Re: El Goonish Shive II - I stand by my ridiculous comic
No, he goes from parroting Richard's beliefs ("we have read the same walkthroughs") to starting to think by himself. That takes about a minute. However, you are also conflating two separate lines of thought, as if they were one and the same. He, unlike Rich, never did have a problem with gay people (notice the surprise - Larry did not expect Rich to react as he did). They did share the misogynistic belief that women that are not interested in men are all lesbians, rather than a possible failing on the individual man approaching them. These are two separate moral failings, so you assertion that he goes from one to the other in four hours doesn't make sense. Someone can be a gay-friendly misogynist ("gay weddings? They're great! But only men can be CEOs - woman are too soft-hearted"), and you can be a gay-hating feminist (which was the norm until the 80s). Larry just to happens to be close to the first, while Rich is a gay-unfriendly ("stay in the closet and I'm fine with you") misogynist.
Larry's character development is closer to standing up to Rich than he is to changing his actual stances, although by doing the first, he probably will eventually do both.

Re: El Goonish Shive II - I stand by my ridiculous comic
I think you are right, but I still feel the whole thing is a bit too forced, and a bit too preachy. It could have been shown as a few background strips in, like, four different storylines over time, and I'd be fine with it. Probably not fine with Larry still, because even if I buy into the whole redemption arc, he's still a character I don't like, and can't properly hate.

Re: El Goonish Shive II - I stand by my ridiculous comic
One thing I've noticed is good at getting people to change their position? Realizing the stances of their allies in their cause. Honestly, Rich (Who I resent because he kinda looks like me, has a similar name, and embodies everything I hate about the geek culture I love) smashing against Larry vis a vis gayness and also simultaneously showing the entitlement and just plain creepiness of assuming people want you want you? That's as good a reason as any for Larry to start contemplating Sarah's words in more depth. Especially with good guys like Tensaided, guys he presumably respects (given his response to some of Tensaided's earlier comments), piling on the message.

After reading the latest NP, I think I'd love a whole series of characters writing to Susan about all manner of topics and all manner of personal levels of indignation, never changing the final panel. I think it could make for a hilarious running joke.

I know it's silly, but I can't shake the thought that this storyline will end with "Suddenly, GOO attack!"

Don't worry, Lizard, I totally got that you meant it as a good thing :) (I was confused by Silva's response to your comment at first).

Re: El Goonish Shive II - I stand by my ridiculous comic
Why would Sarah and Sam (is there a ship name for that?) and Tedrahce be mutually exclusive? We have no indication that Sarah couldn't have both relationships going, other than that the one relationship we have seen her in was apparently monogamous.
Also, there is also Cecil, who was also crushing on Sarah. Kind of want to see what happens between them, even if it just ends up platonic.Treasured Quotes

Re: El Goonish Shive II - I stand by my ridiculous comic
Samrah. Samrah is my name for them.
I'm hoping that Sam becomes a recurring character even if he doesn't join the main cast. And I've seen Tedrahce advocates referring to it as a one true threesome, which seems like the language of a closed poly relationship/a unicorn (though obviously Dan can write whatever he wants and ignore the fandom).
If Sam and Sarah are both poly, that's a different thing, but the chances of that are low in my experience, if that makes sense, and if tedrahce are actually together and Sam finds out and reacts badly, what then? How will he hang out with the others?! We just got trans inclusiveness, don't take my Sam away from me!

Re: El Goonish Shive II - I stand by my ridiculous comic
I think tedrahce is the first time I heard three names combined into one ship. Anyway so shipping this three together is a thing? Did it start with the information that their transformation experiments sometimes lead to nakedness? Or is it older? (Anyway as of yet I have no reason to believe they aren't platonic friends. Otherwise the thing with Sam becomes much more complicated.)
(On the note of poly I can't remember If I have ever read a story where one of the main characters was explicitly poly and in a relationship with several other relevant characters. Well I have read stories where a man ended up with several woman, like wheel of time. But in that case it usually just kinda happens. I mean where characters actually talk about the option to not be monogamous. Or where anyone actually knows the word poly. Well actually explicitly talking about relationships is rare anyway.)

Re: El Goonish Shive II - I stand by my ridiculous comic
I don't remember which happened first, but it either started with Tedd and Sarah talking about shipping, or with Grace clinging to both Tedd and Sarah when Sarah and Elliot broke up and Grace got clingy for security reasons after realizing that break ups were a thing that happen.

There is a lot of other stuff going on in there, but that bit is relevant. I don't remember reading it from the beginning myself, maybe I haven't yet.The end of what Son? The story? There is no end. There's just the point where the storytellers stop talking.

Re: El Goonish Shive II - I stand by my ridiculous comic
The OTT between Sarah, Tedd and Grace started LONG before the thing about them being naked in front of each other. Actually, Dan has commented that he likes teasing about that particular triad because there are so many fans who ship it. It's been a thing for years as far as I know. And I would say this is further teasing.
I get a little bit annoyed when people refer to being in a triad as a single relationship, and I'm a bit curious why being with both Grace and Tedd would make it impossible for Sarah to be in another relationship, as that would quite obviously make her poly. So yes, Sarah could definitely be in all three relationships, although starting them all at once sounds like it would have a low rate of success.
And Sam would certainly not be required to be poly, provided he's poly-friendly. Which of course we cannot know, but I can tell you from experience that there are monoamorous people who are poly-friendly and even some who prefer relationships with polyamorous people (even though they personally only want one partner at a time) so it would still be absolutely possible.
My personal opinion is still that Dan is being a tease, but hey, you never know I guess.

The Honor Harrington series has
Spoilera married man and single woman who fall in love, and both of them feel incredibly guilty and conflicted about it until the man's wife (who has become a good friend of the single woman as well) steps in and bluntly tells them they're being silly and they should modify the marriage vows to include all three of them.Like 4X (aka Civilization-like) gaming? Re: El Goonish Shive II - I stand by my ridiculous comic
Sarah and Tedd: Honestly, my feelings about it is that Tedd is for Sarah a good friend who's very non-threatening both consciously and subconsciously, to the point where she's comfortable with being very physical with him (or her, at times ) with no issue of misunderstanding. Sure, she realizes he finds her attractive, but not only Tedd finds nearly all girls attractive (The ones he didn't: Nanase, who's family, and maybe Catalina, although that was probably just that she was rather too annoying instead of not attractive ), but, more importantly, that Tedd is both able to separate "I find this person attractive" and "I have a crush in this person", and is very careful of boundaries of romantic consent.
It doesn't harm it either that his girly appearance probably makes it easier on her subconcious, and that his girlfriend being incredibly "touchy-feely" and non jealous.
