Re: Dysfunctional Rules Thread V: Dysfunctions All the Way Down
PrC Consecrated Harrier
From the Defenders of the Faith:A consecrated harrier prepares and casts spells just as a cleric does (though the consecrated harrier cannot lose a spell to cast a cure spell in its place).
Undead humanoid commoners suddenly become much better combatants, because one of undead traits isProficient with its natural weapons, all simple weapons, and any weapons mentioned in its entry.Last edited by ShurikVch; 2014-04-16 at 12:13 PM.

Re: Dysfunctional Rules Thread V: Dysfunctions All the Way Down
The sample Consecrated Harrier mentions prepared spells. The rules do not however explicitly say how he prepares those spells, but given that he casts divine spells, it should be a fair assumption that he prepares them as a cleric/ranger does.

Re: Dysfunctional Rules Thread V: Dysfunctions All the Way Down
That's not a dysfunction. Humanoids gain proficiency from class, which is usually lost in the transition to undead, with the exception of a few templates like vampire.
If you wanted to address the problem of something like a neraph commoner and which proficiency rule wins out, that's something to discuss. I can't remember if we've talked about it yet.Kolyarut Avatar by Potatocubed.

Yes. Vampire spawn Human Commoner 1 instantly become proficient with not just VS natural attack, but with every single simple weapon as well, from the moment of turning

Re: Dysfunctional Rules Thread V: Dysfunctions All the Way Down
Not exactly. Commoner 1 with Int penalty (say, half-orc) have only 1 skill rank and 1 feat.
Skeleton Half-Orc Commoner 1, created with Graveborn Warrior and Graveborn Expert, will have the same 1 feat and +4 to 1 skill checks
Also, funny part: "... and any weapons mentioned in its entry." What if it described as armed with improvised weapon?

Re: Dysfunctional Rules Thread V: Dysfunctions All the Way Down
Not sure if this is a dysfunction, but it cause quite an arguement at my last game. Psions have enough PP to cast their highest level spells around 11 times at level 12, almost more than all of a Sorcerer's 4, 5 and 6 spell slots combined.
and over 20 times at level 20, almost more than a sorcerer's 6, 7, 8 and 9th level spell slots combined.
Although he wont be casting anything after that, you can still end encounters with one or maybe two max level manifestations.

Re: Dysfunctional Rules Thread V: Dysfunctions All the Way Down
Not dysfunctional, just a trade off. The Psion doesn't get automatically scaling upgrades to all his weaker powers like a Sorcerer does, whose spells get more powerful and last longer on top of being able to cast them more often. If a Psion doesn't spend those pp upgrading the lower level abilities, they're basically worthless after a while.

Re: Dysfunctional Rules Thread V: Dysfunctions All the Way Down
But the zombie template makes the creature forget all class abilities, including the ones that give them proficiency with improvised weapons. Zombies only have one HD of undead unless they had racial HD before. You don't count anything they picked up from classes because they don't have any class.

Re: Dysfunctional Rules Thread V: Dysfunctions All the Way Down
1) Drunken Master not actually proficient with improvised weapon. But undead proficient with whatever it armed with. And it completely reasonable to assume zombie to be armed with whatever it was armed before it's death.
2) Zombie have at least 2 HD unless it was originally creature with less than 1 HD

Re: Dysfunctional Rules Thread V: Dysfunctions All the Way Down
Defiant (Planar Handbook) Requirements:
Special: Defiants cannot worship any deity or have one as a patron. Any character who has any connection to a god, demigod, or other divine entity must renounce that connection before taking a level in this prestige class.
A paladin or cleric of a specifi c god cannot become a defiant until the character renounces all belief and faith in the deity, becoming an ex-cleric or ex-paladin and losing all spells and class features except for armor and shield proficiencies and proficiency with simple weapons. This restriction does not affect clerics who worship a cause or a nonpersonified source of divine magic.

Re: Dysfunctional Rules Thread V: Dysfunctions All the Way Down
Vampire Monk using her unarmed strikes. Monk's back, baby.
It strikes me as funny that there is a feat that gives another feat. If you spend one to get one, you net none.
I think we may have covered soul shackles recently. I forget how it goes, but I think the target is a living creature because they needed the amulet when they died. This makes the question even more confusing, for when is the spell actually cast?
