"It's a kind of magic," Needs tries to explain, quoting Queen (or maybe Highlander) this time around. For once, his quote seems to fit the situation perfectly, even if it's not a very detailed explanation. Yin and Yang, black and white, life and death, it's all very simple. If Fire has to be dealt with by someone, they'll do it some other time, when there isn't a child to save.

"I see." Says Kr simply, waving a hand, which causes the floating book to snap shut. It looks to be a rather typically generic tome of power, bound in animal hide or something similarly crude, encrusted with gemstones, and covered in unholy runes of some forgotten language. Kr's really been wanting to get the entire library rebound with regular cardboard covers with standardized lettered covers and numbered indexing, but there's always some other more important thing to do. Especially the tomes on necromancy, summoning and demonology. Some of those were frankly unhygienic to keep around.
"Anything you need me for, then?"

"You can help escort your new friend back to your base." Dena suggests. "Since otherwise it looks like we're done here." Getting a lich as a servant must count as 50 % of the loot right? He was probably even more valuable than whatever scrap Dena could find remaining in the tomb.

"It is simply his nature, as much as he doesn't wish to do it. It is simply his Fate, as well as mine to be killed by his hand." Vigil says as a heavy presence begins making it's way in the house towards the kitchen. The air feels weighty and there's a slight metallic taste to it, as if someone were welding in the area. Vigil stands and heads to the doorway just in time to meet a large shaggy figure. It's hard to look directly at the figure as it's form is hazy and gives a slight headache. At least until Vigil sets his hand on the massive paw that grips the doorframe, making it creak as the claws dig in.

The moment Vigil's hand touches the paw, Fire's image sharpens and the presence fades, revealing an 8ft tall, 5ft wide(At the shoulders) bestial man covered with thick black fur. He's stark naked except for the fur and his features are a mixture of wolf and bear. A deep rumbling growl comes from the being, but Vigil frowns and pokes it's chest. "They're guests and I prepared them extra. They're here to help, not to take the house, so stop grumbling." He says, gesturing towards all the food left on the counter. "See? Plenty." He says, allowing Fire to go eat in his surprisingly clean way. Even though Fire has apparently been reassured, he keeps a wary eye on the guests.

Wes is pulled down by the Mother, and as much as he might want to shrug her off, he's still young enough to be particularly susceptible to being mothered.

"The future is not fixed. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves." Wes retorts. But then when Fire comes into view, he catches himself staring again. Being in the same room with two male lovers is a fascinating experience for Wes: terrifying and thrilling. As a closeted 16 year old in a world where male homosexuality is so rare, he often feels that particular flavour of deep despair that is peculiar to adolescence. That deep desire to be loved and wanted and the overwhelming terror that it will never happen. Simply to see a male couple is wonderful and validating. But in this case, one of them is naked, the other topless, and both so masculine and virile. It doesn't even matter to him anymore that Vigil has just been casually talking about the destruction of the world. His attention has been utterly diverted from that topic.

The lich looks around curiously at the world, observing everything he'd been unable to see for the last thousand years he's spent trapped in a stone sarcophagus in a vast pyramid designed specifically to stop him from getting out.

    [Mirror, Mirror]
    Darsy

There are, in fact, at least two pairs of footsteps. Thanks to the nature of this area's echo, it's hard to exactly know for sure exactly where they are, but they're in that direction. Over time, the footstep sounds get a little louder or more frequent, which could mean any number of things.

The mirror's image is frozen of Darsy standing back a bit. I imagine that's pretty strange. After tapping on it, Darsy will definitely be able to notice something else odd about it. Even though the image of her is frozen, there's still some movement in the background of the reflection. Little shadows cast differently, or the reflection in the water changing, or a little animal running across the way.

    Card

Upon exiting this servant's-only room, Card will find himself in a hallway of a similar style, which was obviously used by the servants to enter and exit whichever room on the ground floor or the other floors they want. There's hallways, trapdoors, staircases, narrow ways to come in and out of rooms and behind bookcases, false doorways, and so on.

The largest and most obvious other passageway that he might find will lead to the library. The second largest will lead to the kitchen. The fifth most obvious leads to the dungeon, which is roughly where Darsy is right now. If he needs a reason to go there instead of the other places, it's possible he'll be able to hear the footsteps if he goes close enough to the dungeon area.

Or, in other words, you get to choose out of these three rooms where he goes now.

    Mirror, mirror - Card

Well, given his sense of direction, its a good thing that Card can hear something down the route to the dungeon. Therefore, he tries to make his way to the dungeons, as best as he can.

The louder footsteps draw some concern from Darsy. Odds were good that the owners were getting closer. However, the mirror is still capturing her interest.

She notices the background movements, and glances behind her. If she doesn't see anything, she'll look back to the mirror again.

"In a young girl's heart." The Mother mumbles in reply to Needs, completely missing what he was quoting as she averts her eyes from Fire to stare at Wes intently.

"Fate is just history backwards. Much harder to learn from when it hasn't happened yet, much easier to be doomed to repeat itself in reverse without the lesson it hasn't yet taught. I think your mother should be very proud of you. Wes eats about as much as a typical growing teenage boy, and when he's done, he takes out the copy of the ad, turns it over, and writes something on it. His mom's name (Wilhelmina Warwick) and phone number.

"If I don't come back, please tell my mom what happened." Wes says. And having taken care of that obligation, he'll take up a pack and prepare to go.

I will take all the other packs before I become more unhinged, we will get your baby back for you." The pack that the other four are tied to groans slightly from the weight, but her frail form does not even stagger beneath it.

Vigil nods when everyone's ready to go and opens the back door, revealing a dark world beyond. It appears to open into a great dusty darkgrey-blue plane with tall black rock spires in the distance, several miles away. There's neither sun nor moon nor stars in the sky, just an endless expanse of grey-blue clouds that slowly spiral around. The air that comes through is cool, almost chilly, but bearable for a while at least. Right outside the door is the small moist lump of Needs' hairball.

"This is the world that his grief made." Vigil says with a frown before nodding towards small footsteps embedded in the dusty ground. "We haven't stepped out, so there are only his tracks as far as we can tell. We don't know if anything else inhabits it, so please, be careful."

    [Mirror, Mirror]

And so, Card finds himself into the damp stony dungeon - incidentally, in the same hallway as Darsy with those strange mirrors on the wall. Funny how things work out like that, how they ended up in the exact same hallway.

    ...Well, sort-of.

The footsteps can be heard by both, still. Getting louder. Seems they're running, actually, and drawing nearer every second. Judging by how sound propagates and echoes throughout the hallway and how hard it is to tell how far they are because of all the turns and stuff and their average legspan and such, I give the footsteps anywhere from 10 to 45 seconds to arrive in the hallway.

As it turns out, Darsy will not be able to see Card in this hallway. Likewise, the reverse is also true: Card won't be able to see Darsy in the hallway. However!:

    Darsy

Behind her is nothing unusual. Stone walls. Darkness. Shadows. Other such stuff. Sometimes a rat. Sometimes not.

Looking back at the mirrors, though: somewhere in the mirror's version of the hallway, she'll be able to see Card, walking around. Not frozen, like her own reflections in those mirrors. I wonder if he can see her?

The mirrors on the walls. They reflect him normally, absolutely. However, every single one of them, up to a certain point in the hallway, has an image of Darsy somewhere in the reflection, with her hands glowing. Actually, that glowing ability helps light up the hallway so it's relatively easy to see. In every frozen image of Darsy, her eyes are plainly visible. In fact, every frozen image is looking directly out, as if she were trapped in each mirror, frozen there.

Also, voices. He can hear them, in the same direction as the footsteps, almost as if the footsteps belonged to the voices. There's two distinct voices, both male, obviously slightly frightened and very confused.

    Mirror, mirror -Card

Now, this is interesting. Seems like Darsy wasn't as careful about the mirrors as Card was. But, it seems like she's alive, so that's a plus. Not sure on how to get her out of there, but that might be able to wait for a bit.

Card turns his attention to the footprints and voices, and therefore moves towards them, going much more quietly than he was before. There wasn't three males in the group he came here with, so at least one of the voices must belong to someone else.

    Mirror, Mirror

Hm. The footsteps are still coming. Not really anywhere to hide around here, though.

So, for the brief time she has until the mysterious people arrive, Darsy will keep her attention on the mirror. She tries knocking on it again, a bit harder this time. Maybe he can hear her.

    Darsy

For the few precious moments before they arrive, Darsy can knock on that mirror on the right. Since she can see Card's reactions in the mirrors, she'll be able to tell if it worked or not based on his reactions.

Then, they arrive. Two men come running around the corner of the hall. Surprisingly, it's Card and Xanthos. They're pointing and their mouths are moving...but no sound comes out from their voices. Their expressions look surprised, though.

They keep on running: the Card running down the hallway towards where she is, and the Xanthos stopping after a short while. He (the Xanthos one) begins making some strange magic gestures.

Interesting thing to note, as they approach: they both have silvery eyes, just like the decapitated head Darsy found earlier.

    Card

Well, they don't arrive just quite yet.

It might not be heard over the sound of the footsteps and murmurings, but one of the mirrors with Darsy's frozen images has a knocking sound come from it, as if someone's knocking on a glass door. It's on the left.

Then, the figures come rounding the corner. They're both strange shadowy men with no definite figure. No face, either. Just shadowy forms. Their voices sound surprised, as if they weren't expecting to see Card in this hallway.

One stops a distance away, and darkness begins gathering around it. Strange indecipherable words are chanted as the darkness gathers.

The second continues running through the hallway in the direction of Card.

"Alright, let's go." First hydras, then a lich. Kr has no idea what Wenomir's going to adopt next, but she's already afraid.

    Wenomir gotta catch em' all!
"Good luck. Don't hesitate to call again if you need something else." Dena tells Wenomir before her hologram disappears and Violet flies back to the drow. Once the others are gone it was time for the fun part, looting. Not sure if this can be handwaved or not but Dena is planning to go through the entire dungeon and find anything valuable within it.

That's hardly fair. Wenomir's hydra eggs haven't hatched yet. At any rate, with nothing left to do there, Wenomir will leave with Kr and the lich to VIGIL.

And so off the lich goes, to join the forces of VIGIL in protecting the Nexus.

Meanwhile, Dena loots the pyramids! She'll find the three piles of dust that were child-headed ogre-creatures have a large, leather apron each enchanted to be nearly impregnable, though they don't cover everywhere- just the front of the torso, with a belt around the middle and a neck strap, leaving the wearer vulnerable in the lower legs, arms, head, back and parts of the chest. One also has an eternally-hot branding iron, and a whip that oozes a potent nerve irritant and stimulant, so it hurts more but also keeps whomever it strikes awake. The dead prisoners are naked, and didn't own anything to begin with. The enchanted torture table might also be worth something, if Dena can move it; it's not built in, but is very large and heavy.

Inside the chest in the sarcophagus chamber is a half-metre cube of stone; when it's wet, it expands into a mountain, and rubbing a handful of salt into it shrinks it back. The ivory-white, finely-boned skull of an angel, delicately etched with spiralling patterns, protects the holder from draining magic, and the ebony-black, equally-delicate skull of a succubus with matching patterns gilded onto its surface protects the holder's mind from magical tampering. A pair of soft, purple satin slippers stop the wearer's feet from making any noise and leaving foot prints. A dagger with a blade of dragon bone slices through most magical protections, though it can't cut through any substance a normal dagger can't slice through. There's also a red velvet bag of green stones; a third of the stones smell of peppermint and explode (when thrown) in a small burst of negative energy, a third smell of ginger and paralyse living creatures they hit after being thrown, and the rest smell of coffee and can be eaten to prevent the need for sleep or supernatural sleep substitutes like elvish trancing or vampiric torpor. The bag generates a new one of that type whenever one is used, but there's fifteen stones inside. There's also a bag of mithril coins depicting an elvish monarch on one side and a sword on the other.

[Inside==> A planet known as HELL]

As Certain is pushed off the plane known as nexus she experiences the sensation of falling but also paralyzation. Even her demonic senses are shut down causing her to simply fall blindly through the dimensional rift opened by Trick. It's not until a few minutes she finally "lands" and a severe pain spreads across her aching body. But with the pain the paralyzation slowly releases its grip around her and she finally starts to experience the world around her.

Perhaps the first thing she'll notice as she opens her mouth, trying to take in the air, is that there is none. Her human lungs instinctively attempts to breath and the sensation of them finding nothing isn't exactly pleasant either. For a few moments it's like she's choking to death until the body finally realizes that it doesn't need air anymore.

So as the choking sensation passes she have the chance to focus on the rest of the world, the ground underneath her feels stony and rough and her senses confirms that picture. It's a desolated rather flat wasteland with tiny crates everywhere. The skies above her are at first glance pitch black but then as her senses slowly adjust she can feel that there are faintly glowing stars shimmering above her.

Now she should have regained enough of her senses to actually get up she will find it remarkably easy as the gravity in this wasteland seem much lower than it is in the nexus. She can easily jump without very much of an effort at all.
But while moving she might have gained some unwanted attention, around her small shades are moving closer. Certain somehow knows that these are demons however

They are not a comfort, merely unfortunate facts." What would Dad do? Try to harness this place as a power source while laughing maniacally. No help there.

    What would Mom do?
Feed me a good breakfast and make sure I had a jacket. He takes the pack off long enough to untie the jacket from around his waist and put it on properly, then reseat the pack.

What would Willow do? Who knows. Probably something involving makeup and shoes. His older sister is a complete mystery to him.

    What would Wendy do?

That answer is easy. Wendy, his younger sister, would fearlessly step across the threshhold.

    So he does.

    A Little Boy's Grief

Wesley will find his skin on fire the moment he steps into the new plane. The others will see it turn grey and crack before slowly being peeled away in agony as he screams...

    Okay, not really.

In fact, nothing happens to him. He doesn't even change with the lighting. Despite the darkness and gloom, he still appears as colorful as when he was in the sunlight or kitchen. The grief of the plane doesn't seem to be able to touch him in the least and the same go for the others as they step through. If they turn around, they'll see an endless plane behind them with a door shaped hole in reality, Virgil standing just on the other side looking slightly worried. "Good luck, and please...take care." He pleads.
