Noncivilized World: Message in a Dream IC

The twig blight that prevously tried to attack Fang ignores the nimble dog and targets the bigger humanoid, Kanok, instead. The one Taesha wounded looks hesitant, then runs back to the forest disappearing into darkness. The one next to Stiira frowns at the little witch covered in spikes before noticing easier prey. It steps past the halfling and tries to claw the elf lying on the ground. Eldien screams and tries to avoid the attack the best she can. The other twig blights close ranks and yet a few more appear from the forest.

Stiira backs to the rock wall, afraid to cast a spell with the creatures so close. "I... I have one fire spell.. It could burn them... If I had space.."

Kanok growls in victory, then turns his attention to the twig-blight beside him in the firelight. He spins, reversing his momentum, and brings the club down in an overhead swing against the distracted creature.

Fang continues his onslaught of bites, lunging again at the scary moving bush, growling and snarling.

The small tree glaces at Asha over its shoulder with another grin. In her mind, Asha can hear a familiar voice speaking. "Calm your mind, child", Ronove says, "Anger is pointless, both in the short moment battle and in the larger flow of life. Focus your will and the weapon you insist on carrying will obey you."

Aidan slashes the twig blight clawing Eldien and some yellowish substance bursts from the wound. Still, the creature remains standing. Fang attacks the already wounded tree and brings it down with another neck snap. Kanok steps forward, but this time the enemy dodges his club.

Stiira takes a small step, trying to adjust her aim. She makes complicated movements with her fingers and mutters, "Angry fire, weaker than water, but enemy of trees.. Burn!"

Flames burst from her fingertips, burning the twig blights in front of her. Asha, Knok and Taesha can feel heat of the spell, but the actual burning fire doesn't reach them.

The badly burnt twig blight turns around and scampers back to the forest. The one deeply wounded by Aidan tires to slash the elf one last time, but then turns to flee too.

Asha can't make an AOO, she took a spear off her back last turn and has two -two handed weapons in her hands. She needs to speak a command word to shrink the one and while she can hold them that is really all she can do.

Fang drops the still bush-monster from his mouth, then quickly lunges forward towards the light to snap at the one on the other side of the man-beast, his green eyes gleaming in the firelight.

Kanok flinches and raises an arm up to protect himself from the flames, and is glad to see they did not reach him. Glancing down, he notes the charred pile of kindling that spreads out in a wave in front of him. It may be witchcraft, but he has to admit he admires the effect. Seeing the two emerge from the darkness to attack Stiira, he dashes towards them, vaulting the ones that lay dead before him. Approaching the furthest twig-blight, he again brings his club down in with an over-head swing.

Tuntematon became so angry that he began to use some colorful language. "Perkeleiden pensaslainet!" His outline began to become less indistinct, but the centaur knew how to fix that. "Hämärtää!"

Despite the total lack of success so far, the centaur continued to try to bludgeon the intruders.

Her aim is true and the creature is torn in two.

With their ranks so dimished the remaining twig blights lose their courage. They turn around and flee to the forest. 13 corpses of their comrades are left to lay around the campsite.

As a strange coincidence, the party can see the first rays of the morning sun reach them through the trees. They've all got scratches from the creatures claws, some more than others, but everyone are standing and no one is gravely wounded.

Stiira looks around nervously, shaking a little. "A-are they gone...?" The forest seems to have indeed ceased its hostilities, but it takes several minutes for the small witch to calm down so she can play herself new spells. She knows she cannot replace the one she cast in the battle, since it just left her mind, but she wants to change a few others. Yesterdays challenge was the river, today they will reach the mountains.

I've updated Stiira's spells. If anyone else wants to do any changes or say something after battle now's the time. I hope to move us forward before I go to bed tonight.

Oh! Might I also ask what Kanok and Aidan are eating today? The rest have some rations left (Asha has everlasting), and Stiira can at least share, others too, if they want to. Or you can go find more food while the casters & etc. prepare for the day.

Kanok stands vigilant for a while longer, peering off into the darkness. He arms his shield while doing so. After a few moments, when he's sure they're not going to surge back out, he produces his bone wand and begins healing those most wounded. After that, he throws all the twig-blight corpses onto the fire (making it much larger for a while). He doesn't know how these things spawn, but some creatures birth from the corpses of their parents, and he doesn't want to risk more of these things coming into the world.

After he's watched them burn for several minutes, and made sure the fire won't spread, he puts on the Dragonskin and prepares to go hunting for a while with Fang, while the casters are preparing.

Asha shuddered as Ronove made her exit. 24 hours, it was lucky the creatures had attacked while she was still bond. She went over to Eldien, "Since you're going to be with us for a little I would like you to hold onto that spear. It isn't much but I don't want you to be defenceless at camp."

"What strange creatures. I'd say that their strangeness would've brought them the favor of Alnin, but they interrupted the prayers of Alnin's prophet, so now I cannot say. In any case, I believe we are all relatively O.K. at this point. So, what next?"

Kanok comes across a well-sized deer by the river bank. It is all alone and limping one of its legs, so it is an easy catch.

"Thank you", Eldien says to Asha and holds the spear tight, as if she's hoping that it could help her stand up. "We should be careful when we approach the mountains. My tr- my old tribe does not like strangers much."
