Default [large scale mecha DWRP] Super Robot Wars Unification - recruiting!

    Opening narration:

Humanity grew proud. As technological advances progressed, we looked up to the stars. Conquest of space began - we established colonies in space, around Earth, even outposts on the Moon and other planets of the Solar System. Space pods used in construction and maintenance of colonies served as basis for the first humanoid robots.

Then, they came. About twenty years ago, it's hard to judge who was first. Monsters, aliens, strange creatures - each group different, only thing they had seemingly in common was hatred for humanity. We had to defend ourselves. Humanoid robots proved key in fighting off the enemies. At first we struggled, but we got good at it.

We got really good at it.

Because of that, large parts of humanity grew complacent over the years. Considering the extraterrestrial threats "not their problem", they turned corrupt - or even started to wage wars at each other. And in the meantime, the threat only grows stronger in time. Humanity still holds. But for how long, no one can tell.

Not everyone was willing to stand by idly and do nothing. Six months ago, an organisation rose in Earth Sphere - Divine Crusaders, a group that sought to unite nations of Earth against the common foe of alien invaders. Yet even if their goals were noble, their methods were not. They sought to subordinate others by force, and war was inevitable.

After a short but intense period of fighting, Divine Crusaders were defeated. Their leaders, Bian Zoldark on Earth and Maier V. Branstein in space, died in battle. Shu Shirakawa, a brilliant Divine Crusaders scientist who switched sides mid-conflict, betrayed Earth Sphere United Nations in the end and he and his mighty Granzon were likewise destroyed. Yet sacrifices were many - Earth Sphere's military forces were greatly weakened, even less fitting to face off against humanity's many enemies than before.

Yet a ray of light shines during the dark times. During the Divine Crusaders conflict, one squad performed better than all others - the Steel Dragon Battle Group, a small but mobile and highly-skilled force. Enough people in positions of power came to an agreement to create a similar organisation, based on the Steel Dragon Battle Group, and try to replicate its success.

Unity Group has been established. Not a part of any nation's military, it answers to the ESUN directly. Unity Group's goal is simple - gather the strongest, the brightest and the most talented. Together, participate in operations against any force that threatens humanity, be it external, or internal.

All is not lost. Unification begins.

Super Robot Wars Unification is a journal-based, crossover mecha game, ran by me and two other DMs/mods. Players take on the roles of mecha pilots, who join the Unity Group for various reasons and together face off against all kinds of enemies!

The game uses a split journal/real time format. Most of the game happens in a journal form - this is usually used for non-combat character interaction. In addition to that, roughly twice a week we schedule combat missions for which the players can sign up. Those missions are played in real time, on AIM, in a semi-freeform format; they're run by a DM as normal, but we use very few rules, without any stats or dice rolling. Don't let this fool you, though; the action during missions can get very intense!

Since this is a journal-based game, it means there are several differences from a typical PbP one. Most notably:
    1. You are expected to create a Dreamwidth account (it's free and quick) for your character, which you will use to post on the game's community.
    2. The game is very large in scale. We already have over 20 players interested, and we expect many more once the game starts. Furthermore, many of those players will play more than one character each (unlike most PbP games, this is allowed here).
    3. Most characters in the game are not created from scratch, but are already existing characters from mecha shows and games. If you ever wanted to play as your favorite mecha pilot, this is your chance! Of course you can choose to play an original character too.
    4. In a typical Super Robot Wars fashion, the events and battles from the various canons we have in the game are integrated together, to form an ongoing, long-term narrative. This is not one of those crossovers that plinks your character away from their world!

We don't have a specific date for the game start yet, but it will be in the second half of April. When we set a date, you will know at least 2 weeks in advance. The game starts on April 18th! Opening the game doesn't mean the end of recruitment - people are free to join and introduce new canons after the game has already started. We fully expect the game to run for around 3 years, just like SRW UG and UG@ previously.

    Useful links:
SRWU IC Community - currently empty, this is the main community where players will post once the game starts.
SRWU OOC Community - important posts and announcements go here. There's more in-depth information about the game, its rules and mechanics, in the links on the right.
4koma Community - for random banter. There is a planning post where you can see what characters people are planning to app into the game.
Testrun box - here you can voice-test your characters. Other games use it too, but the majority of the posts here are for SRWU (and UG@, see below).
SRW UG@ - the previous game we ran, which is now finished. You can check the IC community to see how journal-based play looks like, and the OOc community has logs from missions.

If you have any questions about this game, feel free to ask!

Just posting here to mention that I played on the previous iteration of this game, and it was a blast. Just an example of what kind of characters can be played in this game, in the previous game, I played as Tron Bonne from Misadventures of Tron Bonne, and Rock Volnutt from Megaman Legends, besides a couple of original characters, and in this iteration I'm intending to play at least another original character, and Hayao Kakizaki from SDF Macross.
You got Magic Mech in My Police Procedural!
