It's probably about due to come back into favor now - according to the baby name site I checked the more usual variant Gerard last peaked in 1955. But it's in the top 300 male names for all the US censuses in the first half of the 20th century.

Not only boys' names, in general "trends" tend to skip a generation (or something like that, fascinating stuff anyway)

Yeah, they turn green every time she uses their magic after that. Its hard to notice (for me at least) because of how light both colors are and how small her feet are in most scenes.

Miron casts Dispel Magic at his mount, to un-hold her/him. The Boots of Speed flash green (and then back to the dyed color) because Haley activates them.

They're turning green because she's using them. Miron's dispel doesn't come anywhere near Haley (it's targeted at their dinosaur, not at her).

I just realized the Psionic Goblin, along with being a decent one-off joke, introduced the fact that psioncis did exist in the OotS-world and opened the door for Laurin to come in with no "bytheway there are totally psionics in this world" to-do to disrupt the pacing. Or I'm just reading way too much into it.

In addition to allenw's excellent rebuttal, V also used several spells back in those early strips that I safely assume he does not have currently; even if it was a specifically psionic creature, it would be soft evidence at best in my mind.

Children's books often have fictional elements. No guarantee that the Little Psion that Could wasn't as mythical as a moon-jumping cow.

Even if it was fictional, it still allows for real elements to exist easily, so Laurin would feel natural. The Goblin Psion helps a lot in cementing that, of course.

I also think that the Little Psion That Could helped raise the issue beforehand, with an option on the squid-thingy for those audience members who knew the squid-thingy's secret identity.

But what I didn't realize until after your post is that the scene you marked has another potential meaning: Redcloak had to do some heavy research to learn that goblins are using psionics. This increases the onscreen goblin class list to: miscellaneous horde warrior, ninja, cleric, browncloak arcane caster, rogue (see Start of Darkness), and psion, if not others as well. That's gotta have some potential for future expansion.

Indeed it is. Im colorblind in the same way Hinjo is, so until it explained how severe it is, ill assume we see the same things.
