the year of 183, who claimed that our world has the shape of a sphere. The claim shall be proven by heading in a general northward direction until such time as South lies in all directions.

The expedition is scheduled to last a mere 4 months, appropriate clothing and gear will be provided by the Arctic Society. We advise all participants that, in the unlikely event of refutation of the conjecture, falling off the edge of Telluris is a distinct possibility. Therefore, and in light of certain accusations that have been made in recent years in respect to the alledged abduction of scientists by the esteemed Paco Guzman, attending scholars are expected to provide documentation signed by their heads of states which release the Society from any blame should the expedition not return as planned.

We look forward to your attendance. Please let us know of your intention of joining the expedition in advance of your arrival, so that we may prepare clothing in the respective sizes of attendees.

    Imnaya an Pajen,
    Advisory of Innovation, Wenyavuk

As a good faith effort to continue amicable negotiations with Guilder, priests are sent to the capital to explain the faith to the leadership and proselytize the people.

With the chaos caused by the filthy Grmanhil Orcs intentionally spreading the pusdeath into the area, colonization attempts are increased in Region 33. Once the priory has the region better stabilized, efforts to stop the plague can begin.

The Chief Hierarch of the Church of Ascension meets with the Qzare of the Salterri Imperium. More fluff to come pending response from Morph. After discussing several points of trade and political and religious matters, the two work together to finish codifying the laws of the Salterri Imperium insofar as they relate to acquiring new provinces (allies) and protectorates. The agreement is as follows.
    Spoiler: The Salterri Imperium
    Show
    The Salterri Imperium
Participants: Salterri Imperium, Priory of Ascension
The Salterri Imperium exists as a unified empire with the goal of bringing peace, order, and civilization to the world. All provinces and protectorates of the empire agree to abide by the following requirements.

    Leadership
    1. Loyalty to the Qzare is absolute. As ruler of the Imperium, the Qzare maintains ultimate authority over the empire. The Qzare agrees never to rule unilateraly without the input of the Senate and provincial Governours unless necessary for the preservation of the Imperium.
    2. Nations bonded into the Imperium by treaty or alliance shall retain their native leadership and traditional native methods of leader selection. Said leader is granted the Imperial Title of Provincial Governour and may use this title for all legal purposes. Traditional local titles for leadership may be retained and legally used, provided said titles are not Qzare, Emperor, Senator, or derivatives thereof.
    3. Protectorates of the Imperium shall retain their native leadership, provided that said leadership at time of acquisition meets with the approval of the Qzare. Traditional native methods of leader selection will be honored, but new leaders must be approved by the Qzare or the Senate. Leaders of Imperial Protectorates are granted the Imperial Title of Provincial Lord and may use this title for all legal purposes. Traditional local titles for leadership may be retained and legally used, provided said titles are not Qzare, Emperor, Senator, Governour, or derivatives thereof.

    Military
    1. A Legion is defined as 1,000 armed and expertly trained soldiers or equivalent thereof.
    2. Defensive Requirements
      1. All Provinces and Protectorates must maintain a minimum of 1 Legion standing army in each province.
      2. Each Provincial Governour must maintain a minimum additional force of 4 Legions ready to mobilize at a moment's notice to any region of the Imperium.
      3. Each Provincial Lord must maintain a minimum additional force of 2 Legions and no more than 4 Legions for the same purpose.
      4. The Imperium shall maintain a minimum of 1 Legion and no more than 4 Legions standing army in every province for the same purpose.

    3. Military Limitations
      1. The Imperium shall not house more then 4 Legions in any Province outside of the Homelands, except in times of war.
      2. Provincial Governours shall not raise unreasonable military forces, as determined by the Senate, except in times of war.
      3. Provincial Lords may not raise more than 2 Legions per provincial region in addition to the mobile force, except with permission in times of war.

    4. Requirements and Responsibilities
      1. No region will raise arms against another member of the Imperium, except in defense.
      2. No region will militarily invade lands belonging to nations outside of the Imperium, except in times of war.
      3. Should any region of the Imperium come under attack, all mobile forces as defined above shall immediately be sent to defend the populace.
      4. Regions incapable of supporting the minimums as laid out herein may be given special dispensation until such time as they can meet the requirements.

    Faith and Religion
    1. The state officially recognizes and endorses the following religions: Hailings of the Silver Sea; Ascension.
    2. Provincial Governours must adhere to a state approved faith, if necessary openly and publicly converting prior to claiming a leadership role in any Province or Protectorate. Provincial Lords may continue to practice their original faith, but conversion is preferable.
    3. The clergy of all state approved faiths are granted autonomy to move through all Imperium lands spreading their beliefs without hindrance.
    4. Members of unapproved, traditional faiths may continue to practice their beliefs within their traditional lands; however, spreading of such faiths to other regions is strictly forbidden.
    5. No member of the Imperium may start or organize a new faith or religion.

    Trade, Resources, & Technology
    1. Imperial Provinces and Protectorates may make trade agreements as they see fit with the following requirements.
      1. If a region of the Imperium has need of a resource you can provide, you must offer the resource to that region before offering it to any nation outside of the Imperium.
      2. No trade agreements of any sort may be made with any nations declared to be an enemy of the Imperium.
      3. No technology of any kind may be given to any nation not belonging to the Imperium without approval of the Qzare or Senate.

    2. All acquired technologies are to be shared openly with all members of the Imperium, though recipients of the technologies may still be required to provide resources in payment for the technology.

    Representation
    1. All Provincial Governours and Provincial Lords have the right to attend or send a duly appointed representative to the Comitatus Judex Primus, Court of the Chief Magistrate of the Salterri Imperium [private thread, Salterri allies only]. Here, leaders may petition the Imperium or have grievances addressed.

Against his better judgment, Chief Hierarch Zanper Fidious the Holy sends a representative to the Grand Ball after receiving several requests from the nations of the north to attend and a formal invitation from one of them. Though he would rather have stayed away from such a gathering, he could see the benefits to the empire were the northern tribes to be somewhat mollified through diplomatic overture.

Like all days in the Glazfell, this one was cold. Again.

At least things were getting done around here, though: While the paperwork was lagging in the Estglaz, the Frosskov expanse and the territory of Skarval were being quickly and effectively assimilated into the Kingdom at large. King Hroar considered perhaps renaming the kingdom, as it now extended far beyond the Glazfell itself, but set that idea down for later. Reports suggest that he only did so because he couldn't think of a better name, but in truth he just didn't feel that the land was ready for such change, so quickly. No, at the very least he'd have to build something for the whole kingdom to rally around, or else the people of the Glazfell itself might not like the implication that it has lost importance.

Kingdom of Glazfell would do for now, he supposed.

    For now.

384: Upstarts unhappy with "foreign" rule storm a fort in the Estglaz! King Hroar sends troops to put down the revolt before anything important is damaged or lost, but the region is not entirely stable. For now, he raises military presence there and searches for a more permanent solution.
