Video Game protagonists as D&D characters
I created a thread which can be found here, but for those that don't want to click it's Video Game bosses as D&D characters. Following along that path I realised I'd be as well making one for Video Game protagonists as well. Here are a couple that have been contributed and that I've thought of myself.
Red = Complete and can find the post by clicking the listed user's name.
Gold = In progress.
Blue = I haven't started it.

If anybody would like to contribute protagonists I'll add your contributions to the list and either work on it myself at some point or allow somebody else to take it on.
If there's a recurring protagonist in a game series (i.e. Mario), please specify which game in the series.
If there is more than one protagonist, please list the protagonists in the format:
- [Protagonist name] ([Game])
Taking a new line for each protagonist.
If you complete a protagonist as a character, please post its full character sheet. Assume you have exactly as much money as you need for the purpose of acquiring the items.Last edited by Xaroth; 2014-06-17 at 09:51 PM.

EDIT: I didn't read the above, apparently.
Mewtwo! (Pokemon)
I guess a mid-level psion would be able to replicate most of his stuff, thinking about it.
But I don't have time to make a whole thing.

Re: Video Game protagonists as D&D characters
You could do the other forms of Lightning.
13-2 Lightning obviously has divine ranks.
13-LR Lightning has even more divine ranks.
But if you want to avoid that...eh.

Re: Video Game protagonists as D&D characters
If it comes to MVC, I'd like to see
- Shuma Gorath (MVC3)
just because he's such an oddball character
How to stat Super Mario... well, he's human, he regularly uses potions (well, toadstools) of Enlarge Person, and he's got a ridiculous jump check, and only one hit point.
So I'm thinking, low level Warlock with the Leaps and Bounds invocation, using Eldritch Blast for the firebolts, and probably a Ring of Improved Jumping, and a constitution of 3.
This needs some more brainstorming though; does D&D even have rules to harm enemies by jumping on top of them? Perhaps via Dungeon Crasher?Guide to the Magus, the Pathfinder Gish class.

Battlejump is what you're looking for. Technically it would be double damage from an unarmed strike, but whatever.

Re: Video Game protagonists as D&D characters
Heh, I was doing a thought experiment along these lines with the cast of Chrono Trigger and the Pathfinder rules. The broad strokes should still work.
First, Crono, Lucca, and Frog's magical abilities are probably best handled as spell-like abilities they just get on top of their regular class features. (Trying to gish Crono to the point where he can learn something equivalent to Luminaire sounds... daunting.)
Crono - finesse Fighter
Lucca - Artificer (in PF she'd be a Gunslinger with the 3rd Party Mechanist Archetype, but failing that an Artificer with a gun works)
Marle - Favored Soul? I'm loath to give her full casting, since I don't want her to eclipse Magus in sheer power, but even her "non-magical" techs are magical.
Frog - Two-Handed Weapon Fighter or Paladin (if you want his magic attached to his class). Lotsa ranks in Jump
Robo - Probably a Fighter with Improved Unarmed Strike? Monk might work, but leans a little too mystical.
Ayla - Barbarian with Improved Unarmed Strike. (Again, Monk might work, but seems even less appropriate for her than it does for Robo. There's a third party PF class called Pugilist that, with some fixes, would be ideal for her.)
Magus - Sorcerer or Wizard with a Fighter dip and a gish PrC (again, this has the problem of putting him behind Marle in terms of magical prowess, which seems wrong.

It wasn't Sold Snake in MGS3. It was Naked Snake (Big Boss), who Solid was cloned from.

Re: Video Game protagonists as D&D characters
I can probably do Zidane (FF9). Some criteria:
- TWF with knives and two-bladed swords. ()
- Ability to steal in combat.
- Debuffs mostly based on his weapon.
- Protect girls.
- Impressive magical nova damage.
So I'm thinking Psychic Rogue/Revenant Blade with ambush feats, Sleight of Hand optimization, Expanded Knowledge for a couple blast powers, and wands of shield other. I'll work up a full build soon.Author of The Auspician's Handbook and The Tempestarian's Handbook for Spheres of Power.Greenman by Bradakhan/Spring Greenman by Comissar/Autumn Greenman by Sgt. Re: Video Game protagonists as D&D characters
Now, granted, it's not strict RAW-compliant to do it that way, but I'm at a loss for how to give him the appropriate magical powers (Lightning Bolt, Chaining Lighting (?), Raise Dead, and Sunburst (?)) without basically turning him into a caster. Still, I suppose a gish build that's more even than Magus's (which would be caster-heavy).
Robo I really have no clue what to do with. Are there Warforged feats or PrCs that allow one to generate lasers, explosions, electrical charges, and healing?
Ayla's Kiss and Charm techs, I dunno. The former might be best handled by pumping up her Heal check as much as possible. (Loses the "kiss it and make it better" flavor, and becomes an out of combat thing, but keeps it non-magical.) Charm, I dunno. Are there 3.5 rules that are equivalent to PF's Steal Combat Maneuver?
Maybe to keep Marle's casting better than Crono's but worse than Magus's, she could be a healing-focused Bard? Granted, she never demonstrates any musical talents in-game, but she is the one who does the most prodding along of the plot, and she is a support caster.

Re: Video Game protagonists as D&D characters
I would be requesting Ness from Earthbound, but a somewhat optimized PsyWar would actually fix that problem entirely, since it's made obvious that Ness's abilities aren't because of magic, but psionics.
Amaterasu from Okami would be pretty difficult though having to factor in Divine Ranks (She IS a deity after all), and the version from one of the splatbooks just wouldn't cover it. (I think she was covered in a splatbook at some point, anyway).

Re: Video Game protagonists as D&D characters
But Crono is a caster; it's a plot point in Chrono Trigger (as is the fact that Ayla is explicitly not a caster).
Robo I really have no clue what to do with. Are there Warforged feats or PrCs that allow one to generate lasers, explosions, electrical charges, and healing?
Ayla's Kiss and Charm techs, I dunno. The former might be best handled by pumping up her Heal check as much as possible. So basically,
- Crono - battle-focused Cleric (he can use raise dead, for crying out loud) with Whirlwind Attack
- Lucca - Alchemist with a dip in Gunslinger
- Marle - Bard works, and she has the provoke mechanic, I think there was a feat for that? Haste spell, too.
- Frog - Paladin with lots of jump ranks and a racial bonus to that, but he needs some way to use water magic.
- Robo - Fighter with lots of ranks in UMD (grab a feat to make it a class skill) and wands of healing, lightning bolt, and shocking grasp
- Ayla - Barbarian with Improved/Greater Steal, with, well there has to be a non-magical way of healing somewhere in PF/3.5, right?
- Magus - Evocation Wizard / Eldritch Knight; he's an exotic race that gets proficiency with all martial weapons

Re: Video Game protagonists as D&D characters
I would suggest rings of friend shield rather than wands, and limited-use abilites. The only techniques he has are regular techniques and rogue abilities unless he is in Trance. Things such as Combat Expertise/Improved Feint to represent the 'What's That!?' ability, for example.
He deals a great deal of damage, but only to single targets (unless in trance) so TWF combined with something to trigger SA (such as blurring, etc.) sounds about right.Last edited by illyahr; 2014-05-13 at 02:01 PM.

The marked ninja (mark of the ninja)
Pretty boring compared to Bayonetta, but still
I wonder if each of his suits would be different builds, magic items, or just stuff he can do in general.I'M NOT CRAZY!!
I just find sanity a rather dull affair
