Half-Troll
Does anyone know of a location you can find a good Half-Troll Template or race that gives some good flavor and abilities without bogging it down with a unhealthy LA weight gain?
I know Forgotten Realms has a Half-Troll but that is +4
http://www.realmshelps.net/monsters/...alftroll.shtml
That just seems like it might be to unwieldy to play as +4 LA means never catching up to the party pre-epic

Re: Half-Troll
Let them take the Troll-blooded feat, even if they have to take flaws to make it happen. BOOM, you have troll ancestry, no RHD, no LA. You start with 3 extra HP and regeneration 1 (acid, fire), and are fatigued in sunlight.
Set the base race as Goliath or half giant for a more trollish feel.Last edited by Fouredged Sword; 2014-04-17 at 12:18 PM.

Re: Half-Troll
Half-Giant with the troll blooded feat IMO.
So basically Ditto to what has already been said.Last edited by Yogibear41; 2014-04-17 at 12:47 PM.

Re: Half-Troll
The LA is steep, but I ran a mongrelfolk 1/2 troll that was very fun.
Nothing for Charisma but a really good walking wall to keep everything away from squishy party members, plus ranks in Cooking!!!

Personally, I like a Trollblooded Warforged.

Re: Half-Troll
NOPE! Close though. It is a regional feat, so you have to be from one area if going by RAW, and it requires both first level AND toughness, means that you must be able to have two feats at first level. This can be accomplished through flaws though. I recommend something like pathetic int to reflect your trollish int.

Re: Half-Troll
Exactly!
It should be Frost Barbarians, Ice Barbarians, Pale, or Snow Barbarians.
Let's see:
As of 591 CY, the population of the Frost Barbarians totaled 144,500 persons, almost exclusively humans of Suel stock. There are also a small number of dwarves and halflings, but few other races call this region home.As of 591 CY, the population of Ice Barbarians in the World of Greyhawk campaign setting totaled 158,800 persons, almost exclusively humans of Suel stock. There are also a small number of dwarves (the mountain variety outnumbering the hill variety by about 2-to-1) and halflings (mostly stouts), but few other races call this region home. The Pale boasts a total population of 395,000, 96% of which are human. The others include a very small number of halflings and elves. As of 591 CY, the population of the Snow Barbarians totaled 209,000 persons, the vast majority (almost 80%) being humans of Suel stock. There are a notable number of dwarves (8%) and halflings (6%), while elves, gnomes, half-elves, and half-orcs can be found as well.Last edited by ShurikVch; 2014-04-17 at 01:55 PM.

Re: Half-Troll
But, remember, each PC is a special snowflake. A single X living among them would not have changed those percentages at all.
Where X could = Warforged, Dragonwrought Kobold, orNecropolitanLesser Aasimar...
ETA: And Half-giant, Goliath, or Mongrelfolk would also work, be more thematic to the region, and more thematic to the OPs request.Last edited by dextercorvia; 2014-04-17 at 02:00 PM. Reason: removed Necropolitan

Re: Half-Troll
Firstly, "single X" wouldn't fly: from where he appeared there - from thin air? He must have parents. And parents too not appeared from thin air, so we speaking about the whole tribe. And tribe must be noticed in population chart
Secondly, much of those creatures just not from this world:
Half-giant? Dark Sun!
Warforged? Eberron!
Aasimar? Faerūn!
Goliath? I'm not sure...
Mongrelfolk is the only strait OK, because of G'ragh
So, unless you OK with cross-setting teleportation, you need to explain how this creature appeared there... Oh, wait!.. Troll Blooded is "ancestral" feat. So our supposed travelers must not just teleport into Oerth, but lived there at least a few generations. Also, by the same reason warforged a out - they are not reproduce sexually, so have no way to get troll's ancestry

Re: Half-Troll
Half-Giant: any setting with giants would make sense for half-giants to exist, not just Dark Sun
Warforged: They are golems, any setting with magically infused constructs could potentially have Warforged
Aasimar: They are Celestial Blooded, and DEFINITELY aren't tied to just Faerun. They are in Monster Manual 1, for pete's sake.
Also nothing says a character couldn't have been in the region but not tied to the immediate barbarian clans. Reading regional feats verbatim tends to cause people to ignore the fluff entirely, which isn't always fun.Avatar made by Akrim.Elf

Re: Half-Troll
And yet Dark Sun and Dragonlance are the only settings which have them
They are far from ordinary golems. Secret of their creation is very ancient, and was found in Xen'drik. First warforged were created as host bodies for Quori. No Quori - no warforged. Also, it's a moot point, because Troll Blooded not applicable to warforged by fluff reasons
So, in which part of Oeth reside at least one Aasimar? They can be Core, but still not exist outside of Forgotten Realms, Oriental Adventures, Planescape, and Urban Arcana
But player must have one damn good explanation why his/her PC is of race which nobody in the whole setting seen before (at least, outside of planar travels and/or divinations)

The OP asked a "How can I do this thing, X, and stay as close to balanced and within the rules as possible?" We gave our answer, explaining the closest set of rules to giver the OP what they want.

Re: Half-Troll
Actually Eberron reflavored them and adapted them into Eneko(if I recollect the spelling correctly) in Secrets of Sarlona, Forgotten Realms is a kitchen sink and they've had numerous articles about how you can fit in new races into that setting, and you're being strangely myopic for no real benefit by making this series of claims.
You might as well be claiming that no one can ever play in their own setting, or that a general feat can't be used outside of Eberron because it was published in an Eberron book.
