[Spell] Their blood is on your hands...
Stain of Guilt
Necromancy [Good]
Level: Sanctified 1
Components: S, V, Peace
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: See text
Target: One creature
Duration: Permanent
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
You allow the guilt of a murderer to show itself for all to see. A part of their body is permanently stained with the blood of their victim, normally their hand, which drips slowly but consistently.
This person need not have physically done the deed, but must have been the cause of a sentient creature's death. Those that killed only through self defense, accident or similar conditions are not affected.
This blood may only be washed off with fresh, flowing water or holy water. Even so, the blood returns within an hour of the washing. The stain may only permanently be removed by the victim making amends for their deeds, or an Atonement, Wish, or Miracle spell. Those of the higher planes judge when this has been accomplished, not the caster.
Those that see the blood and were negatively affected by the death dealt by the target of this spell instantly know the being as the cause of the deed. He takes a -10 penalty to all Charisma-based skill checks when using them against these people.
There is no maximum distance to this spell, nor must the target be known, though it cannot cross planar boundaries.
Peace: The caster must refrain from purposely killing any creature for 24 hours prior to casting this spell.Last edited by The Vorpal Tribble; 2010-03-15 at 10:45 AM.

More lawful then good, I think. The war hero’s of our time would qualify for this. Now, would making their hands drip with blood be good?

Re: [Spell] Their blood is on your hands...
I dunno...possibly. Having never killed someone, I don't know what it'd be like, but I imagine that it'd weigh heavily on you, especially if you were a war-hero. Having that reminder would be a burden.

Well, I'd say that the militia man forced into service would be exempt but the greedy king who forced him to kill wouldn't.

If this spell had the [Evil] descriptor, it would have to be named Free Blood.

Re: [Spell] Their blood is on your hands...
The war heros of our time are murdering innocents? Thats news to me.
This is not in any way lawful. You could be chaotic and still want a killer to be marked for what he's done, if nothing else so he can be found.
Btw, here is what I'm being told over on Wizards...
"Change the range to close, the atonement to the caster's decision (with the obvious 'atonement cannot lead to his own destruction' thing), make the holy water washing a permanent cure, give it a save, have only HIM see the blood... and they would consider this a decent second level spell."
Now, at this point, can you tell me what the purpose to this spell would be?

Re: [Spell] Their blood is on your hands...
The spell doesn't actually specify that the victim has to be innocent.
As it is, the spell seems fine as an orison, provided there is at leas some form of limitation, such as that the murder be recent and there is a material component.
Instead of the caster or some higher entity determining the when the guilt is released, it should be released when "those that see the blood and were negatively affected by the death dealt by the target of this spell" forgive the target.Belkar's Bad to the Bone.

Re: [Spell] Their blood is on your hands...
I think the spell is too harsh and too vague at the same time.
First, the target's hands drip blood, making normal contact with people rather difficult. (And handling items, yuk.) This is permanent, the target could be anyone, anywhere, and he might not even know why his hands are suddenly bloody, ergo a Spellcraft check (DC 21) is needed to even know where to begin to get rid of the spell. (And what if the target is, for example, an adventurer or a soldier?) There is no saving throw, no spell resistance, not even a Wish or a Miracle will remove it, and all the caster has to do is spend a day not killing anything.
Second, anything in or from the higher planes qualifies for the ending of the spell. Even the target, if he happens to be on one. I think this needs a bit work.
